  1. I feel your pain . I too was banded on 11/27 and due to the swelling really wasn't hungry until saturday and then it was overwhelming! I got really cranky with my hubby for making his dinner and making me smell it, I made him eat it upstairs-LOL. This forum is so helpful because it sounds like everyone is hungry during this phase and we just have to bite the bullet. We WILL get thru this and be better for it. I can't wait until mushies phase this weekend tho!! FIll is suppose to be 6 weeks from surgery date. Best of luck to you and everyone getting through this starvation phase.

    Drinking Alcohol

I was never a big drinker. I tried my first drink at 3 months post op. I picked one of those pouch pre made pina colada drinks you can get at Walmart that you freeze. I drank almost all of it and then I had to throw it up. Too much sugar I assume. If you're going to try something, I recommend checking the sugar content!

    Extreme fullness

I couldn't drink much Clear Liquids first week either. I stayed hydrated on sugar free popsickles and crushed ice with some sugar free kool aid poured over it. I calculated each sugar free pop-sickle is the equivalent to 3 ounces of Water, and for some reason, the semi-frozen ice liquid was very soothing to my stomach, way less difficult than sipping water. I would have gotten dehydrated without the sugar pop sickles.

    Lord Give Me Patience

Having patience doesnt end when you have surgery either guys.... the stalls with the losses will have you pulling your hair out if it isnt falling out already... Use the time to get physically and mentally ready for the changes coming your way. We can all empathize because we have all been in your shoes...It is rare for anyone to not wait 3 to 6 months. I can hardly wait for each of you to be approved.. It is an exciting time. Good luck to each of you!!!

    Stomach Growling

Oh yes, my used to talk every meal for at least 8+ weeks. Now it's only occasionally, not sure what has changed but kinda miss the conversation

    Stomach Growling

I'm 3 weeks out. Mine growls too. Hope it eventually subsides. Not cute on a date! Lol
  7. Hi Guys, Three weeks post op and I am doing better than I expected. I have noticed that every time I eat my meals I can hear my Tummy Growling. Anyone else have this issue In the early stage? Thanks I would love your advice.

    Worried

I'm a week out from sleeve. It sounds a lot like my first few days. One thing I found was that warm liquids seemed to help because they did not stop in my chest. I still have some of the pain when I eat (drink) too fast but nothing like the first 3 days when my chest really hurt from the gas.
  9. I also was required to attend a seminar. Actually I have attended 3. I was interested in the doctors that did the surgery and all 3 gave seminars that they spoke at. It gave me a idea of what the doctors were like. All the seminars were free and there some good questuins asked and answere.
  10. This for me didn't even come up until the surgeon questioned me on acid reflux, etc. I do get heartburn once or twice a week which just started a couple of years ago. I was describing to him that I lost weight while pregnant and always had a "full feeling" or indigestion. I get that on occasion now....in fact it started last night and is still bothering me. It is not very painful, more like uncomfortable....feels like a rock is stuck in my stomach, right below my sternum. No food in particular seems to cause it. Since I was never diagnosed or scoped earlier, does that sound like symptoms anyone had? Glad about sleeping through the scope.
  11. I can appreciate your frustration because we just had major surgery and are anxious for results. This may not be the popular thing to say but I think we all need to have a little patience with ourselves. It is unrealistic to think we can lose 10 lbs the first week and keep doing that week after week. Our bodies do not know how to read a scale. I also don't think a dr. should ever get "annoyed" or "mad" if you are not making significant progress after just 4 weeks. We are healing, our bodies are adjusting to the trauma of surgery. This is a marathon it is not a sprint. I have lost 11 lbs in 2 weeks and don't for a minute expect that to continue. I know I am on the road to better health, weight loss is just an extra benefit to keep me motivated. I know we all feel that way so try not to let the scale ruin your motivation. You are eating healthier, learning to count calories, protein and excersising. You have already begun to win this life long battle with food that many of us have fought. The weight loss is just our reward and it will come in time. Just my honest opinion. Hang in there!!
  12. Lost 12 gained back 3-4 and wanna kick someone. Also no restriction.........but I have been care of what I eat!! And less than 1000 a day!!
  13. I'm two weeks post op (Monday) and I still have meds to take for the h pylori bacteria (I think that's how it's spelled). I haven't been taking them as regularly because I have to crush them and open the capsule and take the powder. I need suggestions. I've contacted the dr just about every day since I've gotten my meds and they say I have to suck it up. Has anyone had this problem? Did you take the pill whole and felt fine after? Prices of Lap Band Surgery

Another KC area person here.... I did the same calling around as you........ The WLSC (not affiliated with any insurance is the 13.5 price no fills or aftercare) I'm going with Dr. Malley because he does take my insurance but his cash price is 16.5K with a year of after care and fills.... (he says he wants to see you every 4 weeks for the first year... and you may or may not get a fill depending on your personal needs) If you self pay you can get in quick because you can schedule at any one of the 3 hospitals he works at....... (I have to wait for Menorah, and they are already booked Through March 8th) IF money was a real issue... I would go to Dr. K in Denver for under 10K because KC to Denver flights are cheap..... (but the weather this year as you know is crazy) I envy you not having to jump through the insurance hurdles... good luck and keep us posted. ohhhhh ya.. you might go to obesity help dot com and look for surgeons in the area.. they have something like 27 local ones that you could do research on .. first step is to attend a seminar... for instance.. there is one close to me (atchison/leavenworth) I also called about 5 places before opting for Malley... and mostly it was the knowledge and courtesy of the person answer the phone and questions.... (plus I'd heard good things about him on here and other places) Stanely Hoehn is another one I've heard good things about. Opie (Olathe is getting started) and Wanda K (I think is her name) has also gotten rave reviews.

    Lots of pills

Yes. All these pills. In the morning my husband calls it my 2nd breakfast. I'm almost 4 weeks out and they are so hard to remember, but it's getting better. It new habits. I can say, they are helping my water intake.

    Surgery THIS Thursday!

The day of my surgery the only thing that was a hassle (esp for my family waiting at the hospital) was that my doctor called to move up my surgery by an hour. Something must have happened in an earlier surgery because my surgery was about 4 hour late. I was told I would be given a relaxation shot prior to surgery. Only problem was they would not give me the shot until I met with the surgeon. So I lay in the preop area for 4 hours stressing out with my mother sitting there. By that point I was now pretty hungry since I had'nt eaten since the day before. Post surgery I did really well. My doctor does not do catheters so I was up every 30 minutes going to the bathroom. If at all possible I would try to exit the hospital bed from the side opposite of where your port is located. I was on pain meds only overnight and the next morning it was hurting to get up to use the bathroom. But I would say even on no med/tylenol it was about a 3 on a scale of 1-10. I had no pain sitting or once laying down; and no pain after standing. I also had no gas pain. My first couple nights after the surgery I was up several times in the night to use the bathroom. I was after all on a liquid diet. Friday - First day home took naps on the couch. Saturday- Rested in morning, afternoon went to several stores short walks (my mother drove) Sunday Drove with my mother to her house for the day (1.5 hours each way) Rested Went outside visited with family Mon.- Back to the gym! Treadmill about 40 minutes no incline. There are a lot of stories of people who had pain so that was stressing me out. I am allergic to morphine, codein, etc so I am unable to take commonly used perscription pain killers. I don't know if I was just lucky or have a high pain tolerance but the surgery pain was really not bad. I have a back problem that when it goes out is 100 times more painful than my incisions were.
  17. Age: 19 HW: 296 SW: 280 CW: 257 I’m 7 weeks post-op and I was solid at the gym for about two weeks when I got the approval from my surgeon then my schedule got pretty hectic and stopped but I’m down 39 pounds so far and ready to get back to the gym! What’s your favorite workouts to do at the gym (or at home)? I currently work out at LA Fitness I mainly do cardio but I’m interested in signing up for the classes they offer there such as yoga and kick boxing.

    Couples being banded??

My Hubby & I hope to be banded in January. We should have surgery dates shortly. We have been going through the 6 month nutrition counseling & all the pre-op testing. My BMI is 38 with 2 co-morbidities. Hubby's is 43. We are both 45 and have been married for 21 years. It only makes sense that we do this together. We are not going to be banded on the same day - but hopefully within a few weeks of each other. I look forward to staying in touch with all of you!
  19. Hi: I'm actually about 3 weeks from surgery, but I was wondering whether you were told to go to all liquids for the 2 weeks prior to surgery. Thanks Howard

    Favorite workouts!

I found that getting a personal trainer early on to help me set up a solid routine helped. At the gym right now, I work with my trainer 2x a month and do a leg routine one day a week, arms a second day and agility a third. I do yoga or Pilates at least once per week for flexibility. I've tried Zumba and its fun, but never seem to find a class that fits my schedule. I also fence (as in en garde) 5 hours a week. All the other training I do is to support my fencing. Best of luck.

    Surgery Tomorrow

God Bless to the both of you. Before my surgery I was terrified. - Really I was terrified. I have a five year old and I did not want to leave my baby motherless. Upon waking up my first thoughts were "Thank you Jesus." I thanked Him over and over again. Just like I know He watched over me, I know He will be watching over you Hunee B and you Tymeforachange. I am currently three weeks post op. I don't regret having it. I've lost 16 pounds and am learning that 16lbs in three weeks is a good thing (at first I thought I should be losing at a much faster pace). I am sending up a prayer for you two right now. I look forward to hearing about your experiences and your successes.

    1 week post op

hi everyone! i am 1 week post op and down 12 lbs! each day i felt was getting better and better, until today. i dont even want to eat and i keep getting this terrible pain in the middle of my stomach. is this normal? any advice? - i am also super tired all day long.
  24. Congrats on getting to this point. I dio not have that ins so I can't say. But I just finished the sleep study, tomorrow I see the nutrionist and Wed I have my first required class. So I guess I am half way there. I have heard and read on this forum from diff ins that approval has taken any where from 1 week to 8 weeks. So i guess it is really hard to determine unless some one with the same insurance chimes in..Good Luck..And I hope they approve soon..... Connie
