Submitted to Aetna Ins for Revision Surgery
Emilee68 replied to PSUCookie's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Hi there! I am waiting to hear from Aetna on my sleeve to bypass revision. I called today and they said it's in review as of the 26th. Said it could take 7-10 days. Just curious...were you approved? How long did it take to hear back for a final decision? Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N910A using the BariatricPal App -
@@Band07 Wow, so I'm just thinking, if you're bypass was 9' and you are still doing so well nutrition wise, then at a 5' bypass I shouldn't have a problem either.. Well at least that's what I hope for Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

So many questions about MGB
Crystal Cole replied to mmy's topic in Mini Gastric Bypass Surgery Forum
Hi. I know this is an old post but I am a current VSGER considering being revised to a MGB. I'm 5"6 and 220 lbs and I've just been wondering if I would be considered large enough for the MGB. My BMI is 35. I've heard of some Mrs not approving the MGB because patient wasn't overweight enough. I will also be going to Tijuana mexico btw. Thanks for any input. -
ISO success stories with Hashimoto's and Sleeve
Phoenix20 replied to kellieym's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
hi there. i have been on hypothyroid meds for like at least 7 years. i too have struggled with weight and my primary recommended i look into vsg. i know some people develop GERD but as sleeve is the less invasive, that is the best option for many people, myself included. you can always revise if you have to, but many people seem to thrive after vsg though each case is unique in its own way. i've been back and forth but i think this is the best option for me and im sticking to my july 20 vsg date. good luck to you! -
ISO success stories with Hashimoto's and Sleeve
New&Improved replied to kellieym's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
No thyroid issues but the bypass has totally changed my metabolism and the way my body processes food after 8.5 months I'm in maintenance after losing 156lbs total -
I'm 7.5 weeks out - gastric bypass. I still have a lot of diaphragm discomfort. Wearing a bra makes it worse. I think that wearing bottoms with a high or snug waistband, does too. My surgeon's office has referred me for an upper GI series. I reckon it will come back "normal". I think my problem is just what I've been wearing and the activity I've been doing.

Revision on 12/1! Very nervous!
BonitaF replied to amyg80's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I'm in the same boat--my revision is December 8! Let's stay in touch--we are both going to be fine! -
Hello all! So on Tues morning, 12/1, I go in for my revision. I'm very nervous and a bit scared. I'm so nervous of failing again, but most of all scared of not waking from the surgery. Not sure why, but I think having a nearly 1yr old now makes things a bit more frightful. Any words of encouragement or success stories are welcomed!

Veterans....#1 thing you miss / don't miss
gowalking replied to Kindle's topic in WLS Veteran's Forum
@oregondaisy..I was widowed at 36. it was also a long time ago but I sure do have a good idea what you went through and what Julie is going thru. She and I have PM'd as well. Also sorry to hear about your band. I too am banded and am always super alert to anything in order to be proactive. I'd hate to have issues and have to revise to another WLS. -
Hi Christan I'm rather a newbie in a different way. I just had my RNY surgery on September 5th, was in the hospital for 2 days so this was my first full day home. Things are going pretty good. I have to be on blood thinner shots for 3 weeks , the stuff is lovenox, guess it is doing its job , my lower belly looks like someone took a lawn roller to me, but at least I have lessened my chances of throwing a pulmonary emboli or having a stroke. The actual incisions are pretty okay, its the Technicolor tummy that gives me a jolt. But I feel whole lot bettter, better than Even I could guess. And Christian if you doctor advises you a bypass accept his suggestion. I will lose my weight faster than my sleeved sisters as a rule. But then we all are indivuals, and there may be some that no nobody was enough, seldom, loses at the same rate. As a guy you will lose faster than us girls. But I wish you well, and BYPASS-VILLE is as nice a place as SLEEVE-TOWN. So makes your choices and start a new life.

Revision due to GERD
Christina760 replied to Nurse Crystal's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Depends on insurance. Usually for a revision you have to have some type of complication w the original wls -
I have actually lost more quickly this time around. I had my band placed in 2008 and fought it for years only ever losing about 60 lbs. I had my revision on May 7 and have lost just shy of 50 lbs (including my pre-op weight loss) I am now at my lowest weight since I was 19, I am currently 36. As far as restriction, with me it isn't the same. I don't feel restriction like with the band. I just get full (really quickly). I had to stop myself from looking for the same feeling because it is totally different.

@@hubbark1 5 pounds a month with the band is about what I lost. I did lose 105 pounds with the band and I felt great for a couple of years. Then I got sick with acid reflux and it was because my band slipped. I did revision surgery and it slipped again. I got the band removed at that time and I gained all my weight back and then some. I'm happy I was able to get the bypass now. I'm 9 weeks out now and I've lost 43 pounds. I feel like it's slower than others and I have to be careful because I don't feel restriction like others say they have. All in all I'm thankful and blessed! I don't want to sit and complain. Good luck to you!

Gastric-Bypass, hypoglycemia and Naltrexone?
OKCPirate posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
The moodswing for a woman of 26 years with Gastric-Bypass was caused by a drop of the blood-sugar-level, they call it hypoglycemia. She sometimes get those low level and the she becomes irritated, faint in the head, and starts sweating. After taking Naltrexone she gets the same moodswing, but no sweating. Now she takes the Naltrexone with quick sugar of grapes and … tadaa : OK ! Naltrexone and Hypoglycemia are connected : https://www.researchgate.net/publication/281644521_Naltrexone_for_treatment_of_impaired_awareness_of_hypoglycemia_in_type_1_diabetes_A_randomized_clinical_trial https://www.google.be/search?q=naltrexone+blood+sugar&ie=&oe=#q=naltrexone%20hypoglycemia Has anyone else had this problem? What an interesting solution to the sweating issue. -
Discomfort with drinking and eating
SleeveandRNYchica replied to dolphinkrazy22's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had bypass 10/21. I can drink comfortably with no problem. At first it would take me hours to drink a protein shake, now I can drink a premier protein in about 30-40 minutes. Some days I prefer something flavored like propel and other days just plain H2O. My program does not allow rice, bread, pasta or quinoa. They have more low carb/paleo program. -
Ensure Protein Shakes
James Marusek replied to sgaddarich's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The three most important elements after RNY gastric bypass surgery are to meet your daily Protein, Fluid and Vitamin requirements. food is secondary because your body is converting your stored fat into the energy that drives your body. Thus you lose weight. Weight loss is achieved after surgery through meal volume control. You begin at 2 ounces (1/4 cup) per meal and gradually over the next year and a half increase the volume to 1 cup per meal. With this minuscule amount of food, it is next to impossible to meet your protein daily requirements by food alone, so therefore you need to rely on supplements such as protein shakes. It is common for your taste buds to change after surgery. Many experience problems drinking protein shakes. You do not have to like protein shakes only tolerate them. There are many varieties of protein shakes available today. Experiment until you can find one you can tolerate. Whatever Protein shake you settle on it should be low on sugar and high on protein. -

Sleeve or bypass
Pinkberry2 replied to Frenchie1977's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I agree it seemed less invasive and more straightforward my doctor also said the risk for complications is higher in bypass then with sleeve also my aunt had gastric bypass about 10 years ago and has been really sick also I didn't like the malabsorption Factor the dumping syndrome and the fact that it seemed like I would have to watch what I ate even more closely with gastric bypass like what if I'm at a new restaurant and it has something my new couch wouldn't agree with dumping syndrome byterrified me and the thought of my intestines being rearranged I didn't like that I am higher BMI patient BMI 52 but I love to workout so I don't see this being an issue but that is what led me to my decision. -

To tell or not to tell? WLS
bjc1971 replied to RLH7882's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am very private and decided to tell only close family. Now almost 4 months have passed and just last week my stepsons girlfriend saw me and kept hinting if I had a Lapband (I had gastric bypass). I just avoided the questions... I wish I were more like some of you and have no problem telling others about my surgery but my mind goes back to the days of yo-yo dieting... I would tell others I was dieting... I would lose 20 pounds... People would be proud of me... Then I would gain back 30!! In the back of my mind I'm still scared like that!! I've done great so far... My first appointment I was 306 lbs 5'4". During the 6 month diet I went to 280. Ended my 2 week preop diet at 270. Surgery 9/21/15. Today I'm 225. I still have a ways to go but I feel better than I can ever remember in my life!!! -
Protein shakes and food source protein
mmy replied to mmy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
No I'm not counting calories at all. I had a mini gastric bypass which was even more modified to suite me since my BMI is only 33. I think I won't be able to order isopure since no shipping company seems to be willing to ship food items especially in glass bottles. They only option I'm left with now is the GNC brand isolate & hydrolyzed protein. Which tastes horrible. I wish there were protein daily injectables or maybe pills to just swallow Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
I am still in the decision phase of this all...I have talked things over with my husband and I have made up in my mind that I want to go through with the "lapband" surgery instead of the "bypass" My biggest question(s) are: With the weight loss being slower and more consistent...how does your body feel/adapt? Will I come out looking like some "bypass" post ops? I have two friends and they look entirely different one looks healthy and the other sickly..... WHERE DOES THE SALINE GO....ONCE INJECTED INTO THE BAND??????? I ALSO HEARD THAT IT'S NOT SALINE, IT'S SILICONE????????????? DOES THE LIQUID ABSORB INTO OUR BODIES AFTER SOO LONG??????? Can anyone out there help me....answer these questions?
