Preexisting Gerd before and after Sleeve
MasR posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi everyone, Im new here as this is my second post in 2 days. I have a question regarding GERD. Im 32 been pretty much overweight all my life and the small time (about 10 years ago) when i was in great shape, i did not suffer from gerd. I also have a small hiatal hernia that may or may not need to be repaired. I do not take medicine for the Gerd, it really doesn't bother me to be honest. I have been reading that preexisting GERD prior to the sleeve can worsen. So much so, that many times the surgeon will suggest a revision to the bypass. The bypass scares the life out of me and i just dont want to do it. No disrespect to bypass patients, But I rather not surgery than get a bypass Studies can only show you so much and Id really like to hear some of your first hand experiences. Did it get worse, Better, same? Also, did any of you get the LINX installed? If so, howd did that go? -
1 day post op
ndyoung77 replied to Rocky_Mountain_Mama's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I’m now 8 days post op from band revision to vsg. It’s been a major wake up call for me on the difference of recovery and wanting food. Just remember to drink fluids and it’s ok to be in pain I wasn’t expecting it to be like how it is . Good luck -
Having a bypass, revision, on 5/27 - just spoke to my surgeon via teleconference... finally moving forward. I didn't have any hair loss with the original surgery - sleeve, back in 2015. I had thinning but was on Biotin. Is the revision, bypass, worse for thinning/losing hair?

Reflux remains after revision 😩
ge0rgette2 replied to itzmekc's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
For some reason, I would think you would have the opposite affect, out the other end since it's intestines. Why are revisions slower paced for weight loss, do you think? Just got off the phone w/ my surgeon - had a tele visit, hospitals opening up there, I won't be on a COVID floor, but COVID will be in the hospital somewhere.. I feel comfortable ... as I know they'll clean and take precautions, etc. plus my husband had a mild case of Covid about 7 weeks ago ..... so I've been exposed.. Just need to stay safe now and not get it to have surgery. -

Reflux remains after revision 😩
catwoman7 replied to itzmekc's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
You can definitely throw up after bypass! I wonder where people got the idea that you can't?? weight loss after revisions IS slow for most people how long ago was your revision? I'm surprised you're still having reflux. If it was recent, does your surgeon have you on a PPI? Most surgeons put people on them for the first 3-6 months (for revisions AND for virgin surgeries. -
35 male but with bypass. Surgery was quick. But recovery for me was a little bit harder than some was in excruciating pain for the first 24hrs but had some good drugs given by IV... But I'm a sook haha. I was in bed for the first 2 days.. the time went quick though.. belly was tight swollen for a while though.. had 5 holes in your belly.. 8 months since start of my journey 6.5 months since surgery and I'm below goal and my skin isn't that much of an issue I'm not sure why I got lucky might be the amount of water I drink everyday.... Don't really have much of a social life still in recovery mode in my head but my new look and body has definitely helped my social anxiety issues.. People in general treat you better when you're "skinny"

Can you take Tumeric after gastric bypass
Lpacheco78 posted a topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
I’ve done a little reading on the benefits of Tumeric, and wondered if anyone has tried taking this supplement and did it help? I didn’t know if it was safe to take after gastric bypass. I’m about 3 years out from surgery -
Hate bypass
New&Improved replied to DesperateEC's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Yes everyone knows that a 2nd or 3rd surgery is totally different to a first surgery I'm glad I made the right choice and did months of research before choosing the BYPASS. Seen many people needing to be revised to bypass for many reasons over the years. My journey lasted about 8 months from when I began my pre-op diet to when I felt I was in maintenance and all I did was eat very little calories and carbs and was very strict on myself living off shakes predominantly for months and shed 154lbs and now BMI is 22.7 I feel great. I look great. And my metabolism is amazing. -
Reflux remains after revision 😩
itzmekc replied to itzmekc's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
In the beginning I was shocked at how much I could drink, never felt full from drinking like I did with the sleeve. Once I started eating solid food I felt the restriction, and I am still learning not to take that extra bite because I will have a very uncomfortable feeling and thick saliva and throwing up is the only thing I can do to feel better. I have had a few instances where out of no where I am running with a watery mouth to vomit. I remember being told you can’t throw up after bypass and that’s clearly not true! My reflux still sucks, and the weight loss is SLOWWWWWW. -
Dear all, I am really so happy to find this forum. I was sleeved in 9 December 2019 in Germany and everything was so perfect for me so far. My Dr told me that after two months i should reduce the pills of PPI slowly. i really did so. It is my fifth month so far and i cannot reduce for more than one pill 40mg for each three days. I really tried a lot but it does not work. in the third day i start feeling some slight pain in my stomach and others i have slight pain in my tonsils. Anyone had a similar story? i am really afraid of having a chronic GERD and then converting to bypass. A last question is about weight loss. since two months my weight loss is very slow. It is a kilo and a half or two kilos maximum. Does it mean that i will not reach my goal? I was 146 kilo. Now i am 114 Thanks a lot

ISO success stories with Hashimoto's and Sleeve
Losingit2018 replied to kellieym's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I have hypothyroid and have had sleeve surgery. Had to revise to bypass because of severe GERD. I have had much more success with the bypass although I did lose weight with the sleeve. If I had it to do all over again, I would go straight for bypass. Mostly because of the high rate of gerd among people that are sleeved. I also believe that the bypass is just a much better surgery as far as losing weight. It has been for me. -
How Bad is the Flight Home?
Hop_Scotch replied to FinallyLosingIt20's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I had my sleeve surgery on a Wednesday and flew home the Saturday. I had planned on staying longer after my surgery but due to possible plane cancellations (coronavirus) I flew home earlier. Surgeon said I could fly home the Friday if I wanted, I definitely wasn't up to the Friday. Decided to see how I felt the the following day and I felt fine to fly. I travelled solo, so my issue was my suitcase, thankfully I had packed light and used proper manual handling technique to put my case on the belt at check in, and again when picking up the case at arrivals. That was more a drag off the belt and onto the floor. My flight was about 1hr 45minutes - all good there. I didn't need to get up and walk about due to gas pains or anything. I think the biggest worry for you is (1) you don't know yet how you are going to feel after the surgery and if you will be feeling well enough to travel (2) lack of possible social distancing after surgery, not sure I would want the risk of catching covid19 (just after surgery or anytime for that matter) now that it has blown out...hopefully more reined in by then though. (There was only 19 people on my flight home due to massive cancellations back in March and I had no one around at all). What surgery are you having? You may need more time following a bypass? Is your surgeon happy for you to fly four hours after surgery two days before ? Not able to stay an extra night at a hotel somewhere? -
Can someone tell me how long it took
Hop_Scotch replied to DwGirl's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
My timing info will probably useful/of interest for anyone in Australia and who have a revision from ESG to sleeve. ESG is not covered by medicare or private health insurance in Australia so no real requirements other than some blood tests. Could have had my ESG within three or four weeks of my initial appointment with the doctor, however, I delayed the procedure for some leave that was already planned a few months away. 18 months later for my revision to sleeve I went out of state to a surgeon who had already done ESG conversions to sleeve (some will only do bypasses). I was fortunate, the office arranged for me to have an endoscope the day following my initial consult and from there it was less about one month to my sleeve. I had some bloods taken in between, Medicare/private health insurance covered this one but I did have out of pocket costs. There were no required to lose weight prior to the surgery or pysch clearances. There was one appt with the dietician (did that the same day as my initial consult) and two appointments following the surgery. -
ISO success stories with Hashimoto's and Sleeve
kellieym posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hi! I am just starting the decision process. Like many of you I have tried everything and I do mean everything to try and lose weight. I have had Hashimoto's hypothyroid for over 20 years. I have required frequent medication adjustments even with diet restrictions. I have consulted with 2 surgeons, one recommended bypass since my loss has been so stubborn but the other thought I could reach my goals with the sleeve (as I prefer) but may need to consider a thyroidectomy due to the difficulty I have had stabilizing my thyroid function. I am just looking for any success stories of patients that have had either procedure who have also had trouble with hypothyroid. -
Hate bypass

Don’t get me wrong you guys. My revision was done on March 9 and I’ve already lost 35 pounds so I’m happy, it’s just not what I was expecting . I had the perfect sleeve but the pregnancies forced my pouch to spread. The last pregnancy I was on complete bed rest for the entire thing. I guess I’m sad -

Hey yes first surgery and we all know the first surgery will be different to someone who had more than 1... I've gone from 322 to 170lbs in 8 months with bypass and still now some days I'm not even hungry. -
My surgery revision from band to bypass was yesterday morning and I got home tonight about 5pm. I’m very sleepy and I will say there is good amount of pain on my left side which is controlled by medication. The biggest challenge I have this early is having a hard time getting comfortable and I have no interest in food. I’m forcing broth and jello. Last week I couldn’t imagine only eating broth and jello and today, I cant imagine being hungry ever. So weird. Even through the fog and pain, I have no regrets!

EXACTLY! With the sleeve the weight literally falls off!! With the bypass it’s no physical stopping. I’m eating like I have the sleeve ( small bites) but the fact that I don’t get the full sensation temps me to snack😢😢 message you all the new sleeve patients : EMBRACE THE RESTRICTION!!!! -
Corona delaying weight loss surgery dates? Anyone?
Suzq328 replied to MaybeMeow's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I’m in NC and got the call today, I’m scheduled for RNY bypass on May 25th. Started the liver shrinking diet after the call. I’m just want to get this journey started and get healthy! -
Corona delaying weight loss surgery dates? Anyone?
PinknFlawless replied to MaybeMeow's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I’m going in this Friday, the 15th for gastric bypass. I’m super nervous and struggling with this liver shrink diet. Initially scheduled for April 27th, the quarantine made me crave everything ever eaten by man, so it made it harder after I started the liver shrink then got rescheduled. Congratulations to all those with dates, and those without, I’m sure they’ll be getting you in before too long. Our hospitals sent out emails acknowledging that whether it’s elective or not, these surgeries are needed and our health is at risk the longer that they’re put off, so hopefully everyone looks at it that way and gets everyone in. Best of luck! -
hi - my nutritionist emailed me a new revised, pre and post bariatric plan... was unsure if it was different from my previous surgery. She has, per day - Vitamin - Bariatric Advantage with or without Iron, Celebrate Mutli with Iron - 18mg, 35, 45, and 60mg too - Bariatric Fusion - all one per day. Calcium Citrate and Vitamin D - Bariatric Advantage, Celebrate, Bariatric Fusion or ReViva Calcium Calcium is 1200-1500mg and vitamin D - 400-800IU unless deficient 2000IU Iron with Vitamin C - 250mg vitamin B12 - 350-500mg I'm going to make a list and order it so I have it when I return home from surgery. Has anyone had the above mentioned brands - I was thinking it doesn't really matter as long as the dosages are the same - etc... Like someone said, Walgreens or CVS generics are just fine. I'll compare everything before I order
-
This is what my program recommends for Sleeve and Bypass: Morning: • One A Day Women’s Vitamin • Vitamin D 2,000 • Vitamin B12 500 mcg • Vitron C Iron Noon • Viactive Calcium With Dinner • Viactive Calcium Evening • Viactive Calcium I keep track of it with a free app called Medisafe. The only chew is the Calcium. I think at 1.5 years out I could probably get rid of some of it, but I feel great and my bloodwork is always good, so I just take it. I get most of these generic at CVS so it's 20% off and BOGO.
