Pre-op diet starts tomorrow
zizi_tops replied to Stephanielp's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@bill1130 I am on my second shake for the day and I did have half a yogurt (as per my plan) but I am not allowed to take any pills pre-op so I haven't had any Vitamins in 3 days. -
Any April Surgery Dates?
See.Allie.Run replied to rokse23's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
One week left for me. I’ve struggled a little with the pre-op diet the last couple of days, mostly because I can’t stomach (still) protein shakes so I’m mostly eating yogurt, one egg and bone broth. I did cheat yesterday (I was soooo hungry) and now feel really guilty. Ugh. -
Any April Surgery Dates?
bsumner replied to rokse23's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am on full liquids. I am doing like 3 shakes a day, yogurt, pudding, jello (all sugar free). Of course adding in the water, gatorade zero, and crystal light. No caffeine either-that has added to my fatigue too. I did try some broth yesterday to try and get used to it for post op and its not my favorite by far. I keep hearing that the second week is better. Hoping this is true. Are you having the sleeve? -
Okay. Started out with a lot of pain in my chest and my feet were very swollen, thankfully 4th day the swelling went down and now for the most part the only pain I have is when I eat. Been on soft foods for two days and vegetables and fruits do not go down well. Yogurt has been the easiest.

:smile:Hi there! Everytime I get hungry I eat a little yogurt or jello it helps out a little. Seems like I'm eating all day. Talked to the dietician today she said it was okay. I really get full after drinking my 2 oz broth. in an hour or so I'm hungry again. Cream of Wheat milked down filled me up for about 2 hours. Keep sipping water or protein drinks. sip, sip, sip. Hope that help out a little good luck yes it is hard but let it heal. I'm only 6 days out. I made my own soup stock taste better. Chicken soup, boiling chicken, onion, ginger and hawaiian salt altogether. (sea salt)

Sept. 2010 Bandsters !!!
hah131 replied to Brian-LA's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Lisa, I'll give you the run down of my typical week exercise and nutrition-wise. Monday, Wednesday, and Friday - lap swimming for 35 minutes at 5:30 am, 30 minute walk around 12:30 pm, 35 minute walk with the dogs 4:30 pm, 60 minute zumba (all except Friday) 6 pm Tuesday/Thursday - 30 minute walk 12:30 pm, 45 minute walk with the dogs 4:30 pm, 3-5 mile run 6 pm, 45 minute video - either kickboxing or some other cardio Saturday - 60 minute boot camp 9 am, 60 minute walk with the dogs (sometimes longer) Sunday - 60 minute walk with the dogs, run and/or video As far as my diet goes, it's pretty monotonous, especially during the work-week. It generally looks like this: Breakfast 10 am - fat free plan greek yogurt with .33 serving of Protein powder mixed in (146 calories, 26.6 g protein) Snack 1 pm - Protein shake (30 grams protein, 160 calories) lunch 3:30 pm - 1 hard boiled egg, 1/4 cup low fat cottage cheese, 2 oz raw veggie (cauliflower, broccoli, or carrots) (about 132 calories, about 14.4 g protein) Snack - 6ish pm - protein shake and one serving PB2 (115 calories, 18 g. protein) dinner - 8 pm - large salad with either tuna, salmon, edamame, bun-less veggie burger, or tofu - salad includes 3 oz romaine lettuce, 0.3 oz alfalfa sprouts, 2 oz broccoli, 2 oz cauliflower, 2 oz mushrooms, 1 oz celery, 1 oz green or red pepper, 1 oz carrots, 1/2 tablespoon greek dressing - 88 calories for salad without protein, protein ranges from 60-100 calories. Lately I've added in a small amount of fruit - 4 oz peach, 1 small plum, 4 oz mango, 6 oz apple, or a large tomato. I take one chewable multi-vitamin per day, 1200 calcium - one at breakfast, one at dinner, 2 times a week, I take a B12, and 2-3 times a week, I take 1000mg D3. (my multi-vitamin and calcium are an extra 30 calories per day) I just had my blood taken last Saturday in preparation for my year appt on the 20th. I'll know better then how my Vitamin levels look, but I'm really strict with taking my Vitamins. Eventually, when I'm in maintenance, I'd like to up my calorie intake to somewhere between 1000-1200 per day, but for right now, I'm sticking with the range I've been eating. I hope that helps! -

Hi all. You are right Joany, you can eat all the icecream and candy you want, no restriciton will stop it, to bad we don't have a quick super fill, close the whole up when you are near stuff like that, then let it out- ha ha. The other problem with the sweets is they make me even hungrier once I've had the sugar. my instinct diet book is big on desserts with fiber and fruit and protien- all three if you can, so you feel more full and satisfied. My favorite one is a 100 calorie- light and fit vanilla yogurt (the low cal kind- with aspertame or whatever, my yogurt during the day is a live active yogurt, and has more cals, but this is dessert) high fiber cereal, frozen raspberries, and melted dark chocolate- the portions work out to 100 cals- and it is so satisfying - and feels like a real dessert. not really pretty, I wouldn't serve it at a party, but for me it's great. so Joany I am self pay, no coverage- I have an HSA that I use for this, I hope the IRS doesn't mind. This blind fill place I think should be good, I hope, and if not they are close enough to not be a problem. I guess some blind fill places say if you have to come back for adjustment within 2 weeks it will be 50$. so hopefully that will be the case. I love the OCC dr's in Tijuana, very professional, and they do a great job. Thier fills are tops for sure, wish I lived in the area. But for me it's a day off work, babysitting, plus probably like 500$ in flying, parking, ground transport and other fees. I know some places charge almost 400 for a fill, so this 150 place is exciting prospect and I won't have to take off work or get a sitter. well have a great day all -
Omg! I Don't Like Greek Yogurt...
lollyfidy1965 replied to MsThickSlimSexy's topic in Food and Nutrition
My "yogurt cocktail"... Plain fat-free yogurt, cherry flavoring (or vanilla, or any other flavor you like), add Splenda to sweeten to your liking. No fat, no added sugar, no problem! Oh, yeah...and it tastes pretty darn yummy, too! As for me...I can't even stand the smell of Greek yogurt...regardless of the brand, flavor, whatever. Its disgusting. LOL -
January bandsters our time is coming!!!
picklehead replied to KawasakiChick's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Surgery is January 7th. So VERY close. Kind of nervous. And definitely HUNGRY. Have been on 10 day pre-op diet. First 7 days was yogurt, cottage cheese, protein shakes and clear fluids. Starting this morning the next 3 days are all just clear fluids. Who thought I could ever miss cottage cheese so much. Anyway, just wanted to say HI. Hope you all have a great experience this month. Take Care! -
Reno or N. Nevada Bandsters out there???
NVgirl replied to Success in lapband's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hi Guys - Just wanted to check in. I was banded on Monday and I gotta tell you, this surgery kicked my ass! I've had several laproscopic surgeries before, always came through just fine, no gas, no pain. Not this time! Tuesday and Wednesday were the worst, with the pain and nausea. Feeling better now, just have a very low energy level. Got out of the house for a few hours today and almost passed out in Eddie Bauer! Hunger is minimal. I've been living on yogurt, soup, thinned mashed potatoes and water. It's so weird to me to not be hungry, or to be full before I'm even done eating! I'll start back on some protien shakes next week. My best to everyone! -
Concerned About Pre-Op Diet...
AmandaBelle75 replied to JessRess's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am on a full liquid diet. I can have Gatorade 2, sugar free popsicles, sugar free jello, protein shakes, broth and crystal light. I could also have milk, yogurt and cottage cheese but I don't like any of those things. I just started my liquid diet today. 9 days left to go! -
Reno or N. Nevada Bandsters out there???
nvalicia replied to Success in lapband's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I had a question for you all. I know the guidelines for what types of food I should be eating week by week, but when did you try more solid foods? When I went in for my post op appoinment last week they told me that I was not eating enough (I have been very tired). I just can't stomach more pudding, yogurt, shakes, or etc. right now. -

Sept. 2010 Bandsters !!!
LisaA replied to Brian-LA's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
HI all, back finally! good to read the comments. Miss Joany, I hope your infection keeps getting better! eat lots of live yogurt while you are doing those antibiotics. So I am curious, doing a bit of a survey. sort of long. Just curious about some of this stuff howdy there. so I'm taking a poll, let me know. I hope you all are doing well. 1. how many cc's you have in your band 2. do you feel you have restriction- what does that mean for you? 3. are your calories tending to stay below like 1600 (or what are your calories generally.) 4. what is your weight loss like. 5. are you hungry between meals. 6. are you exercising, and how much 7. how much water are you drinking? I'll start. 1. how many cc's you have in your band
4.5 from OCC. I'm planning on going back, for 1 more fill, maybe depending on what people say with restriction about how they feel. But it won't be till after the holidays.
2. do you feel you have restriction- what does that mean for you?
last week, there were things that I felt were cool, like I would get a tiny nasal drip, and I took that as a soft stop, and I wasn't getting hungry between meal. I feel like this weekend I ate till I felt very full, and never got the nasal drip. this was the first time since my fill. so maybe that sign is not happening. I will see today if I get hungry between meals, if I'm able to keep at 1200 cals per day, and not feel hungry between meals I will be happy with the way things are. we shall see.
3. are your calories tending to stay below like 1600 (or what are your calories generally.)
generally yeas, below 1300-1200. but I don't count everyday, I also do some days where I just do what Miranda said for portions. I feel Sunday I went over my goal. but I didn't count, I need to get better with keeping track and knowing even when my schedule is strange.

4. what is your weight loss like. I've lost all the weight plus 1 lb that I gained from Thanksgiving weekend. I started 298 I am now 266 my surgery date I was 280 so since surgery I've lost 14 lbs in basically 10 weeks. that is not my goal, I'd really like 2 lbs per week, would still be happy with an average of 1.5 per week. I'm at 1.4, I guess with the holidays in the mix maybe I should still feel happy. but I would like it to be more, of course.

5. are you hungry between meals.
I feel I am mostly not hungry between meals, as time goes on since my fill, my hunger has increased between meals, but I am still able to deal with it, with my yogurt or piece of fruit, which is part of my daily food plan and staying under 1200 cals. so I am ok with that. Once I went to bed, and my belly was grumbling. but I drank some water, I abated and I fell asleep. 6. are you exercising, and how much this has not been that good this last week. I have a goal to walk somewhat briscly for a mile each day. This is 20 minutes of exercising a day. I'd like to add to that, but haven't yet. and last week durning hunting season, I did not walk at all. 7. how much water are you drinking? besides exercise this is a huge obstacle. I am trying to drink 64 oz a day, I am pitifully below that. If I could drink during meals I could jack that up. but I don't so I need to increase this a lot. -
I made a greek yogurt dessert and I'm loving it. I mix vanilla greek yogurt, honey (or splenda if you're out of carbs for the day) and cinnamon. Then I half way freeze it. OR you can get Greek Yogurt and mix pumpkin pie spice in it, and then eat it, also delicious and great for thanksgiving when everyone else is eating the real thing!

Omg! I Don't Like Greek Yogurt...
Geminidrive replied to MsThickSlimSexy's topic in Food and Nutrition
I hate the Greek yogurt also, not very appealing, but I add a pomegranate or fruit punch crystal lite package and then I have a flavored yogurt. Test to see how sweet/tart you like the yogurt. This makes it very palatable for me. -

I have wasted so much money in 10 month on trying every brand and flavor I think of Greek yogurt! . I simply cannot stand the taste! I take one taste, and in the trash it goes. I am through with it! Kudos to all of you who can stand the taste. I have to spend my money now on new clothes and can't waste anymore on this stuff! LOL! -
After post op gastric sleeve - my experiences
ChunkCat replied to Raevor85's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Homemade purees should be completely smooth, like yogurt or pudding. No bits, no lumps, no bumps. I was advised to take bites no bigger than my thumbnail and yes, use a baby spoon! Most of us use smaller utensils, at least at the beginning. Even with bites that small, and even though it is pureed, you should chew it just to ensure it is smooth before swallowing. Then set down your spoon/fork and give it time to work its way down. The advice to eat a 1/4 cup is the MAX you should do, NOT the minimum. Most of us could only do a few tablespoons of food to begin with, if that. Don't eat more than your tummy can handle. Give food time to move down your throat and into your stomach before you eat more. Relax, eating should be slow and deliberate. And it should take a lot of time to eat, like 30 minutes or more. Don't drink within 30 minutes of eating. 20 minutes is too soon. Some have to wait a little longer than 30 minutes, it depends on how long you personally need to give digestion to complete and move the food out of your stomach. In the beginning I needed to wait 45 minutes. For many of us, yogurt was considered a puree, it is a heavier texture than a liquid. So if you can do yogurt without thinning it down, you are doing good! It is fine that it was in your full liquid stage, but it is still good to have in pureed stage. Try the above suggestions and see if that helps. It really sounds like you are eating too much too fast. Take the amount of time you think is slow and double it! Take the bite you think is small and half it, at least! Your tummy is very brand new, purees are heavier than shakes, it is normal for them to take longer to make it to your stomach, and longer to digest. ❤️ Good luck!! -
Ricotta Bake (http://theworldaccordingtoeggface.blogspot.com/2007/08/pureed-foods.html), fat free refried Beans with cheddar melted on top, greek yogurt with vanilla Protein powder added in, hummus, pimiento cheese, tuna salad / chicken salad (light mayo and/or greek yogurt), mashed avocado (not a lot of protein but helped me get a little "normal' food in), sugar free chocolate pudding snack with chocolate Protein Powder added in. I will come back if I think of others! Also I think there is a forum on here specifically with pureed food ideas and/or you can search "pureed" and get some more ideas. good luck!

Gain weight....on purpose.
shiftymcgee replied to shiftymcgee's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm allergic to whey and since it seems to be in everything I don't handle shakes so well. I do make a shake with blended cottage cheese and yogurt tho and it's quite good. I can eat great or like a trashcan and it doesn't seem to matter. I fluctuate up and down two or three pounds. I need to gain back quite a bit of fat as I'm having the fat sucked out and put into my bum. I don't want bum implants so I gotta get some fat on the go. -

Dairy allergy....how to get protein?
Zoes.Realm replied to Dk370's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi Dk370,I am big time struggling with the same thing. But I am about to have yogurt even though I can not have milk, lactaid, fairlife, soy or almond milk. My dietitian for the program tells me to keep try different Protein shakes. She mentioned isopure or take the shakes with Water. Atkins now has a protein water. It has 21 grams per bottle. I wasn't a huge fan of it but my mom loves it. It all depends on the person. Hope this helps some Sent from my SM-G935P using the BariatricPal App
