I was extremely lucky! Only 6 weeks! My insurance only required a psych consult and a nutrition consult. Back in 2010 I had a 6 month wait period with nutrition consults and didn't make it through my full 6 months. Different insurance.

I had the disolvable ones, w/ the ends sticking out, but it took several weeks (about 5, cause they were still there when I got my first fill) before they went away altogether.

Anybody NOT need an endoscopy before WLS?
karlee0206 replied to Aodhanmom's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I kept seeing people talk about having one done before surgery and wondered too if I would need one, but my doctor didn’t require me to have it or the sleep study before my surgery which is next week. I think if you have had bad GERD in the past or other GI issues then they would want it. -
Hi! I had surgery the same day as you did. I went to Dr. 1 1/2 week post op and had lost 14lbs. Went back today for my 1st fill and had only lost 1 more.....the reason is "bandster hell" the period between surgery and your first fill where you have no restriction. I honestly felt like nothing had been done to me....so, you are not alone. Today for my first fill Dr. put in 5cc's...said that 2-3 remain in port/tube so only 2-3 would be in band...well, I could not swallow water (even one sip). I immediately threw up and it hurt really bad. So he came back in and took out about 2cc's...I instantly felt better. I just drank some chocolate milk and i can feel restriction!! Here's hoping that I have some restriction!! You will feel better after getting your first fill, but even then I have heard that it could take a couple of fills to feel restriction!! Good Luck!!

So for the last few days I have had some real discomfort. I can eat and drink but fill up sooner (not so terrible). I have some real tenderness on the upper left abdomen and feel bloated. Not constipated. I am seeing my doc later in the week but wondering if anyone has any ideas?

can some veterans help me here?
beachgirl replied to FunnyDuddies's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hey Funny, No, I've had 2 and it's not bad at all. I went by myself and drove the 10 hours round trip by myself as well. They won't hit your tubing or your port because it shows right up on the screen. I had 1.5 and then 2 weeks later .75, total 2.25 and have great restriction. You'll do fine. Email me sometime. I seen all of the mess going on and I sure hate it. Good luck with your fill. -
Stop worrying about the weight loss just yet - you are two days post-op! Right now, focus on healing and setting the stage for future weight loss. This is a marathon, not a sprint. You're only two days post-surgery! (I gained a bit post-surgery too. I was soooo hungry after about 4 days, my doc said I could have oyster crackers and for a week and a half I ate a lot of oyster crackers. LOL And yes, I gained a couple pounds... but once I was healed and eating better, they came back off and I've continued to lose.) Good luck!

Well... today is day 9. Now I am not going to lie, there were a few hard times in these past 9 days, but those were due mostly to behavioral issues. Actually, today I had my first growling stomache (thanks to a staff meeting when I would have been drinking my shake). In actuality though, I have been alright. I am supposed to be doing 5 shakes a day and can have broth... I do not think I have done 5 shakes yet... usually 4 and found some bariatric low-carb, high protein soups (85 cals w/15g protein) that halp me make my day complete. I even work out throughout the week (By the way, that only works if I have about half my shake before and then the remainder right after). I have a SF jello cup whenever I want a treat, H2O and plenty of SF drinks (like Crystal Light). I have to call in and verify my weight in 3 days and if my surgeon is not happy with my progress my surgery will be post-poned. This is what I think about most of the time. I can not even work because I am so caught up in the what ifs. It feels good to say it though. All you posters help me to keep going. I wish every one the best of blessings, and will keep you posted! ~Real

I hadnt worked out like I should have been but as of last week I started my personal training sessions. I do have one complaont MY ARMS OMG they look as if the skin is not popping back in that area maybe its because i had lipo 2 1/2 years ago on my arms but I am going to get thet together some serious arm exercises. I am so happy that I had enough courage to get banded it was one of the best decisions i have made. I just have to stay on my work out sed. no matter what I cant let anything get in my way. I have only had two fills and again I feel so lucky I feel as if I have found my sweet spot. I cant wait to get off of work to go work out I need it just as much as i want it I just hope I can stay focus. -
I got my approval, waiting on a date!!! TN
flipbarnett posted a topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
:clap2::whoo:Hi all. It's been a long 7 months, but I got my approval December 10th. I thought I'd never hear from insurance. The paperwork was submitted to Cigna November 16th. I was beginning to worry, well worry even more. I've worried my friends, my family and my husband till they are sick of hearing about it. NA they are proud that I want to do something about my weight. Like most it's been a life long battle. When I got the call, my preschool class was about to go outside. My assistants laughed as I chanted, I'm gonna get skinny! I goto Dr. Spaw Monday the 17th. I guess for pre-op and visit with him. They say he doesn't have any more December dates open, but it might be January. That's fine with me. I can start the year off with a resolution to loose weight and hoepfully this tool will get me there. Now for the pre-op diet. I start it next week. Good luck to all! Felicia -

Hello Pontiac man..l too live in Mass and Have federal B/C and B/S...when you get your bill from the hospital, make sure you go over it..They were trying to charge me $4,000 for the lap band..a small piece of plastic, stating its billed as durable medical equipment..l have been fighting them as there is nothing in the book that states this, nor anything in my approval letter..l was expecting a bill for $100.00 for the hospital, not $4,000...So many others l work with have had the procedure done and didn't get a bill like mine...l haven't heard from thenm in a couple of weeks so maybe they have figuared it out...HEADS UP... -

5 days post op and i'm feeling...
magpie30 replied to tiffany1521's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
All the things you have listed are totally normal, and nearly all of us have experienced them the first few weeks after surgery. Though i have to say if you were "healthy as a newborn" i don't think you would have been needing WLS ( but i understand what you meant). Most people have trouble with water the first one or two weeks. Try adding some Mio drops to add flavor and help break up the surface tension. Again most people are on some type of antacid the first few months, and the gassy stomach and grumblings are also perfectly normal and there isn't much you can do about them. Just give your body time to heal and recover. You will slowly get your appetite back, though it will be different than before surgery. Instead of feeling the traditional "hunger", you will more feel 'empty', that it's time to put some food in your body. You will feel more normal again, you just have to give it time. While some folks are feeling much better at 1 week out, most need 2 or more weeks before they feel like themselves again. Hang in there, it will get better!! -
I am around 2 1/2 weeks out, and I didn't have a BM for several days either, and when I finally did one day it was very loose more like diarrhea, but remember you are on a liquid diet, so I guess that was pretty normal, from the way my Dr. reacted at my 8 day post op check. Now as soon as I started eating regular food again I also started adding benefiber to my Protein shakes because I knew I was not eating enough Fiber, I was mostly eating meat, eggs. cheese, things to get the protein in, yes I was also trying to eat fruit and veggies, but I know I am not eating enough of them to get all the fiber I need and I don't want to be constipated. As far as the hunger, it is called Bandster Hell because you are not getting any bennifit from the fills yet, just try to eat more often when you are really hungry an watch the choices you make and hopefully this time will pass soon because I an still in it myself:sad:

What's your goal? And what are you doing to get yourself there?
KateP replied to funky_monkey800's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
10lbs a month is optimistic unless you are starting from a very high weight or are male. If you are both, go for it, if you aren't, remember the average loss for banded people is 1-2lbs a week, so less than 10lbs a month. Averages hide the extremes. So even a fast loser might lose 4lbs one month and 12 the next. For me, setting a goal at the highest end of the likely would lead to feelings of failure. In fact, I chose never to set short term goals and my ultimate goal didn't have a deadline. But I know many oeople prefer goals. -
Is it bad to feel full?
FrankyG replied to SleeveMeAlone214's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Your feelings of "full" won't be normal for some time, so stop if you think you are. You can always sip some more later to make up calories or hit Protein goals, but it's better to go a bit less each meal (and just have several small meals) than too much. The concept of a normal "full" you are thinking about may also be something you'll need to figure out once you're eating regular foods again. Most of us that gained enough weight to be considered obese have very flawed perception of fullness. I used to eat to the point of feeling sick sometimes. Portion control was a foreign concept, and even now, I have to remind myself I can always eat more later if I am genuinely hungry, but the food won't disappear forever and I can have whatever I'm eating any time. And once you are on solids (especially hitting your protein goals and eating healthy veggies and complex carbs in moderation), your energy level will start coming back. I feel pretty darned great and have a high energy level now. It just keeps getting better every week, so just keep plugging away at the basics (protein/water/moderate activity whenever possible) and you'll be fine. Good luck! -

I had no idea why my shoulder hurt. People on this site filled me in on the gas/shoulder issue (thanks). It took a few weeks for it to go away completely for me. I would say it was the worst 3-6 days after surgery. I took pain relievers, gas strips, walked and used a heating pad. It does go away. Believe it or not, it was the worst part for me. Hope this helps.

How long til I actually start losing weight?
kimmy42083 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am only 2 days post-op. Went in at 250, now I weigh 256! I haven't had anything solid in me for over a week, and now I'm only drinking about 2 oz every couple of hours (its all I can choke down). I have heard all these stories about people who lost a great deal of weight in their first couple of weeks. I understand that the 6 extra pounds has to be water weight...how do I get it to start coming off? Btw, I'm walking 30 or more minutes a day. I can't walk 30 all at once, so I break it down into 10 minute walks. -
How long til I actually start losing weight?

Give it a week. It took me about that much or a little longer to get rid of all the fluid they pumped me full of post-op. -
10 days til my Gastric Bypass Procedure.
rydellpaige posted a topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hello everyone: My name is Rydell. I am 20 years old and from Pennsylvania. My entire life I've been struggling with my weight. I'm 5' 9" tall. My current weight is 290 pounds but my highest was 311 pounds. It'd be up, down, then wayyyy back up. Dieting for months and months wasn't successful. Meeting with dietitians and sticking to a 1600 calorie intake wasn't successful. The gym 6 days a week was successful for only a short time, then it all bounced right back on. I finally broke down talked to my family doc ably some weight loss pills..his response was, "what about surgery?" I was scared at first. But it was that very moment that I decided it was time to start the journey that would take me through the rest of my life. After doing a required 6 month weigh in program through my insurance, my surgery date is right around the corner. February 10th yall. I am doing my 2 week pre-op diet and I'm struggling. Any ideas on that? Was anyone only required to do one week liquid diet prior to surgery? Any one around my age experience sagging skin that doesn't bounce back? Any advice welcomed on any topic of the gastric bypass!!!! Just no crude criticism. ❤️ Thank you all, Rydell
