It took me about a week for me to notice the restriction. Honestly, I had felt the same, almost to the point of thinking did they really take out 80% of my stomach? By the end of the 2nd week, I started to notice more of the full feelings, and my body started to reject things that days prior I was having no issues getting down. I notice the fullness in my lower chest. A pressure but not the feeling of being overly full. Pace yourself with bites. I noticed I was taking my bites too quick at first and not allowing my body time to really figure out if I was done or not. Almost gave myself about a full min or two before I took another. Which honestly was hard because well for 32 years I've been eating the same way I always had so trying to completely change the way I eat has been a small struggle.

Finally home and got that tomato soup I was craving since last week. It is fantastic! It’s odd because I’m not hungry, but I’m not noticing any restriction either? I’m still on full liquids… so does that make a difference? For those of that have had the sleeve, what does restriction feel like? I understand it is different for everyone. Thanks for your help. -
So I am 13 months post op. Lost over 120 pounds. Did just have my gallbladder out about 3 weeks ago. I’m starting to have this sharp pain in my stomach when I eat. Any thoughts/ ideas?

Yea we all loose weight at different rates. some are slower some are fast. I am 4 months post op and i have lost almost 80lb, but some months i loose a good amount of weight and some i dont. Last month i only lost like 7lb because i hit a stall at 3 months. but in the last 2 weeks i have lost almost 10lb so i am hoping i am out of my stall. No hair loss at all (yet) But yea eating those carbs are getting you back into a bad habit so i would try to avoid that

For sure. It's actually surprising to me just how different they seem to be? Here's mine: Pre-op: Two weeks long -- Only 3-4 protein shakes per day and unlimited clear, sugar-free liquids (which can include SF Popsicles and SF Jello). Post-Op Stage 1: Days 1-3 -- Only Sugar-Free Clear Liquids Stage 2: Days 4-7 -- Add in Protein Drinks, Skim or 1% Milk. Can also use Unsweetened soy or almond milk. Stage 3a: Days 8-14 -- Add in Cottage Cheese, Yogurt and/or Ricotta Cheese Stage 3b: Days 15-30 -- Add in Pureed Meats, Beans, Low Fat Cream Soups, Cooked Pureed Veggies. Eggs allowed, but must be soft. Fruit not allowed. Stage 4: Days 31-60 -- Low Fat Solid Foods, focused on protein first and introducing only 1 new food at a time. Fruits and veggies okay, but should be cooked. Best to avoid nuts and seeds. Stage 5: Lifelong -- Add in Raw fruits and veggies as tolerated. How does that compare to everyone else? -
7 weeks and I can already notice the difference!

i do not have a surgery date yet, but have been trending down my carb count to prepare for my 3 week low carb/keto diet (50 total carbs a day). Figure it will help me loose more weight before surgery and be more psychologically comfortable and ready for the whole process. i have finally got myself mostly down under 50 carbs a day (6/7 of the last days under 51) and am starting to feel the “keto flu”. I have had a lot of dreaming at night, which is unusual.. headaches the last few days and today general body aches. no fever or cough etc. anyone else experienced this with cutting carbs?? how long did this last?? did the keto actually help loose more weight ? thank you for sharing!

53 lbs in three months is on the high end of someone at your starting weight. hair loss is very common. It's temporary - usually lasts about three or four months, then grows back. Just keep on top of your supplements and protein to keep it from getting worse than it would otherwise.

little victory for me. made it to the gym to do 15 mins of strength training with dumbbells. going to try to go at least 2-3 times a week, hopefully increasing time and intensity. anyone have tips, tricks or routines for basic strength training?
-
Well done, that equates to nearly 18lb a month which is pretty good, not slow at all, probably a high rate for that starting weight. Hair loss is quite common after weight loss surgery, you can read about it below. As long as you are reaching your nutritonal requirements it should be fine within three to six months (may be longer though). Some people use supplements for special shampoos/condiitoners. https://mercybariatrics.com.au/hair-loss-bariatric-surgery/#:~:text=The most common type of,percentage of hairs falling out.

Hello So on the 23 of this month it will be 3 months post surgery , so far I went from 260 lbs to 207 lbs , so 53 lbs are off , I don't know if that's okay but I guess some people lose weight quickly and others slowly , maybe it also has to do with my bad habits of eating ice cream ( twice a week ) and some carbs such as bread and pasta . What I've noticed since my second month post op is the hair loss especially when I wash my hair or comb it , I lose a huge amount , although I have thick hair it's starting to get thinner should I be worried about it ?

It sound very much like Dumping Syndrome. It may be the oiliness, the bread, the amount of food or the eggs. All are symptomatic. Eggs, chicken, fats, sugar and bread are particularly difficult for lots of bariatric patients Even now I can not eat bread unless it is toasted so crispy that it snaps. Its all about trial and error, you are early out and I dont know what regime you have been given but at 5 weeks out I was still on soft foods. Even now I can only eat one egg for a meal. Until your new tummy heals, you wont have any feelings of fullness. At your stage my nose would run or I would sneeze and that was my cue to stop eating. Its all a learning curve and its not easy.

My 3 babies and my little "niece". Took on a babysitting job this past weekend. She is super tiny compared to my 3 biggies. Sitting on command for treat-os!
Pre-op Liquid - Day 2
It was very hard today...I'm feeling some type of way from not eating the meals I was supposed to before the pre-op diet. My sister got stuck in Dallas a week before my diet and we were supposed to go on a nice dinner, but that never happened. I have super bad dry mouth and bathroom breaks are more frequent.

So I was discharged less than 24 hours after the surgery (I'm in Dominican Republic), was walking and going to the bathroom by myself just after 2 hours (I think, is a little fuzzy) post op. The barium test was the worst (But my surgeon said my procedure was test book perfect!!!), I started vomiting right after the test and after that it was on and of on Saturday and Sunday, I think I was getting used to the smaller sips. Something that help was having little ice cubes filled with Gatorade (wich I hated before surgery now the mere sight of it makes me gag) and Electrolyte, those are life savers. The food for this stage are bahhh, the high of my week was today that I got to make my own vegetable and chicken consomme, have my 2.5 ounces really slowly, tasting the chicken. Sleeping has been tricky, but I must admit that last night I didn't need pain meds to sleep, I was restless, but it has to do with the fact that I'm not sleeping in my bed or in my apartment ( I moved during the pandemia to another city for work and now I don't recognize my old bed as my own anymore). My sister and my nephew are taking care of me, support that I don't have in the city I work. Tomorrow is my 5 days post-op follow up, gonna ask my surgeon if I can go home on Saturday, I just have to be mindful of the schedule for eating and drinking water (and not rely so much on my sister and nephew for that). My wounds are healing really good the one in the belly bottom fell by it self today and it doesn't hurt. The bigger insicion (where they took the stomach) and the fartest one on the left are the one with some discomfort today. Walking is a must, today I feel great compare with other days, because I've been really active, coming up and down the stairs of the house, cooking for my self and my nephew, playing lightly with the dog, doing some light house shore to help my sis a little bit. No being in bed the whole day ( like sunday and monday). Sorry if you see any grammar mistakes, english is not my first language and in Dominican Republic we don't have forums or social groups for Bariatrics patients. I also start my pre-op diet on the 5th but my 2 weeks are split. The 1st week I can have 1 meal (high protein, low carb ) per day but the second week is only liquids. I also have to keep my calories under 800 per day - yuck. You sound very much like my twin. I have 4 different kinds of premier shakes,5 yummy sounding keto shakes, several different types of broth and canned soups that I can strain, pudding, jello and I'll buy yogurt when it gets closer. I also have a clever fox journal that has spots for pictures and measurements to keep me motivated. I'm as prepared as much as I think I can be. Thinking and preparing keeps me busy and makes the time pass faster. I get more and more nervous the closer it gets, but excited too. Can't wait to have a new me -
4 years post VSG and still not hungry
Saxons replied to Saxons's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
The dry retching seems to have started straight after the surgery. I can go a week and not suffer it, then I'll have it a few times a day, every day for another week or so. I worried I had a stricture, but my post endoscopies are normal. And I am the same... sometimes just looking at food crushes my appetite, and I just can't and don't want to eat anything. On those occasions, I try a couple of small spoons of yoghurt, but not milk .. that does make me throw up! It could be psychological I guess, but I have no idea why. -
4 years post VSG and still not hungry
Saxons replied to Saxons's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I know right? I thought it only happened to gastric bypass patients. My surgeon has explained that, although I still have a stomach (albeit a tiny one), I can still have rapid stomach motility. And the suspects are high level sugars (explains the muffin), and high protein without carbohydrates added. And not chewing my food thoroughly, so my stomach doesn't dump a whole chunk of protein at once. I try to follow all the directions, but after 4 years, you slip up now and then! I had blood tests done 2 weeks ago and they were perfect. Its just that the dumping, combined with the dry retching is miserable. I wish I had known... -
Thank you so much for that information! How do you figure out plan exclusions? I work for a large bank and in their little healthcare “breakdown” it shows Bariatric surgery is covered (in-network with “distinguished centers”) covering 80% after co pay/out of pocket max. With that I am assuming that because the “brochure” states it’s covered that means that all three options my job provides for medical insurance will cover it. My job only lists very minimum criteria (must have BMI over 35, dietician, Psych, etc.) nothing specific, no exclusions listed. I would love to figure all of this stuff out BEFORE I pick an insurance company/plan, but when I call my jobs HR they tell me I have to contact the specific insurance company and tell them the plan & when I call the insurance companies they state the need a “group number” from my job and cannot give me any information until they have it. I can’t even look for specialists/surgeons because no one will even tell me who’s in network. It all just seems crazy to me that no one can tell me ANYTHING.. I feel lost and stumped as to where to look next… do I wait for open enrollment and HOPE that there may be an HR rep that can give me more info or do I have to blindly pick an insurance to go with and hope that their criteria/exclusions aren’t too crazy? Or would it be the same criteria/exclusions across the board because that’s what my job puts into place? I probably sound crazy but I just don’t seem to understand the whole process. It seems like my job, the insurance company AND my specialist/surgeon will all have their own criteria to go by… I just wish I could get all that information (or atleast some of it) before hand… thank you for listening and anymore insight would be much appreciated! Congrats with almost being done with your pre op journey!! That must be so exciting!!!! Are you getting the sleeve or bypass? I’ll be doing the bypass because I have GERD. I’m terrified of the endoscopy ( I hateeee needles) the best of luck on your continued journey!!!

My health insurance plan does not cover bariatrics (united health) but my husband put me on his plan which started covering bariatrics this year (anthem/bcbs state health benefit plan -Georgia school employee insurance) I have had to get: a sleep study 3 months consecutive weight loss program/advisement by dr Psychological exam (virtual) cardiac exam/clearance nutritionist consult (virtual) endoscopy weekly inhealth coach visits (virtual) 1 year history from primary dr letter of recommendation from primary dr I am mostly done with the requirements.. so far I am lacking one consecutive dr visit (aug 29th), doing cardiac testing tomorrow and endoscopy sept 6th. Don’t have surgery date yet, but end of September or first week in October likely. remember, bariatric coverage is not insurer specific but plan specific. Your plan has to have coverage and no exclusion. Most plans have exclusions in my experience. More are covering it, but they are usually very large employer plans with good overall coverage (expensive coverage ) it’s getting closer and real!

I am also 1 week post-op today and feel the same way. I'm overwhelmed, exhausted, in pain, timers are constantly going off...it's getting so hard to keep track of stuff even with apps. Just thinking about going back to work next week has me in a panic. BUT, I know it will get easier and easier and the pounds are coming off so no real regrets now. I just wish I was someone who bounced back a bit quicker.

I'm on week 3 post-op. I definitely have those thoughts about buyer's remorse. Do I regret it? I don't. But I can see how many do. This has been such a mental struggle for me. I'm having a really hard time eating anything, especially cheese. I'm getting to the point I'm almost scared to eat anything that isn't a liquid.

Much happiness and good thoughts to everyone who is having surgery this week! I'm officially 1 week post-op RNY (with hernia repair)! Here is what I've learned this week from my surgeon, my partner (who is a nurse) and myself: 1) If you are in pain, take your meds. There is no shame in taking pain meds for a major surgery. Everyone's pain tolerance is different and I have been in a fair to high amount of pain since surgery. I'm not sure if it's the RNY plus the hernia repair that is causing this level of pain, but I took whatever pain meds the nurses gave during my hospital stay (there was a combination) and then every 6 hours after I was discharged for the first 3 days and now I'm only taking them when I feel pain, but I still feel pain, so I'm still taking them. 2) Rest. I'm a person who is always on the go and it's been difficult for me to just REST. It's driving my partner (the nurse) crazy. He keeps reminding me "It's only been ____ days! You just had two major surgeries! Rest please!! Sit down! Take a nap!" Don't feel guilty about resting your first week (or weeks) home. 2) PLAN PLAN PLAN. Once I was on full liquids I was shocked at how low the protein value is per BARIATRIC SERVING and quickly realized if I didn't plan what I was going to eat and when I was going to eat it, this will get out of control really fast. Yes, a container of protein greek yogurt has 20 grams of protein in it (a 5.3 oz container), but if you are only eating 2 oz servings at a time, you have cut your protein down to 7.5 g per serving. I've added Isopure to almost everything I eat and I do 5g Isopure per 2 oz food which adds another 4g protein. 3) It's extremely difficult to get your 64 oz of water in. Pre-surgery I was like "that will be easy." Nope. Not at all. First, your new pouch will only hold a sip or two at a time. Too much and it will hurt. And once you are eating full liquids or purees, you have to stop drinking 30 min before, 30 minutes after (and another 10/15/20 to actually eat your food) and if you are eating 3-5x a day...this becomes a full time job. I know it will get easier, but it has been overwhelming right now.

I’m not going to lie, I’m slightly jealous of those of you already returning to work/feeling great postop! I’m officially 1 week post op and I feel like I’m never going to be the same 😩 I have a constant feeling of something being “stuck” in my chest/throat and it’s driving me crazy! I’m also struggling to get in the recommended amount of protein each day, shakes are disgusting to me now, and I feel awful after finishing one.. I also am having a reallly difficult time getting in all of my meds, taking Horse Pills with a SIP of water is making the “stuck” feeling even worse. I honestly thought that I was so ready for this and it was all going to be a breeze, but I wasn’t even close to prepared… I don’t regret it, yet, but boy am I close.

Bariatric friendly pain relievers
I♡BypassedMyPhatAss♡ replied to fourmonthspreop's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Not sure if you can use these with your job or not, but I use CBD oil and topical CBD products, lidocaine cream and tylenol. I really haven't had to use anything like this since my revision, except last week, I got blinded by the sun and missed a step and banged my knee on the concrete walkway, and I was three weeks post op revision at that point and started back at the gym the day before so I was a bit sore, then the fall on top of all of that... the CBD oil took the edge off of the pain. It's supposed to be really good for muscle recovery anyway. Maybe try one of those donut pillows that you sit on? I hope you feel better soon! -
Oh wow! That’s great. To be honest I used to have BCBS when I was pregnant and they royally messed up my claims so I am very hesitant of getting them again but I do wish for a smooth process! How did you know what their criteria was? Was it through your job that you had to figure that out or did you call BCBS and just let them know your plan name?? I’m trying to get a criteria and no one can give me specifics - they said they have to wait until I select the policy… but I have three insurance company options, I want to know BEFORE I choose, you know? Thank you for the information. This whole process is crazy haha
