What has boggled my mind the most through this experience is how there's literally no consistency for anything, from pre-op diets (I didn't have to do liquid) to when to eat after and what diet to follow your whole life. It's mind blowing. Any other major surgery in the world has a pretty commonality across the boards and doctors. For me, once through all food stages, I have no intention of eating sugar/fat free or keto or anything like that. I will eat wholesome, nutrient rich foods that nourish my body. My surgeon is totally on board with this and says it's life long and sustainable. I may not lose 90 pounds in three months but I will have lifelong habits to lose and maintain a healthy weight. Dr. V. swears that most people lose their hair and feel like garbage because they're depriving themselves of nutrients. If you have time watch this, it really makes sense. 2. Never mind...I found a similar post.....I just started IF combined with keto. I’m concerned about my metabolism. I’m doing 18:6 eating 2 meals no snacks. Eating protein first then veggies fills me up quickly. So I’m sure my calories are extremely low. Any advice? Or don’t worry? never mind

Yes, it will be on the site--if I can ever figure out how to configure it. LOL! I'm working on it. So you can use any size waffle maker. You just center the chaffle in the middle of your machine. You can get them used at GoodWill or Thrift Stores for about $10. You can order this from Amazon for $9.99 https://amzn.to/2GVCDU7 The batter/dough is very thick and sticky. They need to be pressed out and thinned to crisp up. So I don't think they would work as pancakes. But here is a recipe for my silver dollar pancakes that works well. Here's the biscuit mix recipe that you make ahead and store: https://fluffychixcook.com/mile-high-keto-biscuit-mix-low-carb/ Then here's the pancake recipe: https://fluffychixcook.com/mile-high-silver-dollar-pancakes-low-carb-gluten-free-options/ And here's another one: https://fluffychixcook.com/psylli-pumpkin-spice-pancakes-low-carb-induction-inspired-gluten-free/
  4. are those your maintenance calories? with fasting, you don't worry about calorie deficits on fast days. You make up for them by having feast days. With fasting, your insulin is super low so fat stores can be accessed. So there is very little "deficit" to be had unless you have no or very low fat stores...as long as your insulin is low enough that your body can access them. And typically that's harder for people who each carbs, than for those who are already following a low carb or keto style diet.

I week out from RNY. Two weeks of Liquid diet and Keto found my ankles but one week after surgery gave me an even bigger blessing!!! I haven been able to wear this comfortably in about two years. Now I’m scared to wear the dern thing because I’m so used to the silicone bands I’m afraid I’ll ruin it! At least it fits!!!

    Daily Menus for Maintenance

Yesterday Sunday, Feb 2 Maintenance : 5'2" / 1.25 yr PO Sleeve / 117.6 lbs ---------------------------------------- Yep, I knew it. I got over 117 again. Too much sugar and salt and all-day eating, I guess. Plus week-long lack of sleep. Plus pure laziness on the exercise front. Plus my stinkin' period is due to make an appearance soon. #someoneIsCranky At least I got to go to brunch with BFF and our KIds and enjoy a couple Mimosas (which I haven't had in over a year). I want to make an effort to get back on track and exercising again...I just feel so UNHEALTHY and BLAH these past several days... ---------------------------------------- 8:00am - 1 skinny tea latte 12:00pm - 2 mimosas + 2 black coffees + 1/4 of a Spicy Eggs Benny (there were two, and I had 1/4 of one...the Kid ate the rest: chorizo patty + sweet potato "toast" + avocado + poached egg + sriracha hollandaise) + 1/4 cup spring mix salad w/ balsamic vinaigrette 2:00pm - salad w/ vinaigrette + carrots + cucumber + 1/2 fl oz pumpkin seeds 4:00pm - 4 tbsp garlic & herb cream cheese + 1 bite of a Keto bagel 7:30pm - 4 shrimp wonton soup sans noodles + 1/2 cup stewed beef brisket + 1/2 cup Chinese broccoli + 1/2 cup nacho toppings (ground beef + red onion + jalapenos + avocado + cheddar cheese + sour cream + salsa) 9:30pm - 1/4 cup almonds + 2 gin & sodas ---------------------------------------- Totals: 2271 cals - 102g Protein 139g NET carbs - 113g fat
  8. Another PSA: Dream Bagel KETO Everything Bagels (1 NET carb per bagel) are a solid thumbs down. Came back from a bakery where I bought 6 Montreal style bagels straight off the conveyor belt along with a tub of gourmet garlic & herb cream cheese for the fam. They smelled so good while they were eating it, that I finally busted out the Keto bagels in the freezer that Mr. bought for me a while back. I was all excited cuz these Keto bagels smelled really good too out of the toaster oven...slathered some of cream cheese, took one bite and... Keto Bagel Fail. These were not enjoyable at all. The density & texture was all wrong and other than the "everything" flavouring sprinkled on top it was very bland. I ended up scraping the cream cheese off and just eating that, which btw was DELICIOUS (though for $8.50 for about 1 cup, it better be!!!) Edited to add: so not to waste the Keto bagels, I'm going to toast em up, make breadcrumbs out of them and use them for breading or burger filler...Le Sigh. This is what happens when I stray from salads....lol
  9. I started keto at the beginning of January. It has not been too brutal. I have surgery on Wednesday. I have the same mindset as TatooedSeaStar about getting used to no more carbs, and being at peace with it. I have had 3 cheats all month. I am a little worried about the liquid diet post op. I got my eye on the prize, though.
  10. I did that along the way. My therapist recommended doing one a week so it’s more like a cheat meal than a freak out. Than I could enjoy the meal and not feel guilt. I get really sick on Keto (which is what my preop liquid diet was) so I decided to start Jan 2 eating keto food so that I can get over the keto flu before going back to work. On Jan 13 I started liquid and it went really well. My surgery was Jan 27, so I’m a week out tomorrow. My doctor said my liver looked really good, but I had been doing keto for almost a month (he has us do keto to shrink our liver). I say all that to say this- BE CAREFUL. Going crazy over food will make you feel deprived when you start liquid. Say goodbye and make peace with it but don’t binge.
  11. I made myself some eggs and sausage for dinner tonight. 😋 Out of impulse, I grabbed the sriracha sauce out of the fridge and poured some over my meal. Looked at the bottle to check the nutrition and saw that it was loaded with carbs (which I am trying to avoid while doing the keto diet) and was pretty sad about it. Does anyone here love sriracha? Have you found a low-carb alternative? If so, do you have a recommendation (bonus points if I can get it over in the EU)?

    Daily Menus for Maintenance

This thread is awesome. I am always amazed at the differences in number of calories and the types of foods that others eat and are able to maintain. I tried to introduce a higher carb level and eat mostly plant based about 7 months post op. After eating this way for about 3-4 months I felt my blood sugar levels were not as good so I decided to go back to what has always worked for me low carb, higher fat, and moderate protein levels. I stay away from processed foods and sugar as much as possible. I have learned that I need to track and weigh daily if I want to stay within my bounce range. I got down to 150 about 8-9 months post-op but I am currently at 161 working my way back down. My goal for this year is to hit 150 and maintain it with a 5 pound bounce. When you post your calories for the day do you subtract exercise? My tracker app links with my Apple watch and subtracts calories burned from my total. Yesterdays menu: 7 am- Coffee with half-half and splenda 10 am- Coffee with half-half and splenda 1 pm- Power Crunch protein bar 6 pm- Keto alfredo chicken bake, riced cauliflower 7 pm- Coffee with half-half and splenda Calories: 930 , Net Carbs: 17g, Protein: 42g, Fat: 58g I was low on protein but I wasn't hungry and couldn't get anything else in. I prefer to get at least 60g per day.

    Food Before and After Photos

Been doing the keto diet to lose the required weight pre-op. I tried to figure out how to get all my protein in without going over my carb limit and eating too much fat. This was seasoned chicken, shirataki noodles, eggs, and brussel sprouts. Unfortunately, I couldn't finish the plate (thus not meeting my protein goal). :( Though, I am really not sure why I thought I could! That was a lot of food for one sitting!

You don't have to be keto girlfriend! Nor that restrictive. Just maybe think about for now filling your tum with super FILLING high fiber stuff that isn't calorically dense nor sweet/a bunch of high glycemic carbs that break down to sugar. (i.e. More salads - lots of them! Instead of oatmeal, do a chocolate chia and hemp heart warm pudding with some blueberries (frozen) on them, only 1/2ounce and a dollop of vanilla Greek yogurt, plain sweetened with a drop or two of stevia.) Those sorts of swaps. Right? Instead of popcorn, do pork rinds and a yogurt Ranch dip or yogurt onion dip...that sort of thign.

Worried I’m making a wrong choice

Thanks ladies ! It’s nice to find support! I’m 37 and just had a hysterectomy last year due to other health problems and everyone was ok with that! I continue to stress to both of them that I’m “SICK OF BEING SICK” lol .. but it’s true!!! I’ve made my mind up and I’m doing this! But it hard when my the person pushing me back the most is my spouse ( my mother is just bugging me about keto) but my spouse tends to bring up everything that could go wrong. It sucks to say the least.
  17. Hi! I am a type two diabetic and also have Intracranial hypertension, I’m 5”3 and 200 pounds currently( 255 at my highest) , I’m just at a BMI of 34.5 .. I qualify under these guidelines for sleeve surgery , and I’ve decided it’s what’s best for me. HERE IS THE PROBLEM, as soon as I told my spouse and mother they got upset.. they told me I’m “not big enough” or that I could just “lose it on my own, if I just work out .. do keto” .. it’s hard to hear and making me worry I’m making a wrong choice. Because I’ve lost 60 pounds on my own way back in 2014 they seem to think I can do it again.. it’s 2020.. I’ve been stuck at this weight 6 years! I’m sick of taking so much medication , and I need help.. but there is very little support.. so know I’m doubting myself.. I’m alright in the pre op process HELP!
  18. It was like pulling teeth to get my OB/GYN to prescribe me Metformin, as she said it wasn't meant for use outside of fertility and because of my weight, she couldn't give me the treatment. However, I found a ton of medical studies, kept pestering her, and she ended up caving. She gave me a 3 month supply of Metformin (which runs out next month, so we will have to discuss getting more soon.. Hopefully it won't be so hard for me this time). I assume the Metformin is the reason for such rapid weight loss (besides going on a mostly-keto diet since starting it). However, not too much else has changed -- I haven't even had a period in over 130+ days at this point. Thank you for the recommendations!! I was dancing for 30 mins a day to get my exercise in, but that has stopped since I came back from the states. I need to get back on it. It was a lot of fun and definitely got me to work up a sweat.

Thank you so much for the encouragement. Makes me feel much better to hear that this stall isn’t unusual. I bought keto sticks and I’m actually in moderate Ketosis with no weight loss this week so that really bothered me. I’ll just keep doing what I’m doing and know that it has to go down eventually. Congratulations, again!!

I haven't told anyone about my surgery

I told my friends, family and Co workers. But didn’t announce it on social media. If someone asks me I tell them but I am almost 3 years or so weight has stabilized and I’m going to lose anymore I have to start a work our routine or do a few weeks of keto. So now when people ask if I’ve lost some weight I tell them what I’m currently doing. There is nothing wrong with keeping it to yourself. Your medical history doesn’t have to be anyone else’s business, just like you wouldn’t have to share with anyone else if you took a pregnancy test. Keep up the great work and remember you did this surgery for yourself not to make anyone else feel differently toward you.

    Weight loss slow down

Okay well I'm confused how you can't be losing anything? I personally have about double that amount of protein though and less carbs; like keto without the fat...

I eat them occasionally when I'm having one of those days when I'm feeling like an eating machine (that, or a bowl of bran), but I'm in maintenance and I don't have them very often. I didn't have them while losing weight since they're pretty calorie dense. I know that some Keto people eat them - but i don't know their circumstances. I would imagine they'd have to factor them into their overall calories or they'd start gaining weight.
  25. I’ve had a few ask me but I just tell them I did keto/low carb, which is basically the truth. I didn’t tell anyone but family.
