  1. Hey everyone! I am new to this forum. I am scheduled for bypass on 7/14. I have my pre-op appt on 6/30, that’s when I’ll be starting my surgeons pre-op diet. My surgeon doesn’t require all liquids for the pre-op. Thank you sweet baby Jesus. I hope everyone has a great surgery and quick recovery!

    Bile Reflux post MGB

what ever happened to the Bile issue you guys/gals we're having.... I'm 3 weeks out - was revised - had surgery 5/27 and then again on 6/8 for an obstruction they said due to scar tissue - I'm awaiting a call back again for another CT scan, as I started vomitted bile again this morning... surgeon sending me for a CT scan ASAP. I hope its nothing and I have to be opened up again.. I'm going to lose it - I did this for GERD and here I am now with BILE! LOL

You're so touchy!!! You come across as sooooo rude and a know it all... We are all in this together! This your first surgery - bypass - or were you revised - she was revised and has different mind set maybe and her surgeon or nutritionist might have different ways of doing bariatric diets - not all are the same - I'm a revision and on my 3rd week - I'm up to oatmeal and farina and pureed - even though I had a hold up last week - they told me to pick up where I left off - You are also in Aussie and I believe their medical practices are probably different from where she is from - you can't come across as rude, well you can - but maybe take a step back before you post - we are all very sensitive, trying to do the right thing - learning as well as we can... Okay -I'm off my soap box now

Tracy, try to get as many of your vitamins in liquid form if you can. I’m not sure but I think there are some you can take that way. I know it’s been years since I had my surgery but in regards to them putting you on puréed foods so soon is very strange to me...I guess conversions are very different from straight sleeves or bypasses. Just do what your doc says and don’t worry about what everyone else is saying. I’ll bet later down the road, you’ll tolerate cereal better...just not now. Did you ever watch the Mini me in Tennessee YouTube videos I told you about? When you have time, watch them...I promise it will help, she shares her food ideas and struggles, etc, and she’s very insightful. Start from the beginning of her journey...she’s now three years out and takes you all the way through. You’re going to feel much better soon...you just need to get past the first few months. The bypass is very different than the sleeve. I had the bypass and my friend had the sleeve and I was WAY more restricted because of dumping and fact we don’t absorb nutrients as much , plus the pouch Is smaller. Take care.

Well I tried cereal again because I thought 8 grams of sugar wasn't too much. I was wrong, lol. I did read up on it after the episode was over. The combination of carbs and sugar is why I dumped. I would have felt better if I had vomited, but just water and dry heave. Now my right side is flaring again from the dry heave, lol. I guess I will just have to make myself an egg every morning. I would just drink a shake but then I cant take any vitamins. I take about 10 a day and I have to take them when I eat food or I get sick. May 22nd was my revision date. I am eating normal food with 1 shake a day to hit my protein, as soon as I can eat more I will drop the shake. I had a cowboy chicken patty for dinner and some cottage cheese. I ate 2.5 oz of the patty and 1/4 of cottage cheese. I ate it in 2 settings because I started to feel some restriction. I have noticed if I eat too fast the restriction hits minutes later and I don't want to put a lot of pressure on my pouch. I have to retrain myself to eat slowly and chew chew chew. I didn't really have to do that with the sleeve. Also, I had shrimp and steak stir fry for lunch and a few cubes of pineapple for a snack. Pretty normal food for me. I rarely eat out and I don't do fried food.

I had gastric bypass surgery on Wednesday, June 10th. The gas pain was horrible right after the surgery. I could barely get enough liquid down for them to discharge me. The day after was better and now 4 days post, I am good. I can only get down 60 gms of protein and 48oz of water. I have no pain at all. Wishing you all luck on your upcoming surgeries!

What did you have for breakfast that made you sick? I’m curious. What was your revision date?
  10. How’s everyone feeling today? We’ve got some newly post ops and a couple about to go. @Groovymommy I’m getting excited for you! Today is decidedly better for me. Less soreness. Less queasy. I had some fat free Greek yogurt with a little unsweetened applesauce ( about 3 tablespoons) and my protein broth. My family is currently eating burgers with all the fixings including guacamole and fried eggs, seasoned curly fries and chocolate cake. So I am hiding out in the bedroom. I am determined to not let my choice to do this surgery make them feel guilty for indulging. Those fries smell amazing. But frankly I’m just relieved I think so cuz that is the opposite of nausea. Check in Bypassers! ONWARD!

    Hate bypass

If you are asking me I have lost 9 lbs so far which is really good for me considering I weigh 171.2 . I never got under 164.8 so I would like to see if I can get to 155 but I am not going to kill myself to do it. I have a large frame and am weighing around my high school weight and I am okay with how I look. I am eating around 700 to 800 . You are doing great to average 10 lbs a month on a revision. How much weight are you wanting to lose?

    Hate bypass

I thought bypass would be more restrictive. It’s less space for food to fit in. Could someone explain? I have to have bypass due to reflux already

My bypass is tomorrow!!! Glad to hear so many people doing so well after surgery! I'm praying for the same!!
  14. Who did your original Mini Gastric Bypass?
  15. I understand this is a personal decision, but I will be honest with you, sometimes I think I should have gotten the mini gastric bypass. I wish my stomach was smaller than this so I would have more restriction. I can easily eat 1 cup or more of food every hour. I still battle head hunger all the time and if I make the wrong food choices and eat every hour, I will not only not lose weight but gain weight too. The battle in my head is very hard on me, hence why I feel if I had more restriction (where I had no room to eat) and malabsorption the the mini gastric bypass (a lot less than you have with regular gastric bypass) it would make battling my head hunger better because physically I would have no room to overeat or eat all through the day. Some people get dumping syndrome with gastric sleeve, I am considered lucky not to get it. But I now wish I got it so it would prevent me from indulging my sweet tooth all the time. Anyway, I hope my story will help so you can chose what's best for you. Btw, I can easily eat 2 cups of food in one sitting with no problems what's so ever. I measure and weigh everything because I am terrified of overeating and enlarging my pouch. The the entire staff at OCC was fluent in English, very nice, professional and helpful. The center itself was very nice. If OCC is still your favorite and first choice and you really want a larger bougie used, call and set up a Skype consult with Dr. Ortiz and ask him if he can use a larger bougie for you and discuss your concerns. Before choosing OCC I scheduled a skype consult with Dr. Ortiz myself too. In my opinion it's very important you see and talk to the surgeon yourself, trust and like him/her. Let me know if you have any other questions. I wish you the best on your upcoming weight loss surgery and journey.

I must say though, I’ve been eating like a bypass patient so the last six weeks to get ready and to help with my reflux situation. It’s a huge life change for sure.

I changed surgeons (possibly). I had a first opinion, decided to go with my second opinion, then decided to go back to my first opinion on the advice of my gastroenterologist. I’m waiting for my insurance referral, then I have a few questions to ask him. I want to make sure he either shortens or lengthens (not sure which) the RNY so I don’t have the issues I hadwith the first bypass. All I wanted was the Nissen Fundoplication for my reflux but because I have a 10mm hiatel hernia and a mass I have to have the bypass and stomach removal to fix all issues. I told doc if they can’t do it in July, then we have to wait until end of September or October because my son is getting married in September and I don’t want to be in pain or sick, or in case there are complications, I don’t want to ruin his wedding.

    Anyone for August 2020

So my facility really only does the sleeve or bypass. I choose the sleeve because I didn't care for the idea of moving things around as well as the malabsorption that comes with it. My surgeon also told me that if needed you can go from the sleeve to bypass but you can't go from bypass backwards... everyone has their own though process tho. 20. Hey guys! Just wondering if anyone out there has had sleeve to RNY covered by GEHA insurance. I’m having severe GERD and have a hiatal hernia. I’ve looked up the insurance policy but it’s all pretty vague. I’m working with a provider who is recommending a revision. Let me know! Thanks.

I'm underweight but can't eat much

@Bastian I hope that things get better for you. That they figure out what is wrong. my life has been endless battles. But we do what we can to get by and sometimes it’s still worth the price we paid. I paid hefty price physically to battle with my weight but I wouldn’t change it. I hope this leaves you no regrets where the path takes you. I find it hard when answers aren’t clear or even there. I didn’t get them myself. I wanted to answer though I’m a tad exhausted. I will say, Not all whey protein is the same, you can have allergic reaction to some not others. Depending how pure they are. The quality I’d say. I had the best results with PEScience select protein powder, although they do make a vegan select. Have you tried mixing protein powder in yogurt, like Ripple brand yogurt that’s non dairy. I don’t do well with dairy but have a little Greek yogurt since it’s protein rich. To get dense protein BariatricPal has excellent protein shots. It very well could be vitamin deficiency and more an overall ill feeling you need higher absorption nutrition until they figure out if it’s mechanical. I highly recommend taking Whole Foods based multivitamin in gummy or liquid form. Because your body utilizes it better than traditional vitamins. most vitamins shoot right through your system especially after bypass. And you went through a lot with yours. I kind of wish they had taken my remnant stomach. I wonder if I feel pain from it but they didn’t see ulcers there. sorry I go off on tangents. I had my gallbladder removed also. I take chewable digestive enzymes that helps. I also read bike salts are beneficial. all the best to you in getting the care you need
  22. no gallbladder, had it out years ago. The surgeon thinks it's something mechanical, but my surgery wasn't straight fwd (sleeve to bypass in 2 weeks), so not surprising it's a mechanical issue (if it is). Gosh you've been through the wars too, bless you!

    JUNE 2020 BYPASSERS

Hi all. By passers will be able to get liquids down pretty easily. Much easier than sleeve patients as bypassers no longer have their pyloric ( sp?) valve intact. Sleevers do. so don’t worry about liquids sliding down easily if you are a bypass patient.
  24. If you can stand it three more years, Medicare will cover it. I had a similar situation like yours...when they did my revision they found the band had slipped and caused a large hiatal hernia. I went with a bypass rather than a sleeve since I had a history of GERD before getting my lap band. The Medicare and my supplement paid for everything but the psych consult and the dietician visits. You might find an obesity advocate law firm to challenge the age restriction on your policy. It sounds illegal! Good luck--I hope you can find a solution to your dilemma!
