Struggling with head games
Darktowerdream replied to Starflower's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@Starflower i am the same. I fought my carb and sugar addiction for so long and even that didn’t prove enough until I had gastric bypass surgery. So I am terrified of falling backwards. I was in hospital for surgery and they kept wanting to serve me carbs laden foods! I had a small bowl of oatmeal when I had no choice and it was the only soft food I could stomach. But for me I feel carbs fuel my metabolic disorders and the addiction as well. You need to listen to yourself. Nutrition doesn’t need to come from traditional carbs. ive allowed myself a little low carb granola on my yogurt, a manzano banana, sometimes a pear. There’s ways to get nutrition and not lose more weight without adding carbs. I can’t add much you got great answers but I do understand how you feel. -
Yeah it's only 3 days most of us did weeks of liquid preop plus you'll need to be on liquids post OP... you're really going to struggle if you can't go without chocolate just a few days let alone the following months... sugar post OP will most likely cause irritation and obviously won't help you lose the most weight... I personally was on liquids for months once I found a shake I loved with all the protein and nutrients I needed I was satisfied... but I did have BYPASS and didn't crave anything for months...

GALS who started their journey over 300 lb+<br /> +
Sara with an H replied to Frustr8's topic in The Gals' Room
Sorry it took me so long to reply, I forgot I had actually posted something instead of just lurking like I normally do 😅 I try to stay under 1000 cal. a day, some days I manage, some days I don't. I'm gonna be honest, I dont exercise routinely yet, just normal, routine activities that have gotten easier like mowing the yard and gardening. Head hunger is a real problem for me and some days I snack more than i should, but i still keep steadily losing about 3 lbs a week. I suppose I've just been really lucky that the bypass seems to be working well for me -

Lap Band Revision - Sleeve or Bypass?
Loriey replied to Loriey's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I'm sure some of our experienced patients can offer some insight on this. I feel that bypass is the way to go for me, because i have issues with GERD. We just need to really follow all the rules and make an effort to eat consciously. This will ensure the final surgery is successful in the long run. -
Lap Band Revision - Sleeve or Bypass?
JRT Mom replied to Loriey's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Loriey, you will hear people say weight loss is difficult after revision surgery. I didn't find that true AT ALL. I started at 240 and only got down to 160 with the band. Then after I had trouble with it I got back up to 200. Seven months ago I got my revision and I am now down to 140. I found it much easier to eat small meals with the bypass than with the band. With the band, if the first bite didn't land just right in the pouch I'd feel nauseous and NEVER had that "ahhhh...I'm perfectly full" feeling. With the bypass there is NEVER that sickly lap band full feeling. It's just a nice "That's just right" feeling of fullness. -
Lap Band Revision - Sleeve or Bypass?
Loriey replied to Loriey's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I lost 60 lbs with the lap band, have slowly regained approximately 20 - 25 lbs. I am 5'4", I went from 225 lbs down to 165 and I felt fantastic and very happy at that weight. With the regain I am now around 190. I am hoping gastric bypass will get me back down to 165-160. What is your weight loss after revision? -
Lap Band Revision - Sleeve or Bypass?
Loriey replied to Loriey's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Hi INEEDABUDDY, did you have gastric bypass after removing the lap band? I can't live without some form of resistance. I need to have bypass after my band removal. -
Lap Band Revision - Sleeve or Bypass?
Loriey replied to Loriey's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Hi JRT Mom, I feel the same way. I so regret going this route and now having to go through two surgeries instead of one. But it is what is and I can't change that. Just move forward and hope the bypass will fix everything. Thanks for the reply. -
I don't have the sleeve. I had a gastric bypass that had to be reversed so I have normal anatomy now and terrible acid reflux
-
Morning! What do you think? (Back story - sleeve 2015, revised to RNY due to GERD and two hernias. Revised 5/27/20, was fine and had a complication. “twisting” and had reflux.... vomiting bile and bowel 🤮 on 6/6. Opened up again 6/8. Lasted 2 days home from hospital and had to be revised 6/17. Moved first revision to mid intestines, surgeon claims. One scare Sunday night. Thinking I had a bad protein shake and vomitted but wasn’t the same Bile reflux.) My abdominal wall is on constant fire. I know it’ll get better. Being opened up 3x in 3-4 weeks isn’t fun! Same incisions too plus a few more. I cannot or don’t want too drink or eat. No desire... I know I have too. Horrible taste in my mouth. D Gross. Shakes are like death this time around. I used to love many different kinds. No way now. Popsicle ice pops repeat on me. Dye related maybe? What to do!? I have to get something in. Water has been an issue for me for years with the sleeve. Now I dont wanna touch it. Gatorade tastes 🤮 Hope everyone is well!!! 🙂

Nervous about post-op energy levels...
Tonip1127 replied to vgal's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had gastric bypass on June 12 and I definitely have real hunger pains (meaning, not in my head). I'm at the pureed stage and it is hell. I worry I'm not getting in enough protein, but I really cannot choke down another shake ugh. I experience fatigue everyday. I guess I don't really have any techniques to combat the hunger and fatigue yet, just wanted to share a different experience since I see most replies here didn't have hunger. -
I am being revised Band to Bypass and have been dreading the pre-op diet. I was 3 days out when all elective surgeries got cancelled due to Covid. I had followed the diet well and was rescheduled. Date of the reschedule was coming up, was on the shakes and doing ok, only slipped once... again 3-4 days out was re-reschudled due to Covid. I am due to go in tomorrow. I really struggled this time, Firstly I missed the start day for the shakes (I work in government and between drought, fires and Covid I barely know what day it is), then I got in my head and have only successfully managed to do 4-5 days VLCD. The VLCD I was given was: Brekky: shake, Lunch: shake or bar + Salad, Dinner: Shake + Veg. My diet has been Brekky: Shake or bar (if I remember), Dinner: Salad. Im just super worried about starting late. I was 123kg a week ago, 117kg ealier in the week and 120kg this morning (that time of the month due tomorrow for my op - Yay for me) ... I just needed to get that off my chest as it's really been stressing me out

Reflux remains after revision 😩
Tracyringo replied to itzmekc's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I have been waking up with burning in my chest like before the revision and tonight I actually started feeling it and it went on for a few hours. I am still on my PPI and hoping it clears up over the next few months. Have you gotten any better ? -
I am a revision patient from sleeve to modified DS. I haven’t read Wisconsin_Gals post but from my personal experience any strong odors or diarrhea is from my own bad behavior. If I’m playing by the rules I have neither. Good luck with your decision!

I saw some great responses. I agree it is possible to get the same results with no surgery. I definitely considered going the no revision route by just dieting correctly. Surgery doesn't make you lose weight. Your body loses weight if you eat healthy food with fewer calories. Problem is, we've failed at some point so any advantage you can get is a good thing. For me, the out of pocket cost of the surgery $5k isn't a factor since I eat meals at home or pack lunches now instead of take out. I'm eating less and the surgery pays for itself. The health benefits I can expect getting out of the Obesity class are worth it. If I can get off high blood pressure medication, avoid getting diabetes or needing a hip replacement, that's life changing. I'm 48 years old. I tell people I'm doing this to add years to my 70s.

Sleeve to bypass revision- weight lost??
California Guy replied to Goldy6575's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I got a sleeve 7 years ago. Lost a good amount of weight then gained a lot back. (326 to 209 to 300) Revised to DS one month ago. With the transition diet I started in January, Pre-OP and Post-OP diets, I've lost 78 lbs. I've seen stats on expected weight loss from a DS. It is 85 to 100% of your excess weight. If you follow nutritional guidelines, you'll get to a normal or overweight class. I've been told each operation triggers your body's response of a lack of hunger. Also, the required diet effectively reset my pouch. I'm feeling full after small meals. I used to be able to drink just about any amount of water. Now I feel limited even with water. This has made the weight loss quick and easy. I'm taking this revision as an opportunity to correct my past nutritional mistakes. -
Sleeve to bypass revision- weight lost??
Tracyringo replied to Goldy6575's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
You can lose weight but it will be up to you. It is not at all like the sleeve so be prepared. Today I am 1 month post op revised to bypass. I started at 180 my original goal weight and weigh 167.8 today. I would rather have my sleeve but it is what it is. I still have burning in the morning so at this point I still have GERD. -
we were told in the pre-op classes that we needed to drink at least 64 oz of non-caffeinated fluids a day - so yes, definitely do that. That's a good goal for anyone, really, not just WLS patients, but we're also on fairly high-protein diets, so it's even more important for us. chronic constipation is an extremely common issue for both sleeve and bypass patients. Many of us take a capful of Miralax every day - but others have had good success with stool softeners, smooth move tea, magnesium tablets, prunes, whatever. Just find what works for you and keep on top of it.

Sleeve to bypass revision- weight lost??
catwoman7 replied to Goldy6575's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I haven't had this done, but I'm guessing it might depend on whether or not you still have a lot of weight to lose. There are people who've had the sleeve who don't develop GERD until they're two or three years out, at which point they've already lost a lot of weight - so they may not have much more to lose (and don't....). I do know of someone on another forum, actually, who did lose a fair amount of weight after her revision - although I honestly don't know how common that is. -
this isn't the issue with the poster who originally wrote this, but i've heard of other people who've had it reversed because they decided to revise to a DS. The DS has a sleeved stomach - so they have to reverse the bypass, then do a sleeve, and then do the intestinal part of the DS. There are only a handful of surgeons who are really experienced in doing these RNY-to-DS conversions, and it's not common - so you don't often hear of people who'vee had this done, but they're out there...

July 2020 Surgery anyone?

Sleeve to bypass revision- weight lost??
beaker27 replied to Goldy6575's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I would love to know too! I had the sleeve in 2017, developed GERD, and hiatal hernia. Surgeon recommends revision to bypass now to help with acid reflux and promote additional weight loss. *Question for you; what insurance requirements did you have to do for a revision to bypass? -
July 2020 Surgery anyone?
nads64 replied to IWantTheDream's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@INEEDABUDDY I’m exercising using Leslie Sansone DVD’s. They’re fun to do. I figure whatever I can do for myself beforehand would benefit me. I’m getting revision from sleeve to RNY July 17th. -
I cannot for the life of me have a shake since this last surgery. Back story - 5/27 revised sleeve to RNY opened back up 6/8 said twisting 6/17 opened again and re routed the RNY to mid intestines. Shakes I loved last week just can’t do it. I have to desire to eat anything nor drink. Suggestions!? I’m going to try and get down a premiere Protein Drink now. Not even close to getting my oz. of liquids either.
