Scared and need advice
ameyer30 replied to ameyer30's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My diet is blended or puréed door right now. I get to start solids next week. I think the pasta was what threw me over the edge. It was too heavy and I think I've learned a valuable lesson. I was so scared to feel that full. I am going to chalk this up as a learning experience and keep moving forward. I've lost 23lbs in 3 weeks since being banded. I know there will be ups and downs and I'm so thankful I have this forum to share my trials with. You are all so wonderful! -
Ok so tonight I had a 3 oz piece of flounder, 1/4 cup of mashed potatoes and 1/4 cup of Mac and cheese (all blended in my food processor) and I thought it was an appropriate amount of food. I took my time and didn't drink with my meal. It's been about 20 minutes or more since I finished and I am now incredibly uncomfortable, feel super full! I am 3 weeks postop. Was this just too much and could I have hurt my surgery? I am terrified of this feeling. I have been doing so well up until tonight and I'm just worried. Any help is appreciated!

A Couple of questions.

Molly, so you eat it cold, right? I have found recipes and ideas for cold. I normally have cherry or blueberry Greek Yogurt with a tablespoon of ground flax seed. I miss hot cereal. With cold foods you can always add Protein powder, to bump up the protein if you need to. I have yet to find a powder that works in hot foods. I live in Minnesota and this winter I have really missed starting my day with a hot breakfast! My NUT told me that Egg Beaters would be my best option for a hot breakfast. I just can't get excited about eggs in the morning, although I do have them for either lunch or dinner at least a couple days a week. Thank you so much for the ideas! I am definitely going to check out that site. Always looking for new ideas!! Carol -
When can i excersise
Sleevedintx replied to kooks3003's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Just focus on walking at this point. My dr said I could go back to the gym at my 2 week appointment. I didn't do anything but cardio till I was about a month out. -
I was given a list of a schedule what to drink every 30 mins from 8a-8p which also includes the vitamins. I am finding it hard to do because I feel full. Is anyone else doing this?

Well everybody is different, ball park figure is 6 weeks, but many say it doesn't take that long, and there are some of us( like me) That it takes 6 months before you really have all your bravery back to face the world's slings and arrows. And the fact that we all differ makes for a more diverse and interesting world. Tomkitten is watching a documentary on Roger Stone on Netflix, that man is totally white- Haier but I still am about 5 years older than him. That's why I won't get a job as a carnival barker, I am horrid at guessing ages.

Omg I just went to the doctor and I'm 18 lbs down only 1 week post op...I'm so excited. I was so happy to be 276 on the scale...I wanted to jump for joy!!

Howdy all, I was sleeved exactly a week ago tomorrow AM. My doc's post operative diet called for 10 days of clear liquids following surgery, but I am struggling a bit and really want to move on to the full liquids phase. I know some people move on at 7 days and I am jealous!! I had a low BMI at surgery (29) and physically I have had no issues since surgery whatsoever. I feel good. Back at work from home (though finding it hard to concentrate when I am only intaking very low calories), I'm walking the doggie a few miles a day, no vomiting or nausea, already had some mini BMs. I do have a few incision twinges at surgery site but nothing major and the compression garment I'm wearing helps with those. I just really want something other than broth, juice and tea. That's literally all that is on the diet plan for the first 10 days. Broth, juice, tea. That's it. I'd just kill for some thicker soups or greek yogurt, even a protein shake... but don't want to defy doctors orders. Thing is, they just seemed to be his standard orders that he gives out to everyone, and not particularly tailored to me personally (sleeved in Mexico). I know three days more shouldn't be a big deal. I keep telling myself that. This is temporary. Im lucky that my partner has cooked me up delicious home made beef bone broth and chicken broth and I feel super grateful. Not sure if I am asking for approval or just moaning. I really want to stick to plan, but it's hard and this whole "I have no desire to eat" thing doesn't seem to be applying to me. The 10 day mark feels like an age away. Guessing its probably all in my head?? Other than that, feeling good!

Whats wrong with me ?
SuzanneRoupas replied to canadianchick's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm in the same place! Twenty gone immediately post op (March 20th), then nothing. Have lost 10 inches, nothing to sneeze at though. BUT I cut out the protein shakes yesterday - dropped a pound today. The first pound in 4 weeks. I have read confliciting reports about OVER-doing protien - your body uses that, not fat stores for energy and to meet BMR. I also gave myself permission to eat like a real person. Healthy protein and veggies, good fats. So, we'll see. I have been feeling like a failure too. Hope that this direction is the right course and good luck!! -

I'm returning to work tomorrow. Two weeks post op. Really not ready but duty calls. I don't plan to work all day. I will listen to my body and leave when needed. -

So, Today is my first day back at work... alot of people are looking at me like hey I thought you had weightloss surgery??? It's very comical. I personally am enjoying the looks. I think it's funny that they thought I would loose like a billion pounds in a week and 4 days. I can't wait to go home either because the pain that I had avoided all this week has returned! Like sitting here at this desk is so painful, I can't wait to take my meds and sleep. Noon can't get here fast enough!!! How are you guys doing today? Feeling good? Candace P.S. I wanna go shopping....

I am a teacher and this is my first day back to work after I was sleeved Eight days ago. I feel sweaty and dizzy. Tomorrow I move on to the full liquids faze. Will I feel much better when I move out of clear liquids? I know my bp is dropping, which is good because I have been on three Meds for it. I just need to know when it gets easier!

My Dr told me today, after 2 weeks getting into the pool was fine. Just can't go into the ocean, spas, or soak in bath tub for 4 weeks.

Pinch me... am I dreaming?
Rogofulm replied to Unstoppable's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If you keep following your program, it will work. There will be stalls, but the long-term trajectory will be down, down, down. Keep up the good work!!! -
Just my experience, after a year with the band I averaged 1 lb. per week. Some weeks were 2-3 lbs.--others none, but on average 1 per. I think it depends a lot on starting weight. My doc said at first 5-6 lbs. per month for me then later 3-4 per month as I get closer to goal. Denise

Once you make the transition from your mushy foods to solid foods again the hunger should go away especially if you are eating properly. Your weight loss will stall for a bit. Make sure you get lots of Protein. Then after the protein make sure you eat your veggies and then after veggies and protein add in the other stuff.

I would question whether or not you should be exercising like crazy at this point 3 weeks out, my dr orders specifically 6 weeks lifting nothing over 5lbs. YOu need to use this time to heal your band and make the stitches "set". losts of protein and lots of walking. As the swelling goes down the opening is larger and more goes through. Eating protien every couple of hours and good soft veggies, will help that satisfaction. The amount of fluid will help as well. keeping that "lower" tummy full, more trips to the restroom leaves less time to be eating. Good luck, be patient, make your band work for you. Welcome to the world of bandsters.

Hi there. Welcome to LBT and I hope you are getting some great/helpful information. I researched the lapband for about three years before deciding it was right for me. I just got so tired of failed attempts with diet and exercise programs that I had to finally commit to making a lifestyle change completely and not "just trying" something else. There are still many things I need to work on, but having the band as a tool, is helping me day by day. I was banded not too long ago (June 30th), so this is all still new to me as far as actual experience with the band. Some of the info can be terrifying at times, but all in all, I think the good out weighs the bad and in some cases the bad is preventable by following your guidelines. If you gain nothing else, you will at least meet some great people to help you through your decision making process and beyond. We are all at different stages and there are many stories. I am not in the food industry so I can't give much advice in this area. I don't really think you would have too many problems because you are only tasting and not just sitting down for a full meal. But during your healing period, it could be rough since you are only allowed liquids and mushy foods depending on your surgeon. How much longer do you have in culinary school? Do you get breaks? Perhaps this is something you could wait and do. Or maybe you can explain the situation to your instructors and see if they can help you in your Quest to lose weight. Not only that, but perhaps as a project you could come up with some tastey meals for all your new bandster friends to try :tongue_smilie: Everyone is always looking for new meal ideas. Anyway, Good luck with your weight loss journey.

Dilation, Fill Questions and Story So Far...
beachgirl replied to NeenBand's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Do you get stuck and pb any? I would think your fine. I would say you need more fill is what it sounds like too me. I usually can eat 1/2 cup or a little more and then usually I'll start hiccuping and know I'm done. My doctor leaves it up to me as far as when I need fills I can get them every two weeks and he usually asks me how much I want. Keep us informed on how your doing and good luck. Wish I could be of more help. -

Change in taste buds
Kimbalina replied to kmvalade's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am almost 4 weeks out from surgery (April 13th) and am on pureed foods. I was very surprised to find my tastes changing. I'm wondering what makes this happen? Is it loss of some hormones in the stomach? Anyhow my toothpaste which must have some sort of fake sugar in causes nausea and almost makes me throw up. That was a shock. Never bothered me before. Also I seem to crave certain foods, adn then when I have them mashed up and pureed, they don't give the same pleasure they did before. Not sure if this is because there is no texture to them in my mouth? I was craving a cheesesteak so we got some; I threw away the bun, and pureed a little of the contents since the meat is really lean . It tasted fantastic to have 1/2 cup of this old favorite. Also craved stouffers mac n cheese so pureed some fo this and it was great. But yes as some have mentioned, a little contained lasts you several meals. My frig has tons of little rubbermaid containers in there of partial meals. So preop people, make sure you have lots of tupperware or Rubbermaid 1 cup containers - your refrigerator is going to collect portions of smoothies and meals you can't finish in one sitting! -
Relief for knee pain
Karcares replied to Mytimenow17's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi I’m 4 1/2 months post op and down 45 pounds. I too have osteoarthritis in both knees but right knee is worse. Right after surgery pain went away which I thought was wonderful but it came back with a vengeance at about 6 weeks out. Before surgery I was on Mobic daily for the pain but had to give it up due to the surgery. I think the 6 week mark was my body completely free of anti-inflammatory- ouch. I did see my ortho when I was down 30 pounds because of the pain in the knee - I was limping. He told me 50 pounds was the magic number that seemed to make a difference. I got a cortisone shot that day, hadn’t tried that in about 8 years. It did seem to help and now I’m 5 pounds from that magic 50 number. We’ll see. He wants to do a knee replacement as well, I’m just not ready for that. I also tried the Orthovisc injections prior to surgery but it didn’t work for me. I am happy I don’t need to take anti-inflammatories anymore, at least. -
I'm 3 weeks out and I haven't experienced this problem. I hope you feel better soon!!
