I saw my PCP yesterday...Apparently this is common within 6 months post bypass. My body is trying to adjust as it is loosing weight so rapidly. It should pass on it's own but if it starts happening too much there are meds to help regulate it. I see my surgeon in a few weeks for my 6 month follow up and plan on confirming all of this with him also. In the meantime, increase my sodium levels. I am drinking so much water, and with such a low sodium intake my body is flushing the fluids. He even said maybe swap 1 water a day for a gatorade. I didn't even realize my sodium was so low because I never paid attention to that number but when I went back through my tracking APP I am under 800 mg most days, my worst day in the last month was 1100 mg. (those are salted peanut days, haha)

Beware The Coffee Creamer Pipeline
Kukubari replied to Kukubari's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
So I did try protein shake in my coffee when I was fresh off the OR table. Well, more like 2 weeks after. But yeah, it tasted so horrible. But I see now that I shouldn't use only a few table spoons of protein shake as if it was traditional creamer. I need to treat it like a latte. Mostly shake with the rest coffee. No wonders lol. -
I took collagen powder & silica for about 5 or so months for the supposed benefits but didn’t see any difference. My hair didn’t grow faster than it’s usual cycle & wasn’t any thicker, my skin was much the same & my nails were the same too. 🤷🏻♀️ It does take time though to see any effects as it’ll only boost new growth but I should have seen some effects even for a time after I stopped. Then I started slathering on a collagen serum my beauty therapist recommended. Cost a fortune & 10 months later still no noticeable change. Gave it up & began using a vitamin C serum & within two weeks I was getting compliments about my clear & glowing skin & was being asked what I was doing from like everyone: friends, family, my former dysport lady & even my doctor. Actually had to order the vitamin C serum for my 82 year old mother she was so impressed - 😁. Maybe it works. Maybe genetics plays a role. Maybe your diet & how your body absorbs & uses nutrients contributes. Maybe hormones affects how successful it will be. Always worth giving it a go. PS - When I recently starting going to a cosmetic physician for my dysport I heard this crunchy sound as she injected my forehead (never heard it before). I asked what it was because it was weird. She said it was collagen & she loved hearing the sound. Still freaked me out.

I can eat a lot more than I should - 2 months post op
Arabesque replied to Supafly82's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Best to have a chat with your dietician to work out portion sizes, caloric goals, nutritional needs that are right for you. We all have different needs. 6ozs is actually more than a recommended portion size for any adult. 4ozs is the recommended portion - I can barely eat that three years out. Certainly no where near that 2 months. As to whether you can eat steak or not is more of an issue of is it allowed on your plan or if you are able to. Many find steak hard to tolerate at first. I was eating steak pretty early on but then I only eat good quality tender cuts, cooked to medium rare & cut into very small bites. Remember, all because you can doesn’t mean you should. -
I’m having it on my face next week again by the cosmetic physician (supposed to be yesterday but doctor had to take unexpected leave). She’s using dermapen which is supposedly more advanced & a deeper treatment than the roller used in micro needling. Having it for my open pores & the acne scaring (had cystic acne). Friend had a series of micro needling treatments for loose skin on her face after her weight loss but she said it did nothing 🤷🏻♀️. https://facemedstore.com/blogs/blog/dermapen-vs-derma-roller

4 Days Post Op - Protein, Fluids - Help!
berryboo97 replied to Mebby's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
You could tried the Vital Peptides. It has 20 grams in protein, it’s unflavored. I only mix with room temp water and I add a propel mix to it. Or just mix it with propel water, or something. Talk to your nutritionist. My surgery is 10-4-22, but after surgery I am all liquids for first 2 weeks. So I am not sure what your drs is saying or wanting. My nutritionist advised me that All fluids (shakes etc) go towards my liquid intake. -

I practice buy ahead method for groceries. Also, the meal plan for the week along with tonight’s dinner (I ate it all.) -
Eating with bypass vs lapband
I♡BypassedMyPhatAss♡ replied to Juniper123's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
To me, RNY feels completely natural compared to the lap band. Maybe it's because for me, Lap Band was more like a torture device than anything else. When I eat my portion, I feel completely satisfied, in a natural way, unlike Lap Band. I have to admit tho, I seem to have had an easier recovery than a lot do. No nausea, vomiting or intolerance of any foods that I've tried so far. I'm seven weeks post op Band to RNY. -

Thank you! Surgeon said it went beautifully. He said I must have followed his directions to the letter because the liver was perfect. I don’t understand why some have a two week liquid diet and others a two day diet. Anyway… The first ten hours or so of the gas pain was awful there was no way to turn for relief. It was in my shoulders and neck and truly unbearable. Then I started the walking and it very quickly started working its way out. I ended up staying in hospital until yesterday. The nausea has been brutal. It would come in huge waves. I was able to get up and walk fine and the pain was next to nothing except when you twist or use core muscles to try to sit up. That one large incision can cause a great deal of pain. It’s like a tearing feeling if you aren’t careful. I am doing fine with hydrating with water. Not so well with broth and protein. But…better today than yesterday. The nausea is much better today. I have slept a lot. I got up and showered on my own and overall feel much better. None of this is pleasant. There are some moments that you think will never end, but it’s doable and I am not sorry. -
Congrats on bypass! I had mine on the 19th. First week was not feeling so hot, but now I'm pretty good. The only issue is that at first I wasn't hungry at all and had to force myself to drink and now I'm starving every day. Like literally feeling so hungry and tired like I could pass out if I don't eat. I'm not sure of that is normal or not.

I had bypass on 8/17! Hope you are doing ok!! I had some major constipation the first week, then some pain around the incisions. Have felt very bubbly in the stomach. Can’t drink enough! But I’m trying to lose 60 lbs to get to my goal. Feel free to write back :)

Eat the amount of calories your team advises you to eat. I thought the same as you did in the beginning the stall will pass, it sucks right now cause you are in the middle of it but it will pass. I have been through four stalls since my surgery and I still lost weight maybe I will hit another and maybe not but I'm not too worried about it right now. Stay strong.

How was everyone's Labor Day Weekend? Last weekend through this weekend I actually started doing things with people outside of my home where I was away from home long enough I needed to bring food with me. So far two of my outings were at my friends' homes so it was easy for me to warm up my food. One friend was making kabobs and I had a sliced up grilled mushroom, it was HEAVEN. I've decided that when people get together for bonfires/drinks that drinking Protein 2 O has really worked well for me, I get a big drink to sip and it makes me feel full. Then, I can just enjoy my friends and conversation. I'm down another few pounds since my first post with you guys, which is about right. 8 weeks post surgery and next week I get to have "easy to chew" foods! I think other plans call that soft foods! I'm pumped. I've actually been getting more adventurous with my foods - tried some cottage cheese with a few blueberries last night. I'm also eating cooked green beans as a "side". I still eat pretty small portions, sticking to my 1/4c which is the amount I'm supposed to eat while I'm in this "mashed foods" stage, which lasts a whole month, but like I said before - its almost over!! Next week - easy to chew foods, yay! Oh! I also ate at a restaurant last week, that was a huge deal for me. I ate an appetizer portion of ahi tuna (without the wonton crisps), I got all the flavor of the spicy mayo and the soy sauce, which made it super tasty. I also ate some roasted cauliflower (like 3 bites) and a parmesan crusted shrimp (I removed most of the crust), it was so good! Now that I've eaten outside of my home, in a restaurant and at friends' homes, I feel a bit more confident and less anxious than I have since surgery, I've been so anxious about fitting in when I can't really eat anymore. I don't have gluttonous friends that are food pushers or anything like that though. I'm hungry a lot and its not mental hunger its true hunger - I think its because I'm so scared of accidentally eating to much and making myself sick. I absolutely hate throwing up and I'll do anything to avoid it! I did push past that and have 1/2 c of cottage cheese instead of just a 1/4 c yesterday and my tummy liked it! Thanks for sharing all your stories and experiences, keep sharing!!

I hit a stall at 2 weeks and five days, and I'm at four weeks now and still at a standstill. So I've been in a stall for a week and two days. To be honest, I'm afraid that this is it. That I will have gone through painful and expensive surgery, only to lose a little over 20 pounds and nothing more. I'm eating 4-600 calories most days. The highest I've gone is 900 calories (included fruit juice) and the lowest was under 200 calories when I was feeling really bad and couldn't get anything down. The day after I ate 900 calories I gained 700 grams, so I don't think upping the calories is the answer.

How often do you guys weigh yourselves?
SuziDavis replied to SleeveToBypass2023's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Once a week, naked. Generally Wednesdays, the day of my surgery. I think the daily was discouraging. I also weighted myself day of surgery at home, naked... when they weighed me at the hospital, I was 2 lbs more, but wearing jeans, a tee, sandals, etc. -

Stall with water retention
hellohalo replied to hellohalo's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thank you! I'm trying but it's hard not to be bothered especially when I'm 5 weeks post op and not losing inches too. My urine is definitely not dark. I don't have salty drinks but my foods are definitely on the saltier side -
Got the call today...APPROVED!!!!
djhobbes replied to Happymouse13's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Congratulations on your approval. As far as advice on moving towards your surgery date, I echo the sentiments shared by others here. Make a list of everything you will need the first four weeks post-op (your surgeon and/or nutritionist can help here too) and ensure you have them on hand before your surgery date. Be sure you have a good water bottle or two that will help you track your fluid intake post-op. Get rid of things in the house that you won't be able to tolerate so you don't even have to look at them. Have foods on hand or a way set up to get them when you're able to transition to the next diet phase (the puree/mushy phase). Finally, have or arrange to have some physical support. Getting around the house may be tough post-op. Every little bit of help is a lot in my book. Good luck. -
More hungry around period?
BAA624 replied to AlanaRN's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I can completely relate and I'm glad I am not alone. I was also thinking that the further out I am from surgery, the more PMS/normalized pre-menstrual symptoms I have. I have been on Yaz for over 6 years (started it 3 years after my RNY) and for the first few years, I did not notice the intense PMS symptoms. Now, the week before my period, I just don't feel near the restriction as I do the rest of the month. I spoke with a friend who had her RNY in 2017 and she also said she can eat and eat the week before her period. I don't know if there are any studies or research to back this up, but I would swear to it that my food capacity increases before my period and then goes back to normal the other three weeks of the month. -
August 24!

Got my final drain out 1.5 weeks after surgery. Having issues with the drain spot however, as the hole isn’t in any hurry to close up on its own. Doctor wasn’t sure if the area was infected or if it was irritated so we have me on an antibiotic now just in case. That was four days ago, really hoping that drain hole closes up soon. 😖 Other than that I’m doing great, I feel fine on a daily basis. Sleeping propped up in my back is probably the worst part. I’m a side sleeper and this is not an easy transition. That plus my abdominal binder is just making for a great sleeping experience haha. -

Congrats!! Sorry that you are still having headaches but 11 pounds in just a week is awesome. How have you dealt with having to cook food you want to eat? Lots of positive vibes for a safe and successful surgery and a fast recovery! -
Beware The Coffee Creamer Pipeline
Summermoose replied to Kukubari's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
Hi fellow ADHDer! 😊 I personally would not stop caffeine if it works for you, even if meds work. We need ALL the tools we can get, maybe not all the time, but I would definitely not limit myself like that. I personally need caffeine every single day, but I try to approach it like I would exercise or medication. I need it at a certain time to get stuff done and it doesn’t need to be yummy, I know it is serving me, my body and my mind. 😊 To keep it ‘reasonable’ I drink filter coffee without any type of milk or creamer. Before I always had coffee with creamer and loads of sugar, and quite frankly hated black coffee, but I make it strong and gulp it down just to get the caffeine I need. I’ve gotten kind of used to it now. I have started treating myself to a flat white twice a week, and I look forward to it every time 😊 -
2 weeks out from surgery and I'm starting my pre-op liquid diet today. 3-4 shakes per day, plus clear liquids. Also allowed one cucumber or pickle per day if I need something to crunch. Concerned, but hopeful...
