    Newbie

Exciting news..after 3 days of which i have received news from my dr office that my insurance company has authorized my surgery. Now im just waiting for the scheduler to call and set up the date and time..
  2. I had 5.4 cc in 10cc band, and now am at 6.4. What could I expect as far as fullness and staying full? Looking forward to feeling like I did 3 weeks ago, where I'd eat very small portions and stay full for hours. Just finished a cup of cream soup, it was good. Soft foods tomorrow.

    3weeks out

Yep, very common. You’ve had pretty major life changing surgery, you’re healing & consuming very little. It’s not unusual to be feeling week & generally blah. Plus as you lose weight, the oestrogen which is stored in your fat is released into your blood stream throwing off your cycle & screwing up your emotions. It will get better just give it time. We all recover differently. Try adding some electrolytes to your water to give you a boost to your energy. Good luck.

    2 week pre-surgery diet

My pre-op was 3 VLCD protein shakes a day, and I had to have 2 cups of low carb/non starchy vegetables, which could be prepared as salad, soup, stir fry (soy sauce was allowed), or a stew. I made a huge pot of vegetable stew that got me through. All spices and herbs were allowed, so I was free to make it tasty. It was meant to be an Opti-fast pre op diet, but I can't have Opti-fast so this was my dietician's vegan workaround.
  5. Thank you so much for all of the information! Congratulations on reaching your year+ mark. Don't worry, I won't go to Mexico...again. About ten years ago I went through a serious bout of depression and was only about twenty pounds over weight but went to Mexico and had the band put in. Even the doctor told me it wouldn't work but he did it anyway because I was paying. Now I actually really need it. Let me ask you this and I'm also going to post it to everyone, too but have you had other bariatric surgery before? Is there a difference in pain or recovery time? I'm hearing how much pain some of these folks are in and I had absolutely no trouble with the band EXCEPT for such bad gas pains for a few days that I thought I was having a heart attack but as soon as those subsided I was hungry and able to eat anything. I just had the band removed about 18 months ago because quite literally my pouch had grown to almost the size of the other half. Just asking because I'm trying to gauge my recovery time for work. You also said you had no appetite during the holidays last year, because you didn't feel hungry? How about cravings? I'm pretty sure that's why I eat all the time. Did you feel nauseous, sick, achy, not hungry, out what? It took you a few months to be able to eat regular foods? I don't eat too many sweets or very often but I love meat and fruit. If I could actually afford to only eat fruit I'd be thinner and healthier but who can afford to only eat fruit? Lol. You lost 140 pounds in about 7 months, holy crap! I thought you should only lose about 10lbs per month? I'm at 275 now and would love to see 140/150 but I'd be happy just getting down to 200 again. Sorry if some of the words are wrong. I'm in my phone and auto correct is stupid sometimes. Lol Thanks again! I'm excited, I start my classes on the 7th for six weeks and then they are looking about the beginning of March for surgery. I can't wait. Talk soon! Tara

    Boredom

Although I'm just a month out, my surgery was a band revision. I really came to this 2nd decision thinking on what did I at least learn the first time and what is STILL a challenge for me. Boredom eating is it. I've had a few evenings in the past week where I'll catch myself thinking like that again, but since it's in the evening, I go brush my teeth to try and curb the urge. I also participate with writing letters to the troops so I try to write letters when I feel like that since it gets me outside myself instead of focusing on me. The summer weather is full on here so the evenings aren't cooling off all that much...grrr. I also like the post the other day that spoke on how exercise for some just has to be the "job we do." So, on those moments of boredom, my Wii comes out and Just Dance 4 goes in to have a bit of fun, because it has to be my job...and I'm bored. Thanks for the discussion start. :-) PS--being a teacher during the day usually doesn't give me time to be bored at work. Summers can sometimes be my Achilles heel.
  7. Another December 9th sleever here. Heading into the TMI area. I feel like I'm in bondage, Left arm has blood pressure and Left hand has IV. Right Finger has oxygen sensor, and Right wrist has 3 hospital bracelets, Nose has oxygen tube in each nostril. Legs have cuffs to prevent blood clots. Stomach has the bandages and I have a drain. Got my pain pump, and call button, and other room controls. Have my laptop and phone plugged in. Whew. And I have had to pee... a lot,so every time I have to go, I have to get unhooked from it all. Plus it takes forever to actually start going. I also Nurse game me omeprazole thru IV and that's generated lots of burping. Able to have ice chips but if I over indulge I get nauseous. Over indulge being about 15 ice chips. And I'm HUNGRY. That scares me, thought the hunger would be gone. Oh yeah, my scalp is itchy and dry. On the plus side my little cheats (the chicken and carrots in my "broth". The few ounces of turkey with a tablespoon each of potato, stuffing, squash and cranberry sauce. The 1/2 scrambled egg at lunch the day before surgery.. Those cheats did not come back to haunt me. I have a private room, Moving over to the post surgery threads, but wants to let you folks know it wasn't that bad. My complaints are all minor compared with my health issues due to obesity. Soooooooo glad to have done this. Good luck everyone, and see you on the other side~ Moving to the loser's bench. Can't wait till you join us there. Going back to sleep as soon as the nurses do their thing.

    soon to be banded

I don't have a date for surgery, but by June 9 will have finished all the pre-op consults, etc. I will just need insurance approval which should not be a problem as I have BC BC federal and the surgery is covered. I am going on vacation mid-june and out of town for work the last week in June. I hope I can have the surgery after that in July. I will find out probably by mid-june. I am ready. My only problem seems to be that now that I have decided on surgery my appetite is through the roof...did that happen to anyone else? Good luck with your surgery. sunny

    The Pre Op diet

I just finished 2 weeks of Optifast and after the first couple of days - I got to liking it I really only lost 8 # in 2 weeks and was certainly hoping for more but had a lot of stress in this last week as we had a death in the family. Today I will be banded - wish me well.

  17. was banded on 3/29...i think i am paranoid, but its easier to drink now...im still on full liquids, but i can tolerate a lot more at a time...is this a sign of trouble or is this supposed to happen..i think its normal b.c its only supposed to restrict solids right??? i am terrified that it slipped, hehehee and i am having some major head hunger issues..i have to do a while 3 weeks of full liquids..not even soup, just broth...i am having a hard time here...anyone else had to do 3 weeks????:help: :think
  18. So going through all my paperwork from my surgeon, I find that I will not be on an all liquid diet 2 weeks pre op. My diet will have 2 protein shakes a sensible dinner along with 3 snacks throughout the day. Dinner is a 4oz meat with 2-3 cups of veggies and the snacks are 1cup veggies or a single serving of my choice of dairy product like yogurt or cottage cheese. Anyone else have a pre op diet that was NOT all liquid?

Gout and the pre op diet

I had a problem with gout about six weeks after surgery. My uric acid level was ok but still reared it's ugly head. My Pcp gave me a prescription for Sulindac and the pain cleared up in 24 hours. It's a Nsaid so the bariatric office wasn't too happy but I'd have done anything to get rid of the pain. Haven't had a problem since. Good luck.
  20. Hi! My name is Roz, I am a 43 year old mother of 3 from NY. I had my surgery on July 20, 2011with Dr. Vamulapalli at Montefiore Medical Center. My surgery went well but I had to stay an extra day in the hospital because I wasn't able to drink enough liquids. On surgery day I was 248 and today, a month later I am 223. I thought that i had prepared myself for life after surgery but it is nothing like I anticipated. All of the sugar free drinks that I loved while preparing for surgery now leave a weird metal taste in my mouth and I was even having trouble with water and protein. There was a week that I threw up everyday, but I think that I may have been eating too fast and once I drank a little to soon. Because I could only eat about an once every few hours without the protein in between my puree stage has been extended. I'm still not eating verymuch but I can drink water now. I haven't lost any weight in the past 2 weeks or so so I'm a little scared. I worked out a little last night and that went well. I'm just really nervous and have not idea what is going on. I hope things get better.
  21. I get my taxes done at H & R Block. I called them last week and asked them if lap band is considered a tax write off. She said it is as long as you have a dr's. note. Anyone had experience with this? Did it help at tax time? I haven't even talked to my PCP yet, but plan to soon.
  22. What clear Protein drinks did you all use? They suggest one for us but I forgot to write it down and it smelled like it looked, plasticy! I thought I would be able to use Premier Protein but it isn't clear. Suggestions please! Have to stalk up in the next week!
