Hey y'all! I just got sleeved yesterday morning and was released from the hospital today. My instructions from my DR., were to only have liquids for the next three weeks. I was told I could have broth, Protein drinks, or sugar free popsicles. Why type of Protein Drinks do you all recommend for these initial weeks after surgery? I drank a lot of Premier Protein for my pre-op diet and don't know if those would help for this first stage Thank you!! Happy holidays Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

I agree with SarahSleeve. I am 14 weeks post op and have had a few stalls. My first stall was after 2 weeks post op and I didn't lose anything for 2 weeks. It happens to just about everyone at some point. -

So I went to my two week check today, and I have a hard time getting my protein shakes in because of the grittiness (I've tried premade, different brands etc) so he decided to keep me on liquids for another month, and told me to drink Ensure clear instead... I drank some and it made me throw up everything. Now my stomach feels like it's been ripped opened... and I'm also having a hard time getting even water in now... I'm at a loss... [emoji22]

How do you know when you are full? (My First Meal Post-Op)
gamergirl replied to the-Russ's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You know I asked about this, and many, many people are still drinking a shake even a year out. We're three months out and some days, we have to have two shakes before we get our 60-80 gms of protein in. We definitely need at least one daily. On my blog, I have some savory protein Soup recipes (made with real meat and veg, not protein powder), and you may enjoy some of those instead of sweet shakes. But don't worry about it for at least 6 months, I'd say. Use the shakes if you need to. blog is www.sleevers.wordpress.com and you can search for "full liquids" to get easy recipes for egg drop soup, hot and sour soup, shrimp bisque, lobster bisque, chicken and mushroom soup etc. -
Hi to everyone! I'm a few weeks short of 4 months with the band, and what a difference it has made! I have lost 35 lbs, and two sizes. On my signature, you can see the "stats". My 2nd fill is for tomorrow, and I hope it will be just right--not too much. Pats on the back to everyone, you're working hard and it shows! Cindy

I thought I would be doing better too - 9 weeks and only 28 lbs down. It's kind of depressing since the last time I lost lots of weight I was down 30 lbs in 4 weeks and didn't have nearly as much to lose. Oh well - I keep on working. You gals (and guys) are an inspiration to me so I keep reading and looking at your before/after pictures. Too bad we don't live closer... I need a walking buddy.

I am at a loss for words right now. Just got off the phone with a very good friend of mine of 14 yrs and spent the entire time defending my decision to have surgery. This friend has known of my decision for several months and never objected to the idea. I am 2 weeks post op. I guess Im just wondering if anyone else has dealt with this situation and how did you deal with it?

Hey guys, I was sleeved on the 7th of April, and I'm at home now and the pain is subsiding with each passing day. I'm a little worries though... I'm still on fluids for another week but at the moment whenever I drink something, even the smallest sip, I feel it get stuck in my tummy and it feels really uncomfortable; it passes after a few seconds when my stomach kind of... Groans (actual groaning sound) and the liquid passes through. Anyone else have this problem? (I've noticed if I take a large gulp of Water I get the same feeling, but even the smallest sip will trigger it) Thanks,

Well, I am 10 days until surgery....however that 10 days until VSG surgery, and I don't think I can do it. I waivered back and forth between the band and VSG or almost a year, finally decided on the sleeve, but now I think (I'm pretty sure) I've made the wrong decision. What do I do? Has this happened to anyone? I'm assuming I can call my clinic on Tuesday and tell them I've had a change of heart. But I'm assuming it will need to be resubmitted to my insurance as well.....I just think the sleeve is to drastic. I don't know....maybe I'm just a nut case! I met with the surgeon on Thursday last week and after she explained it all to me (of course I've read, watched videos, etc) but after she talked to me, I started getting this sinking feeling and it's just gotten worse over the weekend. Anyone words of wisdom? I could really use some right now.

Hello everyone. I got banded back in August and things have been going so so. I'm down 50 pounds and only 30 from my first goal, so I guess I should be feeling more encouraged, but I've been having a hard time with my band the last couple of months. I got a pouch dilation back in the beginning of January, right after my fill up to 5cc (I have a 10 cc band). My next appointment wasn't until February and I wasn't sure at the time whether this was a real problem, or if I was simply just starting to feel real restriction so I didn't go back for an unfill until a month later. During that month, I could drink liquids but sometimes I felt like they weren't going down as easily as they should, especially in the mornings. I was able to eat food too, in teensy lap band portions and I ended up losing 13 pounds in that one month. I've never gotten stuck so badly that I had to bring it up, PBd, or had reflux, but I did get painful hiccups sometimes that don't last very long. At my February appointment, they found the pouch and put me on a 2 week liquid diet to make it go down, but when that didn't work they had to take 2 CCs out bringing me back down to 3. I've been slowly getting refilled since then and haven't had any problems. Monday they got me back up to 5CCs, and I'm having the same problems again. I CAN drink liquids, but they aren't going down as smoothly as I think they should, I sometimes get painful 'hiccups' after eating a tiny bit of food, and I haven't felt hungry at all since two days ago despite barely eating anything. Maybe that's normal with good restriction? It's hard to describe, but I can kind of feel the band squeezing around the liquid while I drink. Should I be getting that feeling with a band that's only half full? My fill doctors are closed until Tuesday due to the holiday, they said that I could go to the ER but I don't think it's THAT series because I can still eat and drink. I'm going to do a liquid diet for the next few days, but what should I do after that? Ask for a sooner appointment to see if I have a pouch again? I really don't want to go through another unfill just when I'd started to feel good restriction again. I'm ashamed to admit that my self control isn't as good as I thought it was and I gained back another eight pounds after they took out those 2 ccs. I'm also feeling very discouraged that I can't seem to get past the 5cc mark without having this problem. I worry that if they do unfill me, I'll just have the same problem again in another three months. Is it okay to just leave the pouch alone, as long as I'm careful? Or will it lead to complications? I've love some advice, thanks!

16 mnths and the honeymoon is over
Patricia R Gordon posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm 16 mnths post RNY and I've been sitting at the same weight since 13 months post op. I found out last week after feeling like crap that my 1yr labs were off and I was mildly anemic,I was told my labs were ok but it seems they were looking at old labs. So when I went in feeling bad and wanting to eat everything I saw (they said PICA) that chances are I'm really really anemic now and they started me on Hemoctye prescription till the new lab comes in. I really want to reach my goal weight by my birthday in March it's 125lbs and I'm at 133. I was told to take it easy till I got my levels of iron and D3 back up. Is there anything I can do to maybe kick start my body again? -

Help, 3 months post op!
stephsee replied to Christina760's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am also 3 months post op. I have hit a huge stall... Lost basically nothing in almost a month! I am at the gym daily doing a combo of cardio and strength and I too am noticing eating more. Can I ask your calories? I am getting so frustrated because I was losing more per week prior to surgery than I am now. I have lost 75lbs total, 35 are from post op. I'm trying to stay optimistic but after a month of hard work it's getting more and more difficult. -
How long did u guys wait before going back to the course. Tuesday ill be starting my 6th week post opp

Question about weight loss related to body shape
perfektlynrml replied to perfektlynrml's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have a few suggestions for getting the muscle in the calves to thin out and some suggestions about loose skin. I lost all my weight at one point and had thick calves. I switched to non weight bearing exercises such as a exercise bike with no resistance and gradually the calves thinned out. Regarding loose skin. I swear by body brushing to lessen the loose skin. I went from 250 to 175 once and I used a natural boar bristle brush on my legs and thighs. It helped a lot. I also rubbed cocoa butter on my breasts and thighs daily. I was still loose but it helped. I'm due to have surgery in a few weeks and I have a new body brush and cocoa butter on hand. Good luck. Sent from my SM-A102U using BariatricPal mobile app -

When will I start losing?
Rogofulm replied to jes76's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You should start dropping weight soon as the swelling and Water retention subside. But also, here's a head's up – at about three weeks out you will stop losing again for 2-3 weeks. Don't freak out - it's normal and expected. After that the weight will start falling off again if you stick to your program. And really work to get your fluids in every day! It's important!!! -
Liquid and Food - timing issues
Cia2020 replied to AlwaysCruising's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My program is no fluids 10 minutes before meals and 30 minutes after and I can definitely tell if I drink too soon. It hurts and backs up on me. However, during the liquid stage I didn't have "meals" per se but fluid goals to meet, so I drank whatever went down that got me to my goals. Within 6 hours of surgery I could drink 1 ounce of protein fluid and 1 ounce of water, at the same time, every 15 minutes. I always took my meds with protein fluids to "coat" my stomach. Now in purees (started 2 weeks out), I follow 3 meals and 2 snacks with water all day between. Protein shake for breakfast and a lot of cottage cheese, greek yogurt, hummus, eggs, and pureed meats and pureed steamed veggies. I can eat way more volume than predicted in a sitting, though, and can drink 20 ounces of water in 45 minutes. I drink 70 to 90 ounces of water a day and get around 80 grams of protein. I have atypical GERD where it only flares with my asthma, but also mild gastritis so I'm on omeprazole for 3 months. I feel "hungry" a lot but often find that I am actually thirsty (or its head hunger and habit/boredom). I also bought some antacid chews and find 1-2 of those a day really cut down on the sharp feeling in my stomach. My doc says that the hunger and larger volume per meal will steadily decrease the more I move away from puree to soft to regular as solid food is more filling per volume. I've had a breakfast shake for years, so I will keep that to help with my protein goal but really hope to stop wanting to eat because I feel hungry soon. Plus it will be easier to make fewer separate meals when cooking for the family. -
Hi I was wondering if anyone is steroid dependant? I take cortisone tablets every day which makes you gain weight. I am due to be sleeved in 6 weeks and was hoping someone could tell me how their weight loss is going ?

Hi everyone :-) I live in Bethesda - Montgomery county. 2 weeks postop! Had my surgery 6/4. No issues, tolerating an almost regular diet, but moist foods go down best. Just started the zombies 5k app, trying to work out every other day. So far so good, 18 lbs down including the 2 week preop liquid diet. -
4 days out... So weak & tired. Anyone else?
p3aCH3s replied to Goldy6575's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm 1 week out today, and I still feel fatigued . I haven't had to take naps the past few days, but I feel like maybe in doing too much and I need to just lay down and relax . I don't think I will feel back to normal until about week 2. Good luck and congrats!
