  1. Oh gosh!! ???? how are you trying to quit? I have heard most surgeons won't do the procedure if you haven't quit for at least 6 weeks prior to surgery.

    Hours away

Definitely. I think my biggest challenge has been to stay away from those bad slider foods. I have done really well, so far, staying away from them. I don’t buy them for the house, because if I do I—we, meaning my family and I—will eat them. However, in the past couple of weeks an old family friend has returned (she is like a sister to me, an aunt to my children) and she is constantly buying and bringing junk food to the house since her return. I have stalled since she has arrived because I find it difficult to stop myself from eating them. They are so addicting and unfulfilling. I finally—this morning as a matter of fact—gathered them all up and threw them in the trash and I called her and said, “DO NOT bring any more junk, please!” Other than that, it has been smooth sailing. I MAKE time to exercise, even if I have to get up at 4 a.m. I buy healthy foods, stay away from bad carbs. I don’t miss the old greasy, unhealthy foods. Usually, when I eat something unhealthy, it is planned and accounted for and I don’t feel guilty about eating it. Post-op is difficult for anyone. You have to adjust to the restriction and you have more restriction because of the swelling due to surgery, but it will soon pass. You will adjust. You will discover there is a new, healthier you underneath, and you will love it! I truly hope and wish you the best. You can message me anytime if you have questions.

    Late period

I have good and (possibly) bad news. Bad news first - weight loss and hormone changes can actually increase your chance becoming pregnant. My gyno warned me of this because I'm on the pill and told me that I should use backup because with the weight loss and especially the hormonal changes, it was a higher possibility of becoming prego. Good news...the weight loss and hormonal changes can throw off your cycle. Mine was a month late and then came 2 weeks early for the next one. It came hard and heavy too but I was expecting it because of the surgery. So hopefully it's the good news, I've read about a lot of people being thrown off from the surgery and weight loss.

    I'm pregnant!

Wow. So I was 11 months out when I found out. 10 lbs from my goal of 136. Being sleeved and pregnant has been a challenge. My husband wanted another baby but I was skeptical. Since finding out I am pregnant I have fallen in love. I so happy and hope we are having another boy! I am 10 weeks now. Morning sickness has plagued me as always. Hoping to get back to the gym soon.

    gall bladder

I can explain a little. Rapid weight loss can cause problems with the gallbladder. It can develop stones and/or sludge, or it could be neither and it just quits functioning like its suppose to. Symptoms can be painful right upper quadrant abdomen after eating fatty/spicy foods. Sometimes it doesn't even have to be a specific food. The pain can shoot straight through to the back, sometimes will cause the right shoulder/neck to feel sore. can feel like intense heart burn. The best part about it though, is people can live without the gallbladder and its a fairly easy organ to get rid of. So, what I would do is #1. Call the doctor #2. Get an ultrasound (ct does NOT show the gallbladder well enough for it to be diagnostic. Unless you have a huge stone that they could see, ultrasound is the best. #3. If the ultrasound is negative, do a nuclear medicine study with an ejection fraction . Thats what tests the function. Hope you get better soon!

    Surgery!

I had my first surgery when I was 24 and I was scared out of my mind! But, honestly, your image of it is a lot worse than it actually is (or at least that was true in my case lol). They take you into the operating room and the anesthesiologist talks to you bit and may ask you a few questions and then... you wake up in recovery. I'm 32 right now and have had surgery 3 times (gallbladder removed, brain surgery, weight loss surgery. In that order lol). I was only scared the first time because it's the unknown that terrifies. And yeah, you'll be in pain when you wake up, it's typical of any surgery. But, you tell the doctor and they'll give you some lovely pain meds and you should pretty much be fine after that. Just make sure you walk, walk, walk, because you want to get that gas out of you and that's the only way to do that. Yes, it'll suck and you'll be sore and won't want to do it, but you actually feel a lot better when you push yourself a little bit. Not too much, just a little. If you're have the sleeve surgery (or DS or Loop DS) then your incision site where they removed your stomach is going to hurt the most. I had to have my mom help me in the shower because if I moved a certain way it hurt so bad I'd start crying. Also, getting up hurt. And sometimes sitting down. However, I also didn't take my pain meds so I'm not really a point of reference lol. I have a high pain tolerance due to my TN and I hate how pain meds make me feel so if I feel like I can withstand the pain I do and won't take the meds (I had a 30 pill prescription. I took maybe 8 or 9 pills of that and still have the majority of the prescription left over somewhere...). So yeah, it's nowhere near as bad as your mind is making it seem. Just focus on how you're going to feel a year from now when you've lost a ton of weight and are a healthier you! I wish you the best!

  11. Here's my story...I wanted lap-band in 2010 and didn't even see a surgeon or go to a seminar because I basically "chicken out". I started the sleeve journey in March, thinking I had a six month supervised diet, then found out my insurance didn't require it. So, I thought I would be having surgery in July, then I had a delay, then I thought it would be August because my surgeon is super busy. Then, I got approved and was for sure thinking I could get it in September. Finally, today I talked to the insurance coordinator/scheduler, she told me it would probably be October because the surgeon is so busy, I was soooo disappointed...then she asked me what my BMI is, I told her, she said that on Tuesdays the surgeon does fairly easy cases early in the morning, only one surgery a day on Tuesdays and she would let me know next week if I will be sleeved on August 5 or 12. I was sooo excited at that news. But I have cried three times after finding out! I know I won't "chicken out" this time but wow, reality sets in, someone cheer me up! I guess I'm back into the August Sleevers posts again! LOL

    Got my date!

I am going to Cancun May 4th, post opts on the 6th and sleeve surgery on the 7th. I have been researching on line continuously for about 3 months only after doing the same thing 4 years ago but then not being able to go through with the surgery. Over the past 4 years I have attended 3 seminars on bariatric surgeries. Many of you have responded to my questions and I have read many many posts. I think I am well educated and ready to get to the "other side" no matter how scary it is! Thanks to all who have sent emails and posted comments. I look forward to my journey and having a community on line for support, encouragement and information. Any advice or comments will be appreciated. Brenda
  16. Hi, I need some advice. I have gotten through most of the process and will possibly have a definite surgery date within the next 1-2 weeks. My close co-workers know that I am having the surgery. The place doing my surgery is trying to work around the week of vacation I have already requested off and they are holding a date right now for me for the week before my vacation. My dilemma is how to tell my boss. I know I have no obligation to tell them what I am having done, but I'm afraid if I don't tell her she will hear it from one of my coworkers what I am having done. I'm just really nervous. I will have been at my job exactly a year the day I'm possibly scheduled for surgery. Can anyone tell me what u have told your bosses? Thanks!

    Pain! Help

Do you have pain meds? Or even Tylenol? No sense in being a hero and fighting through the pain, that's what the meds are for I definitely had one spot on my left side (actually a little below an incision) that has been giving me trouble. I'm just over three weeks out, and the last two days have been the first days when I've been almost completely pain free. Good luck, and I hope you feel better soon! ~*~ Find me on YouTube: Trisha's Sleeve Story ~*~
  21. My surgery is Monday Jan 9th and I'm on a liquid diet last week and this. Problem is I haven't lost any weight yet. It's entirely my fault, going through the holidays my "sensible meal" was larger than it should be. It wasnt that I was eating sweets, just to big of portions of what I did eat. So now of course I'm freaked out about not being able to have surgery. Does anyone have any recommendations for the time between now and Monday? The two shakes a day are covered, no brainer, but the sensible meals any ideas? Or should I honestly at this point just switch to 3 shakes a day since there is ZERO time between now and Monday. Thoughts, ideas, suggestions?

    Happiness is...

KC - Maybe once a week I experience a 'happy night' like this one; I miss the days of thoughtless, carefree movements (I'm about 6.5 weeks post-op.) My point is this - - don't worry. Some bloating, some less than satisfactory bathroom time? No big deal if it means we're going to have a long life, feel better and look better!

    Green zone ?

How long are you staying satisfied. You should be able to stay satisfied for 3 to 4 hours. It's not going to help head hunger, that's psychological and you'll have to deal with that separately. As for the feeling in your chest, could be too big a bite, not chewing well or eating too fast and not allowing your pouch to empty properly before putting more in.
  24. 36 since surgery - the other 10 during 2 week pre op.
  25. I had my first fill on 11/09 and I have 4cc in my 10cc band. I'm not hungry until around 12:30 but when I do eat I can have a more than a cup, but still small portions, probably 2 cups. I'm eating slow and if I do eat too fast I feel like I'm going to get stuck ( pain in chest almost like heartburn) so I stop. Is this my "green zone"? Or am I supposed to be eating less than a cup in my green zone. Just trying to make sure I'm doing this right. I've last 3 more lbs since 11/09, yay!
