    July 2020 Surgery anyone?

Wow yea they let you on pureed food already? I had my gastric bypass Monday July 6th im on full liquids until after the 1st week visit and it sucks!
  2. Hello there guys. Hope all is well. Well most of you know my story. Started my weight loss journey 10.5 months ago. Had surgery 8.5 months ago. Been in maintenance now 2.5 months. My high weight when I met the surgeon was recorded at 322LBS and I have lost weight really well and consistently the whole time, averaging about 20lbs a month 😁 i got down to 165lbs and have been stable and maintaining that weight for the past 2.5 months, I still check my weight often to make sure I'm not going up and this morning my weight has gone down again.... i don't understand. Like I'm not even trying to lose anymore weight I'm already below goal weight and feeling amazing. In maintenance I've been eating more calories and adding in different foods and some carbs and to be honest I've had a few treats here and there; I honestly believe the bypass has completely changed my metabolism and how my body processes calories 😁 I'm not counting calories as much and enjoying my new life. I'm just wanting people to see it is possible to be successful. Today weigh in - 162.8. that's 159.2lbs lost and that is amazing literally HALF MY BODY WEIGHT GONE......

    Feeling very out of control

I know how you feel but I'm telling you it is possible to change... I literally woke up one day and decided that's it I'm done with the junk and gave it away to my friends and committed myself to eating right from that day on... I actually lost 60lbs before surgery and I've since lost another 99lbs and way below goal with the bypass

    Nervous

Surgery was the best decision ever... I've lost weight before but it always came back on.. but with the bypass I've lost more than ever and kept it off for months now and feel amazing...

    VSG PostOp Bad Experience

@_Chonk_, GERD gave me an esophageal stricture that was fixed with a myotomy, cutting through the muscular outer layer of the esophagus to let the inner layer expand. I also had a small hernia repaired. So in total with the bypass I had three procedures done. It was a four hour surgery. My surgeon suspects bleeding from one of the staple lines, but he doesn't know which one. I had a drain for nine days.
  6. Post GS I went from 208 to 125lbs. I bounced between 125 to 128 was rarely hungry, could eat pretty much whatever I wanted. Three months ago I was diagnosed with pneumonia and prescribed prednisone and antibiotics. After 2 weeks was hospitalized for iv antibiotics and iv Solu-medrol followed by 3 more weeks of prednisone. I ballooned up to 147lbs and it’s been about 3 weeks since I stopped steroids. I am now hungry almost all of the time! I have cut down my caloric intake to a fraction of what I ate “pre-steroids.” Currently I weigh 139, it’s been a constant struggle, it’s like preGSV Did the steroids permanently screw up my system? Will I get my “system back” as it was before the steroids; if so how long will it take? Any suggestions? Or should I start saving $$$ for a revision? What scares and confuses me is I am actually eating LESS than I was before getting ill. The steroids slowed my metabolic rate.

    Revision completed

I weighed in at 169.4 this morning. Lets talk about head hunger !!! I am hardly ever hungry if ever but I have raging head hunger lately and its driving me nutz and stressing me out...…. I am not saying that I never had head hunger with the sleeve but the difference is I could not and didn't eat past full. I am not saying I could not eat around it but usually didn't. This is so much different because I can eat a lot more food now with this bypass and rarely feel anything. I am not pushing myself I am just saying head hunger is a beast with this thing and I hate it. It has crossed my mind that I may need to go get some help with this head hunger if I cant keep a leash on it. Honestly I feel like I never had WLS to begin with now and I am afraid and nervous. How do people say they have a tool to work with when you cant feel anything ? Well hopefully my GERD will be gone and I wont have to worry about cancer anymore.

    VSG PostOp Bad Experience

I am so sorry your surgery had complications. I had a sleeve to bypass revision for GERD on 6/29. I was unable to stand up to begin walking without becoming tachycardic and dizzy on 7/1. My hemoglobin was 7.1 and I got 2 units of packed red cells. I felt much better afterward. My drain was left in for 10 days as I continued to produce a lot of blood from the chest. My surgeon suspects I bled from several areas as I had more than one procedure done. I feel much better now. I hope you feel better soon, you have been through a lot.

    Lap Band to Sleeve?

I am having problems keeping food down. Not all the time tho. And I started getting heart burn. Taking pills for that. I have had the band for 13 years now. I don’t want to get rid of it. It is not invasive like a sleeve or bypass. Dr. Patterson said that when we all gone all that will be left of us will be a pile of lapbands. So they do no desinagrate. I think my problems with the lap band is that I am getting older and might have these problems even without the band. I just don’t feel good about them cutting part of my stomach out for the sleeve. No taking a out then. jmo.
  10. I'm in the same boat. Never had reflux. And now I am post OP 1 yr yesterday and the reflux is so bad. , and the nurse and doctors suggested either the strata or bypass. Sent from my SM-G955U using BariatricPal mobile app
  11. Lap Band to Sleeve?

Hi All, I am new to this group. I had lap band surgery in 2009, I was lucky and had the realize band. When I started this journey I was up to 280. I had got to 240 on my own and then I had surgery, well it didn't go as planned my port was up high and got infected and I had to have the port removed then put back in several months later. When I finally started getting fills I was 208 and did well for a while. I got down to my lowest 140 but after starting to run was about 165. Now I am dealing with Menopause and having a hard time. In October they decided to drain my fluid due to vomiting and not keeping food down. I had a upper GI no issues so they slowly and I mean slowly started to fill my band. Well COVID hit and I only had 1.5 cc in my band and I was not able to go in for a fill for 5 months. I went in earlier this week and I qualify for revision to a sleeve due to my BMI. The thing is I can't lose 5 lbs or I will no longer be considered. I started doing more protein this week and now I have lost 5lbs. I am kind of scared they wont approve me now. I am excited to be doing this. Honestly I am sick of being poked by people who hardly do this anymore. Anyone else have the band to sleeve after 10 years? Was it successful? I would love to hear your story.
  14. Hi Gang. 200-pound Meow here. STILL. Honestly it's becoming a joke. I step on the scale and it jumps above and then below and then stops on exactly 200. I think this is day 6. ((eyeroll). So I'm holding at a solid 17 pound loss on post day 30. Ah well. Waiting for that swoosh people talk about. Hope it's several at once. I'm only eating 600 calories a day and getting at least 200 calories exercise a day according to my tracker so it can't stay here much longer. EAT THAT FAT. THERE'S PLENTY ON THE THIGHS, BABY. BURN IT! Oh yay! Bariatric nightmares!! Dream Dumping! Lol. So good to hear you're eating and feeling pretty good, Groovy. Nice to hear about the fruit. I've been stealing that banana since week 2 and have had no trouble. I think it's clear sugar isn't going to make me dump and frankly I'm relieved. I am also taking the vitamin without iron and plan to continue that until the bloodwork says I'm in need. It's hard enough to poop regularly. My daughter had a dance competition this week and today I chased her around for a few hours in a big convention center carrying a big bag. It's the first "outing" I've had besides a quick trip to the grocery store or errand and I was surprised how weak I felt. Gonna need to try and push myself more, I think. And figure out what I'm missing if I can't because I'm 47 years old and 200 pounds and I should be able to do what was asked of me today without issue. Time to start kicking the exercise up, maybe. What's everyone else doing? ONWARD BYPASSERS!

    July 2020 Surgery anyone?

Got my new date after waiting since March .... my day is now July 28 .....praying the hospital continues to do the bypass..... any thoughts on how long people will be out of work? I am wondering if due to the virus doctors are keeping people home longer after surgery?
  18. Maybe its not so much bypassers vs. sleevers who have “dietary restrictions”, but dumpers vs. non-dumpers (across ALL surgery types). I am sleeved and I dump. I know there are other sleevers on here who dump also. It’s just luck of the draw I guess. With that said, I do on occasion have a dessert anyway (but Im 20+ months out and been in maintenance for over a year). Sometimes I won’t dump, but most times I do. I do find the effects worse when I eat said dessert too fast, or if my stomach is empty when I have it.

    July 2020 Surgery anyone?

Hi Team July and visitors! I had my bypass surgery on Monday. I have been doing quite well, but the pain in my left shoulder really ramped up last night. My surgeon’s PA said I would have referred pain from my diaphragm due to a hiatal hernia repair. I am hoping it feels better soon. Other than that, I did manage a short walk yesterday along with getting my protein and water in. All in all, I feel like I’m doing well and would consider myself as doing great if the shoulder pain would reduce a bit. Oh well, Tylenol is my friend. Hope all of you are hanging in there as your surgeries happen. Please let us know how you are doing.

    Post ESG diet advises?

at my clinic, the patients are all on the same diet, regardless of surgery. I'm not familiar with ESG, though. In the US the majority of weight loss surgeries are VSG ("sleeve") and RNY (gastric bypass). when you can eat "normal food" depends on the surgeon. I could eat pureed food as soon as I got home from the hospital. Some people are on a liquid diet for two weeks before they can eat pureed foods. At about four weeks out, most of us can at least eat "soft" foods.

    Endoscopic Sleeve Gastroplasty

Hello. I am 48 and plan to have the ESG done. Compare to the Mini Gasric Bypass could someone give me some info on diet. On my understanding the diet is easier with ESG as I can eat quite everything but on small doses. CORRECT? THANKS

    weight gain after surgery

Hi I had my gastric bypass in 2011 i had lost 120 pounds. i have gained 60 pounds back. I am totally disapointed in my self. I have tried everything to get it back off.i was a slow loser to start with but it came off. also i had a transfer addiction with alcohol i have been sober 17 months i know it was between that and the over eating again as to why i gained the weight back. i just need some good support and disiplin i can get back on track. My name is Tammy I"m 56 from Michigan.i was excited when i found this sight hopefully this is a new tool i can use to get my body moving again lol Thank you
  23. Sounds like you're truckin right along! Protein powder (genepro) in soup broth and 1 oz Sugar free jello shots made with the same protein powder (had 2 grams each) kept me alive the first 5 days when putting anything in me felt like a mistake. Have you tried these? You will be amazed at the week marks and how much better you feel. One week was a huge difference. Then two then three. Today I ate 2 ounces of ground chicken and peanuts in a thai broth and for the very first time I did not feel uncomfortable afterwards. Normally I get the "too full-not ready for this" feeling. Not today. Today is my 4 week mark. I have been approaching this like a rebirth. Relearning now to eat and considering the first 8 weeks to be a time I expect to feel badly. I'm halfway thru and today is a good day. Hope it is for everyone else as well. It's also the 5th day in a row of being 200 pounds. CRAZY! My bod doesn't want to let go of the 200s. Well... I think tomorrow is gonna be the day. ONWARD BYPASSERS!!

    LOW BMI MGB?

I had bypass surgery with a BMI of 32. I have 40-50 pounds to lose. I chose bypass because I have diabetes and the bypass helps that greatly.. I had surgery a month and a half ago and have lost just over 20 pounds. I wanted a permanent fix to get diabetes under control. Diabetes is getting better. I also had acid reflux and the sleeve can make that worse.

Sleeve to Bypass due to GERD

My sleeve didn’t cause my GERD, the tearing of a new hiatal hernia did. I had one repaired when I had my sleeve done in December 2019 (264lbs) I ended up developing a new hiatal hernia mid March (232lbs). My surgeon sent me for a barium swallow. So along with the GERD to mid esophagus and the hiatal hernia I also have esophagitis from it. I'm just waiting on insurance approval for my revision. I honestly loved my sleeve but since the hernia happened I have only lost 10lbs in the last 4 months and am currently sitting at 222lbs. Some days I find it hard to eat because I feel so nauseous all the time and developed intractable hiccups because of the GERD. If I could do it again, I’d still have a sleeve.
