Recommendations for surgeons near Austin, TX?
Kris77 replied to heartofmercury's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
Dr Mahlon Kerr is in Austin. I’m very happy with my results. I got a breast lift and Aug w TT. PM me if you want Now you’re not going to get in next week or in the next couple months with anyone. Takes time. Consultation and then booking your procedure out. Def don’t book with a surgeon who can get you in that quickly. Most good ones are busy. -
Mine too! One week I am on meds and blacking out when I stand up. So I taper off, it looks great for a while and then my BP goes up too high again.

All natural peanut butter is a better substitute if you have to have it but it is high in calories and could cause an obstruction. Your anatomy is still swollen and trying to heal. Stick with full liquids for this week

Congrats on your surgery! What you're feeling is totally normal. Find ways to still be included in family meals, I know it's hard. The First few weeks I was eating a lot of mashed potatoes & gravy and green beans with my family. They tried their best to accommodate and make it feel as normal as they could. It will get easier with time, stay strong : )

Hi there, it has been wonderful to read all of the stories here. I'm a 39-year old mother of three from Finland and have had RYGB 17 days ago. Here surgeons actually operate more RYGB than SG (contrary to US), and although I was set on SG before when I decided on needing the surgery, the surgeon did convince me with RYGB suiting me better in the end (and she is the surgeon in Finland who gets referred with the most difficult cases and operates a lot both in University hospital as well a privately, so I just ended up trusting her expertise). I don't know anyone personally who has had the surgery so nobody to really have discussions with about the downs (ups is another matter as I do have a family but obviously not all of the NSV's (a new term I learned today, yay) can be comprehended by someone who really has never been there. I started my journey with the decision in May, first appointment at the clinic June 2nd weighing 352 lb (160kg, I'm 5'10 tall so BMI about 50 at this point), 11 weeks later August 10th had a meeting with the surgeon and internist for approval (weighing 320 lb), had to have ECG and gastroscopy due to medical history to be approved, and the surgery was done 26th of August so jyst over two weeks ago. My weight that day was 317 lb (143,8kg), and currently it is 301 lb (136,6kg). Here in Finland we have the possibility to get the operation through regular healthcare system if we fullfil the criteria (BMI over 35 with obesity related diseases or BMI over 40 plus you need to have had experience before atleast of 6 months of conservative weight loss (can be from the past, does not need to be just then) and you need to lose 8% of your weight prior to surgery with atleast 3-4 weeks vlcd to make sure liver loses its fat to make surgery less risky). I obviously fullfilled the criteria and was referred to the process, but unfortunately due to Covid having resulted in so many cancellations of elective surgeries, the waiting time for surgery was more than a year in every University hospital (we have 5, so I called everyone of them). Here we have this wonderful thing, called progressive taxation which ensures that people who make decent money, don't really get to keep more than 50% of my paycheck so having good healthcare and free education (like University is free, free school meals up until you're 18) comes with a prize tag that we just have had to accept, so obviously I would have preferred to get the surgery for that regular prize (which would have been probably around 300 euros in total with the doctor's pre visits and the hospital days). However I quickly decided, and my hubby agreed, that waiting for a year, maybe even two, was too long as my body had gone through so much already last year. I was worried that too long of a wait would result in me yoyoing with my weight and more complications could have a really bad impact on my long term health. So, I ended going to a private hospital in Finland which in overall was a good experience, and I was able to go home the next day as planned. Tried to go to work 3 days later, but had to go back home after a couple of hours and just work from home the amount I was able to. After leaving the hospital I only took a couple of acetaminophens a day, which I found quite surprising. A week later I was already working regularly normal hours (mostly a desk job, no heavy lifting). No vomiting but a couple of times now that after two weeks I was allowed to have crisp bread (and somehow thought it was a good idea to make it less dry by combining it with cream cheese) have I had it block the stoma or just become just a big clump inside the pouch. Not a pleasent feeling, and tried to drink a bit, and I could feel the fluid staying in the esophagus so just waited it out... Thing I find most annoying is that I have never been a person to drink my calories, not a soup person, especially pureed soups are not at all my thing. Vlcd with the shakes was already a 5 week misery and the the liquid and pureed food phase now after surgery. I already hate all the things I previously used to like such as protein puddings and smoothies. I like the textures of differents foods, fresh fruits and vegetables and can't have most of them in a long time. I have started to chew foods like sweet paprika in my mouth to get the experience and then spit it out to not cause problems. I had no idea I would grow such a disgust (it really is like a physical feeling of nausea) towards so many liquid and pureed foods so quickly.. Feels like right now, at this point when I really don't have any of the NSV's etc effects yet, that it is quite hard to stay in positive at times when the physical nausea, inability to join the family dinners etc. makes you feel down. Maybe atleast some of you understand where I'm coming from, some support would be encouraging. At least reading threads about different topics related to WLS is already something to keep my mind of negativity. Final note; WLS aka weight loss surgery sounds so much more upbeat than our translation in Finnish which is Lihavuusleikkaus (direct translation to Englush for it is Obesity surgery). It sort of has the emphasis on the obesity rather than what it aims to do. Person who came up with the terminology must not have been obese themselves... Its been over a year since my surgery. The past few months I've been experiencing constant pain on my right side, lower back, neck, nauseous after eating, some constipation, bloating. More recently, headaches and not sleeping well. Over past few weeks pain has increase particularly at night. My primary doctor has ruled out problems with pacreus, liver. I'm doing my own research to cover all basis. After a brief discussion with my gastric surgent he didn't think I had a leak, reason being that its not very common so far after surgery. I have experience a number of things with my health that was not very common and it took doctors a very hard time to diagnose. No one has said that after a years time a gastric sleeve leak can't happen, It was said, it was not common. So I continue to search for answers.

Between the cramps and fatigue I have been a hot mess. Showing signs of slowing down so I’m hopeful that I’ll soon start to feel better and maybe then see some movement on the scale again when this wraps up. Trying hard to remember this is a sign my body is getting healthier but in the last 4 weeks I’ve only had 7-10 days WITHOUT my period so I’m a little worried what the next few months will be like. Hope you start getting some relief and feeling better soon. -
Is this normal? Does it go away?
Arabesque replied to Miimii_Roci274's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Yeah, your tummy can be pretty fussy & sensitive for a while. Plus the temporary changes to your sense of smell & taste can make finding foods you can tolerate a bit of a challenge. There even may be odd times when your tummy just says no to something you’ve eaten without issue then it’s fine again a day or so later. I used to say my tummy was like a tantrum throwing, pernickety 2 year old. Eggs, chicken breast, beef can be difficult for many. Don’t give up any food doesn’t like. Just leave it for a week or two or so & then try again. Or try a less coarse, more moist cut like minced beef or chicken thigh. It does get easier. -

I was told to expect 2 weeks minimum, and I work from home. The issue isn't pain, it's mostly due to tiredness and brain fog. Also, it's super hard to get your fluids/protein in, and that will just be harder if you're trying to work as well. Can you take short-term disability? -

I'm taking 4 weeks but I have a pretty physical job with basically no time to eat or drink so I gotta take the financial hit, or I'd probably pass out. You'll probably be fine. I'm 5 days post and if I had an office job, I probably could have gone to work yesterday. Can't say if productivity would be great, but you do what you got to. -

How long is everyone taking off work? My surgery is Thursday the 29th and I need to be back at work by that Monday... is that possible? For context I work in an office sitting for 8 hours with the freedom to get up and walk around as much as I want... I noticed people on fb were taking weeks off and so I'm nervous. I kinda HAVE to go back to work...can't afford time off. -

My first week was clear liquids and protein drinks weren’t allowed. This week I have been allowed, but they are just sickeningly sweet to me. I was able to get down a third of an Atkins shake by cutting the whole shake with about 1/4 cup of heavy cream. Mostly I’m living on Creamy chicken soup broth and it hits the spot. So good. Before surgery, I loved the Gatorade Zero with Protein. Now I hate it. Ditto on sf pudding…yogurt…protein shakes…anything sweet. All I want in this life is a fried egg with half a piece of toast. -
How did you reward yourself for losing weight?
loli_lotus replied to omrhsn's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
My birthday is next month and coincides with my projected second week of pureed, as a reward for staying on plan I'm gonna buy a new phone lmao. A local tandem skydiving place had a 160lb weight limit for my height, so naturally I decided when I hit that, I'm jumping out a plane. -

I luckily stopped myself from swallowing an accidental gulp, I got it down in three and it hurt but it could have been worse. -

Wow, interesting, I still can't eat lettuce but I guess I'll see how that goes with me. And I'll wait a week or two to try chicken and eggs again, and see how it goes. Thanks for replying! Sent from my STK-LX3 using BariatricPal mobile app -

RickM replied to Miimii_Roci274's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Eggs seem to be one of those foods that bother some people and not at all for others - I had scrambled eggs in the hospital and boiled eggs the first week home (on the plan...) with no problem. It's just one of those things - for some it may be lettuce (when it comes to that phase) or beef or who knows what. As suggested, try it again in a couple weeks to see how it does - that was one of our program's basic rules - test foods one at a time for tolerance and if one doesn't work, try it again in a couple weeks. -
Stretching Exercises
SpartanMaker replied to fed-up's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I agree, talk to your doctor. Most doctors want you to avoid any form of exercise other than walking for at least a couple of weeks and some even longer. Also, I would not call most of your examples "stretching exercises". At the very least, they'd fall under what we used to call calisthenics in the old days, but more properly fall squarely into the bodyweight strength training realm. Your toe-touch example is the only one that might be considered a stretch, but it's highly dependent on how you're doing it. -

Listen to your body and take it easy. Do partial movements without too much weight engaged. Honestly, I say wait 8 weeks. Then all systems go! -

Good luck to everyone who has surgery tomorrow!! You all are going to do great! Remember to sip, sip, sip your water! My surgery was two weeks ago and I’m only down 10 lbs so far but it’s a marathon; not a race. I had a revision from VSG to RNY. No acid reflux! Hurray!!!😁🎉 -
I think I'd probably hold off on the sit ups and toe touching until you see the surgeon. Not sure about leg lifts. I wasn't supposed to do anything other than walk the first four weeks. You could always call the clinic and ask...

Hi all , I am 4 weeks post op .I've never been a great walker but I have always done stretching exercises like sit ups , leg lifts , toe touching etc even when I was mega large .My surgeon isn't seeing me till the end of the month , does anyone else do exercises yet ?
