Guys is it normal to be terrified of my surgery tomorrow? I am getting the gastric sleeve and this has been a two year process. I’ve been on the liquid diet for 2 weeks and now that my surgery day is here I am extremely nervous. I suffer from anxiety so I know that plays a part. Anyone have this un easy feeling ?

My surgery is on Wednesday and this morning I finished my protein shake I purchased from my doctors office. According to them my pre-op supplies are exactly for the 2 weeks of liquids. I just have my soups. What am I to drink until Tuesday? Sent from my SM-A716U using BariatricPal mobile app

My tips and why I Don't recommend Sleeve surgery for long term
strawberryga posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Iv'e had BOTh the ruen-y bypass surgery that was successful FOR over 10 years, after having a baby, gaining weight back and having vitamin deficiency issues I had a revision to a gastric sleeve. The sleeve has been a joke, there is no stopping me from over eating sweets or fried foods, I was sick when I ate those things with a ruen-y. I had an upper gi last week (I am 7 years post op of revision) Dr says my stomach looks like any other non surgery stomach he sees. So much for my surgery dr saying stomachs dont stretch. 1.Ruen-y is more evasive but it keeps you from eating sweets/fried foods without becoming so ill you have to lay down for 2 hours. (not dangerous, just very uncomfortable) 2.If you have weight loss surgery be SURE to have lipo suction after you've lost most of y our weight. Once you grow a fat cell you NEVER loose it unless you have it removed by having lipo suction or cool sculpting. A fat cell will lay flattened until you have extra calories that need stored then they pop right up. Get rid of them b&&*$ right away, you can still grow more cells if you over eat but it takes time to grow them new, old cells are like little saboteurs waiting to fill up again. 3. If you don't like aerobic activity try chill-aerobics. Sit somewhere cold.. shiver and ur body burns fat. 15 min. of shivering equals 30min,. of aerobic activity. Your body will burn fat to try and warm you up. (it's actually opposite in a polar bears body) -
I'm feeling EXACTLY this way. Even worse since I was told this week to weigh myself every 3 days, not good for my mental health! I weighed myself this morning, swore I wouldn't be upset, yet still was crying and I'm still so upset 3 hours later. I also thought this surgery would change my slow loser status. I gobbled up the success stories and thought, hey maybe THIS time I'll be one of those successes! Nope! I'm doing the math, pre-op I was told I should expect to lose 125 my first year. Unless I suddenly start losing a steady 3 lbs a week, which I haven't done so far...there's no way I'll hit that. I wanted to lose 160 lbs, and if I can't lose it in the first year it's extremely difficult, yet it's ALREADY so difficult...I just don't see how realistic reaching my goal is. I'm already drinking my water, getting my protein, exercising 6 days a week 40-60 minutes. Weighing and measuring my food, tracking everything that passes my lips, following every single instruction I've been given. There's nothing I can do more, I really think I'm only going to weigh myself monthly or every 2 weeks. Every weigh-in is so traumatic, telling me I'm failing AGAIN, I'll never be one of those success stories. I'm not going to quit, but I don't know how to adjust my expectations. Every time I swear I'm going to feel ok about whatever the scale says, but I'm not. When not weighing myself I feel good about my progress. I'm stymied on how to handle this. So yes, I understand how you feel.

I had mine done in Tijuana, Mexico almost 3 weeks ago. It cost me 6320.00 American dollars plus my travel there by plane to San Diego, California where a driver picks you up from the airport and takes you across the border. I chose Frontier airlines and it was about 250 for a round trip ticket. All was very professional and safe. They take better care of you than any hospital I've ever been to in the USA. My doctor was Dr. Papilla and he was wonderful. You can even purchase your surgery video after its all done if you want. That is 50 bucks. I chose to have my after care meds delivered to the hospital for 180 bucks but you could get a prescription instead if you prefer. Its a very seamless experience and I have already lost 50 pounds since I started this journey. I started at 318 pounds and today weighed in at 268 pounds. That includes the preoperative diet that started 4 weeks prior to surgery. The day I weighed in for surgery (September 6th 2022) I was a whopping 295. My diabetes is gone, my fatty liver is reversed and my vision has returned almost completely (I can read without my glasses again) and the swelling in my legs is nearly gone. I have a personalized diet plan with their dietitian and they are still keeping in touch with me. I am so pleased with them. I had surgery at Hopsital CIBA through a company based in California called Be Slim Bariatrics. They ONLY do bariatric surgeries. The doctor will approve you for the surgeries he sees fit vased on your medical application and you can choose the one you want to go with. I chose Gastric bypass instead of the sleeve since I researched it and found that it was more likely to reverse diabetes. I took the gamble and feel like I have WON! The doctor speaks English and most of the nurses do too. I put a translator on my phone and we had no issues. I do not regret this decision and I would do it all over again. My only regret is having waited so long to jump on it. Beslimbariatrics.com It literally is saving my life. Health insurance in Texas said its purely cosmetic and refused to even consider it. I feel alive again. Diabetes was literally killing me. If you have any questions please let me know. I was scared to go but after researching for almost a year I made the decision to leap. I figured that I was dying anyway and I would rather die trying than to sit back and wait for diabetes to kill me first. Oh and the hotel they put you in the night before surgery was the nicest place I have ever stayed. I literally felt like a movie star. Its gorgeous. They transport you to the hotel and to the hospital. Its called the Quartz Hotel in Tijuana, Mexico. Look it up. I couldn't have asked for a better experience. Officially at 1 month out today. The last week has been a mess. Up and down (mostly up) 2-3 lbs from my lightest weight this month. Recently transitioned into soft foods the last few days, per my doctor’s orders. He basically doubled every stage, which was also frustrating. I know there is a lot of talk about week 3/4 stalls. Just feeling so discouraged to see a gain when the calories are still very low. It’s hard not to be frustrated and sad. I have spent the last year watching accounts on Instagram where women have described weight just melting off every week. I knew I was always a slower loser, but I thought this procedure would be a game changer. Anyone else feeling like this?

My MIL had her bypass surgery in her 60s and that was in 2010. She is doing fabulous and it has definitely added years to her life. Her surgeon is the one who preformed my sleeve surgery earlier this month. I was approved to be off work for 3 weeks, but I know I could have gone back sooner. I have a desk job. I go back this Wednesday. Make sure you do take the time off you need to heal and to adjust to your new eating schedule. I honestly think getting back to work will help me with that schedule. I know I have had a harder time getting my liquids in. Good luck. I hope your daughter can be supportive. I just know I am thankful my MIL’s is thriving after her surgery and look forward to the same for myself. Good luck 😊 -
Hello, I’m 10 days post op. My question is about the cost of the surgery. Are there any self-pay patients out there? I began this process in January of this year. Started with my local hospital and was given a quote of $35,000 which is due to the pre-op requirements such as psych eval, endoscopy, sleep study, etc. I then reached out to a bariatric center about 5 hours away and they quoted me $25,000 and didn’t require the same pre-op items. I went with this program because the doctor has been doing bariatric surgeries for over 25 years. I prepaid the surgeon $4400 and the hospital said I needed to prepay $19,100. A week after getting home, I am now getting billed an additional $31,000. More than double my quote. They told me those quotes are only estimates and that the cost of the surgery can vary greatly based on complications. The thing is, I had no complications and even was released a day early. They are sending it to the higher ups for them to “review”. This whole thing has been stressful and affecting my recovery. I wouldn’t have had the surgery if I knew it was going to cost me over $54,000 because I wouldn’t have been able to afford it. Just looking for some prices to compare to. I’m in Oregon Thanks!

I got the pills because I was afraid I could not tolerate the chews because presumably they are sweet. I gag with anything sweet. Sadly, I ordered three months worth. I may need to make a trip to the drug store and try different forms. -
Blood thinners after gastric sleeve
Arabesque replied to skinny44's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I only received blood thinners for 24 hrs after surgery & no more so much like @catwoman7 & @SpartanMaker. Just told to walk: little & often & I had to wear compression tight/leggings for a week. But the length of time you are prescribed blood thinners post surgery would be strongly influenced by your specific situation & needs. If you can’t contact your surgeon, maybe speak with your GP. And maybe get some compression tights/leggings if you haven’t any. -
The gas they pump into you during surgery fills the cavity around your organs & not so much into your tummy so most is not passed by farting or burping. Apparently most gets absorbed into the water in your blood & is eventually breathed out. The more you move the more that gas moves & moving helps it escape faster. But, as it often gets trapped under the diaphragm which causes the discomfort & shoulder pain, it hurts more when you move. It’s not uncommon to experience gas pain for a good week after your surgery (I did after my gall removal). But if it persist without improving or gets worse contact your surgeon.

Yes I have spoken to a dietician twice. They saw me after surgery and gave me stage 1 diet plan which was liquids for a week. I miss read it and thought it was 2 weeks. Then purée foods through a straw. When she rang me I was transitioning to soft foods but told her I couldn’t tolerate them. She suggested I go back to see surgeon so he put me back in hospital to investigate and did the ballooning. He suggested liquid diet for the week to help with the surgery he did. The dietician said liquid for the next 5 days then skip puréed and go straight to soft solids.

I got my surgery on 9/20 and would love a buddy/buddies - so far I'm good but the fatigue is no joke. I'm not hungry but I feel week. I have been able to drink and swallow with no issues. Would love to hear about others experience - I had the lapband in 2009, removed last year and the sleeve now. I had a great success with band (down over 70 lbs) but gained that plus more once I started having issues. -

Spent $128US this past week on groceries. It would’ve been less if my coupon for the pumpkins came off and I’d have found a brisket that was smaller. (I only wanted one around 10lbs) Saved around $120US though! With the brisket I’m going to make some corned beef, ground beef, a roast, and marinate some for Korean beef. This time I placed an Amazon fresh order. The caveat with AF is that (at least for me) the minimum order before coupons and deals come off has to be $35 to avoid extra fees so I try to find things I’ll use that have a coupon or discount (hence the chocolate and olive oil) but you really can’t beat $5.54 for 6lbs (2.72kg) of daikon. -
About 7-8 weeks in, you will wake up feeling absolutely wonderful, you really will. Now a year later, I kind of miss the not hungry feeling.

Wasn’t feeling the greatest yesterday or this morning so this was my breakfast- miso soup, chai latte, and black tea with lemon juice. The other day though I made danmuji (Korean pickled daikon radish) The daikon is from my grocery shopping this past week that I didn’t share. -
Suboxone before sleeve?
Julia82 replied to HopefulonLI's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm dealing with this now, surgery Oct 4th and pain management dr who prescribes my subs said do not stop taking them and the surgery team can add short acting pain meds with it and he would be happy to speak with him but surgeon told me 2 days ago he wants me off completely and to take 1mg less a week... Im on 4mg and there is less than 2 weeks so at best I'll be on 2 so I dunno what he was thinking, ive been calling and emailing my pain management dr for days and so far no response so im kinda freaking out at this point I really don't know what to do. -

Blood thinners after gastric sleeve
liveaboard15 replied to skinny44's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I went to the ER about a month after surgery due to severe pain and swelling in my leg. Thought it could be a deep vein thrombosis. They did a ultrasound of the veins in my legs to verify and no clots. But clots in the legs is a very serious issue after any major surgery. I only got blood thinner injections while in the hospital. some more overweight people get a script for them for weeks beyond surgery -
Hi everyone. I found this forum from a friend. I had to have emergency Gastric Sleeve surgery on 25th August as my hiatus had been strangling my stomach. Part of my stomach had died or diseased he said, it was all a blur for me. Anyway it was another kick I needed for weight loss help. I had been going to gym 4 days a week for a month prior to help me loose weight. So on surgery day I weighed in at 103kgs. I didn’t get the chance to do any pre op I have read. I was basically thrown in the deep end. I’ve been on liquid diet since surgery and still could not tolerate soft puréed foods unless it was able to go through a straw. Today ihad to go back for surgery as I had stricture from the hiatus repair and the sleeve done. They removed some scarring and ballooned my oesophagus. So I’m on liquid diets for another week the dr said. I am over the “smoothies”. And puréed fruits/soups. Is this normal?

Anyone Take Suboxone That Is Pre-Sleeve?
Julia82 replied to chele367's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had my pre op appointment with the surgeon, surgery is Oct 4th so less than 2 weeks away he said he wants me off of them and to take 1 mg less a week... im on 4mg... there is 1 week and 4 days... at most I'll be down to 2mg according to his plan I tried to tell him that about 10 times but he didn't listen. My pain management dr who prescribes them to me said to stay on them, his exacts words were... I would recommend that you continue taking the Suboxone "through" surgery (not stopping it) and then if additional pain control is needed after (which it will be) the team can add some short-acting medications on top. If the surgery team would like to discuss that with me, no problem. I've messaged him a few times to ask him to talk to him but hes not responding, called asked for his nurse she wasnt there so the receptionist took a very detailed message about my siruation and how urgent it is and they said to expect a call today and no call. I don't want to stop taking it if I'm not supposed to but the surgeon was really against the use of it to treat pain but when my oxys and percs constantly needed to be increased to work I said no more and went on a search for a pain management dr willing to prescribe suboxone off label as pain meds. This dr actually does confrences promoting it being a safer alternative for those people like myself who seldom feel like I need something stronger. Recently I've felt like I've needed more after a car accident hopefully that heals because I'd like to keep taking the subs even tho they have ruined my teeth in the 10 years I've been on them. I pray my dr comes through on this and speaks with the surgeon because stopping it and feeling sick for a few days before and then again a few days after just sounds miserable to me, that's one less thing to add to my anxiety that hopefully won't have to be. He's only in the office Mondays you bet you butt I'm calling when they open and again every few hours if he doesn't call or message me back. -
My multivitamin is $27 for a three month supply. My calcium citrate is $12 I think? There's 500 in the bottle, from Costco, so that's a little more than a six month supply for me. Vitamin costs can vary greatly. And as you get further out post op, and get your vitamin/mineral levels checked, the vitamins/supplements that you take can change, depending on what your lab results, so expect a possible change in what supplements you will take and costs to change. My surgeon doesn't recommend the vitamin patches. So I can't comment about those. I'd ask your dietician about the applesauce. Not sure about that. I was on chewable vitamins early post op and had no trouble transitioning to the capsules.

I can't tell you how jealous I am of y'all with plans that move to puree after a week or two, my plan is three weeks of liquids. I'm chomping at the bit for next week when I can move on lol.
