Seriously Worried... Help!
Cookeeeeez replied to SleevedNSweet's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm losing fairly slowly (pre-op) but am already noticing some loose skin that is not tightening up. It's the area above my stomach and under my breasts (I've heard it called the "liver-roll" because it's where your liver fat is stored?!).. Because I've yo-yoed so much I'm not sure if that has helped my elasticity or not but this is the first time I've noticed little wrinkles in the skin where the fat has gone... But, im still sooooo happy! I've had that little roll forever and to know it's leaving me finally, well I don't really mind a few "battle scars" I'm only 25 and I'm taking all the vitamins, skin lotions and oils, weights and crunches, ad infinatum... But I really recommend just loving your changes every day, skin wrinkles and all, because if you hit a scale-stall these changes are what will keep you goin -
Okay, so I was logging my food for the last couple of days (I’m the worst at falling into the habit of logging regularly and find myself playing catch-up a lot) and I realize that I fall into so much repetition in my daily habits. Now I’m not saying that this is necessarily a bad thing, but I’m also thinking that for the best chance of long-term success variety and broadening my palette will be important. I’ve always considered myself a bit of a foodie and love trying new things. I’d love to have a thread here where we all post our fave new recipes or types of foods that we’ve discovered and modifications to previous “unhealthy” foods or dishes to help with weight loss and maintenance along the way. Lol, a girl can only eat so much cottage cheese, tuna packs, and boiled eggs before she gets really bored of her new diet! I’ll start with a new find of mine for the week: These “noodles” are awesome. For the first time since February, I got to have something that reminds me of pasta. So far I’ve eaten them twice. I’ve made “ramen” with beef bone broth, hot garlic sauce and these noodles. Then I made beef “spaghetti” with low carb marinara, lean ground beef, onion, mushrooms, and these noodles. Both dishes were so satisfying and I’m so happy I found this at my local grocery.

2 Week Post Op Protein Diet........My Experience, 5 Days in
Denise73 posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hello everyone, I read so many stories about the 2 week pre-op liquid diet and I was so scared and nervous and didn't think I'd make it. I kept thinking, how in the hell these NUTs and surgeons expect us to eat basically nothing for 2 whole weeks. To the members who've yet to experience this well talked about "2 week liquid Protein diet", let me tell you my experience and hopefully it will ease your mind and give you hope. So I started my protein diet on Monday 6/16 here it is Friday and I'm fine. I must say, it's not as bad as you all think it's going to be. I don't know if it's the types of protein I'm taking but I really really haven't been hungry. Not even head hunger. Mind you I have a 14 year old son I have to either cook or heat up food for every day. I'm allowed 4-8oz Protein shakes a day, sugar free Jello & pudding, 1 -8oz of low carb yogurt, 1-8oz of skim milk, sugar free popsicles and unlimited amounts of non-sugary, non-carbonated, non-caffeinated beverages and broth. I've been having 2-3 shakes and one serving of yogurt at night as dinner and twice I've had a cup of broth and twice I've had a cup of sf jello. I haven't had any headaches/migraines or anything. I have not cheated at all, not a bite, a crumb or a lick of anything. Based on the stories I've read, I've come to the conclusion that it must be the type of protein shakes that are satisfying me and not allowing me to feel hungry. Actually, I have to force myself to have the third shake sometimes. Just like everyone else, the anticipation and the unknown had me failing at the protein diet before I even began. I have to tell you though, the two times I felt weak was when I over did it at the gym and yesterday when I went too long (about 9 hours) without a shake. Other than those two times I was/am good. I just bought my son some McDonalds and I didn't even take a french fry. I used to always have at least two of his fries. I'm working at home today and you couldn't tell me I wasn't going to be home all day and not eat something I wasn't supposed to. Nope not at all. I had one Protein Shake and two sf popsicles. So I'm saying all this to say, please don't stress over this 2 week protein diet. It may or may not be as bad as you think. I wanted to post this because I wish I read something like this before I started because I might not have stressed it as much as I did. Good luck to those of you who will be on the diet soon. I am so sorry this is so long but I needed to post my experience in its entirety. Denise73 -
when i traveled a couple of weeks ago I packed some starkist snack kits and bumble bee chicken salad kits - both were in my carry on and I had no problems. I also found muscle milk lite in the airport. I also just to make sure packed a Protein shot - it was a little bottle less than 3oz and I got it at GNC I also packed a couple of packages of cream of wheat and oatmeal - you can always get hot Water at a restaurant.

Nope no problems drinking. I am heading home in the morning which is 3 1/2 hours away, but am scheduled for another fill in two weeks. I will wait it out. Thanks!

Wow. I remember my post like yours almost three years ago. More than two years out from surgery and 17 months at goal weight of 21.8 BMI, I am happy with my choice. Best wishes on your journey! Lynda

Banded 7/29 GUILTY!!! and hating myself!!!
LisaB411 replied to Debski's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The reason you aren't supposed to eat a lot of food in the first weeks after surgery isn't really about weight loss. It's about allowing yourself to heal. You most likely have some internal stitches that need to heal. By eating too much you put stress on those stitches and can hurt yourself. If your doctor told you to eat liquids or mushy food, listen to him/her. If you are allowed to eat regular food, take it easy for a few weeks. -
Banded 7/29 GUILTY!!! and hating myself!!!
BellaPerdente replied to Debski's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Please remember, you might not feel restriction, but at only 9 days out, you are still healing. You need to be on full liquids for at least another week and then to mushies. Your stomach is not healing if it has to digest that food. I wanted to eat also but I keep telling myself that I paid alot of money for this and I HAVE to change my habits. You have to work with the band. The band can't do all the work for you. Go back to full liquids and give your stomach more time to heal. Good luck. -
Has anyone changed there eating before surgery?
jenfromtheburgh replied to neesh's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I worked really hard to change my eating before the surgery. I am scheduled for October 14th. I started the process in April and there are many requirements with my doctor including losing 10% of your body weight before surgery. For me that was 28 pounds. As of now, I have lost 30. So I have been eating more fruits and veggies, less snacks. I have also cut out soda as you cannot have that after surgery. That was most difficult for me as I love diet pepsi. The first week was hard, I actually had headaches from the cafeine withdrawl but it has gotten better. When I started the process, I had to attend an orientation session and they stated "Live your life today as if you have had the surgery". I found that to be a very powerful statement and have tried to follow it. I have hit bumps along the way but I feel that I am prepared and ready for my surgery. -
I am 2 months out and eat finely chopped tomatoes 1/4 cup with 1 oz of meat for both lunch and dinner. I am very satisfied. According to my paperwork at week 7 my surgeon says we can have a regular diet. It's funny I have always been a salad lover however, right now I am just craving the tomato.

Its My 4Th Week Since Surgery And Feeling Hungry !
kcsmicah replied to hamanyq8's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have been eating Chinese take out since about 3 weeks so you should be fine. Just stay away from anything fried, with rice or noodles or anything with a real sugary sauce. I tend to lean towards chicken egg foo young or Mongolian beef. -
Kiana.....you poor, poor thing. I'm complaining about having to do 2 weeks fluids post op! I agree with everyone one else...."winge" all you want, goodness knows I would.

I hear you Brother, I have the same issue, but I have so many aches and pains they all blend into one another, I'm approaching 30 days post Op. July 14 was when I got sleeved, The past 10 days it's hurt a lot less but the first few weeks it was almost unbearable, I did all I could do to avoid the pain but I also didn't want to baby it, so i eased into a little more movement each day, BUT like they say,We are all different. Best of Wishes

2 weeks since surgery
bandfun4me replied to bearbelly's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
At 2 weeks post op, the first thing I see is the Baked potato. A lot of drs are different. We were given specific instructions on how to eat and what to eat. first 2 weeks clear and full liquids, weeks 3 &4, High protein foods Puree'd, nothin gstringly, plenty of fluids, 80 oz.plus Protein shakes, protein up around 60-90. EVERy DAY. No white carbs, no pizza, not even WW bread It took me about 7 months before I was brave enough to eat Pzza topping. Tried WW bread at 6 months, paid dearly for that. 6 hrs stuck. Contact your nutritionist, get suggestions. You are still in the healing stages. You now have a band around the stomach. heal and let the stitches set, walk and learn how to make menus during this time. Not to mention the 5 glasses of wine. I bet that blew you away , not having any solids to soak up that alcohol. Dont get me wrong, I like to splurge as well. I had to fight to get this band and I think that nothing taste as good as thin feels. I am 14 months out, down to a size 6/8 and I did not get here by eating like a normal person. l have had lots of temptations. and some I have given into. You need to get things in order if you are going to make this band help you lose any weight at a steady rate. Take this time slowly, make menus , learn how to eat slowly, lean how to eat good healthy foods. It's a tool, not a miracle. I am at the gym 5x week, walk 4 miles 7 x week , muscle is the name of the game. If you are not moving, you're not losing. Use that energy. Good luck. -
Type 1 Diabetes/Insulin Pump and LBS
Matt S replied to harbottled's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am an RN and also have type 1 diabetes with an insulin pump. I have had an insulin pump for over 5 years and love having one. It is by far the best treatment plan I have utilized in treating my diabetes. I have lost over 120 pounds since getting my band last year in September. What I did to control low blood sugars was to set my temporary basal rate to hardly anything for about an hour. I checked my blood sugar sometimes 15 times per day or more if I needed to. I found my basal needs to have dropped by half and most importantly I am using a night basal rate which is much lower than before. Definitely keep some type of juice around for lows. I also had low blood pressure issues for several weeks to months post op. I found that I really could not tolerate any my blood pressure medications and they needed to be stopped altogether. I would not be discouraged by the postings you read. I have found the band to work as long as you are willing to do what it takes to make it work. -
I am always joking when the cat walks on a phone and it dials that they are calling out for pizza! I wanted to make sure you know that even a little splenda or any artificial sweetener is toxic to dogs and cats and can actually kill them. Their livers cannot metabolize it. My dog looks so mournful now at not even being able to taste the shakes! Wonderful first post- welcome to the forum! As with above I want to make sure you know Cheech could die if he has artificial sweetener of any kind- his liver will not metabolize it- this means splenda, nutrsweet, aspatamane and xylitol- absolutely lethal to animals. Here's hoping your date comes soon! I am two weeks post op and love my sleeve. I also do You Tubes if you need some encouragement.

I was wondering if anyone else has problems with anxiety since surgery? I have been banded since Jan 12th and have lost 85 pounds. I have been having a lot of anxiety in the past few months and some weeks it is EVERY day! Today was one of the worst days in a long time. I was in Disneyland and all excited to get into the park and had a mental list of all the things to accomplish before going home at 2pm. Well, at 10am it started. We rode two rides and had to quit. I went full on attack at about 11 and it has been going on with little relief for almost 10 hours. The first 6 hours were MISERABLE. I have an appointment with my regular doctor and hope that he can help, on Thursday. Anyone else have these "issues"?

Surgery Scheduled for August 15th and I have questions
patrick posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgery is scheduled for August 15th and I would love to talk with others who have been through the process. Bottom line, I am wanting to know what to expect a couple of days after the procedures, a week, 2 weeks, etc. Will I be hunger? In pain? The surgery is on Friday and my doctor told me if I felt like it I could return to work (desk job) on Tuesday. Is that realistic? -
Is there such a thing as too much cheese? I'm sure there is and it probably isn't a good thing to be eating mainly one food. I fell in love with and seem to crave Laughing Cow and similar spreadable cheeses on top of Wheat Thins. It goes down easily for me and satisfies me. I typically eat about six crackers for breakfast. Some unsweetened apple sauce and cottage cheese for lunch. A Blue Bell round cheese disk or Quest bar for a snack and focus on some sort of protein for dinner. I feel like I am constantly eating. I am 7 weeks out, down 45 since pre-op (10 days before surgery) 35 since surgery. BMI of 39 before surgery, 35 now. Anyone else get stuck in a rut with food? Should I try to add more variety or continue to eat what I can? When I asked my surgeon he said he wants me to drink one or two protein shakes a day. I struggle with nausea and protein shakes, no matter the brand or flavor, turn my stomach.

Psych Test...whats Involved?
JerseyGirl68 replied to ShrinkyDinkMe22's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I did mine a few weeks ago and I felt exactly the same way.. Not too nervous, just an unknown. The doctor I went to relaxed me instantly. There was a written questionaire, very simple questions to I suppose gauge your relationship with food, your body image and if you have impulse issues, or issues with depression or addiction (other than food). Alot of the questions are repetitive but asked in a different way. The "interview" was a history of my weight issues as well as getting info on my support system. He stressed the importance of asking questions either to him/surgeon or using the boards. He felt these forums were essential to working through the process. Don't worry, its' pretty quick and painless.
