Whoa! Did the doc tell you it was ok to eat a cup and a half of food?? Your stomach is swollen and numb so don't look for that full feeling just yet especially with things like yogurt. You should be measuring and eating only a certain amount the first weeks. For most of us it's 1/4 cup at a time.. You are a man? Your stomach is probably naturally bigger than mine but 1 1/2 cups is to much.

If You've Had Duodenal Switch Surgery Share...
Postop replied to Elisabethsew's topic in Duodenal Switch Surgery Forum
Yes, And the dietician working with the bmi. They tod me it was probably because I wasn't getting enough copper which I've increased my intake of. I just meant that it's been my biggest struggle, the falling I mean. The protein they told me would probably get better over time. Interesting. I take a lot of copper because I need a lot of zinc (which I poop out). So the copper balances the zinc. I hope they're keeping a close watch on your copper via your blood work. Perhaps you'd consider using a cane until things go back to normal. You don't want to be falling. As for the protein, they're probably right. I drank 1 shake per day for the first 2 years as I couldn't eat enough. Have your tried other things than meat to supplement your protein: chicken, yogurt, fish, cheese, nuts, etc.? -

Actually I drink two protein shakes and snack on nuts daily, I did try fish and chicken, chicken when I eat it more often then once in a while leaves me feeling very bloated even in small amounts. fish just made me nauseous. I had a black bean burger the other day which went fine. cheese if I eat more then a thin slice causes some problems. Any suggestions for recipes? -
Poll: Did you start solids early? ... of so, how early?

Just for a different perspective... my doctor (very highly regarded, Center of Excellence, not a quack!!) allows her patients to start eating on day 4 (surgery day is day 1) I was allowed soft proteins... chicken, turkey, eggs, refried beans, low sugar yogurt, low fat cheese and cottage cheese. I had no negative repurcussions, my doctor has a very low complication rate, and it made me very happy because I really didn't feel hungry. My friend did feel hungry, and she called the nutritionist and was allowed to add soft fruits and soft vegetables. The thought of being on liquids as long as some people are makes me nuts! I don't know how you guys do it. -
I had my surgery 7/1 and came home feeling great....then I hit week 3 I was throwing up all the time. It was horrible!! I was scared to eat anything...I have been living on applesauce and Greek yogurt. Starting to come around now!! Thank goodness

I've been hitting it most days. I'm 2 mos out also. Here's whay gets me to the number we need. Breakfast: protein bar 20 gm of protein. Morning snack: string cheese. Lunch: 2 oz chicken. Afternoon snack: Greek yogurt. Dinner: 2 oz chicken. Yes , I know I'm not getting any veggies yet but I can't meet every goal.... if I eat some veggies I can't get enough of the meat in so I have veggies some days not always. I think as time goes by we'll be able to fit more in.

Blender necessary?
mylighthouse replied to heylizzyclay's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Are you already on pureed food? If so, I was able to do very well mashed carrots (mash till they are mush), same with any other soft veggie that can be mashed. But about the only veggie I had on pureed were carrots, trying to keep carbs low. I also had very well mashed canned chicken on the pureed stage.... just mashed it with a fork and added a little mayo or yogurt to it, to make it a little like chicken salad. There are also some ricotta bake recipes out there for the pureed stage... the one I tried (and it was great) can be found at theworldaccordingtoeggface.blogspot.com. She also has some other recipes for the different stages including pureed. If you are eating cottage cheese on the pureed stage, you don't need to mash it. So my opinion is that you don't really need the blender on the pureed stage, unless you are eating veggies or other foods that can't be mashed to a smooth consistency. -

Help! Does Anyone Actually Plan Meals?
joyful noise replied to DeterminedGirl's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I went shopping for things like Protein to see what I liked. I made a list of foods I really like and made a shopping list. Then I came home and took a calendar, one day at a time, and put my foods on the calendar. Since I am not the only one cooking, it helps whoever is cooking, to get things ready the night before. I did use the nut's advice about how many servings of protein, dairy, etc. when making shopping list. Since I hate milk, I opted for plain non-fat greek yogurt and added my own fresh fruit. -
Post surgery full liquids.
cajun replied to excited2lose's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I loved greek yogurt, cream soups, Jay Robb shakes made with lactaid milk, and home made soups that I pureed in my blender, during the full liquid stage. -
@@brittanylau You could add some veggies and fruits or healthy fats (avocado). My plan recommends protein/produce. Add a high Protein snack but avoid processed meats (too much sodium). Stick with grilled chicken, fish, greek yogurt (watch the sugar content), cheese, tuna, etc for protein. My NUT told me I should be eating 5-6 times a day - with about 3 hours in between - focusing on protein and then produce (veggies, fruit, sweet potato). Of course, I'm still pre-surgery so don't know how I will do either. Stay off the scale, take your measurements and keep on plan - you'll be fine!

I had no idea about this, thank you. Ok, so then really, the only thing that was an "issue" was the sugars in the yogurt? I'll have to ask my nutritionist tomorrow when I see her about how she wants me to track fruits. I've been just looking at the grams of sugars, not the ingredients.
-
You will be surprised once you start reading the ingredients. I just looked at a yogurt the other day. I thought the sugar was from the strawberries, but no, it had "cane sugar" listed. There is so much added sugar in everything. It's ridiculous.

Full liquids for 1 more week I am eating basically jello, pudding, chicken broth, beef broth, cream of chicken soup, carnation instant breakfast, yogurt and sugar free Popsicles...I tried eggs whites a couple of times but they didn't sit well...is there things I am missing that I don't know about lol? -
I would check with your dr recommendation but I have had yogurt since my surgery. That is what they served me on day 2 in the hospital. NO fruit or chunks is the criteria for the yogurt. Are you still on a mostly clear liquid diet? Again check with your Dr but I can give you the run down of the list of acceptable food I have if you want
-
Its amazing to see the different liquid diets people are on. I WISH my doc would allow me to have yogurt. I have my one week follow up tomorrow, and I pray that by some miracle my doc says "go ahead and have some yogurt" I'd be so happy, I'd cry!
-
I believe they do that during surgery but they did make sure that I could pee, walk around some as well as eat a little food without too much issue. I had some yogurt and potatoes. Sent from my SM-F700U using BariatricPal mobile app

I am 3 wks post op is sushi ok? My NUT said I could have eggs and yogurt is sushi soft enouhh with no rice??

Swanson makes flavored broth. They have flavors such as Tortilla, Hot&Sour, Cajun, chicken Tuscan. These add a little variety and I put a scoop of unjury chicken Soup in with them to get protien. Yasso yogurt bars which can be found in the freezer section. I like the vanilla carmel, choclate and strawberry. Dannon 80 calorie yogurt is very good. I take half of a yogurt and put it on top of 1/2 of a sugar free Jello cup. banana yogurt and cherry jello is yummy. If you crave spicy a v-8 virgin mary is good: 1 cup v-8, hot sauce, lime juice, celery salt, worchester sauce and pepper G2 gatorade and iced tea with fresh lemon is my go to drink.

Tips n Tricks- Snack Advise Please?!?
monkeymama replied to mrslamica's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I agree with others about the Protein. I keep a Protein Bar in my purse all the time for "emergencies" and I also keep Protein drinks at both of my offices. When I do snack (which isn't often- I was a grazer preband so have to try to not snack) some better choices have been: trail mix (nuts and a little chocolate), cheese sticks, 100 calorie snack packs, a spoon of Peanut Butter and yogurt. I have made bad choices too-everyday is a learning process for me. -
70? I guess different doctors recommend different amounts? My doctor said to shoot for 45 grams for non menstruating women and 55 for those who are menstruating. I eat a lot of chili - thats great protein! (large chili at wendy's has 28 grams) Also you can buy non flavored Protein powder at walmart and put it in anything...applesauce, yogurt, shakes, etc. I like to make a choc Peanut Butter shake with my herbalife choc mix, a tablespoon PB2 (powdered peanut butter - can use regular lowfat) and then add extra protein - it is like a heavenly chocolate dessert and I feel like I am getting something fabulous like dairy queen. LOL I use the vanilla herbalife shake and put in frozen fruit, skim milk, and extra Protein Powder, too. I know they tell us not to drink a lot of our protein - but I cannot eat more than a cup at a time and even then sometimes I can't eat much - so this is the only way I can get in my protein....and since I hit my "sweet spot" I am never hungry anyway... Good luck to you! Kim

My doc has said 60-70 as well for protein intake. I plan 1 snack a day but again that was his instruction. I do have the unflavored protein powder from GNC. I do my best to get most of it via food .. eggs, quiche, tuna, cottage cheese greek yogurt however also add it to the cottage cheese, tuna, even DD ice tea.. it litterally has no flavor so I can make almost anything high in protein.
