I feel like im never going to feel normal again..
Leesa in MD posted a topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Hi everyone. I am 25 days post op and it has been the worst 25 days my life. I'm not able to keep anything in my system. Everything runs right through me. I've done everything my nutritionist and surgeon have said to do but I still can't make it 20 minutes without running to the restroom. I feel like I always have a lump of something stuck in my throat even if I haven't had anything to eat. I'm tired all the time. I cannot tolerate protein shakes anymore, they make me gag. I don't even know what to eat anymore. I've tried everything I'm allowed. I haven't had much of anything but water in the last 3 days. I returned to work on Monday and Tuesday but had diarrhea so bad the rest of the week I couldn't make it in. I feel like I have made the wrong decision. I haven't even been focused on my weight because I can't move past everything else. I'm so discouraged and depressed. I see my doctor today but I'm not sure what she is going to tell me that she hasn't already said. Am I ever going to feel normal again? ???? -
Oh yes, I LOVE Zumba! Wasn't sure if it was to early for Zumba. How many weeks post op are you? I will send a message to my doctor to see if I can start that now. I hope so! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

I had my VSG 8 days ago. I was very active before surgery, and attribute that, at least partly, to my quick recovery. I knew I would not get a lot of calories from the time I started my liquid diet (3 days pre-op) and for weeks post-op. But it is really hitting me how little my body is getting! I struggle to get more than 200-300 calories a day, even with Protein drinks. The past couple days I have been feeling really weak! My doctor said I shouldn't be getting more than 500 calories/day for the first 2 months. I have 3 young children, a part-time job, and love being active, but I don't know how to do it all with such low energy. I am taking my Vitamins, drinking about 50 oz of Water, and getting in about 45 grams of protein (That's all I can fit in my stomach at this point in recovery), and getting enough sleep. I just want to sit/lie down all day. How do you all do it?

Such low calories, such low energy
JamieLogical replied to 24601's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The fatigue is a real issue the first few weeks. You are healing and recovering from major surgery, which obviously consumes a lot of energy, and you aren't getting many calories in. I promise you that it WILL get better. Once I was up around the 600-800 calorie mark once I was back on solid foods, I felt pretty human again. Once you can get up above 1000, you should be able to be active and work out intensely and still have energy to live your life. -
Trouble in paradise...may need to call surgeon
lf1227 posted a topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Hi there! I need advise on what to tell my doctor, if I need to call him. So I'm 70lbs down, 55 from surgery which was April 5th 2017...3.5 months ago. Everything has been great, I can eat meat and veggies and usually have no problem unless I eat too fast or drink water too soon which has only been a couple of times. I've inky been bad with my vitamins and water which I know is major, but I am trying very hard to get my **** together when it comes to that. I haven't been to a check up with my surgeon since May. Problem: I had my period this week and with that I get bloat, cramps, gas and constipation- it's real fun! Not lol. On Friday or Saturday I noticed my tummy kinda hurt or felt full really fast so I took it easy. I did have a medium glass of champagne because after 3 months you can have carbonated beverages but I don't do it on the regular. Then on Sunday I noticed that feel was lingering and now Monday and it's still lingering although I haven't eaten yet. Is it possible that maybe I am partially backed up (BM seems reg)? It's almost like on the other end it feels like I am backed up and my stomach is kind of full although like I said I haven't eaten. I am very nervous to tell my Dr. And have to do more tests or x rays and I'm even more scared that I've hurt my ouch jn some way because I do my best to respect It! I don't think I am allowed to take real laxatives anymore but colace seems to do nothing, any suggestions please? Sent from my SM-G950U using BariatricPal mobile app -

How could I have been so stupid?

I discussed what happened with my doctor and nutritionist yesterday at my 6 week check up. You were right @@blashlee, I probably had a temporary blockage. I had not idea -- I don't remember being told about that. I agree with you @@Tomojac, I will miss corn this year, but believe me it's not worth it! But the good news, this shouldn't be forever. -
Advice/Suggestions for Reducing Anxiety
Christy-Lynn posted a topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Hey everyone! I just joined the site about a month or so after discovering it. I first considered weight loss surgery about 6 years ago. It was put on hold for varying reasons. Last year, I finally decided to move forward, then COVID hit. My first choice was the Lap Band, but after reading personal experiences on this site and others, I changed my mind. Also, my surgeon was willing to do the procedure, but he had made clear it typically was not as successful and had more long term complications (erosion, slippage, etc) than the sleeve or bypass. After scheduling an appointment to further discuss my options and the pros and cons of each type of surgery, I will now be having the gastric bypass procedure. Surgery is scheduled for next week (May 18th). I'm excited and also nervous. I have mild anxiety, but it's controlled without medication and I see my therapist occasionally. For anyone with anxiety, how did you limit nervous or anxious feelings prior to surgery? -
you'll likely hit several stalls along the way. If you're following your plan, then that's what's going on now. Like you did the first time, stick to your plan and stay off the scale for a few days. Your weight loss will start up again.

I was VERY VERY tired and weak...... unfortunately I ended up having a GI bleed in my 2nd week out from surgery. I think because of that I was my exhaustion was magnified. I'm one month out today and feel a lot better - each day my energy is markedly increased !!! Hang in there

I am 3 weeks post op and up until today have been feeling great. I haven't used any pain medication since the first week and have been walking 1-2 mikes/day with no problems. All of the sudden today my stomach is tender and I get random sharp pains when I move wrong. There are no other symptoms and I am not having any issues with my puréed diet. Any thoughts? Hello everyone! I am having my surgery on Mary 29th with dr. Ponce de leon. I am so nervous about going down to Mexico, I was hoping someone would be down there around the same time with the same doctor or coordinator of Trish. Anyway, hope you all have a good week! Lots of love, Alex

Worried About Pre-Op Weight Loss
Half~of~Bri posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgery is 2 weeks from tomorrow. My surgeon doesn't do the liquid diet so I'm just on a really restricted low cal/low fat/low EVERYTHING tasty diet I've lost 15 lbs. so far. My fear is this won't be enough to make a significant difference in my liver size before surgery. I'm hoping to lose more before surgery but my weight loss slowed down a lot once I hit about 14 lbs. How will I know if I've done enough? I have a pre-op appointment with my surgeon and the hospital tomorrow and I'm not sure what to expect from that or if I'll have to do liquids in the last few days before surgery either. -
MISERY wanting Company...
ElfiePoo replied to HappyMe2009's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Why wait a month? If you're still able to eat to excess and hungry, call them up and tell them you want another fill. Mine will do them every 2 weeks. My first fill was 3cc and second fill was 3cc and I didn't have any restriction after my fills (not even temporary) until I had about 7.5cc. Now at 8.5 (in a 12cc band) I think I have restriction...or at least still do 5 days after my fill. . -
So my WLS started when I found out I had PCOS. Basically it was a wake up call that if I ever wanted kids then I needed to get healthy and be pro-active. Fast forward 1.5 years. I had my gastric bypass 9/30/14 and am down from 330lbs to roughly 220lbs. Huge success for 8ish months but still not exactly where I want to be. Right now I am struggling with the "I am about to be 30 and still havent had a baby" phase of my life. Logically I know I have a ways to go before my journey is complete and it is recommended to wait minimum 18 months before getting pregnant, but the depression this realization has caused is stalling me and setting me back. Its just really hard to reconcile what your head wants and knows versus what your heart is yearning for. I dont really feel like I can express these feelings to anyone else and I am not sure if I am alone in this but to at least feel like I can put it out there, somewhere... well that helps some.

Weigh yourself once a week. Take what ever it says. I had a 5 week stall at 2 months out. You will get there eventually if you keep with the program.
