  1. A friend of mine highly recommends Bariatric Advantage. She had bypass surgery a few months back. I do think it’s weird that she’s insisting you order Unjury. I went over my paperwork and it mentions whey protein isolate powders and shakes and listed some brands but in the end I can choose what ever I want as long as it has at least 25 grams of protein. So I’m basically taking the long way to say don’t let them push you around and oh by the way we are surgery twins!

    Choosing between surgeries

Im only 40 days out from sleeve but no problems and down 35lbs already. I preferred bypass bc my mom is 15 years out, i thought bypassers lost more weight and faster, and i believed bypass had less "failed" patients... but my doc said the "failed percentage" is only a bit lower for bypassers, i was self pay and my husband didnt want to spend 25k instead of 17k for bypass instead of sleeve. Also, my surgeon doesnt do bypass on former smokers bc he doesnt believe they will stop for good and bypass has even worse risks and complications due to smoking so I went with sleeve.i questioned myself a million times about rny vs sleeve until i had it. Now im glad i chose sleeve:) Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app
  3. Hi all, I had my sleeve revised to bypass on Monday, 8/31. I am 4 days in and weigh more than I did on surgery day. Is this still surgical fluids? I’m following my Stage 1 plan to the letter and frustrated.
  4. Yes. I had a long road with my bypass that eventually was reversed and now I am back 2 years later for a different type. When the doctor told me the above he used the example of a weight lifter. He said that PS was the type of protein drink that a weight lifter would drink the night before his workout as it takes that long to digest and be useful to his system. HE then would get up the next day and workout and get the full benefit of the product for his system. He said you don't have that luxury with the bypass as it will pass through leaving you with little to no protein benefit. I was loosing my hair hand over fist and I was spending a fortune on those drinks being the perfect patient and then finally after low potassium and other health issues and a strong talking to myself we found part of the culprit in using PS.
  5. My doctor at one time used premier solution but stopped after further investigation. One of the reasons you should use simply whey protein and have to be careful is the amount of time it takes to digest the specific protein type. When I was a gastric bypass patient as you all well know your body only allows a specific amount of time to digest the food and the it passes through quickly a lot faster then a regular stomach. The whey protein that is no isolate takes to long to digest and therefore it passes through before the body as a chance to benefit from the protein. Therefore you are counting the shake into your daily protein allotment but you are not actually getting it. I learned the hard way about this. Unjury is a great product and the ones I have tried do taste good. Not sure about other products.
  6. I hit my one year on 8/28, so crazy how fast time flies! Anyway, I exceeded the goal my surgeon set by two lbs on my official one year appointment. His goal for me was 175, I was 173, my lowest I recorded at home is 171. I went from 275 at my initial consult, 265 at my pre-op to now and it's insanely crazy how fast and how much I've lost. They said that women rarely lose 100% of their excess weight and even rarely do they do it in the first year so I'm thrilled! My only regret is not doing this sooner, I feel so amazing! Jeans: 24-->8 Tops 2/3XL-->M/L Bra: 42C-->36B/C I have also signed up for a half marathon! I'll be running the Disney Star Wars half in April and I cannot wait! My only "problem" to date is that I cannot tolerate pork well. Even the smallest amount makes my stomach hurt. It's also wreaked havoc on my period and not in a good way. I have suspected endometriosis so that could be playing a part as well but most of my problems in that regard have been since my bypass.
  7. Hi there. I had bypass on 6/17. Our situations sound very similar. 220 pre surgery, 200 at surgery, current weight 171 and goal 125. I’m 5’1”. Also had a hernia repair. I’ve tolerate most things I’ve eaten but have been sensitive to dairy. Issues I’ve experienced so far is constipation, really bad gas and some water aversion especially in the morning. Also experiencing some mood changes. Otherwise all has been pretty good. I’m 7 weeks post op and starting to walk/exercise!! For the most part I feel great and I’m pleased that I am down 2 sizes already!!

    Choosing between surgeries

I am on the fence about this as well. I started out wanting the sleeve, but now think the bypass is a better option.
  11. Hello bypassers, hope everyone is doing well. I'm 11 weeks post-surgery and just had my 3-month follow-up appointment with the Nurse Practitioner at my surgeon's office. After this I'm transitioning to a bariatrician, the doctor that I'll see annually for blood work etc. But that's not until December. I also have to see the nutritionist again in October. Anyway! I honestly can't believe that I'm almost halfway to my first goal. My hormones are weird as hell. I'm getting hot flashes again, even worse than before surgery. Those two months post-op with no hot flashes were heaven! Oh well. I went back on black cohosh, which seems to help. But as far as the hunger hormones go, I'm still doing well - I still almost never feel truly hungry. I do have the odd craving, but they're easily satisfied with a small quantity of something, like a teaspoon of ice cream, a piece of fruit, or a few cocoa-dusted almonds. I'm still eating tiny amounts, my stomach has apparently not stretched at all yet, though it does seem to be healed enough that I can eat whatever I want and don't have to restrict myself to soft foods etc. I make and drink that high-protein iced coffee every morning, and then eat lots of dairy and protein throughout the day, but I still only get up to about 60g most days. It will just have to be enough! Same deal with fluids, I can hit 50oz on most days but there's just not room enough for more than that. My biggest problem right now is my left shoulder, which is frozen. My right was frozen two years ago and I saw an ortho, went through PT, etc. It's completely recovered, and I know what to expect this time but it still sucks - frozen shoulder is SO FREAKING PAINFUL. And now I can't take NSAIDS ever again, which is um...difficult. So I'm doing stretches and strengthening exercises with bands, and then using ice, heat, and self-pity to deal with it. HA! I hope you're all feeling good and staying safe.

    Surgery done today

I just had my Gastric Bypass Monday, August 31 and today was the first day I could actually sip a little water. I was in an awful lot of pain in the recovery room. I was sick and it felt like a knife was stuck in my chest. I was in recovery a while as my heart went into AFib. Needless to say I am now home and it’s still painful to sip water. I’ve been walking and the gas seems to be subsiding. I pray things get better soon. 😩

    Anyone for September 2020?

So I had the Gastric Bypass yesterday and Tbh my pain has not been too bad. I am on a shake and water diet for 5 hours until I can get sent home and I’m not gonna lie it is kind of hard to get them down within 15mins of each other because you will feel full. Then in between that I have to walk. But I was drugged up after surgery for a quite awhile. But so far not too bad at all! Also I see someone asked about how long for clear liquids. My doctor is making me do two weeks of clear liquids and shakes then my diet will advance.
  15. Getting pregnant so soon after surgery is one of the reason I’m having to get a revision now. If I had to do it all again, I’d have the child then the surgery unless it was dangerous for me to do so. Having a baby really changes your diet, body, and limits the time truly needed to dedicate yourself to a healthier you in the beginning. If you have the surgery first, I would wait at least 3-4 years before having a child.

    Choosing between surgeries

comorbities. if you have something called diabetes/prediabetes its more likely to resolve after bypass than sleeve statistically. I have gerd which is a counter indication for sleeve- it can get worse with sleeve. Consider you body's specific conditions so you can come out with best health

    All the DS Switch friends

I haven't had it but would have considered it if my insurance would have covered it (they didn't - they just covered sleeve and bypass). It's the most powerful of the common WLS surgeries - but there's a greater chance of malabsorption that there is with the bypass, so it's even MORE important to keep on top of your supplements. Most people I know of who've had it (although there aren't many I know who have...) have been really happy with it, though.

    All the DS Switch friends

I am getting ready to revise to DS from sleeve. I don’t know how many DS people we have on here, although I think it is starting to get slightly more popular.
  23. Hey everyone! It's been a crazy year! I was supposed to have surgery in March, however, in February I changed jobs and got different insurance. When this happened, I could no longer have surgery at my chosen surgery clinic (only one my previous insurance covered). Turns out, they lost medicaid/medicare capabilities, and went under shortly after! They're completely closed, which blows me away. Anyway, I have struggled getting my info in front of the bariatric coordinator at the new location. I finally did last week! She had gotten everything from the previous clinic before the closed (thank god!!) so I don't have to go through everything all over again! I did have to get the psych to send my results to her so she could send it to her psych. That finally happened last night. Now, I'm looking at surgery VERY soon... like within a couple weeks. WOW! I'm so afraid to get my hopes up, because this hasn't gone well so far lol I'm glad it has taken a detour. I've started back to school, spent an amazing summer with my kids going on vacation. But now I'm ready to get it done. Also, my previous plan was gastric sleeve, but in the additional time, I have chosen gastric bypass. So I guess stay tuned!

Little Weight Loss on Pre-OP & None Post-Surgery

Definitely sounds like IV fluids. I went in for a VSG to RNY revision (hernia and GERD) on 8/11 and weighed 212. I spent 4 days in the hospital on IV fluids. I had my first post op on 8/19 and weighed 215. Just stick with it and trust the process. You will lose weight.

    Surgery done today

Had surgery on 28th of August. 3 hour surgery. Dr told my husband he repaired a haital hernia he found beside the gastric bypass procedure. Was on Strict NPO till x ray next day to show no leaks. Gave me liquids and tolerated it. At first I forgot about taking small sips, luckily I did not have any effect but could feel the liquid bubbling so I stopped drinking. I walked and deep breath on incentive spirameter to avoid pneumonia and to open up my lungs. No pain, but had abdominal discomfort. Gas pass and felt relieved each time. Now on my 4th day, sipping liquid slowly , but I notice my new tummy likes liquid green smoothie so I named my new tummy Greenie. I have no appetite and smell of food does not bother me. But little Greenie does not like too much liquid at one time. Abdominal discomfort is decreasing each day. Started with weight 200 lbs, today 185 lbs. I am making sure my liquids are Bariatric shakes with protein and I sip all day long. Thus far little Greenie likes it. Vitamins are patches from BariatricPal.
