My band has seemed very tight in he last week. I've got 4cc in it. Am scheduled to go to surgeon on Thursday. Will not be getting a fill. I've read others have a right band during hot weather? I can't think what else could be causing it. I'm not having problems but have to be very very careful and chew tons. (This is new in the past week). So I'm guessing it's the weather or a very delayed response to my last fill 4 weeks ago.

How far along post op are you? I'm just wondering because your lungs are more susceptible to infection after surgery. I had a nasty upper respiratory infection 2 weeks post op and my doctor actually sent me for a chest X-ray to ensure I didn't have pneumonia. If you feel really cruddy or have trouble breathing is try to get in to see the doctor sooner. In the interim.. Lots of fluids... I also took Diabetic cold medicine over the counter to help calm the cough. Feel better!

I am still a newbie---only a little a week out of surgery--BUT I can tell you that recovery has been quite easy for me. Following the diet is a challenge---but I just take it day by day, and I know that I MUST follow the diet or I could injure myself---liquids for two weeks prior to surgery, liquids for ten days after surgery, then ten days of pureed foods, then finally onto solid foods. So good luck in your decision! I don't regret it

I think some of us wished we didn't do this surgery right after. . . i was like that for 3 - 4 months, then i just accepted the fact that this wasn't going to go away and i was stuck with it. . .pulled up my big girl panties and dealt with it. . . lol. . . are you sure it's the protein drinks keeping you in the bathroom or the change in your habits and the possible dye coming out from the leak test??? I had the runs for close to 1 month because of that dye. . . i would keep drinking them, you go to the follow up next week anyhow, so just hang in there for a bit more. . . .just my advice, if your vomiting them up, then thats different, then i would definately call the nut. . . .good luck

Isopure has a clear drink with 40 g of protien. They are not the best but if you mix with crystal lite they are alot easier to drink. Being not as heavy as the protien shakes may help you keep them down. It seemed to work for me i could only have clear liquids for the first weak. Week 2 when i was able to have the protien shakes it wasnt any problem.

how long does it take to get everything done and approved for the Gastric sleeve
jbear replied to mommyof6's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I spent at least 2 months doing research, I was adamant on having the lap band done. After learning about the sleeve, I was drawn to it, and then I was against being banded due to many complications that I’ve read others have gone through. Here is my journey: July 8 – Met with surgeon for the first time July 10 – Had upper GI July 18 – Met with dietician July 22 – Scheduled surgery for September 12 July 25 – Received a phone call saying that insurance has approved surgery July 20 – Received insurance confirmation in mail August 21 – Will have a 2-hour class with other soon-to-be-sleevers, to review pre-op liquid diet, what to expect while in the hospital, etc 1st week in September - Will have a pre-op pysical, do blood work, etc September 12 - Surgery date! -

I am on the same boat! Week 2 and I'm clueless on what to eat and have gained 2 lbs. Omg! I dont know if all the fear I feel if normal! -
I was told six weeks for working out but don't know about martial arts. Sounds pretty strenuous and potentially harmful for only four weeks out from major surgery. See what others say about that and more alternatives than walking. Bike riding? Swimming?

I know I'm unlikely to find anyone in my area on here, but thought I would take a stab at it. Had a lifting buddy that has moved to another state, so I could use a lifting partner in the Statesville, NC vacinity if there is anyone on here in this area. My routine varies and I'm pretty flexible in regards to my lifting schedule as long as I can get a few of my basic compound lifts in each week. Also could use a running partner about twice a week. If there's anyone interested, let me know. Thanks!

I had my lap band surgery in October 2005. I initially lost 28 lbs. I have had seven fills since 2005 but I now weigh what I weighed before the surgery. I have cut back to about 1500 calories a day. I can feel more restriction right after a new fill but in a couple of weeks I don't notice the restriced feeling anymore. Has anyone experienced a similiar situation? Thanks JB

Okay, I have been very excited since my insurance company approved my surgery and then the date was set. Now, I am 11 hours away from surgery, and I am starting to have doubts. I have read on some other sites about people dying from the surgery (although the risk is small, i know it is there). I think I should just go to bed now. :notagree Maybe it is the hunger causing my last minute doubts. I have just finished up my 2 week pre-op diet of Protein shakes, SF Jello & chicken broth. Or maybe some doubts are just normal. I know I am just being silly. Everything will be fine and I am just beginning the new me on the road to a healthier life. (and looking better in my jeans won't hurt either). Okay -- my surgery is set for 7:15 am. :clap2::clap2::clap2::clap2::clap2::clap2: You guys have been such a great inspiration. Thanks for all your suggestions.

After a lot of research I have decided to go to Dr. Jaime Ponce for my first consultation, I haven't found a single bad thing about him and he is very experienced. I was wondering for those of you that had him as your doctor did you have to have the 6 month supervised diet? Did he require the 2 week pre-op liquid diet? I don't see him until the middle of next month but I'm trying to find out what to expect. What was your experience with Dr. Jaime Ponce? (Not to be confused with Dr. Ponce De Leon)

I had my preop and all is well but i need my galbladder removed now i'm freaked out. I did not know that i had problems. so next week they take it too. so my questions is what kind of recovery am i looking forward to? healing? will I be sore and can I go back in a week to work? thats what I had planned only one week. i may be able to take 2 more days but my dr( dentist/boss) utilizes me. I guess I do not want any problems with my job and i dont want any issues with healing. any thoughts? -
Yes, I my surgeon was Dr. Stephen Burpee in Tucson. His office is helpful. The surgery was very successful with no complications and didn't take long in the OR either. The best part is the affiliation he has with Northwest Hospital in Tucson (a walk from his office). The weight loss program they have there is great. Tons of infomoration and informational classes to take before the surgery so you know what to expect. An RN by the name of Gail is the head person for the weight loss program and supplies you with a great binder including what to eat at every week, and lots more information like vitamins, protein, exercise, etc. etc. She also visits you after surgery and the day after that. She makes frequent calls to check up after you and tell you what you should be eating, I guess in case you haven't read your binder. I like Dr. Burpee as well. I didn't have a lot of questions for him at all, so I just didn't converse with him much. The seminar he conducts gives you lots of information too. Office visits post surgery are at 2 weeks, 1 month, 3 months, 6 months and yearly after that. He just makes sure you are where you need to be and checks out your blood work. After reading some people here that don't know what to be eating or what they should be doing after a couple of weeks, I realized how fortunate I was to have Dr. Burpee and Gail. If possible, they provide you with TOO much information!!

Vivian, I imagine nerves are completely normal. I had surgery last week and I was incredibly nervous up until surgery day. Don't psych yourself out. Wishing you all the best!

I am still losing about two-three pounds a month. I'm pretty dang small/petite so I'm looking for input from you all about how you arrived at goal? Did your body just stop losing? Did you make an effort to increase calories? I've always said my body will decide. I didn't have a personal goal weight. My surgeon's goal was 170. I'm 140 and 5'2". Size small/x-small and 4 jeans. I work out 5 days a week 60-75 minutes. How I eat and exercise all feels very comfortable and easy to me. I like my lifestyle. It feels healthy and balanced. If I want to go for insurance to cover PS, I have to be stable weight for 6 months! I must be close. If your weight loss slowed down like mine, how long before you stopped losing and found that bounce?

Amazing that you would post this today...I was released from the hospital just this afternoon after complaining about the same pain in the identical location 2 days ago... You should speak with your surgeon about this, which I did, and I had to undergo a battery of tests to rule out a heart attack and blood clot in the lung. So much better to be safe than sorry; peace of mind is a priceless commodity! It required an overnight stay in the hospital, but now I know that the major issues are ruled out, and will follow up with my primary care physician next week.

I Don't Want To Go To The Gym!! But No Work Means No Results!!
Kimberly Collins replied to shrcumm's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
As important as exercise is, it's absolutely untrue that you cannot have results without it. as a matter of fact, unless you work out hours a day, you won't get much weight loss from it. I work out about 5 hours a week at high intensity and end up burning about 2250 a week, which isn't even a pound. You would have to do vigorous exercise for 7 hours a week in order to lose even a lb. Harvard Medical actually did a study that shows it doesn't contribute significantly to weight loss. I exercise so I will feel better and to make my heart and lungs stronger, as it does not help me lose weight at all. I went 3 weeks not working out b/c of an injury and lost the same amount I always do, .5 lbs per week. I always average that much, even in weeks where I have worked out 9-10 hours in the week. -
Disclaimer: We should all follow our own doctors' recommendations. Now: Many of the very, very experienced surgeons have far more liberal schedules about resuming eating. When I got my band, my surgeon had done over 1400 band placements and his diet was ABOUT a week (total) on clear then full liquids. Then progress little by little, to purees, then mushies then solids, over the next two to three weeks. BUT...I don't think ANY surgeon would want you on solids, no matter how well you chew them, two weeks post-op. This time is all about letting the band area heal with the band in place. (I'll do a separate, whiney post about how the surgeons undermine our efforts with unrealistic dietary restrictions.) Good luck, Sue

Old habits die hard. I was banded two weeks ago, and I'm supposed to be on full liquids for another 2-3 weeks. I'm so sad to admit this - but I've been eating some regular food......... nowhere near as much as before and chewing it really well, but now I'm starting to get concerned. I have no restriction and no problem with any kind of food going down. Is it possible to stretch out, or damage, the "new stomach" without knowing it? I don't want to be a failure - again. :D

Do you exercise? Have you lost without it?
green replied to juliegeraci's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I did join a gym last February which was long before I got banded and I found that I actually enjoyed going there. Then two things happened: our very hot humid summer happened and I wasn't going to leave my air-conditioned house except to go to the cottage, and I wrecked my rotator cuff. I got banded in early September and figured that as I wanted to go back to the gym it was time to get my shoulder fixed. Well, I am still going to physiotherapy and am still in pain! I do a lot of walking. I walk home from all my physio appointments. I am losing weight but much, much slower than I would like. Since my operation I have lost 16 lbs, most of it in the early weeks. Part of my problem is that I don't have much restriction yet even though I have had a few fills.:cry -
Do you exercise? Have you lost without it?
Jachut replied to juliegeraci's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
It becomes easier over time too - like I had to just accept that going to the gym 5 times a week was not going to happen, its just too hard with kids and i have too many important things to do while Eliza's in daycare to spend it all in a gym. Which is why I took up running. But I'm so hooked now, so focussed on the next race and I love it so much that if I know I'm going to be busy that evening or whatever, i do get up at 5.30 am to go for a run. It doesnt feel like a sacrifice to do it becuase I feel so darn good after running and I feel so darn good about running. But its taken me almost a year for it to really become a daily habit and something that I wont just give up. -
Help me understand a few things please.....

ok I admit it, I am a huge baby when it comes to pain! It hurt like hell for me and I was in pain for quite a while. I took 2 weeks off from work and I thank god I did. Just like getting any type of surgery it takes time for your body to heal itself and everyone takes pain differently. After all is said and done it is SURGERY!!!!!!!
