Weight lost question
NovaLuna replied to emilijolye's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Your weight loss depends on a lot of factors including your pre-op weight. The less you have to lose the slower the weight will come off. Also, you had a revision and revisions tend to lose slower. That doesn't mean it's not going to come off, it'll just likely come off a lot slower than you would like. Also, you may still have some fluid from your surgery. From my own experience it took about 10 days to get rid of that fluid so give yourself a few more days and I'm sure you'll drop a few more pounds. Congrats on your new surgery and I wish you the best! -
July 2019 I had a sleeve surgery lots of complications had a revision to bypass done February 2020. Been recovering and healing at home but obviously with the pandemic not a whole lot of socializing happening. Now my family (large extended) has figured out a location and way to have a get together and still be able to ensure safety as much as possible. This is taking place tomorrow afternoon. I am a little nervous about when it’s time to eat. My family shows love with food and lots of it. (And based on the fact that I started this journey at 350+lbs you can probably guess they don’t always prepare the most healthy food choices). I plan to make sure that I avoid the food area as much as possible and to drink my water and will have my nausea medicine in case there is anything that sets my stomach off. I don’t want to hurt people’s feelings by not eating their food but I have absolutely no interest in making myself sick or binging on bad for me food. I am sure I will be okay and am just having a case of nerves since the is my first “party” situation since I started the process of having wls and even though it’s all family I am worried someone is going to be watching every bite I put in my mouth. Someone, anyone please tell me I’m not crazy and it’s normal to be worried how it’s going to go.

Calcium Supplements that aren’t gross??
BigSue replied to WhatATool:-)'s topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Caltrate is calcium carbonate, and as a gastric bypass patient, you need calcium citrate, so you should get some calcium citrate and stop taking Caltrate ASAP. (FYI, most of the common calcium supplements that you can buy at the drug store are calcium carbonate, so you'll need to check the label when you buy calcium supplements.) I use BariatricPal French Vanilla Caramel soft chews. They are delicious -- they taste like candy. I have an order on the way with the strawberry flavor, and I hope it's just as good. The BariatricPal store has lots of soft chew calcium citrate supplements in a variety of flavors. I can't vouch for anything but the French Vanilla, but they all have good reviews, so I bet you can find a flavor you like. -
I had the sleeve back in 2012. I could eat whatever I wanted and never dumped. That may be why I gained all my weight back. So I just had it revised to the bypass and I was curious about the dumping. I've heard its pretty bad. Hopefully I'm one of the ones that never dumps. Thanks for sharing!

I've had lighter-colored stools since my bypass on 6/29. When I had pancreatitis from gall stones, stools were clay-colored and I felt very sick. If you don't feel pain in the upper right under and just below your ribs, it's probably not your gall bladder. Your doctor can check your lipase and amylase levels too.

Worrying if I’m doing the right thing
brwneyedgrl96 posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I’m scheduled to have my gastric bypass this coming Tuesday and I’m so anxious. I’ve wanted this and I’ve been ready and now I’m can’t stop worrying. Am I doing the right thing? I have a 5 year old that I’m his whole world.. what if something happens?? Ugh someone please please help me -
I had purchased patch vitamins and EZ melt vitamins to meet vitamin requirements. Purchased Propel water at Sam's club, 15g protein, 0 cal, 0 sugar to meet liquid intake to prevent constipation. Purchased from Bariatric pal soups, chocolate drinks, shakes replacements to be sure all protein was met. After surgery on the 28th of August 2020, no pain, some discomfort. Went home the next day after x-ray showing no leakage at Mayo Hospital in Florida. I did walk in place in the hospital to help release excess gas. I did purchase a abdominal binder on Amazon and used it after the surgery. This helped a great deal and Dr said this was a good idea to do this. My goal is BMI 20 or less. Enjoy your healthy journey. Dr. Stephen Bowers did over 1000 gastric bypass surgeries and he was awesome.

Had my surgery at Mayo Hospital by Dr. Stephen Bowers. He found a hiatel hernia while doing the gastric bypass and repaired it at the same time. He has done over 1000 bariatric surgeries.

Anyone for August 2020
Napua replied to MotivatedMomma's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
After surgery I started using patch vitamins and EZ melting vitamins to meet vitamin requirements. I use a baby spoon for my food intake that has made it easy for me. During my gastric bypass surgery the dr repaired a hiatel hernia that he found. Surgery was on 8/28/20. No discomfort, no pain as today. Good luck on your healthy journey. -
Gastric Bypass is the best thing I've done for myself!! Start getting excited, b/c you are about to embark on a journey to a whole new you!!!! The pre-op diet is hard, but after that it's smooth sailing! Yeah, little things like constipation and that kind of stuff, but it's all worth it to let your inner beauty SHINE on the outside!!!

Hello, I have started the process of moving forward with weight loss surgery and decided to do gastric bypass. I want to know what to expect after having the surgery. I am about 2 months away.

Give it me straight!
catwoman7 replied to Mum23Boys's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
to be honest, I can't think of anything major. Many of us have chronic constipation, but that can be managed (I take a capful of Miralax daily to prevent it). And you're right - the saggy skin (I had mine removed, but it was easy enough to hide when I had it - I doubt anyone knew about it but me and my husband). Many people experience hair loss during the first few months, but that's temporary and often minor (some lose a lot - but most don't lose enough for other people to notice). It grows back. And of course you'll be tired the first few weeks, but that's true of any major surgery, really. some people with RNY have dumping syndrome; some with VSG have acid reflux (sleevers can also get dumping syndrome, but it's more common with bypass). Dumping can be managed, too, by eating the way you're supposed to eat. about 5% of RNY'ers have a stricture (or two) during the first three months or so post-surgery, but that's also minor and an easy fix. patients of either surgery can also experience low blood pressure during the first few months - so they get dizzy (and a few have fainted) when they're transitioning from lying down or sitting to standing. If you're one of them, you have to remember to transition slowly. you'll also have to take vitamins for life with either surgery, but it's more critical for RNY'ers because of the malabsorption factor. Skipping on that can cause big problems down the road. Other than iron, though, deficiencies are rare as long as you keep on top of your supplements (iron is an exception because some people don't absorb iron well via oral supplements - they have to get occasional infusions. Luckily, most people can absorb it through oral supplements just fine, though...) can't think of any other common side effect at the moment, but maybe others will chime in -

Moe2175 replied to vsg_britt_091420's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Wow same! I had my sleeve in 2017 and due to GERD I am now scheduled for a bypass on 9/23. It really didn’t feel real at all for me until my final follow up yesterday which is when I got freaked out. -
Anyone for September 2020?
Moe2175 replied to vsg_britt_091420's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi everyone!! I’m having a conversion done from a sleeve to bypass and scheduled on 9/23. Didn’t feel real until I had my final follow-up appointment yesterday! -
Hi so can give it to me straight - tell me all the bad things nobody will tell you. I dont want to hear the good things just the bad things ... Not sure if getting a bypass or the sleeve yet. My tits are going to sag and skin is going to sag - I know from previous weight loss. I have a huge backside god only knows where that will end up. This journey isnt about vanity to me but my husband might not like it. I am having my lapband out (after 8 years of ups and downs) soon and am going through the NHS (UK) programme so I have a year or more before surgery. Is it worth the bad stuff? Embarrassed how my body has turned out. Eeek! everything else failed due to willpower.

Hi. I am a new member/user of this site. One week and 2 days post bypass surgery. I am looking for a site where people with similar situations discuss the positive and not so positive changes from having the surgery as well as long-term successes and challenges. If you have found this site beneficial, you can easily answer the following two questions without pause. Time is to precious to waste and I want to make sure I am in a good place. Thank you.

Hi everyone. Sorry this is kind of long, I’ll put a TL;DR at the bottom. I’m trying to see if anyone has had the same issue as me and can help me. I went through BeLiteWeight for my mini bypass. I’m 5 weeks post-op and 23 years old. I was bouncing back pretty quickly and was very excited. I know someone who went through the same program, and when he saw the diet plan that was given to me he was worried. When he had his surgery several years ago, they were a lot stricter on the diet. The papers they gave me said I could start having soft solid foods at 3 weeks and most regular solid foods at 4. I was let off most dietary restrictions at 5 weeks post-op. So at 3 weeks I could have ANY soft cooked veggies, and I ate a couple pieces of broccoli. Apparently some of it has gotten lodged inside somewhere and I’ve been nauseated for a while now. This weekend I started vomiting, and it has progressively worsened over the last three days. I talked to my dietary coach and all she said was go back to clear liquids. That’s what I’m doing, but does anyone have any tips for how to get this out of my pouch so I can stop throwing up? I took anti-nausea meds and threw them up 30 minutes later. TL;DR I’m 5 weeks post-op and have food stuck in my pouch I guess. Any tips to help me stop throwing up? Thanks, Kenna

Steroids, obesity, and WLS
2Bsmaller18 replied to BoiledDenim's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I came across this old comment but wanted to ask if you take anything to protect your pouch form steroids? My plastic surgeon wants to do some local injections for scars on my arms but my bypass surgeon is super conservative and said to never take any anti inflammatory or steroids. Not just orally he said to never get a steroid injection in a joint etc. -
I saw my plastic surgeon and he is going to do a local injection to revise some problem spots from my brachioplasty. He also want to do a little steroid injections at some of the darker, thicker incision areas. My bypass surgeon said never to have any anti inflammatory or steroids. He said to not even have a steroid injection in a joint etc. He is very conservative. Has anyone else ever had steroid injections locally just skin deep after bypass? Would you ever consider it? If I do can I take tums or something to help prevent an issue. The steroid obviously wouldn't be taken orally but would go into my blood stream.

My VSG pouch too big?
tarotcardreader replied to over65's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I did rny and my surgeon does golf ball sized pouch and all the things you said is true. hard to get in water etc. it varies by surgeon. gastric bypass can hold less than sleeve so dont compare the golf ball to your banana pouch lol. compare banana with banana 🤓 -
I think this is a grass is greener scenario. I am still having open wounds that need worked on and i have a considerable amount of pain but i am only a little over a week out. i also -sometimes- cant go more than a 1/2 ounce on puree without my nose running. I am having a real tough time getting the fluid in at 1 ounce limit. real. but everyday is a new day. im following my programs plan so i wont be eating the carbs til appropriate. however, i am not meeting even the protein minimum in the plan. 1 oz protein but cant drink if eat. its very rough to even meet one of the goals let alone both. i believe it is possible that some people have a looser connection point to their intestines which can make things easier than this which may be why yours seems so easy. however because i had a higher bmi i got the bypass to the max even the intestine length is 150cm. so thats probably why i am on the struggle bus but i wasnt going to go through it unless it was done all the way you know lol

Weight gain post revision
Starwarsandcupcakes replied to tabbycat's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I went in for my revision on 8/11 weighing 212 and at my week post op on 8/19 I weighed 215. I know it was from fluid because I got 6+ bags of IV fluids in the 4 days post op in the hospital.
