Does your Dr put in a fill during surgery or does he make you wait 6weeks????
Carlene replied to shell04937's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I had to wait 5 weeks after surgery before I got my first fill. It's hard to be patient, I know, but you have to think of this in the long-term. In my case, it has taken almost 2 years to lose 97 pounds. I am still about 10 pounds from goal, but I don't really work at losing any more, so it serves me right. I wear a size 2/4 and couldn't be happier - except for the vacant skin that is still (literally) hanging around. Depending on which band you have, it may take several fills to achieve good restriction. Don't expect to hit the "sweet spot" with your first one. One more thing....you will do 100 times better if you follow the bandster rules. Eat protein first, then veggies, then carbs. Stay away from liquid calories (ice cream, chocolate, etc) and exercise. GOOD LUCK!!! -
Making all my favorite dinners this week.
rodeomom969 replied to mommyjamie's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That's what I did. I went to all my favorite restaurants and don't regret it. I would try to cut down on sugars a little in the last few days so that it will be a little less hard on the withdrawls. Good luck and enjoy your last week. -

I start my liquid diet on Friday for surgery on the 21st. This is my food funeral. Portuguese pichadinos Flank stuffed with spinach and feta Prosciutto wrapped chicken breast Not sure what to make the other 2 days. Maybe pizza and Chinese. -
This is strictly my personal opinion, but it's a matter of works for you. I know people who do both. Personally, I go by gross calories. If I subtract exercise calories then my loss stalls. But, I know I plenty of people who go by net and do great. I'd try it both ways if I were you. Do a week using net then a week using gross and see which works out better for you.

I was really excited when I lost 15 pounds 8 days after surgery. Then it seemed like nothing happened. I'm almost 5 weeks out and have lost a total of 20 pounds. I'm glad to know I'm not the only one frustrated.

Last diet I was on, I lost 15lbs in 6 weeks, and that was pretty fast! That works out to a pound every 3 days, approximately. You are losing pounds in half the time! Why would you be discouraged?

HELP! Samples meals need, I'll Start
SoonToBeTheRealMe replied to 2KpUpwithAvery's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Great idea OP, thanks for starting it! Breakfast I am a creature of habit when it comes to breakfast for the most part its 1 or 3 meals! 1. 1 pckt sugar free oatmeal (Walmarts Brand) and half a scoop of banana flavored Protein mix 2. 1 scrambled egg with 2% cheddar cheese mixed together with about 3 strawberries on the side 3. 100 calorie wheat/high Fiber english muffin toasted, I then cut up a boiled egg with about a tsp low-fat mayo and have an egg sandwich. I can only eat about 2/3's of it but its a great change to the oatmeal! lunch I eat a lot of the South Beach pre-package meals since its easy to take to work with me I also like to do cottage cheese with strawberries and a few slices of organic turkey breast deli meat with no fillers (Nature's Promise brand is the best) dinner Once a week I make a batch of meat-free chili that is so good. 1 can of black Beans 1 can of pinto beans 1 can of red kidney beans 2 cans of fat-free chicken broth 1 packet of spicy chili seasoning 1 can of fat-free refried beans 1 can of fire-roast stewed tomatos drain and rinse all of the whole beans, mix all the ingreds together, except the refried beans, let it simmer for about 30 minutes then add the refried beans to thicken the chili. Or if you don't like thick chili you can leave out the refried beans all together. Also if you must have meat try adding 93% fat free all white turkey breast meat to it. Another favorite meal is taking chicken breast and grilling them (I use my George Foreman) then dice them up...in a large skillet add about a TBS of olive oil and throw in some summer squash, onions, mushrooms and zucchini after the veggies are tender throw in the chicken and add about 1/4 cup of fat free terryika sauce...serve over couscous. My entire family loves this meal. Other then that my meals look like everyone elses! Good luck! Can't wait to get some other goods ideas! -
No More Diet Coke!
gettingsleevedintexas replied to jbgirl5856's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was a Diet Coke addict for about 20 years! One week before surgery I just stopped cold turkey and now, 3 weeks post-op, I don't even think about it. Prior to surgery I did have headaches, but now I have none. I'm amazed-you can do it too! -
I just started my journey last week. I am very thankful to have found this group! I will share more later. I have set up my profile and there is a bit of information about me there. I look forward to learning, sharing and all that goes with...Blessings~Melanie:)

I just had the surgery last Friday and I'm considering going back to my desk job tomorrow (Thurs) for at least a half day. Not trying to brag, but the facts are I'm feeling great. I just flew half the day today and walked the airport terminal changes and drove around when I got home. I'll be back to work full time next Monday for sure. I had cleared working from home for two weeks but no way I'll need it. Everyone's different and your milage may vary.

I have noticed that some of you do clear liquids post op. My surgeon apparently only does clear liquids until you have your UGI on day 2 and then you can have full liquids for 2 weeks, then on to pureed. Had anyone else not had much of a clear liquid phase? Getting a little nervous anyway.

Full Liquids post op?
NJMOMof2 replied to leeblewb's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My doctor had me on 10 days clear following surgery. He said your mostly likely to have a leak in the first 72 hours. After 10 days, that reduces to less than 1 percent. After 2 weeks ...0 percent. I appreciate that my doctor is very cautious with his approach. He has a very high success rate with this patients. I am now on day 11 and feel great. He has added Protein shakes, eggs, and yogurt until day 14. After day 14, I can start puree for a week, then mushies, then intro one food at a time. I would rather sacrifice now then have a problem.... -
Full Liquids post op?
TexasTeacher replied to leeblewb's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My doctor kept me on clear liquids while in the hospital. I stayed 2 nights and on the 2nd day, after the leak test, was allowed some juice. Once home it's 3 weeks full liquids and then 2 weeks of mushies. That being said, the liquids--clear or full---were very limited the first several days home! I'm 16 days out and have lost a total of 21 pounds! Shocking to me! -

Starting A Stall After Lap Band Surgery
Papillon Princess replied to kassy_360's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
JakerT5...you're lucky you haven't had a stall! But that doesn't mean that people are cheating if they do stall! You're being quite judgemental. I had a 2 month stall where I kept fluctuating on 2-3 lbs. Come to find out my band was too tight! I wasn't getting in enough calories and my body did NOT appreciate it. After a slight unfill, I was doing better and had more energy and started increasing my strength training (I did not have enough energy before to get through much of my training and was relying mostly on cardio). After jump starting the strength training, I beginned to stall again ON THE scale only...I was losing inches. Try keeping track of your measurements and make sure you're getting plenty of fluids to keep things circulating. Angela, try changing up your workout. Your body will get used to the same old workout and will become efficient. I personally enjoy the elliptical. My trainer has me on several workouts that increase and decrease the speed and resistance every few minutes. This kicks your metabolism up and gets your heart really going. It's working well for me! Between 1000-1200 should be just fine. I was having trouble losing when I was around 500-800 calories (Band was too tight...). Good luck! -
Hi Sherry, I think I had my first fill at 6 weeks. Not sure if your surgeon recommends 4 or 6 weeks. Good luck.

Stomach stretching question
BlaqBeary replied to mp8btpc's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
in the orientation class earlier this week, the instructor states Kaiser no longer does the Band and at times will not do the RNY, unless the surgeon sees its best for the patient. She stated Kaiser overall did 7 lapbands last year and reversed them all. its seems all their doing is the Sleeve. -
I am three months post op and am just getting over a stomach bug with vomiting and diarrhea. It seems I can barely eat anything now, I fill up super fast and stay full for a really long time to the point that I am eating half of what I used to. Has anyone else had this for a few days afterwards? Is it normal? Is it almost like a pouch reset because I couldn't eat for a day and a half? (I am pushing fluids, just curious about food). Update - had my 3 mo post op appt and I am doing fine. I was told it can take a few extra days to get back to normal eating compared to before I had gastric bypass.

How can I effectively build muscle without "eating big"
ItsAMe98 posted a topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
some information: I'm 24 73kg/160,9lbs 179cm/5'10. So I had my surgery around August of 2019. I lost around 50Kg from than till now but I don't wanne lose any more. I started going to the gym last week but before that I also did 3-4 month at home training because I didn't wanne go to the gym before i could at least do something. (stupid to think like that but yeah...) My arms looked like twigs and still do but at least there is a some muscle to see compared to 4 months ago. All the information I find online regarding gaining muscle is all about "eat big to get big" but that's the thing i can't eat big, like probably most of you guys. I have been drinking protein shakes 2X a day protein bars... and other food that contain protein to at least get as much as I can let's say around 80g of protein But I don't see much progress (counting the 4 month workouts at home) and I don't know if I should just trust what I’m doing now or change something... Sorry about my writing, I would say sorry about my English but even in my langue I write with many spelling mistakes.- 4 replies

My date is 5-8, but my wife's is this friday. Because of an insurance issue, she is only going to be on the diet for 1 week, but to show my support for her and to make sure I am ready, I am starting the diet now. I want to prove to her and myself that I have the willpower to do it, because she is already having problems with the diet and is getting scared about the surgery. Just remember, nothing worth having comes easy. The harder the proccess is, the more you will appreciate the result! Topher

Hey all...my surgery is August 13th. It's possible I may need to fly out of state for a week-long business trip 2- 2 1/2 weeks post-op. The business trip doesn't involve any physical work or anything, but I'm nervous about leaving town so soon after surgery. I'm worried about what stage I'll be at in my diet (pureed food or mushies I'd imagine?) and how I'll work around that while out of town, and also about being uncomfortable on the flight. What do you guys think? I have no idea how I'll be feeling or the kind of energy I'll have at that stage. I have to make a decision soon so travel arrangements can be made. Do you think it's reasonable to make a trip like this so soon after surgery?

Business Trip 2 Weeks Post-Op
Texarkolina replied to Half~of~Bri's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I haven't been sleeved yet, but I am in the same situation of needing to travel for work pretty soon after surgery. My surgeon said I should not get on a plane for 6 weeks if at all possible. Driving is ok but only if I stop every hour. You may want to ask your surgeon's office and see what they advise.
