  1. Hi all! I had RNY Gastric Bypass on Friday & came home Saturday late afternoon. The pain level is severe! It does not feel like the pain reliever does anything to ebb it at all. I have been walking like a fiend even though it hurts. Every 2 hrs I walk 2 blocks. I even did it in the middle of the night because the pain was so bad I couldn’t sleep. How long does this pain last? Seriously thinking of going back to the hospital.

    Anyone for September 2020?

Bypass is on Tuesday (29th). Haven't started packing yet. Staying 2 nights in hospital, What's everyone packing? Sent from my SM-G973W using BariatricPal mobile app
  3. I am on day 2, and I have zero interest in meals. All I want is water. Protein shake is heavy to me now. Still have 1oz to get down in the next 20 minutes. My mouth has been extremely dry since my Gastric Bypass, so I just keep sipping.

    Post op pain

Hi Welcome to the family. I also had the lapband the gastric bypass. It will last 3 to 4 weeks before you feel better. Sent from my SM-G960U1 using BariatricPal mobile app
  5. Thank you very much for posting this info! I found COVID definitely had a major impact on my weight loss program. I was supposed to attend 10 education classes. Only got to do 2 of them before the classes were canceled for the foreseeable future. Fortunately, being in the revision boat, I still had a lot of the knowledge from the first go-round. And my dietician visit was a 20 minute phone call where I pretty much just confirmed I was still on the original diet plan they dictated for me and that it was working as I was losing weight every week. So no changes were really needed. There's been a lot of other COVID related changes to my post-op plan that I'm finding annoying, but ultimately it is what it is and I'm making the best of it.

I am having revision to DS from sleeve soon. On you tube check out shrinking violet she has tons of videos about her experience with DS

    Not affected by alcohol

First, let me say I agree with the whole 'don't break the rules, stay on plan' thing. If I were to look back on my posts here, I suspect I might find a post or two saying just that. Over and over. Could you expand on the alcohol and the idea it is a life and death decision? I've never heard this, and obviously, never heard medical support for it. In my personal situation, I had and have liver issues which for me mean: Alcohol and many drugs that may be hard on the liver I have to stay away from. But this is because I have specific medical concerns. DS: I don't remember the ins and outs of DS well enough to make any claims. Sleeve, Band: For surgeries that leave the pyloric valve in tact food/drink digestion works pretty much as pre-op. The restrictive nature reduces volume and things related to volume. RNY: the 'bypass' part causes anything one eats or drinks to dump directly into the intestines. As such, any alcohol consumed forces the body to work on it all now. This can be overwhelming to the liver. You can hit alcohol poisoning on much less alcohol. Drink often enough and cirrhosis can become an issue quicker. In the weeks can take for your innards to heal completely after surgery I've never heard that alcohol poses any sort of unique life and death threat. A good choice: definitely no. A life and death choice: I'd like to see the math. I do so enjoy learning new things. Thanks, Tek
  8. I had the Sleeve in 2009 and revision to Bypass in May 2020, after regaining all the initial weight I had lost and having medical issues including severe GERD. I lost 40 pounds in the first four months since the revision. It also helped me get off of multiple medications and improved health issues I had begun having. It was a hard decision to make, but I'm very happy and so much healthier than before. I ride a stationary bike 30-60 minutes a day now, and before the revision I would not have been able to do this. Great decision for me

    Foods and dumping syndrome

Hey! I think I’m going through something similar! I’m 4 years out and have been dealing with it since pretty much the beginning! I was told it’s IBS but now my surgeon is telling me dumping syndrome... I’m like you some days ok some days so sick... I thought dumping was only in bypass surgery, I’m sleeved so that’s why it never even cross my mind! Have you managed to get relief?

    Eating too much?

Well if youre bypass just feel lucky cause some of us are capped at 2 oz. you are losing weight and pain free thats good. If you had a sleeve im not sure that you would feel the restriction as much because its like comparing your banana to my golfball when banana would be better compared w banana. Congrats on lb loss

I'm having sleeve. I'm glad bypass is working for you [emoji3531]
  12. Hi, I just had my conversion to bypass from sleeve two days ago and today I had my first vowel movement. Great I thought! Now, rather than passing gas I run to the bathroom just in case it’s not. I’ve had about 3-4 small bouts of loose stools today. Is this normal at all?
  13. Good luck to you!! Maybe you can do revision to sleeve or RNY??? Like previously said, no need to be embarrassed!

    Pre Op Diet

Not really but i lost a ton the first month which i am currently in and the surgeon said she is very pleased! If you are doing bypass say goodbye to big portions in preop 🦄 the surgery really does detour .. cant speak for sleeve

    Help Post Op diet

Day 8 post-op here. I googled bypass meal schedule and found some I liked. My program did not come with one.
  16. Pandemonium

    Pre Op Diet

There is also a LOT of pre-op diets out there that vary from surgeon to surgeon. When I had my lapband done in 2011, my diet was protein shakes for breakfast and lunch and then for dinner I could have broth with veggies and a very small amount of noodles (I used buckwheat soba noodles). I did that for 2 weeks and it wasn't the worst thing in the world. Dinner almost felt like a normal meal! For my revision to sleeve in July, it was all liquids for 1 week. It was a bit rough, but again, after the first few days, it got easier and the time breezed by. Some people here didn't even have to do a pre-op diet! So, depending on your surgeon, you might end up with a less strenuous pre-op diet! Fingers crossed for you!
  17. Missy, I don't think anyone can predict whether or not they'll have to have a revision. I held at 140 for years and pretty much ate what I wanted within reason and then 3 years ago, the scale started going up. No matter how little I ate, good or bad for me foods. Didn't matter; the scale just kept going up. I didn't think this surgery could fail as it's something that was so successful for years for me then just stop working. Now I've got this second chance and I'm going to work my butt off (figuratively and literally!) to get back to my goal weight. Sent from my SM-N975U using BariatricPal mobile app
  18. I’m in NYC. Go to NY Bariatric group. They do revision surgeries, that’s who my surgeon is through.
  19. I started seeing a therapist as soon as I got on my husband’s health insurance back in 2013. I was worried that I was going to be a parent like my mother, and that terrified me. It took years of therapy to understand that I’m nothing like my mother. Anyway, back to the topic, in the years that I’ve been seeing my therapist she’s seen me gain and lose, gain and lose, over and over again. Finally, I told her that I was planning on having surgery, and she was extremely supportive. We’ve talked about it multiple times as it’s going to be a huge part of my life very soon. It also helps that her spouse also had gastric bypass, so I know someone that has been through it, too (her spouse also does her scheduling and whatnot). I was really lucky in that she and I really clicked within the first few weeks. Having said that, my parents forced me to see a therapist when I was in my teens that just agreed with everything my mother did, including the abuse. She would ask me questions like “well did you think maybe you deserved it?” And I don’t know if she was being the devil’s advocate there, but it really bothered me. I started skipping on appointments until my parents got tired of paying the $100 no show fee, and then they stopped forcing me to go. My suggestion is to maybe ask around to people you know that might be seeing a therapist, and ask them who their therapist might recommend. I was actually told about my therapist through my husband’s coworker who uses the same group where my therapist used to work (She has since ventured into her own business and expanding it!). Another possible tip is to call your insurance and ask if they can give you a list of providers in your area. Then you can do some research online if you have the time, for someone that might be a good fit. In the days of COVID, an online option could also be a good place to get started. It will probably be a while until you can see a therapist face to face in person. I haven’t physically seen mine since February. I’ve been seeing her so long though that she gets a good read on my tone or silence, and can tell when I’m trying to unpack something mentally. Anyway, I wish you the best of luck.

    Having a wobble....

I recommend food funerals preop because it may be awhile before you eat those really devish foods again also the portion would b smaller (if bypass). With bypass it feels like my eyes are bigger than my stomach so you may order something but only b able to eat two bites 🥴
  21. Hi delphina I cannot believe that after going through a gastric bypass does that mean that I may have to go through a revision? It is sad that through all the challenges with our weight we still have to battle with weight gain. I too have beem gaining weight. I have done everything to monitor my food intake and still see the dial go up and up. Missy

    Revision completed

I had my revision from sleeve to bypass last Friday. So far I’ve had zero GERD symptoms. This is the first time I’ve had no GERD since waking up from the sleeve surgery over two years ago.

    Anyone for August 2020

I wanted the vertical sleeve also, but was diagnosed with sleep apnea and medium gerd results. My Dr told me my options were Bypass, which would prevent much of the acid, or nothing. Easy choice though I’ll miss NSAIDS because Tylenol does nothing for me. Seems to me the golden standard is whichever surgery best fits your medical history and weight loss goals. Best of luck to everyone on their journey!!

    New... Excited!

Theres no guarantee lol especially if bypass but the bypass is working so im trying not to complain too much 🥴
  25. I just had a revision to my RNY that I had done in 2003 where I started out at 325. Over the course of a year and a half, I lost 170 lb. Eventually I got down to around 140. 3 years ago I started gaining weight and I didn't know why; I ran from Dr to Dr and they all just kept telling me to go on a diet. Eventually found my way to the surgeon that I have now (my original surgeon has since retired). I went into surgery at 235 lbs. I had my surgery last Wednesday September 16th where he made my pouch 2/3 of its former size. Had my follow-up with him this morning 8 days post-op and I've lost 9 lb. I really really want to get back to my former weight. I'm hoping, I'm going to work hard at it so we'll see. Once I started gaining weight nothing, I did helped so praying this pouch reset will work.
