    Heartburn?

I am scheduled for surgery May 21st. On my last pre op appointment with the surgeon I told him I've been experiencing a lot of heartburn lately and he told me with the revision from band to sleeve, it will probably be worse? Anyone has heartburn problems after revision?
  3. How much Protein did your doctor tell you to get in a day? I was a cash pay revision from a band to the sleeve, I missed a lot of the education about the sleeve. My initial education was for a RnY, but I was change to a band a week before surgery due to a change in health. I know each WLS has is own requirements.
  4. I'm so sorry you are going through all of this. Hopefully your revision can be scheduled soon so you can heal and move on.
  5. Thank you everybody. It really has been a pain. I still love my sleeve, but it's been made abundantly clear to me that I don't really have a choice with the revision. So as soon as I can get cleared, we're scheduling it. I'm just ready to be done and go back to living my life.

    im banded

Congratulations on your surgery! It's hard seeing that fluid gain, but I had a revision surgery on Tuesday and I've lost 10 lbs in the last two days. It comes off quickly. Wishing you a speedy recovery!

    2nd slippage, considering bypass

I've slipped again--it's the second time. Going in for revision Thursday. I don't want it removed, I want him to fix it or put in a bigger band. Ugh!
  8. Hey Karey, Thanks for your thoughts. Yes, Dr. Saltz is doing the revisions and I am confident he will do a fantastic job. I really am very happy with my previous results, this is just a small fix :crying: How are you doing? Last I read you were dealing with a slip - did that resolve itself? ~Lori

    Terrified- surgery Tues

Each surgeon is different as is each patient. With my sleeve I was in patient overnight and got a dose of heparin before surgery and another the next day. I didn’t go home on blood thinners. Walking really helps with preventing blood clots so make sure you move but don’t overdo it either. If you have any questions you can always call your surgeon. Make sure you have a ride home though; they won’t let you drive yourself post-op. That said, sleeve surgery only takes about 90 minutes to complete so most of your stay will be waiting pre-op and in post-op recovery. Your fears about Covid aren’t without merit. Surgery does affect the immune system for a short while after. If you can avoid crowds and any excessive trips outside your home, I’d do that. Recovering during a pandemic is scary! I’ve been there. I had revision surgery due to GERD in August and I stayed home as much as possible. It made me feel safer and I was less nervous about catching Covid that way.

    Surgery On 12-12-12

How are the band to bypass folks doing? I had surgery end of November. I have lost 54 lbs. at exactly three months out. I have 65 lb to go. It feels very slow. Doc said revisions lose slower.

    Surgery On 12-12-12

I just had my revision on Monday. So happy I got it! I'm not hungry right now and I never had that feeling with the band. I was banded in 2006. I'm 34 and mom to a 3 year old and I can't wait to play with her without getting to tired or short of breath after 5 min. Pre liquid died weight wad 240 and morning of surgery was 229. I'm at 233 right now but they say its just Water rention from surgery. Good luck to you and keep me posted! Lisa :-)<br />surgery date: Dec. 4th, 2012
  12. Hi all, I need some help. Had the gastric sleeve 4 years ago last week and am regaining some of my weight back. I originally lost right at 100 pounds.. kept it that way for a few years and the last year and a half I have gained back about 35. In august I had a hysterectomy due to tumors but kept my ovaries. I went to the dr worried about the gain and she wanted to do an upper GI. Had that done this morning and Radiologist stated that I had a hiatal hernia and that is what is causing the weigh gain and the gerd. My dr has said we would look into a revision depending on what they found today. Has anyone else experienced this and if so and you went with the bypass how much weight did you lose? I don't over eat, I work out and am pretty good at sticking to what I know I can and can't eat. HW-305 Lowest-197 Currently-230
  13. I'm starting over too after I failed with the band. I had the surgery in February 2010. By September 2010, I had a port revision because it flipped & was inaccessible. Acid reflux became a real issue, I had continuous port pain, pain in the chest. I gained back what I lost. I now have a hiatal hernia & Barrett's esophagus (you won't know you have it unless you get an actual endoscopy). I fought with the insurance about my choice of surgeon (nearer to home) and finally was so desperate I posted my story on their Facebook. I was contacted right away by the insurance company & now I'm approved for removal of the band & RNY. The band wasn't as safe as I thought. Barrett's esophagus can become esophageal cancer. The RNY will actually inhibit the Barrett's from progressing. I hope to have a surgery date in the next 1-2 months. The last 2 years have been traumatic, but it makes me that much more determined to succeed with the bypass. Anyone else out there come to find they developed Barrett's & having the revision to RNY? I'm new to this forum, but after my failure at the band--I know support groups and forums are part of my plan this time around.
  14. Ok, I'm feeling a bit like an oddball here. I keep reading about everyone having trouble getting all their liquids in, having problems with fullness, nausea and even dizziness with drinking...and I'm just the opposite! I didn't get to drink until late in the day AFTER surgery, but even that first bottle of Water went down just fine. I'm telling myself it's because I'm already used to sipping (had issues with the LapBand leading up to the revision), but even now, 5th day post-op, I drank a Protein shake with no issues. Again, I'm NOT guzzling...I know better. But at the most, I sometimes feel a bit of "movement" in my lower abdomen when I drink. Other than that, I feel like I could drink (maybe even EAT) anything. I'm NOT going to test that...I'm pretty good at following dr orders and being cautious, especially while healing. But even though I know it's a GOOD thing that I'm not having trouble with liquids, it's also frustrating because I'm already dealing with wanting more... So has anyone else been this way in the beginning. I know I should start feeling fullness when I start on soft foods, but for me, that's still 3+ weeks away...
  15. Hey everyone. I've been lurking for a few months. Thought I'd finally post since I had my surgery on 6/10/13. I had a revision from a band that I have had since 2008. I loved my band too, but after losing 123 lbs, it slipped last year. I gained 65 lbs back in about 10 months. I started having so many complications, EXTREME acid reflux being one. I feel hopeful that now ill be able to get this weight off me once and for all, but I'm still feeling some kind of way. Maybe it's the "starting all over again" feeling. Ugh! But anyway, so far so good, I'm keeping up with my daily liquids intake like I should. Just wished I was further along already.
  16. So I got to meet my new surgeon yesterday. My employment has a special clause that says "all Bariatric surgeries will be done at..." So even though I was in a WONDERFUL program, if I want to be revised, I must switch. Not very happy about that since the follow up and guidance is really poor with my hospital vs the competitors hospital (btw, they carry the blue center of distinction from bcbs). Anyway, I refuse to stop defeated so forward we go. Plus the best news ever is that after surgery I can return to my program. I'm feeling special!! Fast forward, I met her and she is nice and supportive of my revision. I was worried that she would see my continued weight loss as a cure and the band would not need to be removed despite my severe reflux, slight dilatation, and now slipping (which is what I thought happened but could never prove!) and she doesn't want to wait for surgery. So EGD is scheduled and we meet again may 17th to see what insurance says (which I hope isn't a problem, I have looked at policy and it should go through but never know with them!) Then I get my date! It's been a long road but the light at the end is getting brighter!!! Just wanted to share with my friends here.

    Just An Update

Good luck! I hope everything goes through your insurance without a glitch. I just had my revision on 4/17 from lap band to RNY luckily without any real glitches. Your on your way now... Yay!

    Acid reflux

My surgeon said that my reflux should go away once the revision to rny is done. I don't understand why it is virtually eliminated with rny since there is still a pouch and restriction involved? Do you still get stuck with the rny pouch?
  19. Hi Everyone , I had gastric bypass about 3 months ago as a revision to the gastric sleeve due to horrible GERD, and before that I had the lap band in and had to have it removed due to some of the same symptoms that I am having now and since I left the hospital I have had nothing be chronic nausea and some vomiting, I do get dry heeves almost very day and these " episodes" can last for about 10 minutes at a time, I also have left side abdominal pain that sometimes feels like gallbladder attacks, my surgeon has been trying every thing to figure out what this could be, my EGD came back normal, no structure or leak, currently taking zofran raglan acephex Zantac and care fate, I have tried to stop these and I end up feeling worse and sicker I also had an upper gi done that just showed reflux, he is sending me for a ct scan because of the pain, he does think that there may be a super small hernia, and he wants another pH study to see if the acids are really bad again. He said that he has a whole bunch of docs looking into this but I have stumped them all. He gave several options such has having a j tube or tpn so that I am getting some nutrition, he did ask if I feel better if I don't eat, and I said yes the nausea is not as bad as if I eat. He also said he is going to see if mayo clinic will look into my case due to the complex nature of it all. I just want to know has anyone else had anything like this, or any other suggestions. I a just at my wits end with all of this I am not even 25 and having all these problems, and I just feel that all of this was done in vein, and I don't know what to think or do please help Erica

What Side Is Your Port On?

Mine is on my right side. I was banded 12/22/11, and when I went in for my first fill at the beginning of Feb, my port had flipped. So the doctor had to go back in and revise it. Now it is much closer to the surface and I can easily feel it, whereas before, I could not feel it at all.

    Surgery Tuesday

I can't believe it, my surgery is scheduled for Tuesday...I am so nervous !! I fly out tomorrow. I am having a revision from a vsg to a bypass. Anyone else having the same thing done?
  22. My surgeon recommended bypass from the get-go, and I insisted on the band. I thought, based on the little patient information, that it would be a great fit for me. I couldn't have been more wrong, and just like Suzy, I was basically bulimic for four years. A very SMALL bulimic woman - but bulimic! I struggled, thinking "I failed," too, then finally it was so bad that I had to let go of my stupid guilt (really stupid since I had done everything right!). I had it pulled out in November, and an RNY February 10. My surgeon does it in two surgeries because he said the stomach needed time to heal. Money-making scheme or not, that's the only way he would do it. I was scared I'd gain a ton of weight in the months between, and did, but either way, I had to wait. The bypass in February has been a great success. I have absolutely NO food intolerances, no throwing up, NOT ONCE, no problems with anything. It is a very different feeling, though, from the band, and takes some getting used to. And, since it was revision surgery (and my body is basically saying, "um, enough of this starve me routine, I'm holding on to this weight!) I am losing FAR more slowly. But I always lose a pound or two a week. I am not suffering AT ALL, and I never have reflux or gird or trouble sleeping. BUT ... with the band, even in those few good months, I really could only eat maybe a half cup TOTAL of anything. The bypass is different: I'm not about to puke because I've eaten too much, not ever. So I think I have to work a lot harder with this surgery. People have shared that the experience changes as the bypass heals, too, and that I will feel full more easily and the feeling will be more pronounced. I also DO feel hungry, often! But since the entire bottom of my stomach has been cut off from my pouch, I realize it's my brain telling me I'm hungry, NOT my stomach. I try to ignore it and drink a lot of water! The Vitamin thing is a pain (which is why I chose the band in the first place), but ... I've learned to schedule taking them all and manage it in the not quite three months since the surgery. No regrets - I'm very very very happy with the new surgery and it's milder results!

    Made my mom cry

As long as you do your research and know you are going to a good doctor there is no problem with going to Mexico. Just follow basic guidelines, don't have surgery in a clinic... only go to a hospital. Don't go to someone that sends you to a hotel for recovery, stick with someone who keeps you in a hospital for two nights after surgery. You don't need to be sitting in a hotel in TJ after surgery. Go to someone who does a barium swallow after surgery AND sends you home with the films. Go to someone who sends you home with all your lab results, chest xray films, barium swallow films, EKG, etc. Go to someone experienced with a good track record. Don't go to one of the butchers, stick with someone who is great. Don't fall for someone who sells you on charisma but skill instead. There is one TJ doc that is just a horror but he's really nice so people go to him. Be careful of who you go to regardless of country. I've seen people post here about going to the US or MX and they just love the doc they are planning on going to. If you ask them the stats of their doc they don't have any idea. Ask them if they use a hospital or clinic, inpatient or outpatient, number of bands placed, which bands, etc., they have no clue. But he's sooooo nice and apparently that makes him a skilled surgeon. Don't fall for that. Right now the going rate in MX for the good doctors is $7K. I went to MX twice, once for a band and once for a revision to a sleeve (I'm not cut out for a band) and I only wanted to go to my MX doctor. But I know his track record and I know his stats. He's great. Point being, I did my research. You need to do the same and find the right doctor for you. Good luck!
