Try setting a timer and drink (sip) 1-2 ounces from a shot glass every 10-15 minutes. Do this even if you don’t feel hungry as long as you don’t feel sick. Early on it was harder for me to drink first thing in the morning or to drink if I hadn’t in a hour so constantly drinking worked. I even would take a sip, play a 2 minutes game on my phone, take a sip and repeat. It forced me to drink and get fluids in. A lot of us initially had constipation but if they had to give you a ton of antibiotics then you could be getting diarrhea from that. Yogurt will help to slowly get good probiotics back into the GI. tract.

Good Morning all you beautiful people. You all look great as always. I had my sister in law post a memory on Facebook from a year ago. What a difference a year makes when I decided to get back on track. I hope you all have a great day, and are nice a warm instead of the 10 degrees I woke up to this morning. You all give me so much inspiration. Thank you.

Hello, thank you so much for your response. I’ve not come across many people that have open surgery. I’m glad to hear hopefully it will all pass. I have followed my surgeon from Paris to Istanbul, and I feel my diet is orientated around the food they eat here in Istanbul. I am allowed to eat, clear liquid broth, low fat yoghurt and low fat lactose free milk for the first 10 days and will go to purées for the next 10 days. I think it would be really helpful if I could gauge what my body wanted, at the moment nausea is my best friend and hence really low in take of everything. Thanks Rosy

I was sleeved 11/18/19, 2 weeks after surgery I was totally fine but now I’m nauseas, dizzy, can’t eat for almost 3 weeks. I explained this to my surgeon but he just says to drink water. I am in bed most of the time I’m awake, I have zero energy, my eyes are constantly dizzy and I’m worried. I went to the ER & they said it was a UTI. I can’t keep anything down and honestly feel like my body is shutting down. Idk who to talk to or what to do :’( I’m starting to think it’s my gallbladder but I am not to sure. Anybody have advice ?

I can't really help with first part - regarding the open surgery.I had a tough surgery lasted almost 4 hours cause some complications. I did feel the same way first 10 - 15 days Also had trouble with controling bowell movement I was on liquids for 4 weeks and understan you well in that mater Also had issues with "feeling" and knowing when I'm hungry. I honestly think you have been trough a lot and you must give your body time to heal specialy cause it was an open surgery. Recovery is longer , harder I had laparoscopic surgery and had a lot of difficulties with moving around - like you said walk for few min and felt like I've been runing a marathon [emoji28] Give yourself time and keep in touch with surgeon and your medical team Sent from my SM-J500FN using BariatricPal mobile app -
Hi All, I am new to this site, so still trying to figure this out. I am 6 days post op, And I basically feel like rubbish. The post op feeling I’ve had was nothing like I would have expected, but then again the surgery I had and planned for was not exactly what I got. My surgeon and I decided the mini gastric bypass was the best route for me as I have chronic Acid reflux. When I was on the operating table the started to make the key hole incisions, after the 2nd one they found a very bad infection on my belly button and infected tissue build up, which lead to open surgery instead of keyhole. They removed a large portion of my stomach too, as they said it would have been dangerous to leave inside because of level of infection. i woke up in the most amount of pain, and I was refused morphine because it was not good for my new stomach. I stayed in hospital 4 nights and was given everything through an IV. just before discharged I was asked given some clear chicken broth to drink and told for the next 10 days my diet would consist of clear broth, yoghurt and water. I am really struggling, physically and mentally. physically I can’t do anything for myself I feel immobile, I walk a couple of minutes and I’m out of breath, I can’t bend I can’t stand straight and sleeping is a nightmare. I also developed a cough due to post nasal drip which as you can imagine is excruciating. my dr performed a scan day 2 post op to make sure everything was fine and it was, my bloods have all been fine, as have my stats but I just feel rubbish. I don’t know when to eat because I don’t know when I’m hungry or full. I can’t stick to the no water rule because I need the water for my cough. I feel nauseous pretty much all the time, my intestines are constantly gurgling, and I seem to not be able to control my bowel movements! Can someone tell me I am just freaking out because a lot has gone on with my body, the dr has said everything is fine so why do I feel like this? thank you so much for reading my essay rosy

I had my sx on 11/19. I was doing well in the beginning but as soon as I moved to regular foods.. things slowed. I am still eating healthy. I’m hoping it is just a phase. I don’t know much about the implant but it may play a part. I would mention it to your MD. We need some tips! Very worried here.

Anyone out there have WLS scheduled in February 2020? I just found out my surgery date is Feb 19, 2020. I’m so ready for this!

Congrats on your surgery! I also had my reversal from band to sleeve on 12/31/2019. My doctor gave me liquid hydrocodone with Tylenol. I stayed two nights in the hospital and was released to go home today. I have only taken my meds twice today. My pain only hurts when I get up and feel a little heaviness In my midsection and it definitely hurts where my port used to be. I’m using my binder and it is helping keep the inflammation down. My nurses said within a few days the pain will subside and I know I’m looking forward to that. Best of luck on your journey!

The No Excuses Support Thread
Fatboyslim1 replied to Fatboyslim1's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
While calories are just calories, there is a conversion burn difference between protiens and carbs/sugars. 25% of the protien you consume will be burned off converting it to an energy source we can metabolize, while only 7% or carbs/sugars will be lost in the conversion process. But quite honestly, for someone on a 800 calorie a day Bariatric weight loss diet, the maximum difference between those two sources is only 144 calories of "extra" per day. So that means if you eat 800 calories of pure sugar per day, vs pure protein, you will conceivably lose 144/3500= .041 less conversion burn loss per day. That's a maximum 4% of one lb, difference, which is 4/10 of one oz. However If you were to eat pure carbs or sugar you would spike your insulin resulting in a sugar high "endorphins,etc.." plus it will make you want to eat more, but again that has absolutely nothing to do with calories in vs expenditures out. People do not fail at this because they encounter an 18% conversion rate difference on carbs vs protien. They fail because they eat too much or all types of food, and quite possibly they do so, because they don't understand the basics of nutrition. -
advice appreciated: surgery, exercise, and weight loss maintenance?
MaineDoc posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi all, I have been participating in a medically supervised weight loss program for the past 5 months and I've nearly completed all the pre-op requirements to qualify for bariatric surgery. I've been really lucky and have already officially lost about 50 lbs (at my last weigh in a few weeks ago, it's probably closer to 60 now). My BMI is now probably 31ish. I have adhered to their guidance fastidiously and have made major changes to how and what I eat. I've learned a lot from these boards and I'm leaning towards going the surgery route. Far and away, my primary concern is my ability to be physically active short- and long-term after the surgery. Exercise is extremely important to me and has been for most of my life. Even at my heaviest and unhealthiest, I've still maintained some degree of regular physical activity. And for a lot of the time, I've been able to engage in quite vigorous exercise regimens (running half marathons, weight lifting, vigorous cardio 5-6 times per week). My weight gain has been almost entirely due to poor eating habits as opposed to anything else. Given the considerable calorie restriction post-op, should I expect to have enough energy to exercise vigorously? I understand if it may take some time after surgery to build up my conditioning to where it's at now given that I'll have to take time off and given how little I'll be eating, but say a couple months after should I expect that I'll have enough energy to work out intensely? My other question is how useful/effective is bariatric surgery for those who have been able to lose (considerable) weight historically, but haven't been able to keep it off. As part of doing my homework in preparing for the surgery, I actually obtained all of my medical records for the past 10 years. I charted my BMIs and weights (attached here). It was really eye opening for me to see the true "yo yo" that I've lived. I've definitely been able to have success losing weight, the issue always has been maintaining whatever changes I've made to keep it off. From what I can tell, the surgery seems immensely helpful for initial weight loss but it isn't as clear to me from what I've seen how helpful it is for those who've lost weight as part of the medical supervised plan (and who've been able to lose it historically) to help keep that weight off. I greatly appreciate any insight, advice, or guidance you can offer. Thank you! -

Lap band to gastric bypass
JRT Mom replied to angievasser42@gmail.com's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I was lucky that my surgeon will do the revision in one surgery. It was nice only having one hospitalization, recovery, etc. My lap band was over 10 years old so I'm not sure the age of the band is a factor as much as the scar tissue is and once it forms it might not get worse the longer it's there. Good luck, y'all! However you do it, it is TOTALLY worth getting that useless band and port out. I can lay on my stomach without the port sticking into me without pain now! -

Lap Band Slipped... Not sure what to do next
JRT Mom replied to SpaceCowboy74's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I had a 10 year old band slip and it was miserable. I got a fear of eating since I didn't know if each meal was going to stay down or cause vomiting. My surgeon wouldn't even consider trying to fix the band, so it came out and I now have a RNY. Best thing I could have done after fighting that band for a year. I get what SpaceCowboy74 is saying about food. I don't think he's talking about eating a whole loaf of bread in one sitting--he'd just like to eat a small amount without it binding up in his band. With me it was eggs. Never could eat them with my band. Now that the band is gone, I can eat them again. Would I eat a dozen at once? No, but it's nice to be able to eat one without fear! I wouldn't stay with a surgeon that was trying to fix a lap band problem. Most surgeons today won't even place one. The 10 year failure rate is somewhere around 50%. You might want to look into a RNY--if you have GERD, or even if you don't, lots of people develop it after a sleeve, Good luck! -
I started at 285, my surgery date was 12/4/19 I had the Rouen Y Gastric Bypass. My current weight 4 weeks out is 255.9 and I am 5'6". My goal weight is 140. It was the best decision I have ever made in my life and I would do it again in a heartbeat. Good luck to you!!!

January 2020 Surgery Date
Krimsonbutterflies replied to Krimsonbutterflies's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Nothing wrong with being over prepared. I'm making a list and checking it twice, lol. My Bariatric Dr. called me to follow up with in regards to the last 10 pounds I need to lose and prescribed something to help me due to the deranged hormone imbalances that plague me. I was so nervous about my surgery being canceled, but I'm honestly doing right and eating right. I was reassured that I will have my surgery, just stay the course and it will be here soon. I started this journey in September 2018, I'm so excited for all of you and myself. I never saw this in my life or even knew this was needed, the closer the 31st gets the more emotional I'm becoming (in a good way). I still have supplies to purchase and cleaning to keep me occupied. I need a surgery journal, lol but seriously. -
A Tale of Two Arm Lifts (rs & ms.sss)
ms.sss replied to ms.sss's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
If I had to, I would have been able to tie my shoelaces and put on my socks pants, etc by myself (I didn't though cuz I had Mr. and the Kid do it for me). Anything bending down or reaching down was doable, even on the first day back home. It's when I had to do anything that required lifting my arms up that I had/have issue with. In terms of reachability for colouring hair, I was able to comb/brush the ends of my short hair by end of 1st week. I could reach the top of my head about 10 days PO...but I had to duck my head down. I still have to duck it down a bit today at 2 weeks post-op. Right now the highest I can raise my arms is the point where my elbows are maybe an inch just below my shoulders. Anything higher and I can feel a tightness/stretching that is uncomfortable. With that said, everyone is different. @mousecat88 was able to do so much so soon afterwards. She was able to do more at 2 days post op than I can do now at 2 weeks post-op... 🤷🏼♀️ -
My Plastic Surgery Thread
sillykitty replied to sillykitty's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
Checking in 24 days post op Random thoughts Overall I feel surprisingly good most of the time. Biggest issue is continued swelling and stiffness. That looks like it will continue for the time being. The more I move the less stiff I am. But of course once I'm stiff it is hard to be motivated to move. My left breast subtlety, but not so subtlety dropped and softened a bit overnight. But now I am getting sharp pain in the bottom of my breast. Apparently normal, but it takes my breath away sometimes. Went out for NYE and felt great, even did some dancing (just call me @mousecat88 🤣). It surprised me because I was busy working and relatively immobile most of the day. I was in some pretty major discomfort from stiffness getting ready that evening. Grossness alert. My crack ooziness is starting to not smell great, it smells sour. Apparently no cause for concern, but major yuck. I ordered some silver infused gauze that will hopefully help. I hope it does because it's expensive. I am taking Advil when my stiffness is at it's worse. I know this is a no no for most WLS programs. But long ago my GI ex and I discussed it. He thought since I have no issues with stomach acid, and never have, it would be fine on occasion. I was glad to see @ms.sss also drank on NYE, I was feeling pretty guilty. I actually drank lightly 3 days straight, and then moderately on NYE. I had planned to abstain because I figured my body was already going through a lot, but I failed. Good news is, seems to have had no negative consequences. My skin near my incisions is sooo dry! I'm flaking all over all my black clothes 🤣. I haven't moisturized because I don't want to get anything on my incisions. But maybe some coconut oil might be ok? Sleeping is challenging. I have a hard time staying comfortable, so I toss and turn. I have been taking Ambien on occasion and that helps. My scabs are starting to come off. I'm excited, I think once my incision flattens out they will be very straight and thin scars. Gives me hope I can eventually get an am lift, if I don't scar terribly from my LBL. My weight is down, despite the swelling. 2 days pre op 126.4 (this is low for me), 19 days post op 126.4, 20 days post op 125.2, 24 days post op 126.4 -
THE SLOW LOSERS CLUB SUPPORT THREAD
Cheeseburgh replied to Serengirl's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I’m here to lend support, I lost slow but I did get there. It was super frustrating at times. I started working out and posting here around 6 months post-op and it really helped. I had many months where I lost 2-6 pounds. Here is my 1 year chart. 8/13/18 to 8/13/19. It looks smoother than reality, I didn’t record the slight bumps up and down. I was only eating an average of 700 calories a day and I knew I had not gained. I had to keep my head in the game and kept record of everything I ate. I still do. -
What Pain Medications Are Prescribed
Uomograsso replied to BecomingAnna's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ask if your surgeon can use exparel. It is injected at the incision sites and does a great job in reducing pain after surgery. Just something to ask when you meet with them. Don't be afraid to let them know you have low threshold for pain. They will ask you on scale of 1 to 10 what your comfort level is that you can tolerate before you need pain med. For me that is a 4, but if for you that if it is lower then tell them that. If offered pain med take it! Don't wait until you need it as that will be too late because you will have to wait for it to kick in. Don't chase pain, stay ahead of it! At least until you have healed for a bit and are feeling comfortable. -

No arm lift here, but tummy tuck and breast aug. I drove for the first time 17 days post op, ran errands etc. I had no issue, and could have done it probably at 10-12 days post op if I needed to. But ould have n=been more winded from the errands earlier in my recovery -
