    Anyone for August 2020

I had reflex, sleep apnea before surgery and did the bypass. During the surgery the doctor found the hernia and took care of it at the same time on 8/28/20. Doing well as of today with no dumping.

    Period starting around surgery day

My surgeon wouldn’t preform surgery if I was on hormonal birth control because it can increase the risk of clots. That being said, I started my period on VSG to RNY revision surgery day. They gave me hospital mesh underwear and a pad. Mine are super heavy if I’m not on birth control and causes menstrual related anemia so I did end up getting iron through IV while in the hospital but any pain was covered by the pain medication I received.

    Anyone for September 2020?

me too! I'm in Florida too! How's it going for you? Did you have sleeve or bypass?
  5. I would either reschedule or try the pill route if that would work. Having just been through revision surgery this week it is very fresh in my mind and I would not want to deal with that situation myself on top of everything else!

    Random question

Bypass here but from what I understand liquids and sliders foods (yogurt, soups, protein shakes) go through fast as in 15-20 minutes. Water I think goes thru immediately since I can drink 8 oz. of water in less that 5 minutes. Solid foods for me I am guessing around 45-60 minutes just based on when I feel full and when I can eat again. I am curious if anyone has the factual info. since I am just guessing based on how I feel and what I have read.

    Stricture repair

I had my revision on Tuesday I was hoping he could remove this scar tissue but he said it was too much so they had to reroute my intestines to another part of my stomach. He couldn't guarantee me this scar tissue wouldn't build up again in the new spot but I'm going to take it day by day.

    Surgery in 2 days!

not everyone's GERD gets worse. Some people have reported theirs actually got better....and with some it stayed the same. But it (getting worse) does happen to a significant minority of people - so it's a risk, but it's not inevitable. Also, you wouldn't necessarily need another surgery if yours happens to get worse. It can sometimes be medically managed (i.e., with PPI's). People with really severe cases sometimes have revisions - but I don't know what the overall percentage of that is. It's not everyone, though.

    Week 2 soups

I’m in stage 2 now. Tonight i bought a Progresso low fat cheese chicken enchilada soup. Heated it up then puréed it in blender. The best meal I’ve had yet. I had 1 cup and tolerated excellent. Converted to bypass 9/29 due to reflux.

    Low Energy

Today marks 3 weeks post op Gastric Bypass for me, I’m currently down 50 lbs from my starting weight and 20 lbs from surgery weight. I was cleared for food 10 days out of surgery but haven’t seemed to be able to keep anything down and that’s kept me from eating. Given I haven’t been the best with protein intake but all I can seem to do is sleep all day because my body simply doesn’t have the energy to be up. If anyone has any suggestions that would help I’d greatly appreciate it.
  11. Hi everyone, I’m having gastric bypass revision surgery on October 15th and have been doing my liquid diet. Aside from being constantly hangry which is its own version of suck I also feel like I’m in a brain fog. I feel like my brain is simply not processing things as it should. I’m also super irratible which I at least understand. The brain fog tho is really getting to me. Also for some reason I have slept through my alarm twice which I have never done before. I was just wondering if anyone else has experienced anything similar. It’s making things difficult.
  12. Yes you can absolutely gain the weight back. I had my gastric bypass surgery done october of 2012. I did well for about four years, lost my job, went through a major depression and just didn’t care any more. I stopped doing everything I was supposed to do and turned back to food by overeating, drinking with my meals, eating whatever I wanted and just absolutely not following the plan. I started at 366, lost down to 200, and am currently back to 320. I am going in to have my stomach resized because I stretched my pouch and I am having my stoma tightened because I stretched it out as well. Stretching the stoma means that my food does not stay in my stomach pouch at all and I am constantly hungry. Stretching my pouch out means I could eat a lot more food than I could when I first had surgery. Both of those things together plus my disregard for the rules lead to the weight re gain. If I can tell anyone anything it’s to not get complacent. Don’t think that your surgery can’t fail because it completely can. You have to work the process every single day and stay on track. The surgery is just a tool. I pray with my revision I can lose some of the weight and hopefully not mess it up this time. It’s super disheartening to go through everything and have it fail only years later.
  13. Yes I am more of a junk food eater. I know the bypass wont kill cravings but will help with the malabsorption .

    Sleeve to DS

I just had the sleeve to ds revision a week ago and it was amazingly better than my original sleeve recovery. All major pain was gone in about 3 days and I was going for walks day 5. I think it’s a case by case thing. I do have to sleep propped up by pillows but it’s because of this darn acid reflux. That’s probably the worst part but totally manageable with Pepcid. Good luck guys!

    No weight loss

I agree with everyone else. Stalls are normal. Just remember with the DS that eating too few calories will also cause you to stall, or so my doctor told me. I am only a week out from my revision though.

    gastric bypass more effective?

Ask yourself what kind of eater am I ? Do you eat a bunch of junk food or do you eat to past full at meal times ? The sleeve is more restrictive so my opinion it is meant for overeaters, but if you are more of a snacker and junk food eater the bypass is better. Just my opinion.
  17. I will add that my surgeon said that stretching the pouch after bypass is nearly impossible to do. You can, however, eat significantly more over time than you can during the first year, and as others have said, you can eat quite a bit of the wrong things once you are in maintenance. The surgery is a tool to lose weight, but it's a matter of discipline to shift to a healthy lifestyle and keep the weight off.

    Headaches

I’m curious also! I’m only 8 days out but have had a migraine every day since i got out of surgery. They gave me migraine medicine but i do not want to have to take it daily. I’ve never had headaches previous. I’m getting in all my fluid and protein and tolerate y diet up to this point. Headaches for me are worse the actual surgery itself. Was sleeved 3 years ago no issues. Had bypass do to gerd and not weight regain. Just seeing if anyone else had this and how they stopped them.
  19. Yes you may be able to reset a sleeve but I dont believe you can do that with a Bypass. I had revision and I still dont feel too much.. I started weighing my food again .
  20. The gastric bypass will bring other digestive advantages other than just having a smaller stomach. Also, a pouch reset may restore restrictions of your smaller stomach. I had a gastric sleeve. At first, it was restrictive. Later I was able to eat larger meals. When I did a liquid diet years later, the pouch reset itself. I felt full after very small meals again.
  21. Celebrating a small win! 7 days post Gastric Bypass and 15 pounds/8 inches lighter... since I'm still on a fluid diet I don't seem to be as "swollen " as I normally would be. Wedding ring fits and hasn't in 3 yrs Sent from my SM-G973W using BariatricPal mobile app

    gastric bypass more effective?

statistically speaking, you'll lose more with bypass than you will with sleeve, but it's only about a 5% difference. Plus an average is just an average - you'll find people who fall on either side of the average. There are people who are extremely successful with both surgeries - and people who fail with both surgeries. 14 lbs is a lot. You may lose that the first three or four months, depending on a whole host of other factors (sex, age, metabolic rate, activity level, starting BMI, etc), but weight loss slows down a lot after that. I started at well over 300 lbs. I lost 16 lbs the first month, maybe 12 or so lbs a month for a couple of months after that, then I think around 10 lbs a month until I was about 7 months out, and then 5-8 lbs a month until I got about a year out. After that, things really slowed down until it finally stopped at around 20 months out. P.S. With your starting BMI, your weight loss isn't going to be really speedy. You WILL lose it if you're committed to your program, but 14 lbs a month is overly optimistic for someone at your weight. Most of us start out much heavier.

    gastric bypass more effective?

Statistically speaking Gastric Bypass is 3rd for overall highest average percentage of weight loss. 1&2 are Duodenal Switch and Loop Duodenal Switch, but typically you have to be super morbidly obese to have the DS surgery (having a of BMI 50+). So for your weight right now Gastric Bypass is statistically the best one available for you. Some people can lose just as much though with Gastric Sleeve, Balloon, etc. It's very much dependent on the person on whether they follow their guidelines and the way their body works imo.

  25. Hi I heard gastric bypass is slightly more effective in weight loss compared to the other surgeries? Is this true? During the honeymoon period, I am hoping to lose 14 pounds per month. How long does this honeymoon period last for?
