Is this normal?
PuppyBandit replied to Fluffy_Gurl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi I was banded 10-07-10 and have that same pain, it is very slowly easing up. It is really depressing after almost 3 weeks to still have such a pain. It is not present all the time, but once I bend or stretch in a certain way, it's like a hot knife. I understand what you are talking about and am glad to see someone else who had it and it finally went away. -
***NEW*** A lot of questions
hah131 replied to Raquedan's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
the time frame for your surgery largely depends on your insurance requirements. i had to do 6 months of a monitored diet beforehand, and my surgeon required at least a 10 pound weight loss beforehand. i also had appointments with exercise physiologists and nutritionists along the way. overall, it took me a little over 7 months from beginning to surgery. my nutritionist had me on a 1200 cal diet, which wasn't bad. i only had one day of liquids before surgery, although i hear a lot of people who have a few weeks of it. there is no magic number for weight loss. i'm 6 months out and have lost 65 pounds. i've seen others who have lost a lot more than me and others who have lost a lot less in the same time frame. everyone is different. it's hard to generalize much of anything with lap band because every surgeon does things differently, and each person has a different experience with it. i can say, however, that i'm really glad i did it, and i'd do it again in a heartbeat. good luck! -
Yes I too was a CPAP user - severe Sleep apnea. Finally after 10 years of use - no more. I lost 60 lbs at the time and the doctor ran another test and said I did not need the CPAP as my apnea was gone. I have lost 30 lbs more since and feel great.

My Fellow 9/4 (Or Last Week) Sleevers - How Are You Doing ?
Hopeful loser replied to Odee's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was sleeved on 9/4, so tomorrow will be 2 weeks and my first follow up visit. I should've starting puréed foods and thicker stuff-oatmeal, cottage cheese, and I'm going to beg for eggs. I had a really good hospital experience. Pain pump that I could hit every 10 minutes myself. Very attentive nurses, that were intent on pain control. I was walking later that day and discharged the next evening. The worst pain was the gas, which traveled all over my body and lodged mostly in my shoulders and chest for a few days. It took a week for that to completely subside. I've had very little nausea, just a couple times when the frozen yogurt Popsicle I was eating filled me up too fast. For some variations on Protein Shakes, I've blended blueberries, bananas, strawberries, or a combo of what you like with plain Greek yogurt, coconut or almond milk, and a scoop of vanilla whey Protein and a few ice cubes. Tonite I tried a couple spoonfuls of Peanut Butter in there. That was very filling. I've also added plain Protein Powder to cream Soups like tomato, sweet potato, and potato leek. Water and sugar free pops have always been easy to get down. So far 28 lbs pre surgery diet to now! -

I probably miss it a lot fresh mozzarella was my "candy" of the day. still having problem to get all 60g of Protein. but doing my best. weight is loosing very slow. but at least it getting off. last week I only lost 3 lbs. but I am stubborn so I hope I win bought elliptical and start doing exercise but after 10 min feel tired and decided to lay down. - wake up 40 min later. I never thought that it would be that hard for me. bicycle didn't give me that problem. Still sometimes ( very often) feel lightheaded. but hope this would go away. Missing my normal Breakfast with cup of coffee and cheese. I am missing that I cannot have it together -

Pre-op Diet...how hard is it?
Avettgirl replied to Brandi W's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am finishing up day 10 of my 15 day pre-op diet. I have been allowed green veggies and one serving of 4 ounces of lean meat a day. I think that is pretty good. I have to have a clear liquid diet the day before my surgery (this Friday!). It has been difficult at times and easy some days as well. Day 1 and day 4 were the worst for me so far. I think I went through carb withdrawal on day 4. Today I attended a family reunion--it wasn't as bad as I had imagined. I didn't drink a shake while I was there--so I was really hungry by the time we left. I am getting nervous about this Friday. It is just pushing through and learning. Planning is key too. Be sure to have an approved item so you aren't tempted to break the rules. Good luck!! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -

My husband is 67, weighed 320, is 6'2 and loved the wings that got him fatter. Post sleeve he is down to about 255 and he is smiling and happy, he is off some HBP meds, and no longer eating big bowls of fruit at bedtime to keep him from being unconscious during the night from horrible diabetes dropping to 40. I was scared he would die everytime I called rescue. He was terrified of this surgery and we went to seminars 10 years. During those 10 years, he had a heart stent, the diabetes was getting worse, he had cellulitis that was life threatening in his legs and ankles, on 3 HBP medicines, can barely walk due to nerve pain in his legs and back pain. He has been fat since he was a baby. Its is a wonder he is alive with the sleep apnea. You are young enough to do something about this before you develop these problems. Those wings - well we do not miss them. We would choose having a bounce in our step again to a platter of wings any day.

I am wearing my 10 year old slacks today, I couldnt stand to get rid of them when I gained weight so they just hung in the closet and now I can wear them again! (My husband says I am a hoarder, lol.) They had been hanging so long that there was a layer of dust on the leg that was folded over the hanger. I am thinking resale shops....

The past couple of days I've worn my same 'large' clothes and they're obviously bigger on me. Today I wore a shirt that is very 'curve' hugging and still no comments. I'm not expecting any comments really. I don't need them. I think it's just funny my co-workers notice diddly squat. About 10 years ago I lost over 100 lbs and no one said a word. This was at another office. One day I said something to someone about losing weight and she said, "You haven't lost any weight" and I about fell off my chair. I was shocked. So the next day I brought in a photo of the entire department that we had taken about a year before and she nearly screamed out in shock. She said, "I never saw you that way! You've lost a TON of weight!" It was very weird. She ran around showing it to everyone and the comments didn't stop after that. People couldn't believe I'd been THAT fat. It was complimentary and offensive all at the same time. LOL I think I'll have to go away on vacation for a few weeks around here befor anyone notices. As long as I notice though - who cares!

Does lap band work for total Hysterectomy weight gain??
PATCHELTON replied to wickedme's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had a hysteretomy in my 30's. I was in a car accident in 1998, broken leg. My weight gain was gradual since the hysterctomy. I love to eat, and I work for cardiologists, so I am aware of good food choices, and made them some of the time. I had periods of regular exercise, and was going to Curves fairly regularly. My PCP had been after me to lose weight, and in my head I understood it. But put a pizza or sub or chips and dip in front of me and I was a goner. I have high blood pressure, high cholesterol, GERD, knee arthritis, sleep apnea (or as my surgeon put it, metabolic syndrome all but the diabetes). When my liver enzymes were elevated on my cholesterol test, my PCP started again about weight loss. My sister had gastric bypass about 2 years ago, but I wasn't sure I wanted to go that route. I checked my insurance (they cover bypass and lapband) and went to a seminar about weight loss surgery. Then I started going to the support group to learn more. I found this site and obesityhelp.com and did a lot of reading, ultimately deciding the band was what I wanted. I had to do a 6 month documented diet for insurance(lost 10 lbs), consult with surgeon, psych eval, and was finally approved in February of this year. Prior to surgery I had to do a pre-op liquid diet for 2 weeks (ended up 3 weeks because I caught a cold and surgery was postponed for a week). I lost 25 lbs on the pre-op diet, so by 3/25/08 I had lost 35 pounds. 2 weeks post op liquids, 2 weeks mushies, then regular food, just a lot less than before. Some foods have a tendency to get stuck, like bread/rice/pasta, so you will be altering your eating habits. I read labels like a maniac, looking for the lowest fat/carb/sugar content. My eyes are still bigger than my pouch, and if I eat too much I feel uncomfortable, but that is getting better. I am also learning to chew more. I used to inhale my food. Sorry to be lengthy, but I think you can benefit from the band. It doesn't affect what you put in your mouth, just how much. And when you start losing, you will tend to make better choices in what you eat. I also bumped up my exercise with walking. I found a lovely park with a 2 mile path. I started walking weekends in January and when daylight savings arrived, I now go almost every day and do 2-4miles. When I lose daylight in the fall, there is a county rec center gym with treadmills near my home, and I still belong to Curves. There is also an aquatic center 5 minutes away with Water aerobics. So it is a package deal. The band is a tool to help with portion control. Since surgery I lost another 35 pounds, so I would say go for it! -

lovingmylife replied to Parshuter's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I will be banded on August 27 @ Mobile Infirmary in Mobile, Alabama. I have been on a 10 day full liquid diet & the last 3 days on a clear liquid diet. Hasn't been much fun, but the reward for it later will be worth it! -

I was banded on 10/29 and the same thing is going on with me. I am trying to limit my calorie intake and keep protein up. I get my first fill 11/30 so I am excited for that. Bandster Hell sucks! -
I don't know how many of you remember Rosanne RosannaDanna but that was one of her favorite sayings and all I could think to say last night. I thought I was gonna die. I had my lap band "installed" on Sept. 18. I had a history of gall bladder attacks but my Dr wouldn't remove it unless I had 3 that were bad enough to go to the ER. I only had 2. I had a HIDA scan before the band and it showed sludge but no stones so they didn't touch the gall bladder. I have had achyness on the right side but no really bad pain, but I tolerate pain well, had all 3 kids with no anesthesia. My surgeon has scheduled another HIDA scan for this coming Monday. Last night I had one of my best meatloafs ever, it was so tasty I had 2nds. A little greasy but I put cheddar cheese in it and oh it was so good. At about 10 pm the pain started, and by 12 I had taken 2 percocets and got no relief. I knew if I went to the ER they couldn't do anything since i had taken the Percocets so I stuck it out at home. I finally fell asleep at around 4 am but woke at 8 with less but still some pain. So, I probably will get the gall baldder out within the next week. I never want to feel that pain again. Has anyone else had it out after the band, and will I still have pain after? I read that some people still get pain after surgery if they eat fatty foods.

Need some inspiration!

I just got my second fill last week and am now at 5ccs. I am only able to get down liquids and soups for 98% of my daily intake... However, I lost 2.5 pounds since last Tuesday and I see my Dr. in only one more week, so I'm not going to go back for an unfill... I have lost just under 25 pounds since my surgery on Dec 4th and only 3 People even know I had this surgery... My almost 60 year old Live in Boyfriend does not even know... So one of my GF's who does know, sees me about once every 3 weeks or so and she commented on how fantastic I look and asked me if my BF has noticed yet... Since he hasn't commented or said anything I asked him... His comment was "Oh, you've lost weight? I know you said you were going on a diet, but I saw you eating so I thought you gave up" Okay, so Up until the second fill, I was able to still eat most foods and have been eating small portions off of a tea saucer... I said to him "well duh, I have to eat... There is no diet where you don't eat at all" So there you have it, I've gone from a comfy size 18 to a 14 which is very baggy on me and he has not noticed... Be careful on the tanning. You don't want to lose weight and get healthy to live longer just to get cancer... However, I bought a full size tanning bed about 10 years ago and I can tell you you do look healthier and thinner when you have some color. LOL... I left it with my ex husband when I left him... I realized the damage I was doing to my skin and cancer of all types is so prevalent in my family that I had to give it up.... Good Luck! I'm sure if you saw someone you haven't seen in a few weeks they would definately notice your weight loss. I think those who see us every day will be the last to notice and only after drastic changes... I think my man won't notice until I lose about 50 pounds... -

Thanks for the welcome! CLL is chronic lymphocytic leukemia, I was diagnosed in February. Basically, my white blood cells are abnormal and don't die off like they are supposed to. Eventually I will have to have a bone marrow transplant but the transplant docs think that could be as much as 10+ years down the road. -
For four weeks post-op (during liquids and mushies stages), my doctor's rule was the same as Wishin4's-10/60. Now that I am on solids it is 10 before and 30 after.

I know there are hundreds of posts about stalls... However, mine is now really bothering me. I have been stalled, bouncing between the same 3 lbs for a month now. I’m only 4 1/2 months post op. I have been getting my 60+ grams of protein, I’ve been getting my 70 oz of water, if I eat a carb it because I have a little room left and it’s a healthy carb. I’m exercising 2-3 times a week cardio and doing weights every day at home. I take my vitamins. I am beyond frustrated and want to cry. I was on a great steady pace the first 3 months, averaging 10 lbs a month. Everyone keeps saying take advantage of this first 6-12 months...it’s hard to stay positive when you feel like you’ve lost one of those months. Any help would be so appreciated.
