  1. I had the same problem...I was in Poland two weeks before surgery. I just didn't worry about it, but didn't go overboard either. I just timed things so I would have two weeks pre-op to make sure my liver was as small as possible.

  4. I'm so excited, nervous, scared, anxious, and elated....I have a surgery date scheduled for December 28. I only have a 3 day liquid diet scheduled which I find odd that it isn't longer. However, I will take it. If anyone has any advise for the hospital and the first few days/weeks after I would greatly appreciate it........a new year, and a new me. Can't wait.

    Feeling More Hopeful!

Good for you Star! I would also keep practicing not drinking with meals. I wish I took that a little more seriously because I'm finding it really hard. Not that I have much solid food yet at about 2 weeks out but still. I find myself constantly having to be reminded before grabbing a drink. Best of luck to you!
  6. I'm also starting my 2 week diet tomorrow. I'm excited to get started.
  7. sleep study and reports done. Lab work done. EGD - 10/9 1st of 3 Nutrition classes - 10/10 Psychiatric consultation - 10/14 Pulmonary consultation - 11/18 I am thinking surgery isn't too far away after all this is done. What does everyone else think?
  8. I agree! I like this forum for support and basic understanding and commiserate or Celebrate I call it the "FB of WLS"... while we can get some good information and feel supported here, we do have to be aware of what our doctors tell us to do is what we should do (as stated above)... some doctors want 2 week pre/post op diet, some want a few days, and some not at all... right there is shows the inconsistancies that can happen.... "do as you're told. not as I (we) say"
  9. Well, I see you joined the forum in August, 2013, so you surely have seen what your office has been saying. There are many, many toxic threads on here patting each other on the back laughing about how this person or that has been doing their own thing and haven't suffered any consequences. People will substitute this forum for their doctor's guidelines, yet still expect their doctor to support them. Does that make any sense? Take this scenario into your own life. What if you were working in the garden department at your local nursery and someone comes in needing help with planting their vegetables. You give them all the plants they need and directions on how to prepare the soil, space the plants, fertilize and Water them. Then, they come back a month later telling you the tomatoes are laying flat on the ground. You ask them if they followed your directions and they tell you the went to a gardening forum and followed their advice. What would you say next? Would you be frustrated? Is it fair to say that you have a gardening god complex? While I agree, there are doctors who do have a god complex and they are not my doctors for long. I always ask questions of my doctors and the ones who have a dialog with me stay. IMO, internet forums are a place to research and share our experiences. If you discover something here which is different from your understanding, you should ask your medical team first before implementing. As has been mentioned, they know your medical history and are vested in your success. *** EDIT *** I also wanted to add that as I am sure you have read, a lot of people will post threads on here seeking validation to do something which they know is against the guidelines. Again, a very dangerous, toxic thing as it undermines the fundamental philosophy of change. It reminds me of the thread from someone who wanted to know what they could order from Dairy Queen 3 weeks post op. Dangerous thread, IMO. "Oh, look, this person said I could have a Dilly bar," and well ... play the rest of the tape.
  10. hi, i have surgery in 2 weeks. i changed my pcp to one that works with bariatric specialist. my bmi was high enough to qualify at 43 but insurance required that i visit dr each month and talk about weight and fill out form with doctor for 6 months min. our hospital has a class each month and then you find out who does the surgery and what insurance company needs or requirements are. it will be 11 months since i started process. i explained to pcp doctor what i wanted to do and why. laying out a logical explanation to him. i think he understood my need and after visiting each month i felt very comfortable to ask for referral..i see him in morning for final visit before surgery with pcp. july 6 i see the surgeon for preop. sell it! sell the idea that this is for you. good luck. i am not sure but they want you to make the big commitment for health.
  11. This is taken from my blog... I'm attaching a picture of the amount of food I can typically eat at 8 months out from surgery. I eat at restaurants very frequently for business and socially so I thought this might be helpful for some of you that have recently had surgery or are considering plication. I ordered a BBQ chicken sandwich, baked potato and the restaurant serves biscuits. I ate 2 bites of the biscuit before my meal came, about 3-4 bites of the potato and about 3/4 of 1/2 the sandwich. I normally don't eat the bread on top of the sandwich, but I hadn't eaten breakfast and was pretty hungry! I also had 2 bites of banana pudding and 1 vanilla wafer cookie. I was very full and now I have dinner for tonight! Take care,

  13. I was on pause for SO LONG due to another medical condition that when I finally got my date it was just a couple of weeks away also! I actually had to take a second date a few days later, just to feel like I could get all my ducks in a row. I understand all the emotions flying around you! thankfully I did not have a two week diet ahead of time, just the normal fasting the night before surgery and bowel clean out. all I can say looking back is it was completely worth it. I look forward to seeing your success.

    I Finally Got A Date!

I had a 2 week pre-op diet with 2 shakes a day and a small meal with 3 oz lean Protein and vegetables prepared with no extra fat - lost 13 lbs during that 2 weeks and my surgeon loved my liver! LOL - Congrats on your date!!!

    First Steps Of Lap Band

I kept a notebook with me for about 4 weeks before I met with my surgeon and I would jot down questions as they came...when I finished I had about 50 questions! Lol...I thought he was gonna think I was crazy..but he took my notebook and answered every question...I felt very informed going into surgery...I even asked if he ever had a patient die and if he was ever part of a malpractice suite...yeah I asked! Lol...I told him I already knew cuz I had googled him! Lol...feel free to PM with any questions..best wishes to you

    New to it all!

I know the last week before surgery I was ready to jump out of my skin! I think everyone in December (who really wants surgery) will be moving up because there are those who will postpone "until after the holidays". So with any luck, maybe you will be moved up again. How lucky you are not to have a pre-op diet--but I must tell you that it prepared me for post-op and the band's rules. Best wishes to you in your upcoming surgery!

    June 2010 58 pounds down

Thanks! My first grandchild, spent a week with him and it wasn't enough.
  22. There are so many variations on the pre-op diet from what to eat/drink to length of time (the post-op diet, as well). If you're unsure about what you are supposed to be doing pre-op, I agree with Cherish, you need to call your doctor. For instance, my pre-op was two weeks long, so I might have been given more leeway on what I was allowed to have versus someone with a shorter period of time.
  23. I've been lurking around the boards for about 2 months now to gather information. I attended an informational in June and went for my surgical consult, psych, and nutrition information last week. I have an upper gi, ekg, and chest xray left. The good thing is I dont have any other issues going on Healthwise. My dr's office called today and gave me a surgery date of August 10th!!! I didnt even know i had insurance approval yet. Has anyone else had this happen?
