Anyone get their sleeve February 2019

Hi! I just had my Gastric Sleeve on February 19, 2019. This has been much more painful than I imagined! Day 4 and I’m beginning to feel a little better.
  2. I'd research other surgeons, just to get a feel for the different approachs....then make your decision. There is emerging evidence that prolonged super low calorie diets before and after surgery could reset your metabolism to unrealistically low levels that set you up for weight gain later. (not saying this always happens, not saying this is gosple....bariatrics are an emerging science....just sharing that there are a lot of different ideas at play) My group did a very carb restricted diet for two weeks before surgery. We were allowed to drink 5 shakes a day plus one food item from a list.....but this was just to shrink the liver for an easier procedure. My group wanted 10% weight loss, but expected it to take months. We were required to work with a nutritionist, attend fitness classes, healthy cooking classes, support groups. Our whole process took 4-6 months...just to lay the nutrition groundwork and weight loss work before the surgery. After surgery, we were pushed to eat 1200 calories a day as soon as we could tolerate it...in hopes that this would give us a robust metabolic reset. (to be clear, we went through the gradual restoration of diet after surgery for safety....liquid, puree, soft, etc....but our caloric goals were advanced as tolerated) I lost weight slower than most people....but I made goal, and I'm doing really well maintaining. My preferences and nutrition choices are much healthier. I've got good support for the mental side of this process. I feel like I was better prepared by my group for the work of making the permenant changes necessary and dealing with the lifetime challenges. Be a little careful of clinics that push unrealistically brutal calorie restriction. Eating 600 calories a day will make you lose a crap-ton of weight and will make your clinic look like they offer "The Magic Cure"....but you don't need to be their walking bulletin board for a year and then be abandoned by them when you regain. You need a comprehensive program that supports your needs for a lifetime and teaches healthy nutrition and fitness and supports the mental challenges of breaking the addiction.
  3. Warning: This is disturbing. I was sleeved on 10/19/11. At the end of September, I interviewed for a new position in a different department within my company and they made me an offer on 10/13. I accepted and my time out for surgery was part of my two week notice. I started on Halloween so, no one here knew anything about me or that I had just had surgery. So, before the first week is out, the secretary in the building puts out an email about a pot-luck. Not wanting to seem unfriendly, I signed up for a fruit and veggie tray. The day comes around and I am still on mushies so I didn't get a plate. The secretary pulled me aside and asked if I was ok. I told her I had had a type of WLS called the Vertical Sleeve and that I was not able to eat solid foods yet. Here is the disturbing part... She said that her best friend's daughter was 350 lbs and decided to have the sleeve done. She said that the young woman was not prepared for the changes she would have to make and could not cope with the inability to eat large quantities of food. Then she told me that the young woman commited suicide. I was not quite sure how to respond. Why was she telling me this? Was she just sharing her experience? Was she, in her own way, telling me that she was against WLS? I really feel for the family of the young woman and wonder if she had any type of support group or if she had to do a psych eval as part of her pre-op. I am really disturbed by what she told me so I thought I might share to get it off my mind. I know that sounds selfish and I am sorry. How do you take this sort of news and just continue on your merry way? Shae

    Getting sleeved in 8 days

Good to know I wont be the only one being sleeved on the 25th. I'm from Queens NY and my Doctors name is Dr. VOHRA. Im excited but at the same time I'm **** scared. I'm on a 10 day preop diet and today is my 3 rd day. I'm cranky and head hungry. I'm hoping to make it to the tenth day without killing anyone. LOL this is really not easy. Ive done all my testing and my insurance approved me thank God. I hope I don't change my mind before the surgery date. I really want this done so badly but this preop diet is driving me insane. Lets keep in touch February 25 th Sleevers. Good luck to all.
  6. My stats are not at all similar - I'm 5'10" and started at a little over 400 - but in my pre-surgery research I found some charts that had good estimates. My weight loss has been the mid to high range for my category so far; 20 pounds in 10 days and 35 pounds at just shy of 6 weeks.

    feeling guilty

I think you should try to give your some slack. You are only human, and I'm sure that you would have eaten far more if you hadn't had the op. i am allowed to eat anything, I'm 6 months out, and just let myself be" norma"l... Which means now and again eating things that are not the most healthy (but no sugar...) and when i do its maybe 10%of what it would have been. I try to ask myself before eating it if its really what i want/ need and if theres a healthier option. I try not to have things that i would crave for at home ... Such as pringles!!!! You are doing great with your weight loss and please dont feel guilt about it... Hugs

  12. My pants are falling off, yet I do not show a budge on the scale- How does this happen? February 19, 2014- had surgery- not perfect eater, but try and get in all my Protein and Water My body keeps shifting every so many months. I usually gain weight or hold weight in my stomach, when I lose, it is not always in the stomach, so then I feel really fat again because my stomach protrudes. The I will lose in the stomach and feel more proportionate. The it starts all over again, Now I have lost weight, my pants fall off, but I still have a bigger stomach. Does this happen to anyone else? In the beginning I lost all boobs, but they are fine now. The only other problem is I have hair loss. I have stalls, but then a week or so later I drop several pounds, so I don't call them stalls anymore.

    Bald and depressed...

I have gotten a minimum of 70 grams of protein since week two and it made no difference- I started losing hair big time around three months out and though it has slowed the average seems to be losing until 8-10 months out and then slow regrowth. I had thin hair already and now it is pathetic. It is so funny- I look at my before photos and though of course I do not miss being that weight I also always notice how much better my hair looked! It does NOT help that I am in the pool five days a week. Oh well, if I go bald at least I will be skinny and bald!

    Cancer Weight Gain

First of all, you still look great--I can't see much of a difference between April 2018 and December 2019. However, the more important issue is your health. I'm sure that cancer had a huge physical and emotional impact on you, and right now you should focus on your recovery from cancer more than on your weight issues. (I say this as a cancer survivor myself.) You can deal with your weight once you are clearly on the other side of the cancer. Please don't beat yourself up about your relatively small weight gain. You have been through a lot!

    Pre-surgery jitters

I can't speak on the lap band but I am a tad bit over 4 months post-op on the sleeve and almost 75 pounds down. It is one of the best decisions I have ever made. I have had 10 surgeries in my life, and this one was extremely minor. I had very little pain. The only pain I really had was from the gas. I had no stomach pains or incision pains at all. Just remember to walk walk walk after your surgery and that will help tremendously with the gas pains. It's only normal to be nervous, but I think you will be glad that you went through with this. I wish you all the best luck. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G920A using the BariatricPal App
  22. Hey everyone! I'm looking for advice and encouragement. I had my weight loss surgery in December 2016, so I'm 3.5 years out now. I dropped around 160 pounds, from my biggest being 360 and my smallest being 187. I was so blessed to lose so much in about 14 months. Maintenance was relatively easy at first. I purposefully gained 15 pounds because being 6'2 with a large build, 187 started getting me questions about being sick. 200-205 is my personal goal and sweet spot, where I feel the best and think I look the best. Fast forward to September 2019. I was having my first endoscopy since my surgery, as a follows up to Barrett's esophagus that was found when I had my bypass. What I thought would be routine, turned worst case scenario when I was diagnosed with esophageal cancer. Apparently I'm in that 2% that has Barrett's that actually progresses to cancer. Luckily we caught it very early stage and I have been able to have ablation therapy treatment versus the typical chemo and radiation. I've developed recurrent esophageal stricture due to scar tissue from ablation therapy, causing me to choke frequently. Needless to say, it's all been very scary, and my eating got out of whack for a while. I've quickly gained weight and I'm at 220.2 today. I need to lose 20 pounds ASAP. The current COVID-19 situation and working from home, having access to food 24/7 coupled with stress eating is proving difficult to overcome. I thought I'd post here to see if anyone has words of encouragement or advice to help me get back on track quickly. 3.5 years and I was very proud to be maintaining at my goal weight of around 200, and now I'm scared the scale will continue to creep up on me.
  23. Hi all I had my gastric bypass on the 10th of May and lost 6kg (13lb) in the 1st 10 days post op and was over the moon. I have stuck to the dietitian's guidelines to the letter but in the last 10 days I have only lost a further 1kg (2.2lb). So total in 20 days 7kg (15.4lb) I've started to exercise have exercised 5 out of the last 7 days, I'm doing a 12km (7.5 mile) walk / jog each morning before work. Have just progressed from 3 optifasts with added fat free, low carb powder a day to 2 optifasts with added fat free, low carb powder a day plus one small puréed fish meal. Small meal, about 4 tablespoons. Takes about an hour to get down. No real restrictions with fluids. Good restrictions with the pureed fish. Taking sugar free liquid Multivitamin daily, 2 x chewable Calcium and vit d tabs. Taking a liquid sugar free Biotin supplement (just prophylactically) for skin / hair / nail health. No sugar, just stevia. Fat free added calcium milk in tea. 2-3 litres of fluids a day. Is this small amount of weight loss normal? Is this just a stall? Is this all I'm going to lose? If it is a stall, has anyone else had stalls this early on? Any advice would be gratefully received. This is may average daily intake: Total Fluid 2400ml Protein - 92gm Fat - 14.8gm Carbs - 64gm Cals - 738 Thanks :-) Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  24. So wonderful!!! You are doing amazing! food kinda still controls me though...just in a different kind of way.. I have to eat healthy ... but to me it seems like such a hassle to eat at all. You see, because I'm never hungry (not even cravings) I tend to forget to eat. I have a friend that has the same problem so we are working together to make ourselves eat now.lol Sounds kind of strange after eating away 10 yrs of my life .... but I will take this over that any day.
  25. I went into thier office weighing 385. They originally wanted me to lose 55 pounds. 330 was my goal and I made it. I went into surgery and they couldn't place the band. My fat was thickest towards the core of my body and they had trouble with the sewing instrument. They decided to stop the surgery and have me lose at least 30 more pounds. Basically, she thinks 30 will be good enough, but they want to reevaluate when I make that goal. Maybe I walk into the office and they'll want me to lose 10 more or 20 more. All of this has been frustrating because I've had some difficulty losing it as quickly as some others. I've been doing this for soooo long and it got to a point of severe frustration. I only lost 6 pounds in March and 4 pounds in April becuase of this. Also, they took me from a 2 shakes/1 salad meal plan to 3 shakes a day. The latter has been difficult for me becuase of the length of time I've been on the original meal plan. Sorry, rambling. I'll end it here.
