    I got banded May 18th!!!

I'm a couple weeks out now. Trust me - it gets better, every day. Try to take it easy, and get lots of sleep at night. I swear there was a significant difference every time I woke up in the morning. Pain is hard to cope with. I'm still getting some port pain, but it has subsided tremendously. There are lots of ups and downs with ANY surgery. Healing happens in time. And I went from no hunger whatsoever to feeling STARVING - crazy! Everything is a learning curve - just be patient and kind to yourself.

    I got banded May 18th!!!

I've read lots of people's stories and everyone reacts differently. It is surgery, so the best thing to do is to let yourself heal on your own time and to call your doc if you think anything doesn't feel right. I've read stories on here where people took weeks to recover, and others where they didn't even have to take pain meds (!?!) and were up and about later the same day. My doctor's office recommended 2-4 weeks off from work, for what that's worth. As for band slippage, that's always a possibility, but they'll do a scan of you at your followup appt and be able to tell if there has been any. My guess is just that you are healing and the swelling is still subsiding, which is making getting your protein and fluids down a bit hard. I've also read a lot about post-band regret on here, and it always seems that it goes away once you are healed and over the trauma of surgery, and when your life is back to its regular cycle. I bet that going back to work will help, and I bet you'll feel a lot better in 4 days than you do now - you're just 6 days post-op, so be easy on yourself! You can do this. Hope that helps, and congratulations on getting your surgery and taking care of your health long-term - we should all be proud of ourselves for making this decision and following through.

    1 Year post-sleeve

I lost a lot of muscle in my legs and upper body. I was getting over 100 grams of Protein each day and was exercising a lot. Again, makes sense to lose muscle in my legs. Much easier to haul around less weight. But I definitely loss muscle in my arms, chest, etc. I've focused the last 6 or so weeks on getting it back and getting good results.

    PCOS getting better?

I'm 3 weeks post-surgery and I just got my period for the first time since 2011. I think it's a good sign of things to come!
  11. I eat 5-6 small meals a day and I swear by it. My metabolism is speeding and I am losing 2-3lbs a week. I really feel great when I am eating this way and I exercise for an hour to 2hours everyday so that helps the metabolism a bunch too. I agree with the dietician about eating something small in the morning to get your metabolism going. If you can't stomach a yogurt or string cheese, try a shake or just simply a glass of milk. Your body needs those calories and nutrition to kick start it for the rest of the day.

    Last Minutes Questions

I too, prefer Worldwide Protein shakes. Atkins was on my list from the dietician for a ready to drink, but it only has about 9 or 15g protein (I forget how much), and it is full of Vitamins, which is fine, but we are taking Vitamin supplements, so why drink more? Taste-wise WW shakes are better than Atkins. They are available at Trader Joe's (cheapest--$2.29 each for 35s and they have 21g version for $1.69), The Vitamin Shoppe (next cheapest--$2.79 but I bought a 12 pack for $27.99 which is about $2.33 each), and GNC (most expensive--$2.99 each). All three carry vanilla Cream and chocolate. The Vitamin Shoppe carries all the flavors (strawberry Cream, Cookies n' Cream, and banana Cream). I don't care for banana flavored stuff, but the Cookies n' Cream tastes like liquid Oreos, and the Strawberry is pretty good too. Calories 160-170, maybe 1g fat/0.5 sat fat, and 1g sugar, no added vitamins. It is a milk-based protein (in case you are lactose intolerant). I don't work for them (honest) but I have been drinking them since before surgery, and I still drink one just about every day. As for vitamins, Bariatricadvantage.com sells chewables and liquids just for surgery patients. I use Centrum Silver chewables (even though our dietician pooh-poohs them) and Twin Labs calcium citrate with Magnesium and D (after I started using I found it on the list of approved supplements for Brigham Womens Hospital Bariatric Program--someone here had a link and I clicked on it). Best price is online at vitacost.com, about $7.67 a bottle for 60 wafers (15 day supply). In stores it is anywhere from $13 to $18 for the same thing. There is a $4.99 s/h charge, for any size order, so I order 5 bottles on an auto ship plan for every 60 days. I am experimenting with the MVI, and right now can get down sizeable capsules so I take one with supplements for the eyes since mine are crap after 3 eye surgeries. If you have a lot of restriction chewables or liquids are better.

    Halloween Candy

Kit Kats are very yummy. My wife had to put together 54 hostess bags for this week and there was tons of candy at our house, Before it would of been one in a hostess bag and one for me, one in the hostess bag and one for me, This year I ate a mall Kit Kat and half a snicker, I consider that pretty good for a chocoholic.
  14. Hi I'm looking for a couple of lap band friends. A little info about myself, I'm 45 years old and been overweight most of my life. I got married at the age of 18 to a girl I met in high school. At that time I weighed 142 pounds, now I'm twice the man from then. Married 28 yrs in Aug, have four children and one grandchild that's eight months old. I work as a Mental Health Tech and love my job. Things that I really enjoy is playing the flute. I've got over 200 flutes many from around the world. Goal is to play every flute known to man. I also use music to help people deal with stress, depression and anxiety. I believe everyone has a song within them to bless others. I weigh 294 pounds and want to drop 100 to 115 pounds Iwould like to find a couple of people who would like to help each other in this journey of weight loss. Sing with your flute and give thanks for another day. Blessings Bearbelly
  15. Hi Dan, I went on a liquid diet straight after the operation and it last for four weeks. I got to like Soup a lot! I went on a liver size reduction diet for two weeks before the operation. Your hospital will give you details of that. As for the first week after surgery, just rest. Your body has had a shock and needs time to recover. You may feel tired quickly. I was sore for several days after the operation. Take short walks around the garden and house. Don't just sit in the chair. I couldn't have done anything differently to that, but some walking is important. They will get you walking asap in the hospital. Take care.
  16. So I had to have to my band removed last week. The surgeon said that after my stomach had healed, in about two months, we would discuss my options for another WLS. First after such a bad experience with the lap band I'm a little scared to have another WLS. So I really need to make up my mind if I want to. I started Weight Watchers as soon as the band was removed to ensure that I didn't regain the 56lbs I had lost. But I don't know if I can do it forever. So I'm really leaning towards another surgery. The question is which one-the sleeve or bypass? With only 25lbs to lose to be at goal I'm thinking the sleeve maybe a better choice for me. I think the bypass might be overkill. I was just wondering if anyone who has had a band removal and then had either the sleeve or bypass could give me some insight as to their personal experience to help me decide. I would really appreciate it! Thanks to all! :welldoneclap:

    Losing too fast?

I think you are fine. Its mostly Fluid. I lost 32 in 3 weeks.
  18. OH Juli

could really use some help please!

First of all, take a deep breath. No really. Inhale, exhale. You're fine. You are not a failure. May I suggest you stop looking for the motivation you once had, because that time is in the past. Look for some motivation that fits you today and will work for tomorrow. It might be like what you had before but it could be something new. I too got stuck looking for that "new car smell" that feeling of how it was in the beginning, but the car's not new, it's going to smell different. This isn't the beginning, it's going to be different. That's reasonable, no? So between here and February what can you do that will make you feel a little more at peace? Can you just be at peace with your restriction level, knowing it will change in a few weeks? Can you do things that promote good banding behavior, like drinking Water or exercise and give yourself permission to let the other stuff go until you get that fill? I dare say you probably need to look at all that is good, find one or two things that you can say have been improved since you've been banded and focus on those. Don't worry about what is missing right now. It will come. Good luck.

could really use some help please!

Tyanna, Yeah for your SIL. I look forward to meeting him and seeing you again in a few weeks (I saw that on the other thread). Sometimes we struggle so hard for it to be just like it was when it was new...you know once you are married a few years behaving like newly weds just doesn't happen. Well because you're not newly weds. But that doesn't mean you're not in love. Same with the band. Even when the newness has faded there are great ways to relate to your band that supports positive results. Sometimes getting out of our own way to let those new ways develop is the hardest thing, don't you think? Happy New Year to everyone!
  20. Heading out from home in about 30 minutes. Checking into a motel to be there bright and early in the morning. I'm so excited for him to finally get this done. Maybe I'll have mine done in a couple weeks. I sure hope so. I'm so jealous!

    Introducing Bread and Pastas???

I am 10½ weeks post op. I have eaten some Special K Protein Crackers and I had no problem with those. But decided not to buy anymore because they are “triggers” for me to want to eat. I have also eaten some thin crust pizza and it was fine. But on Tuesday I had my 2nd fill and on Thursday tried to eat a very small piece again and it got stuck and I was in terrible pain for a couple of hours. it was my fault I did not chew well, so when you add bread be sure to take small bites and chew well. I have stayed away from pasta and rice as per my Dr.

How are you 26th bandsters doing?

hungryforchange, hang in there.... Sounds like you might be slightly dehydrated or not getting enough Protein. Also, are you taking a daily Multivitamin? I use a liquid Vitamin that's not too bad and make sure I get at least 8 glasses of Water in. I understand about your son. I have a 2.5 yr old who loves to climb in my lap and read books or play dolls with me. I've had to forgo that (I got banded 11/30) for a couple of weeks and my other two (11 and 8) and my wonderful husband step in but it's still not the same. I see this as one of those valleys we'll have to get through to make it to the next peak. This is life changing and will eventually be one of the most wonderful things we've ever done for ourselves. If you keep feeling this fatigued, call your dr. Good luck and keep posting. We're always here for you!

Tell Me If This Makes Sense

I called the Dr.'s office just to be sure. I was told the reasoning behind it is, some vegetables can cause gas, upset stomach and it is best to slowly introduce foods. I was give the example of someone eating broccoli and it caused distressed to a patient. She said no veggies until later and definitely no fiberous veggies. I only have a week to go so that's not to bad now.

    I need a FILL NOW!!!

I too am VERY hungry the past week or so, it's not heloping that I'm totally PMSing and I want to eat everything. Hang in there and be prepared for your 1st fill not making that much of a difference. My 1st fill made a difference for about 2-3 days then I was back to no restriction. Thankfully the place i go to will do a fill every 3 weeks and I plan on taking advantage of that as long as I need to. I thought my 1.5 hour drive to get a fill was far, 3 hours! 4-5 hours!! wowza! I hope things are easirer for you today Jadeite!
