Only 10 days post op and already getting discourged
criolelaie replied to m12345's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi m12345 are you on clear liquid or full liquids? If on full liquids you can have any kind of soup (blended and diluted to liquid consistency), strained yogurt, Protein shakes. If you are still on Clear Liquids and you are doing well you can maybe contact you surgeon and ask if you can progress a bit earlier. I did it with my surgeon and he was happy for me to. Looking for people that had their surgery on January 24th or close to it.
suznf replied to Misty Barnhart's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi, I'm Suzanne. I had my surgery the 24th. When the new day nurse came in on the 25th, she smelled like garlic and onions...which I used to adore...but. yuck! It was horrid. Then at home my husband got into bed and was reeking of garlic, onions, toothpaste and God knows what else. And the dog....smelled like kibble. Ugh. This is a superpower side effect. Wondering how long it is going to last... I haven't come close to getting my liquids, protien or Vitamins in but I'm hoping today will be the day! Swelling is going down, incisions are healing nicely and I can lay on my stomach now. I am on full liquids but just added "real" food yesterday (only Water, and a couple bites of Jello wed and thurs) Yesterday I tried some herbal tea (fantastic!), watery cream of wheat (yummy), cream of chicken soup spiked with Protein powder, and triple zero Greek yogurt. Only managed a few bites of each but they were all wonderful taste sensations! I have not weighed myself yet. Today's goals...liquids, protein, walking. And measurements. I need to take measurements! Good luck to all! Our journey has begun! Sent from my SM-G935V using the BariatricPal App -
During the work week: 7am: Protein latte 10am: Greek yogurt/eggs/ or berries/nuts 1pm: lunch - usually out and will be either chicken or fish with salad or veg 4pm: Some nuts/fruit or a protein bar/avocado/baby bel/eggs or the like 8pm: Chicken/fish/pork with veg The Snacks are based on what I am doing work wise so can change. At the weekends I tend to just eat 3 meals and one snack and my meals are spread out more. Kate

Protein Shake Recipes
NWJill replied to courtney.rose.a.'s topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My favorite is to mix a cherry Dannon Greek yogurt with a half packet of no sugar added hot cocoa mix and the milk of your choice with unflavored Protein powder, if you want it a little creamier you can also add a spoon of sugar free cool whip. Once blended this is super yummy and creamy, not as low on carbs as Premier but good to mix things up a little Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
Post surgery, yes you will need that much. Especially as your body heals and adjusts. It seems like a crazy amount though. In my opinion, it also helps to shift the focus of eating. A person starts to focus on getting good lean Protein in first. Thinking about food more as needed fuel instead of comfort. Usually it takes a little while after surgery to get up to that many grams a day. Low sugar yogurt is good. It isn't vegan but it a good way to get in protein. The Chia seed pudding sounds good. Thanks @@Travelher I'll have to try that in a little bit. If you do tofu/tempeh, that isn't a bad source either. unjury and genpro (sp) have a tasteless/ unflavored protein powder. I've ordered it but it hasn't gotten here yet. Many people love it. It can be added to Soups or and liquid the unjury has 30 grams protein per serving. With the bars, try lots of different ones and different brands. The first time I tried one post surgery was horrible! Didn't try another one for months. Different bars and flavors sit differently for me. I was excited to try this no cow bar brand but the ones I tried sat so horribly. I just couldn't eat anymore. I like many of the Quest bars and a couple of the pure Protein Bars. There are tons of recipes to make your own Snacks with the unflavored protein powder too. Good luck and I hope you find what works for you. If you come across any brands you like feel free to share. It takes me a while to try/incorporate something new but I'm always looking. I am 16 days post-op. I had my follow-up yesterday and was cleared to add puréed foods like refried Beans, cottage cheese, yogurt, and puréed meats. My surgeon was a bit surprised when I mentioned my constant hunger. I was hoping I would finally find that "satisfaction" point when I added the puréed foods, but that's still not the case. Rather discouraged, especially since my surgeon mentioned he rarely had patients who were still hungry after surgery. I'm broken. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

Funny how different the Dr's are. I can only do yogurt, mashed potatoes, cream of wheat or cottage cheese...a teaspoon full. No fish or beans for anotherr 2 weeks. ugh.

Hiya I am six days post surgery and dreaming of food too. I am trying to turn it into positive and planning tiny delicious meals. I just had half a baby pot of natural yogurt with cinnamon. Meal options today (all mush) might be some white fish with a cream, dill and lemon sauce plus a few bright green peas. Or maybe refried beans with a little melted cheese, salsa and sour cream. Yum yum. Looking forward to meal times later today. Can't believe how little goes down! I have loved reading the recipes of the world according to eggface blog. She adores food and seems to cook all the time and has lost so much weight it's inspirational. Good luck with your journey to health!

Hi all Haven't joined the facebook page yet, am not a regular and last looked at my page about 12 months ago. Will sort next week. High cholesterol (9.5) and blood pressure greater than 165 over 120 was the breaking point for my doctor. He read me the riot act about stroke and heart disease (in my family too) and said he thought surgery would be something I should consider as he's had patients who were very successful. So hopeful that I can come off the meds in a couple of months. Hubbie is telling me my face looks thinner. I haven't weighed yet. Today is Day 6 and I've had half a baby's natural yogurt pot with cinnamon and a cup of tea for breakfast. Sitting in a cafe - no one would know I was sleeved on Monday!! Tea is actually very easy to drink. I am going to try really hard to get to 2L water, 50g protein and 5,000 steps today. More than two thirds there yesterday. I do feel a kind of euphoria....there is a point in the future where I will no longer be overweight. People who haven't been there just don't understand what an awful drain it is. So much wasted energy in feeling fat and sad and hopeless in being able to counter it. The future seems very bright. Have a lovely Saturday all.

I am 10 days out from surgery...and I am a little hungry...started yogurt, and mashed potatoes today, but omg...do I want real food! I find my self thinking of food I am craving and picturing myself eating it. I even caught myself thinking.."what could be the worst thing that could happen?" Then I quickly yell at myself and try and snap out of it. I am thinking, damn, why didn't I eat more of this or that...its bad. I am sure it is the mourning of food etc. I know, it will all be worth it. But I really find myself saying...will being thinner be better than the foods I want? Right now, not convinced. I have been fat my whole life, and happy...I did this for health. But now I wonder....what the hell have I done?

I can't eat eggs, chicken or protein shakes. I can do broth and some yogurt and cottage cheese. I'm 5 weeks out. I physically vomit if I eat anything else! Sent from my Nexus 7 using the BariatricPal App

In the full liquids phase, there really aren't a lot of options. It was pretty much protein shakes, yogurt, and strained cream soups. What I did, to give myself some variety, was to literally buy every single type of cream soup my grocery store carried. That way I could try a new one for every meal. I wasted a lot of soup, but it was nice to at least have some variety in flavor, if not texture.

Nearly 2 years update ..how u doing .
Sha0717 replied to Sha0717's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
April will be 3 years. I have struggled the past year and put back 8 lds and the year prior put back 7. I must make a commitment before its out of control. I have a goal of loosing 9 lds. That will bring me back to 150 at 5 ft 4 and age 60. My cloths all fit, I am at a helathy weight and feel good in my skin. For me its about alcohol. We go out and away alot and the wine puts weight on...I made a decision yesterday to begin again . I wont drink alcohol at home,,and only one glass when out. I. Back to recording my weight and calories and staying around 1200 calories avoiding heavy carbs. My first goal is 155. And then if I get there ill try for 150. It is a struggle. I at my lowest when I lost was 146. But Im 3 years older and 150 for me is a hood fit....any suggestions what to do about hunger pains...its difficult now. When I began this journey I had nearly no appetite that is not the case anylonger. It makes it difficult. I start my day with coffe. Balck...and a high protien shake...i then try and eat yogurt...fish low carbs...lots of chili,,chilken...steak...and low calorie low carb snacks. Diet jello and pops. But its so hard. -
OMG! I know this is an older post but this exactly how I feel and I am into week 3 (day16). I am struggling so hard on eating and drinking. I tried clock watching and drinking the 4 oz and wow it's just tough. I started off great, and then all of a sudden I just don't want anything, I practically gag on Protein drinks (I have 5 dif kinds including Isopure drink), I think I just fill up fast. On week 2 I was eating protein Gelatin, yogurt, this week I did split a can of tuna and that was hell. Today I took a rotisserie chicken piece (2 oz and could only do 1.5 oz). I am not sure I can do 60-80 g right now. I did dehydrate Tuesday, temp was 99-100, chills I could not get rid off, felt horrible. I am great again, where you the same at the beginning?? I did switch to Vitamin patch today, after a week of Vitamins I loved, they started making me gag.

Who is doing everything RIGHT?
JamieLogical replied to anonmom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@ I only had trouble getting my Water in for the first two weeks or so. I had terrible esophageal spasms every time I swallowed, so it was very painful to take even the teeniest tiniest sip. My strategy for dealing with that was to march in place while sipping. It helped a lot. And I stuck to my nutritionist's plan for me to aim for 1 oz. every 15 minutes. I would sip, sip, sip constantly, not try to do the whole 1 oz. at a time! After a couple of weeks, the spasms went away and it was MUCH easier for me to get my water in. As for hitting my Protein goal, here is how I did it in my soft foods stage: Breakfast: Protein shake (20 grams) Morning Snack: String cheese (8 grams) Lunch: leftovers from dinner (15-20 grams) Afternoon Snack: Greek yogurt (12 grams) Dinner: usually a recipe like Shelly's baked ricotta, tuna salad, or some sort of pulled chicken in sauce from the slow cooker (15-20 grams) Evening Snack: Protein Shake (20 grams) -
Who is doing everything RIGHT?
Montana Gal replied to anonmom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I followed all the "rules" of my food stages to the letter as well. When I made it to 6 months I did try and add a few things back in like Pasta, but found it to be a slippery slope to a place I didn't want to be...so I stopped. I get between 60-80 grams of Protein per day, stay under 50 grams of carbs and drink a minimum of 80oz Water daily. Most of my carbs are from fruit, veggies and yogurt. My weight loss has been a little slow, but steady. Best wishes to you today, you will do great! -
I need a helpful support team!
Carrie1122 replied to SashaJ's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Pick a date and do a reset of some-what of a pre-op diet. Protein shakes, and cooked veggies and just cut out the carbs. No bread, Pasta. And walk, if you don't have a fitbit I recommend it , depending on which on you have or want to get it will yell at you to do your steps. I love my fitbit it makes me walk or step. And You can just do steps in your home and it will count it. Its hard to be around enablers, have a sit down conversation with them. Stock up on the yogurt, Jello, broth, if they are eating food you want grab your yogurt or a Protein shake or leave the room. Don't let them dictate or sabotage your weight goal. And remember we are here on the board for you! You can have the burger just make it at home, and no bread and use a George foreman so the grease drops. You can do this! And you look ahhhmazing! cinderella8 replied to cinderella8's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
For Breakfast I might have 4 ounces chicken salad, a scrambled egg with 2 slices turkey bacon or 2 low fat bomber cheeses. lunch might be a boca burger with a carrot and some cucumber or 4 ounces of turkey breast and a slice of Swiss with mustard. dinner might be 4 ounces salmon or cod with veggies. Or chicken breast the only carbs I'm eating are yogurt on occasion or skim milk in iced coffee. I will also have s Protein bar or shake occasionally for a snack. Pre-op liquid diet...is this normal?
sonkat5355 replied to mbuczkowski's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes, normal! I've been on the shakes since January 19, 2017. The Protein fills you up a date u drop weight quickly. I can't drink more than 1 or 2 a day plus a bariatric Cream Soup 15 grams protein. I cut up 4 Oz of pure cooked breast meat. Sometimes I have a triple zero yogurt or a sf popsicle. I've lost 8 lbs on liquid and 2 prior to it. I thought I would starve on it but I have nkt. ????sonkat5355???? -
you'll end up taking quite a few unless you go with the patch. In that case, that covers most of the Vitamins you need although many people still end up taking a couple of other supplements because patch either doesn't include them or doesn't have enough of them. I don't find the supplements as much as a pain as I thought I would. I take some in powdered, sublingual, liquid, or chewable form so I don't feel like I'm taking as many as I am (powders and liquids you can often mix in with food or beverages). I take a small handful of pills in the morning, a couple before dinner, and then Iron and Vitamin C before I go to bed. Then I just have to take a Calcium chew a couple times a day and....voila! (my first calcium dose is at Breakfast - I use a powdered form (Upcal D) and mix it in with my Greek yogurt)

Low-BMI women who have lost quickly - how did you do it?
Clementine Sky replied to anonmom's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
You look so beautiful and happy! Congratulations on your success! Toning up is my goal for the year so I'm also hitting the gym more now. Having the crock pot always ready and filled with healthy foods is really smart. I've been the most successful when I've planned out meals carefully and have Snacks ready and readily available. When I don't plan out, hunger will sometimes sneak up and pounce on me and I'll be tempted to just grab whatever is the fastest instead of what's the best. I still don't have the same appetite I did pre-surgery, but that will sometimes lead to me not having meals at routine times if I'm busy and then getting ravenous mid-afternoon. I've gone back to keeping an eating and exercise schedule, and that helps. I really like some of the higher protein, lower carbs / sugar yogurts like Siggi's and the Sweet Cream (which has 11 carbs despite it sounding indulgent) flavor from Liberte (at Whole Foods). Cheese cubes and cashews are another favorite. Keep up the great work.
