I eat B: Protein shake L: tuna salad, or stuffed shells w/o shell, chicken salad or egg salad, or cottage chees...etc S: LF cheese stick (string cheese) D: Sloppy Joe (lean ground beef with lots of bbq) or salmon, tuna, chopped chicken, string Beans, or cream corn, cauliflower mashed, or brocoli heads (no more than 3/4 to a cup of food) etc Dessert: Skinny cow fudge bar or lf smoothie with fresh fruit and lf yogurt Keep in mind- I dont eat ALL of that, just examples of things to fill in each meal! Just an example. I always start my day with a Protein Shake to ensure that I get that protein in for the day, and if I get hungry I eat a small snack. I found I actually have energy when I eat at least 3/4 a cup of food for dinner. I am tighter in the morning, eat a light lunch, then a slightly bigger dinner. I can eat more at night, so I know I will be one to ease my band open once I get a fill. I have one more week of mushies, but frankly mushies aren't that bad and I don't mind being on them. if you have any more questions, let me know!

babs, we are in a frustrating place!!! one of the most crushing things about this is that i (we) got the band thinking how AWESOME it would be to have my band be ADJUSTABLE the rest of my life and now knowing that my esphogus is clucked up and i will not ever have restriction again. annie- i tell my dr how much and what i am eating. he makes the decision. emily- 2 yrs ago i got a small fill that was to tight and i had to get an unfill. from then until now i have gone back and forth to the dr and er for fills and unfills. i got them in the smallest increments to be safe and to avoid overfilling. each time i would gradually swell to the point where i couldnt get liquids down. the past 6-9 months worth of fill/unfills i also was having issues with liquids not going down but things like yogurt would make my band open and start allowing liquids. as far as PB'ing yes i definitally have. not much though and since i made this post i only PB'ed 1 other time. i hicuped and slimed sometimes for 45 minutes but avoided pb'ing at all costs! if you read this whole thread you'll see i am not the only one having these problems. several who were banded around the same time as me posted similiar problems. i got a total unfill today and am getting a upper gi and endo on the 11th and 13th.

Anyone not losing due to emotional eating/eating around band?
brandyII replied to mandi78's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
BabyNicole, I got into big trouble with a sugar free soft food/liquid part of post-surgery. I got to the point where I preferred the soft food because of the obvious problems you have at first with solids. I got addicted to sugar free/fat free yogurt mixed with sugar free cool whip and sugar free Jello and would even add a tablespoon of sugar free orange marmalade. I know this sounds like a weird combo but for a while it was all I could stomach and craved. Any food can become a problem for "some" people unfortunately. Now I have to stay away from sugar free!!!! -
First off I feel GREAT! I have lost 27lbs in 3 weeks....I am transitioning to the "slush and mush" phase and loving it. I now have 4oz yogurt at lunch and I feel FULL! I won't lie and say there haven't been some hard times ( watching my kids eat pizza! ) but this has been so worth it. I fly to Florida on Sunday to look for our new home....I am excited and nervous wondering if the seat belt will fit on this trip....when I went down in February I can tell ya it was an act of god getting that buckled as I refused to ask for an extender. Cross your fingers!! I will let you know how I did. :0)

Hi cher (and hi again faybie!) - I am not much of a meat eater either, so he're is how I get my Protein. Egg whites contain the protein, not so much the yolks. The egg yolks are filled with fat, and if I'm not mistaken, the whites are fat free. Eat the whites. You can also use Egg Beaters, which don't have fat and have lots of protein. That's actually what I do because I don't like the goopy egg white innards. While I don't eat beef, pork, lamb, etc., I don't mind salmon, turkey and chicken, so that is what I eat to get my protein. I buy the Amish (no steroids, hormones, injected) boneless, skinless chicken breast and usually grill it on my George Foreman grill. I buy the canned Swanson chicken. I also use the pre-packaged Chicken of the Sea Salmon (boneless, skinless). I think 3oz of each has about 15g protein. I'm still on the soft food stage, so I'm making what I call "Whips." I take the chicken or salmon and mix it with cottage cheese, ricotta cheese, yogurt (all FF of course) and add various seasonings. I can change the entire texture of the meal by adding cream cheese (especially good with the salmon). I've used Greek seasoning, Italian seasoning, hot sauce, bbq sauce, lemon pepper to flavor the whip. Each one of the whips has about 25g protein. I'm also drinking Isopure zero carb drinks. They are fruit flavored, not the milky protein shakes. 40g protein each and only 160 calories. You can also go to your surgeon's office and have them order Bariatrix products for you. You can't order them yourself, but a MD can order them. Each one has 70 - 100c and 15g protein. My surgeon had me on those for my pre-op and post-op diet, and I still use them as necessary. (I'm on self-imposed liquids this weekend, matter of fact. 5 drinks = 75g protein.) GNC is having a sale of Muscle Milk - 34g protein per drink. I only drink them on days I work out because it's got 360 calories. I also got some other high Protein Drinks, but I haven't tried them so I don't know how they will taste. Oh, I also bought some Stallone Protein pudding, too. We'll see how that goes. I don't care for pudding, so I don't know why I bought it. Oh yeah, 20g protein! There are also some IGN (?) protein bullets. The new ones are 3oz and have 42g protein. ReneBean mentioned them earlier, and if you're interested I can dig up a link for you. I've not tried those either, but plan to. Those are all of my secrets. Hope they helped! Sorry it took so long to reply, I just saw this thread. Good Luck! Nathalie

Every day is different for me. I think everything I eat has at one time or another gotten stuck. Lunch seems to be the best time for me, mornings I'm tight, oatmeal after 9 am is usually ok, sometimes some yogurt. Lunch is fairly open with some restrictions, no bread. Cant tolorate it at all. Dinner is touch and go. Sometimes I eat whatever the family is eating, and sometimes it just ain't gonna happen and I bring out the soup. Good thing i love soup!

Hey everyone. I was sleeved on 3/19 and I am having problems with purees. I am able to get the protein shakes down but it takes a whole however cottage cheese yogurt tuna chicken salad and most approved purees are making me gag n not sitting wth me well. Also I have a really heightened sense of smell and alot makes me gag. I feel ok but I lose energy fast bc of the lack of protein. Also I get shaky sometimes. Is anyone else experiencing this? Will this pass?

...and I feel good. A bit sore, but no big deal. I was reading some posts here and now I'm wondering if my Protein shake has been too thick all along! I didn't realize there are "clear" Protein drinks, I just chose one that mixes well with Water and have used it since surgery. My surgeon says this is fine (it goes down with no problems), but I'm wondering if something like this could cause a SLIP? Does a SLIP happen as a result of eating something you should not? How does one know if they have a slip, is it obvious?? I have had some frozen yogurt, too, and am freaking out thinking I've caused harm to my band! :phanvan I feel really good though and realize I may be being paranoid! Kelli

Just tried one yesterday (I am 2 and 1/2 weeks out) didn't care for it. Nut. said greek yogurt 0 fat was fine I actually put a tablespoon of honey on it, she said as long as sugars were under 15% would be fine. This helped me get Protein (go for high ones) and feel like your eating something. Pre made Protein drinks make me ill, just can't stomach them. Plus try Soups but make sure you puree them up. Must admit this gets old but thankful to the heavens that I do not have to go weeks and weeks like some brave soles. Have no problem with liquids but thicker foods I really need to train myself to eat slower because it hurts. Muddling my way though this, hope you enjoy something.

Soft foods include yogurt, cottage cheese, tuna with light mayo, creamed soups, mashable vegetables, canned chicken, canned salmon, etc. Basically, soft foods are soft going down. Did your surgeon's office or dietitian or nutritionist give you a pamphlet or handout that listed the allowable soft foods for their bariatric program?

I'm scheduled for 9/9... On pre op for 3 days now. No cheating but I'm hungry! Very hungry. Allowed 3-4 shakes per day and 1/3 cup of cottage cheese or yogurt. So far, so good but I feel like I'm starving but I know I'm not. Didn't realize how much I REALLY ate before I started this. No wonder I'm fat!

I to was really hungry. I totally know how you feel. I found that sf pudding cups helped me alot. My doctor on his liquid list was coffe, tea, diluted fruit juice, broth, blenderized soup, skim milk, jello, popsicles, yogurt, sugar free pudding, cottage cheese, applesauce, oatmeal, grits, cream or wheat, oatmeal (runny), v8 low sodium, protein drinks, carnation instant breakfast. I only made it through the liquid phase with sf pudding was my friend.. That was my lifesaver. I was hungry alot. I went to my daughters soccer party just 3 days after surgery. 11/5/03. It was at a mexican resturant( my favorite food) that was hard. i wound up eating one chip. I ate one or two bites of chile con queso w/hot sauce and order tortilla soup and drank the broth. None of that is on that list above for me....lol..... everyone's food looked so good. I survived. I made it on liquids 10 days after that I called doctors office and asked if I could go to soft foods. they gave me the green light. I had to reply to you because another thing I did about 6 days post op I was really really hungry and that liquid wasn't gettin it so on my way home from work I stopped at lubys and got some mashed potates. I took about 5 little bites and got nauseted. they were to thick for me had they been put in a blender it proably would of gone down fine.. but I didn't PB or nothing like that just sick feeling. i think your okay. I did kinda what you did. Carnation instant breakfast was a filler for me for breakfast. I would put a scoopful of protein powder in with it. The list above I don't want to tell you anything wrong some doctors say liquids and that means liquids my doc gave me this list. I just wanted to share. Hoping that it would help. Just remember it only gets better from here on out or at least thats how I feel now that I am on my soft diet I am not hungry like I was on liquids. . best of luck, deb banded 11/5/03)

Ewww this is horrible
Ms. Kay's New Life replied to jsleeve's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I can relate to all the spitting, nausea, foamy throw up, slim throw up, all around throwing up. I was sleeved on May 4th, could not keep anything down. I was given a total of three banana bags and discharged on May 6th with orders of a visiting nurse for two weeks to administer 2000ml IV's. I have tried to as of yesterday to follow the full liquid diet, I ate two bites of Greek yogurt and had a horrible bout of throwing up and later on in the day I tried two bites of mashed potatoes with nothing in them but made with milk, again same thing with horrible throwing up. I know it will get better but goodness when your going through it!...... It's hard because we just don't know what our stomachs will tolerate. Today I have blended a Premier protein shake which has gone down okay. Wishing everyone well, this hurdle will pass! -
Let's Play Another Round of "How I Get My Protein" post WLS
FluffyChix replied to FluffyChix's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
Ok, I'll play! I'm gonna pretend that I'm post WLS by 3 weeks. At 3 weeks I'm at the soft solids. My daily protein goal is 74g for my height. My portion size is 2oz Protein/meal; 1oz Protein/snack. I'm to have 3 meals and 1-2 Snacks daily, but since I'm still so newly after surgery it's really 5-6 mini meals of the same size. Meal size by volume is about 1/4-1/2cup. (Because I'm so close to surgery, I'm sure I will be relying very heavily still on protein supplements and will also probably need 3 meals + 3 snacks per day...) B: 1/4c 2% Daisy cottage cheese + 2tbs Walden Farm strawberry syrup (7g P) MS: 1/4c 0% Fat HEB Greek yogurt + 2tbsp Walden Farm blueberry syrup (6g P) L: 1/4c salmon salad (1oz canned, drained, skinned pink salmon; 1/2 hb lg egg; 1 tbsp 2% Daisy cottage cheese; 1 tsp country dijon; 1 tbsp Walden Farm Amazin Chipotle Mayo; TJ EBBS) (8g P) AS: Same as lunch (8g P) D: 2oz blackened tilapia + 1 tbsp avocado + 1 tbsp mild salsa (9g P) BS: 1/2c PBC protein pudding (homemade) (11g P) Daily Total Before Supplementing with Protein Drinks: 401cals; 49g Protein; 12g F; 20g Carbs; 3g Fiber; 17g Net Carbs (*Note: I will need about 9fl oz of Premier Protein Vanilla to hit my protein goal for the day. I'll probably just use those in my morning decaff coffee as a coffee creamer. (Daily Total After Supplementing with the Protein Drinks: 532 cals; 74g Protein; 14g Fat; 24g Carbs; 5g Fiber; 19g Net Carbs) -

How do you get your Dr to work with you to find the right thyroid meds for you? My GP handles my thyroid and he’s lousy. I told him I need to go to a specialist imo but he isn’t referring me. I don’t have a functioning thyroid. I took the radio active pill to kill it years ago. I’m 10 months po and have not lost anything for 3 mo [emoji24]. My gp lowered my levothyroxine from 150 mcg to 125 mcg 3 mo ago. My #’s haven’t been right since I started taking thyroid meds. I started adding genpro to my daily diet to boost my protein hoping the extra protein would restart the losing. Not helping. AM - genpro in 2-3 oz premier protein chocolate. 30 G protein am snack- 2 oz pistachios 12 G protein Lunch - 3 oz tuna 25 G protein Dinner- 2 oz filet 15 G protein 1/2 c low-fat cottage cheese 13 G protein Pm snack- yogurt 12 G protein 107 G protein total -
Very discouraged after sleeve
Sosewsue61 replied to LeaMay's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You might also keep using protein shakes to get your protein requirements, and high protein yogurts. If you don't keep up the protein levels, you will lose muscle, and more hair. Also our bodies use starches first before it burns our body fat, but it is not the same process as when you eat dense protein, your body uses the stored fat for fuel, you become fat adapted instead of running on glucose. And that is what corrects insulin resistance, we correct our metabolisms and hormones. -
Hi everyone! I would really appreciate some help. I am 6 weeks past my sleeve surgery. I'm am very discouraged and disappointed. I lost about 20 lbs in the beginning, only because of the pre op diet where I barely ate anything and the 2 weeks after the surgery but it has been downhill from there. I know the sleeve is "not a magic solution, its a tool" and so on! I've heard it all too many times. But I would assume that if I eat like ten percent of what I used to eat I would lose weight, but I haven't. I do eat starches and foods that I may not supposed to, but much less than before. I am really struggling with dieting. If I didn't struggle with dieting, I wouldn't get to the point that I need surgery! I find it hard to believe that all people who are over weight to the point that they need surgery, all of a sudden magically changed their mindset after surgery and started to be able to eat the right foods. I don't know how to do it. I may not eat the "right" foods, but I don't eat terrible foods. I don't eat more than I can tolerate, I don't eat ice cream or milkshakes or things like that. I do eat my sweet cereal, my avocado, my rice, grits etc. I find it nearly impossible to eat all this protein. I hate all fishes. I'm Jewish and Kosher so cant eat seafood. I don't like chicken salad. Very limited in the proteins that I can eat. How much cottage cheese and yogurt can a person eat a day? I am so frustrated and don't know what to do, I am very curious to know if all these people who lose so much weight after surgery is because they actually followed the guidelines, and if so, how all of a sudden they were able to change after all these years of not succeeding to eat the right foods. What discourages me the most, is that it seems that it is all about will power, with or without surgery. If dieting and controlling what eat is the only way to lose weight with or without it, what is the surgery good for? I am so discouraged. Please help! Thanks so much for your time!

Thank you. I don't drink 48oz of liquid, I maybe get to 32oz, I'm 3 weeks out and still sore when I drink, I burb like crazy right after 2 oz, I'm having some dumping with chicken or tuna, it's crazy! I'm so frustrated I don't want to eat yogurt and scrambled watery eggs.

Try not to compare yourself to any one elses loss. I get on here and see people losing 40 lbs. in 2 months and yes it gets depressing when im barely losing. I have beeb sleeved for 6 weeks now. On sleeved date was 226, about 8 or 9 days later was down about 13 lbs. and there I stayed for almost 3 weeks. Lost about 2-3 lbs, and then stayed the same for the next 2 weeks, now just in the last few days have lost another 2 lbs. So it shows I'm down about 20 lbs in 6 weeks. I am following my surgeons plan though, I know I could get in more water but that has always been a struggle for me. It could also depend on your surgeon's plan. From day 2 we are allowed cottage cheese, pudding, yogurts, anything soft. Many people are on 2 weeks or more of liquid diet. Just keep following the plan they gave you and success will be yours! I have a bit of a different perspective than everyone else. My surgeon says everytime I see him, "Don't eat if you are not hungry." So I stick to that, pretty much. I am 6 1/2 weeks post op and still don't have any hunger pains yet. When I do eat, I stay away from carbs and only eat lean meats. I do this every couple of days to get protien. I only drink water, crystal light, and light vanilla soy milk, so my daily calorie intake is less than 200 on most days. If I am feeling tired I eat some Greek yogurt or cottage cheese and that helps tremendously. I also make sure to take my vitamins. I saw the doctor for my 2nd fill Wednesday (I'm now at 4 ccs) and told the nurse practitioner that I am only eating every couple days and she said, "That's fine, don't eat if you are not hungry". She asked me if I am having any problems with being over tired or lightheaded, and I'm not. She said as long as I am not having any lack of nutrition side effects then I am ok with my diet. I have noticed that most doctors do not follow this approach though, and give their patients a certain amount of calories to take in, but I thought I'd add my experience to give a different insight. Good luck and I hope yo find what works for you

Well that's a positive thing in my opinion ... now if I can look at Golden Spoon Frozen Yogurt and feel that way ... I'll be happy too ... and keep my taste for dark chocolate.

Blend low fat cottage cheese until smooth (the consistency of greek yogurt). Add vanilla extract, cinnamon, sweetner. Tastes like a cinnamon roll with cream cheese frosting. 80 calories, 15 grams Protein in a 4 ounce serving! Tuna with low fat mayo is good pureed.

How Do You Keep Stress Down on Thanksgiving?
teedsg replied to Alex Brecher's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
@@Alex Brecher, thank you for your suggestions. This will be my first Thanksgiving where I really think about what I'm going to eat. Next year will be a different story because I will probably not eat anything but Protein shakes and Greek yogurt. Hoping my taste buds change by then. This will be such a challenge! -

Week 1: clear liquids, almost no protein except a little broth. Water, g2, herbal tea, apple juice, sugar free jello. Week 2: Milk, protein kefir, broth (and clears from week 1). Week 3: all of the above plus yogurt and cottage cheese. Week 4: purees.. all of the above plus blended tuna salad and refried beans Week 5: I don't remember as well, but still relied HEAVILY on cottage cheese and yogurt and beans and introduced eggs (sulfur, yum! Sounds like I'm joking but I'm not. I really liked that..I must have needed it). Weeks 6-8: I really started eating. Meats without blending, cashews, smoothies, eggs, cooked veggies, a little fruit. Chili, potato soup. Week 9 to present: cottage cheese, yogurt, milk, eggs, beans, nuts, meat, fish, fruit, veggies, potatoes (white and sweet). Coconut water and V8. Rarely cheese. Grains and sweets are reserved for special occasions. Everything I buy is single-ingredient. So fish is just fish, not breaded. (I occasionally splurge and get it pre-marinaded). I hate mayo now, but like chik fil a sauce. I put that into tuna salad. Salsa is great with beans and eggs and potatoes. My goal is 70g protein, and have been able to reach it most of the time since week 2. No protein shakes or bars. I used to count carbs, but stopped. I'm pretty much always under 100g. The most important things to measure are added oil/fat, and nuts/seeds. You could eat 2 whole potatoes for the calories in an extra handful of almonds. (I know that sounds like I load up on potatoes, but I don't. I eat 3.5oz about once or twice a week).
