    Anyone for October 2020?

I had a gastric bypass and hiatal hernia repair at the same time on October 12th. It’s been a rough week and a half. I struggled with gas pains at first. Had about 2 good days-days 5 & 6. Then have had persistent nausea since. My doctor diagnosed me with thrush and has called in some medicine for nausea and an antibiotic for thrush. Apparently you can get thrush as a surgery side effect. Praying this helps with the nausea.

Thank you so much. That's lots of really helpful advice! I have researched as much as I could, and I have decided the gastric bypass seems the one for me, and this was also recommended by my respiratory consultant. The diet side of things I have researched the best I could, but my consultant said once he meets with me in a few weeks we will talk more in depth. With regards to insurance, HSE is a public system with a very long waiting list, so I have my own privately paid medical insurance. I've no idea how it works either them pre approving it so I'm hoping someone might be from Ireland and has gone through the private system that could shed some light on it. I know 100% it's not going to be an easy road but I can't wait to get on it! Sent from my SM-G973F using BariatricPal mobile app
  3. Good Morning All I am scheduled for Bypass on Nov.10, 2020 at Humber River Hospital in Toronto. Is there anyone else who is scheduled in Toronto for Nov ? I am looking for a surgery buddy to go through this with. For anyone from Toronto who had surgery at HRH. Can you let me know how it went ? I am excited and nervous all at same time
  4. Hey all, Greetings from Ireland. I may have wrote this in the wrong place first, and apologies if I have put this in the wrong place again, I am very new to this. I have been considering a gastric bypass for a while now, and yesterday I bit the bullet and emailed the consultant. His receptionist emailed me back right away and is setting up an appointment for me. I will be having this done privately in Ireland, hoping my health insurer will cover it. If anyone has any experience or advice on this I'd love to hear it. Its lovely to meet you all, and I am so happy I've taken those first steps. -S x Sent from my SM-G973F using BariatricPal mobile app

    Revision completed

Its hard to believe it has been 5 months since my revision. I weighed in at 159.6 this morning and seem to be holding steady. I dont feel like my weight bounces around as much. I am getting use to the RNY but am struggling in other areas now { alcohol}. I have never been much of a drinker but have noticed an increase and am trying to nip it in the butt now. I do not understand why this didnt happen with VSG . Any thoughts ? I see the team first part of November and am going to talk to them about this

    Hate bypass

You will lose weight. I was surprised that I hit the 150s. I never got below 164.8 with the sleeve and fought just to stay under 175. My metabolism isnt the best and I have never exercised through this whole thing because of my back. I strictly lost all my weight following the plan . I did lose 22 lbs after my revision 5 months ago and am maintaining with no problems. Its just different. Good luck
  9. Hello all. I had gastric bypass on 9/16/20. I’m having a very hard time eating protein every 2 hours. My dietitian said the I must eat every 2 hours! Does anyone have this same problem? I need to consume 90 grams of protein a day. Any suggestions are welcome.

    Hate bypass

I've been reading through this thread and have a question. Im having revision surgery next week. Went from sleeve to MGB and now to RNY because i have horrible reflux. I had excessive weight gain in the years of trying to get to a solution, so I'd love to lose some weight with this as well, but it is not the reason Im having surgery. I see a lot of people asking for stories of success and mostly Im reading that "it's just not as fast" or "I miss my sleeve" but you guys still lost weight right? Just took longer, so had success, but not as fast as you wanted?
  11. I originally had a sleeve that I was told was done incorrectly. That info has still been upheld with current scans. The original surgeon did not cut enough of my stomach away to have enough effective weight loss. A couple of years later, I approached a surgeon in MX for a revision and they talked me into a MGB as opposed to the full bypass. So now I have two problems, one, my stomach is still too large and the bile duct is "basically dumping bile into my stomach" (dr's words, not mine). Only 2 months after the MGB, I started having reflux issues, but was just told to take medicine and it would pass. I saw Dr's while living in CA for almost 2 years before deciding to move to WA to be closer to family because I was in such bad shape over this and the CA surgeons were shady as hell and trying to just immediately push me into a revision without insurance approval. It still took almost a year for diagnosis and surgery scheduling in WA, but I have a huge amount of faith in the dr's I have here. It's been a long road and I definitely didn't want another weight loss surgery after the first two, but I've been assured that this will fix the issue and even help me shed some of the weight gain that I experienced. I did gain over the last couple of years because consistently eating food was the only thing that kept the acid at bay.
  12. Hey guys! I kicked ass with knocking out most of my pre op appointments and I am in the home stretch! My surgeons office was willing to give me a surgery date because my final pre op appointment was scheduled and I have really great insurance so we aren’t anticipating any issues with that. So I will be going in November 30th! The Monday after Thanksgiving! I’d love to hear from people who have went the bypass route after having a sleeve. I hear stories about it being more difficult to drop the weight the second time around so I would love to know about positive outcomes! I also would love to hear from sleevers getting the bypass around the same timeframe as me! Thanks, Cara
  13. Hi all! Just reaching out to see if anyone has had any experience with Dr. Udelhofen at Journeylite Cincinnati. I'm coming up on my 5th supervised diet (out of 6) and just want to get a feel for how surgeries went with him and the general experience through Journeylite. Dr. Curry did my initial consult, so, I haven't even met Dr. U yet. I think this is making me even more nervous than what I need to be. I'm hoping to get my surgery in by the end of the year. Appreciate anything you can share.

    Dr. Udelhofen!

Dr. U will be doing my gastric bypass as well (hopefully in December). I've been trying hard to find people who have had him as a surgeon and it's been tough. Have you had your surgery yet? How did it go?
  15. Good Morning Everyone! So I have to tell my Father that I'm having the surgery on November 10th and I'm telling him tonight. I'm really nervous about it. He is the sweetest thing on Earth so I'm probably causing my own anxiety. The thing is my Aunt Susie (whom I'm named after) had a gastric bypass 46 years ago<<<yes you heard that right 46 years ago! In those days they reversed the operation after the patient lost their weight. My Aunt had the first operation with flying colours. The reversal was another story. After surgery while still in the hospital she got sepsis and eventually went into a coma and passed away. She was only 31 years old with two young children. It is a tragic, tragic story and I'm sorry for telling it however I don't want my Dad to be completely freaked out. I'm not at all freaked out. I have been on this journey since August 2019 and I have gone through all the medical and psychological testing required. I've done my research and the team that is taking care of me is from a "Bariatric Centre of Excellence". I'm not afraid. I'm excited. Besides that I'm pretty healthy. So any advice? What would you say? Would you even tell him? Suzanne

    Stricture repair

I am so sorry you're going through this and experiencing the pain that I'm going through. I've been having some severe pain since the revision on October 6th. I'm going to a follow up appointment today so I'm going to see what they say . I hope you don't have to go back into surgery again... it all becomes a little discouraging. You go in to have surgery to fix one problem and come out having numerous. Good luck with everything and please keep me posted. ❤️

My friend, who had bypass, told me to use my frozen fruit and blend it with a vanilla protien shake. They are really good. Sent from my SM-J810M using BariatricPal mobile app
  18. Wow, that’s rough. I don’t think I’ve ever heard of anyone being outright denied surgery because of the psychological evaluation (not that it’s never happened; I just haven’t heard about it). I have heard of people being required to get psychological treatment before getting approval for surgery. Did the psychologist say anything about that? Maybe you can wait until he sends the full report and see what it says, because it seems very strange that he would just say you’re a lost cause and will never be able to get the surgery. A lot of us have a bad relationship with food and issues with emotional eating and still get the surgery. Is it possible to get a second opinion From another psychologist? That said, you probably shouldn’t get the surgery until you’re mentally and emotionally ready for it. It’s a big commitment and a hard journey, and you pretty much only have one shot (ok, you can get a revision, but even that doesn’t usually work as well as the original surgery) and you don’t want to waste it. So it might be worth getting some treatment for your emotional eating before you get surgery.

    Regained weight support

Yes, very true. Thank you Ms sss and Stella. Very true. And the shrinking Chef - I agree - doing this revision, I will give it my all. 2020 is a such a bad year as it is....2021 will be amazing!

    Regained weight support

Thanks Ms. sss - it certainly is a tough call. I paid $16,000 in 2009 for the lap band that is now being taken out. MGB will be an additional $19,000. Believe me, I am all for investing in myself but its a hard pill to swallow if it is only for another 5-10 years. The trend seems to be after a certain amount of time, people are following low cal, exercise, feel like they are starving themselves and nothing is happening. Weirdly enough, weight gain is my least worry. Sure, it will frustrate me, but any medical complications scare the bejesus out of me! I'm hearing ulcers and yet more revisions? I'm 50 now; I don't really want to be having surgeries in my 60's and 70's when the risks become greater. My surgeon/clinic provides support etc for 5 years. I think that says a lot as well. Its not lifetime. One side of me says, just do it - you have read enough to know it will help you stay on a healthy lifestyle. And the other says, get a personal trainer and have him/her weigh you in 3 days/week to be accountable. I don't have to make the decision today. I am grateful for site's like these that can assist in decision making. Back in 2009 there wasnt much support for the lap band.

    Hate bypass

I had my RNY Gastric Bypass 10yrs ago in November. I don’t relate to losing slow with the bypass. I was under my goal weight by 7 months with mine.
  22. Yeah I thought it was a formality too. And I tried my best to 'tell them what they wanna hear'. I mentioned I was a emotional eater and thought the bypass would help with that. I also have a anxiety condition. I think I fu*ked up.
  23. Can anyone recommend gastric bypass surgery done in Europe? I am from the UK and am looking to go private .
  24. Hi I just had my psychology assessment for gastric bypass. The psychologist recommended I DONT go for the surgery. Saying I have a bad relationship with food and wouldnt be able to commit to the lifestyle changes. This has thrown off the surgeon. He needs to wait for the full report of this. But has said he wouldnt go through with it if the surgery would make me worse. The surgery is still planned for the 31 st Oct and my pre assessment tests is this Thursday. I am seriously worried it will get cancelled. The hospital is in the UK, I am worried if I get cancelled here, my chances would be slim with other hospitals too. I am starting to think about surgery abroad. I am upset. I paid £250 for this psychology assessment and I ve already taken out a loan for the surgery. Thoughts ?

    November 2020 sleevers

Generally you see if you have a hiatal hernia and check for gastritis. If you have either, a sleeve could make things worse and they’d generally opt for a bypass.
