JUNE SURGERY BUDDIES
SleeveToBypass2023 replied to Mira88's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Went to my pre-op appt today at the hospital for my revision on the 28th. Tomorrow I'm doing my pre-op appt with my surgeon. I'm usually really strict with my diet, but since my birthday is Friday, I may splurge a little and get a mocha frappaccino from Starbucks and an apple fritter from the bakery by my house. Normally I would NEVER do that, but it's kind of my last hurrah before my revision surgery lol -
WHAT does religion have to do with me having surgery??????
Gabbie-1 replied to SleeveToBypass2023's topic in Rants & Raves
I am a Christian and proud of it! Never the less Who are they to judge? Christ does not want Christians to judge others. I had revision band to RNY 5/15. I applaud you for taking this difficult step. Oddly people think you walk in have a quick simple procedure and the weight Miraculously starts melting away. They turn a blind eye to years of struggles, the fight to be approved and the work before and after surgery. -
HELP!!! Revision - Sleeve to MGB
catwoman7 replied to cocoduan's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
milk and yogurt both contain lactose, which is a sugar - but it's not ADDED sugar (unless you're eating sugar-sweetened yogurt). I never worry about lactose. It's not a "bad" sugar, and the amount of protein in milk and yogurt offsets any negative. yellow stools (or any weird color, for that matter) aren't usual the first month or two after surgery. The digestive system has changed and it takes a couple of months for everything to settle down. I think mine looked normal again after 4-6 weeks (it's been a few years so I don't remember exactly) weight loss is usually slower with revisions. And if you're still on liquids or purees, no, you're not going to feel restriction. Those go through you pretty quickly (or in the case of fluids, they go right through you). Plus you've likely had nerves cut that'll take a few weeks to regenerate. You should start feeling restriction about the time you move to solid food. -
HELP!!! Revision - Sleeve to MGB
cocoduan posted a topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Hi all, Im 37 and injust got my MGB revision 20 days ago. I was sleeved 10 years ago and never reached my goal weight. After babies and hormonal BC i gained a lot back. I feel surprised now tho. I feel i havent loose much these days. I just started Phase 3 and where i live (Middle east) is very hard to find sugar free, fat free products and im wondering if is the greek yogurt (flavored) and the protein drink the ones that arent helping. Both say they dont have added sugar but have sugars at the end. Also i dont feel there is really a restriction in my stomach. Im still hungry, i can eat half cup of food, i can drink a whole glass of water with no issues... such a different experience than the sleeve. Im scared of failure. Im passing very light yellow stools i dont know why and is so painful. Sometimes i wonder if there was a surgery after all. Any ideas of why this weight loss is so slow? -
Lizrios My surgery 5/15 and I am 71. Revision from Band to RNY I am doing good now! Still need a nap daily. Could be I am not walking enough and struggle getting protein in. Overall good though

I had the gastric sleeve in 2013 and lost 110 lbs. I didn't fix what was wrong in my head that made me overeat. I've gained 75 lbs back. I'm so disappointed in myself. I have since worked on my issues. I am having trouble losing any weight on my own though. I am thinking of a revision to the sleeve or a lap band. Has anyone been in my position and had either the revision or lap band and lost again? Will insurance cover it? I have Anthem. Any advice would be welcome.

Hi there!!! I just got my revision surgery date today. It's June 28th. My hospital pre-op appt is June 12th and my pre-op appt with my surgeon is the 13th. Super excited to finally get back to my life!!! I actually loved my sleeve, but the horrible GERD, esophagitis, and gastritis it caused pretty much brought my health, weight loss, working out, and overall happiness to a screeching halt. BUT....now that I have my surgery date, I'm super excited to get my life back and finish my weight loss journey!!! Happy June surgeries everyone!!!! -
FINALLY FINALLY FINALLY have an update on my revision!!
SleeveToBypass2023 replied to SleeveToBypass2023's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ok so HOLY CRAP. I just got the call and my revision surgery is going to be on the 28th of June!!!! Apparently someone's insurance didn't approve their surgery and they had to cancel their surgery and I got their spot. I was told my pre-op appt with the hospital is on the 12th, my pre-op appt with my surgeon is the 13th, and I have to do iron infusions before surgery (first one on the 14th, 2nd one on the 21st, and 3rd one on the 28th after surgery). My iron is really low because of all my procedures, but they said it won't affect my surgery since I can have the infusions. My mind is literally blown. I wasn't expecting this AT ALL. This is really fast!!! But at least it's FINALLY happening and I can get back to my life sooner rather than later!!!! -

Sleeve to RNY
SleeveToBypass2023 replied to MissRI's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I'm going to be getting my revision sometime in July. My surgeon said that with the revision, expect to lose about 40-45% of the weight you would have lost if it was your original surgery. So he said I could expect to lose about 60-65 pounds in a year for my current weight and BMI. I lost 116 pounds in a year with the sleeve, so if I can lose another 65 pounds in a year with my revision, I'll be ecstatic. I'm really good at watching my diet and working out, so I think my "dream goal" is to lose 75 pounds in a year with the revision, but my "realistic goal" is the 60-65 in a year. We'll see. I would be lower than I am now if I hadn't run into so many complications and health issues. But this revision is going to get me back to living my life so I can refocus on my health and weight loss. -
FINALLY FINALLY FINALLY have an update on my revision!!
SleeveToBypass2023 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So I have been really quiet on here because I was just trying to get rid of the last of the health issues I had going on. Polyps are gone and uterine fibroids are gone. I had an appt with my bariatric surgeon today and we discussed getting the revision now that I have a clean bill of health. Looks like it'll be mid July sometime. BUT...my revision is a little more complicated. Here's what I was told: Normally they leave the bottom part of the stomach when they do the bypass because there might be a need for a feeding tube at some point, or something like that. HOWEVER, with my situation, the part they would normally leave is where all the polyps were. So the surgeon is going to completely remove the bottom part of the stomach (making my stomach about 2oz instead of the 4-5oz it is now) during the bypass surgery. He said that's not ideal, but given my situation, it's the best course of treatment for the GERD, esophagitis, gastritis, and getting me back to being able to work out and live a normal life again (which is really all I want). He said it does present a problem later on if I need a feeding tube or whatever, but that's a big "if", and considering all of my issues right now, it's worth the risk, if I agree. I agreed with him and I'm waiting for the coordinator to call me to schedule the surgery officially. I'm so close to this being over. I can see the finish line FINALLY!!!!! -
I'm not a revision, but an eight year "vet" on here. Most people don't lose weight nearly as fast after a revision as they do after a "virgin" surgery. And also, you do have some control over that. You probably won't be able to eat much for the first few weeks after the surgery because of the swelling and healing, but once you're through that, you do have some control over how many calories you're taking in. You can always bump them up a bit if you think you're starting to lose too much weight
-
Curious how many of you have had the revision. I’m concerned with weight loss as I don’t want to lose too much. I have horrible acid reflux so I am opting the sleeve to RNY this month. I have my date of the 13th a How much on average did everyone lose? Ty in advance

Thyroid Cancer after MGB, has anyone gone through this?
Isabel1246 posted a topic in Mini Gastric Bypass Surgery Forum
I am 7 months post op from my revision from sleeve to MGB and weight loss is at 85.5 pounds after surgery on 11/2022. I was just diagnosed with Follicular Thyroid Cancer and in the works of getting answers as to what the next steps are. My question is I am wondering if anyone has gone through this with weight loss surgery. If life is relatively the same and will losing weight be the same so long as I continue with the gym and my meal plans.- 2 replies

Surgeon suggested bypass instead of sleeve.
Shanna NYC replied to areyoukiddingme's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I am 41 and today marks 8 weeks post-op from my bypass. It was my choice to go the bypass route from jump and my surgeon agreed with my decision. Yes in the very beginning, you are not only limited on what to eat, but even the capacity to eat (or even the desire). It would be the same with the sleeve either way because of the swelling the small pouch can only hold so much. It gets easier as time passes. To date I have not had any dumping issues. I know it is not the same for anyone regardless of which surgery, but I have tolerated all foods I've tried to date. I have been cleared for basically everything in moderation, still trial and error as I haven't tried it all yet. I have eaten out several times since about 4 weeks post-op and most places easily have things that can be ordered or slightly modified to suit our needs. Soups or a protein and veg are fairly easy to find on most menus. Grilled chicken sandwich minus bread with a side salad. Breakfast is even easier. I either end up with a to go container for another meal or two, or my boyfriend eats extra, lol. I do enjoy cooking and have had no issues with finding recipes to make my own. Flavor and variation is key. You can easily keep your cookbooks and find some substitutions for higher fat/carb/sugar items. I think it's much easier now than many years ago to find healthier alternatives. And while I know many people can be successful with the sleeve, I personally know a number of people who have had more regain. Some regret not having the bypass, or have gotten revisions years later. -
The little things no one has mentioned
Tomo replied to £€@h's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yeah, everybody is different. I was able to sleep in any position after both the vsg and rny revision. Although I have seen many posts talking about sleeping in a recliner. Not sure about the dry mouth problem... I experienced that before surgery but I have asthma and sleep with my mouth open often. I remember whenever I went on any strict diet, especially if there was fasting involved. I would get funky breath due to not eating but because I had to drink Water all the time after WLS, and I eat every 2 hours, I didn't have the dry mouth problem either. -
I agree with all the others that it sounds like reflux. I had silent reflux for years. The burning feeling would only go away temporarily after I ate something and then it would come back. Omeprazole worked for a few years, then it didn't. Then they kept switching me to find one that worked. Usually H2s or PPIs and/or diet change will take care of it for most people. Unfortunately for me, I was in the minority and my burning throat no longer responded to anything. After a few more years of misery, I finally had the RNY revision because I was told I was putting myself at unnecessary risk of throat cancer if I continued without revision. Feel better soon.

Surgeon suggested bypass instead of sleeve.
MelvaJ replied to areyoukiddingme's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I had the sleeve done in 2017 and lost about 75 lbs. I have gained about 20 of that back now. BUT the main reason I am having a revision done is because of the awful acid reflux I've had since my sleeve surgery. It seems to be getting worse too. I am 63 yrs old but I just can't handle it anymore. If I'd have known this before, I would definitely have done the bypass then. -

I have both the vsg and rny (revision due to gerd almost 2 years ago). It is true there are mixed results. I am one of the lucky ones. I've been using patches for many years with good blood tests results. Very rarely adding any other vitamins. Occasionally, I may see a slight decline trend (but not nutritionally deficient) of a vitamin, for example, vitamin A, and I may add a high ADEK for awhile.

May 2023 surgeries
Y. Hightower replied to WVJess2Less's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Surgery done on May 31st and it went good. My doctor was pleased. I took a nausea pill before surgery and a patch was placed behind my ear for nausea. So no nausea for me!! I stayed overnight and walked every 2 hours. I am able to keep liquids down with no problem but I get full quickly. I had revision surgery distal bypass. I am sore but I take the liquid Tylenol for that. I'm not hungry, but I am sipping on Premier Protein clear and the milky Protein Premier. -
Nervous about gastric sleeve
LindsayT replied to Breezy_'s topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I pondered that question for months. I have GERD and didn't want to risk it getting worse, so I chose the bypass. Because I knew I didn't want a revision surgery, it was easy for me to make the choice once got past the idea of dumping syndrome. Each surgery comes with its list of pros and cons, it comes down to what you're willing to live with. -
