Side effect of post op antibiotics maybe. The only thing that helps me is diflucan and many doctors will prescribe over the phone... Especially if they recently prescribed you antibiotics. First try your surgeon, then your gyno, then your pcp. Remember probiotics and yogurt. -
Early on I planned my meals/snacks in my food tracker the night before. Then printed it and put times next to meals based on my calendar. Then checked things off. That way if I knew I was in meetings all morning...I could plan 1/2 a protein bar on a break...if I was at my desk maybe it was yogurt and fruit. I'm actually going back to this method this week because I've gotten cocky and haven't tracked the past few months...also haven't lost during that time Good luck!

After a history of surgeries including gall bladder, female issues resulting in a hysterectomy appendix and a few others I though I was gong to be ok. I went back to college after a 20 year hiatus as well as working full time. Then in December of 2011 during finals week I awoke with the worst pain ever. I was rushed to the ER only to find that I had a soccer ball sized mass wrapped around my left kidney causing it to just about rupture..thankfully the doctors and the grace of God saved the kidney and then removed the mass. After a week of being home is when the disaster actually started. you see my colon perforated which caused everything in my intestine to fill into my abdominal cavity and then rip my incision open..in short I ended up with a colostomy then a reversal and then several hernia repairs. Sadly this past February my full abdominal mesh became infected resulting in 2 majors surgeries to remove. I needed to lose weight before the mesh could be replaced however after all my surgeries the surgeon was very reluctant. I went on phentermine and it did help however you cannot stay on it forever. Then I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism, the my numbers hit diabetic type 2 levels and with being in menopause it was so hard to get the weight to stay off...Finally my surgeon agreed to the gastric sleeve. After 6 months of of going through all the insurance mumbo jumbo I had the sleeve done on August 8th 2016.I started in March of 2016 at about 241 ponds and right before the surgery was 199 pounds.I just came home yesterday after having the surgery and was put on a heart medication due to my heart rate unable to stay at a low and healthy number. I feel ok but this Jello diet is already old...lol..after my colon perforated in 2011 I was on broth and jello for 2 months..so you can see those 2 things are not my favorite. I think the hardest part right now is the drinking..I am not a huge drinker so staying hydrated is a challenge..I do like popsicles so my husband is on the lookout for sugar free ones which will definitely help. Once I get to the stage of yogurt I think I will be ok.. As you can see I have had a long hard road and I thank you all in advance for offering me a group to look to for help. I am so afraid that going off the phentermine is going to make my weight increase quickly and I do not want that. any advice is greatly accepted and appreciated. God Bless to you all

Hello everyone. First post
Chelly replied to michellew1's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Welcome Michelle, This is a great place to come to talk and ask questions. Let me tell you a little about me. I am seven months out and I feel great. I had no major complications from the surgery. I eat at restaurants when I go out socially. I eat a variety of foods. I find by trail and error that I can eat certain fishes over others. I can eat turkey and chicken only in certain forms. I can eat beef if it's slow cooked and soft. I prefer Egg Beaters over eggs but can eat regular eggs too. I eat reduced fat cheese and some times with crackers. I eat greek yogurt with Splenda and sometimes fruit because regular yogurts have to much sugar. I eat a Quest Protein Bar every day and a Protein shake every day to make sure I get in enough protein in. I drink plenty of Water. Probably enough to fill an ocean. LOL. I eat fruit and vegetables. The most important thing you can do is listen to your surgeon and nutritionist and follow the guidelines they give you. Always eat first of all your protein and drink all your water every day. Your feelings are normal about this surgery and you will be glad you did it. I wish you success on your journey into this new chapter of your life. -
So whats your meal plan 6 or more months out now
jess9395 replied to jaysleever's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Seven months out here. I am in the several small meals rather than 3 meals a day camp. Breakfast/first meal in the morning I usually do a Protein shake. Sometimes I will do a NF cappucino and then have a Protein Shake later in the day. Then I have 3-5 other small meals that typically consist of one of these things: Greek yogurt (Chiobani 100, Dannon light & fit or Fage) 1oz turkey Jerky Sharp cheddar made with 2% milk String cheese Thin sliced cold cuts Poached chicken breast 1/3-1/2 of a pure protein or Quest bar Raw veggies with Fage mixed with ranch dressing mix 1oz almonds or cashews 1/2 c Turkey chilli 2 turkey meatballs w/marinara I will usually pair one or two of these small meals with a carb like 1/4-1/2 cup berries, melon, plums, apricots Hummus with veggies Roasted root vegetables Sliced tomatoes with balsamic and olive oil and basil Small salad with full fat dressing Flat out low carb wrap (1/2) or a low carb tortilla (1/2) A couple of times a week I will splurge and add in something the family is eating or eat out. I don't deny myself a bit or this or that including.... A few French fries A cheese won ton (had this today!) Half a slice of thin crust pizza Insides of a street taco Popcorn at the movies Chick fil a grilled nuggets A few bites of almost anything my husband or kids order I have completely stayed away from bread, rice, sugar drinks including juice, Pasta...other than that I don't have any forbidden foods....including a very occasional dessert. I eat around 800 calories a day, typically 70g protein (60+) less than 60 carbs (usually less than 40). -
I was sleeved on March 5th at approx 0800. My journey started a few years ago. I started tossing the idea of bariatric surgery around when I kept gaining and gaining weight. My dr kept doing test to see if there was a reason, and adding meds to my regimen because I was being diagnosed with different things. I talked to my dr about it and went through the initial seminar that the local bariatric surgeon has. That's as far as I went that time. I met my wife and realized that I wanted to be healthy. I wanted to be around for her and my children. Her and I talked and she pushed me to go back to the dr and start the process again. I am a paramedic for the city we live in and she is an EMT. A nurse at one of the ER's had recently had gastric bypass. My wife spent about an hour one night talking with her and her experience. She recommeneded the surgeon she used. He had practiced at the local trauma hospital and done the gastric surgeries there. Our friend had had great success and had nothing but great things to say about Dr. Allen. I did some research into the different types of surgeries that were being performed and decided that I really wanted the sleeve. I contacted Dr. Allen's office and scheduled to go through the seminar again. By this time I had almost completed the 6 month weight loss study with my primary dr. After the seminar I submitted the appropriate paperwork and was pre-approved. I met with Dr. Allen and informed that at that time he was not doing the sleeve. He suggested the bypass for me. I decided it was the next best thing; I was NOT having the band done. lol Dr. Allen wanted a few approvals from my primary physician before surgery. I had to have a EKG, and Pulminary Function Test. The PFT came back obstructed at the dr's office so I was sent to a pulmonologist. I was very discouraged. I met with the pulmonologist he sent me to and was told there was a chance I had COPD. Again, more discouragement. The pulmonologist was not about to sign off on letting me have surgery since the intubation could be bad for me. He wanted me to use an inhaler and CPAP at night for 6 weeks and come back for a follow up PFT. 6 Weeks later I was back. The PFT was enormously better, and I felt ENORMOUSLY better. Best of all, he APPROVED ME FOR SURGERY. My primary physician signed off ok'ing it as well. It was time for the waiting game with the insurance company for approval. A few weeks later on Feburary 5th at 1300, I recieved a phone call from the surgeon's office that I had been approved and my surgery date was March 5th. They gave me the date and time for the pre-op meeting and test. And the best of all, the information on the 1500 calorie diet I was to follow for 2 weeks prior to my surgery. 2-weeks prior to surgery my wife went to the store, stocked up on slim-fast shakes and frozen lean cusines and I started this crazy 1500 calorie diet. I was approx 390-400 lbs. It wasn't as bad as I expected. The day before surgery a few of my friends from work and my wife took me out for my "last meal". I went to the local BBQ shack and had a full rack of ribs. Normally, before the diet I could clean them off and still be hungry, however, I ended up sending almost half of them home with a co-worker! We then had a small desert and sat and talked for about an hour. It was the last time I really ate "real" food. The next morning my wife and I were up at 0430 getting showers and packing bags for my hospital stay. I was told to be prepared for a 3 day hospital stay. Surgery began at around 0900 and I was out and in recovery by 1030. No problems with sedation or intubation. However, I was slightly oversedated and sent to the ICU for the night because they were worried about the sedation and my sleep apnea becoming a problem. I don't remember much of this. The most I remember is having a cathader that I kept asking to be taken out and waking up with the CPAP mask on at one point. The next day at around 0800 I was taken for a swollow study (worse tasting stuff in my life). Everything looked great! Cathader was taken out and I was released to drink clear liquids! A few hours later I was moved out of ICU up to a regular floor bed. My wife spent hours with me at the hospital, encouraging me to get up out of bed to walk and get the gas off my stomach. She made sure that I was getting adequate nutrition as well as enough Water to drink. She even brought me fat free milk! On the Friday after surgery I called her to come get me. They removed my JP drain and got me ready to go. I was able to go home and get a FULL NAP!!! I actually felt good enough when I woke up to go to the grocery with her to get some broth, Soups, and yogurts. Since then, I am down to only 1 pain pill a day if I go out for a long period of time. I haven't gone back to work, but don't have a follow up until Monday. I'm hoping to get the staples taken out of the incisions on Monday as well. They itch like crazy. And I'm super excited to start the mushy stage of my diet. I'm ready to get back to the gym and start walking and riding the bike and lose some of this weight a little quicker. I'm amazed at the little amout that I'm eating and it's keeping me satisfied. I already have more energy than I did before the surgery and I am able to stay awake longer during the day. I did cheat yesterday and had 1 lean hotdog. I ate it very slowly and didn't drink anything with it or afterwards. I didn't get sick, but I felt 100x's better afterwards. Guess, we're not all perfect lol Hope everyone else that has been sleeved is doing well also, and everyone getting ready to be sleeved is excited!

New here! 1 week post op
JamieLogical replied to bmontiville's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I had to experiment with various protein drinks post-op, because my tastes for them definitely changed and some were less pleasant than others for my new sleeve. The ones I ended up drinking were EAS AdventEDGE Carb Control, which I bought at Walmart and Target. Another thing you can try to do is add unflavored whey protein powder to your soups and yogurts. Just be careful when adding it to soup. If the soup is too hot, it can cause the powder to curdle. -
Foods to eat on soft food diet
liannatx replied to banksdea's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Canned chicken breast makes an easy and moist Chicken salad... just drain and mix with some Miracle Whip. A scrambled egg. Refried Beans with cheese. Dannon Light & Fit Greek yogurt is great (I still love and eat it almost every day). I was able to eat fish on soft foods, and Tilapia was very easy for me. -

jaysleever posted a topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
basically I only have 3 meals a day no Snacks Breakfast might be greek yogurt or eggs scrambled with small cup of fruit or meat and veggies. lunch and dinner is meat and veggies or an occasional whole grain whole wheat with ham slices and mustard. I drink mostly Water with occasional crystal light I try to limit carbs to under 60 grams a day meat mostly consists of ground beef, turkey, chicken. Ill make the occasional beef or chicken stew with a pressure cooker. I dont eat rice or potatoes dont want the trigger foods. carbs crave carbs especially simple carbs. what i put in my body will influence what i will crave and influences hunger i use 85percent lean ground meat. once in a while Ill make pork like pork chops veggies mostly consist of broccoli, spinach, or string Beans sometimes carrots but carrots have a lot of sugar in them so I def limit them. sometimes asparagus steak sometimes but i cut it into strips and do a stir fry. so let me know what you guys think Im interested to know your input -
Post-Op Panic - They Can Reattach It, Right?
BarrySue replied to LemonMarie's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Your ability to tolerate liquids will increase. If Protein shakes are giving you trouble, check with your doctor for other options (For a couple days I refused to eat anything because I HATED the shakes). He switched me to greek yogurts and a special low carb/high protein milk to replace the shakes, and I felt better. Don't be afraid to collaborate with your doctor to find a successful plan for you (just make sure it's with your doc, not solely with random internet posters). Also, breathe. It gets better, I promise. -
Not feeling full
OutsideMatchInside replied to Yaya B's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm drinking soup and eating yogurt. Sent from my SM-G900V using the BariatricPal App You are never going to feel full on that, those are liquids. When you eat some meat, you will learn what full feels like -
Nervous
IncredibleShrinkingMan replied to jessicamanus23's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I did not do liquids, as he didn't ask me to. I lost 20 lbs in the two weeks of pre-op, but I cheated like there was no tomorrow (and if you think about it, that was reality). I had pizza four times, Italian sausage twice, clam chowder once, Belgian fries with all the dippings twice, and fell for Chipotle once. The rest of the time I had high-Fiber Cereal with greek yogurt, or else some extremely lean meat. I was sure to workout like hell while this occurred, because exercising was a lot easier for me than staying under 1000 calories a day (which was the requirement...and by the way, that is still hard now three months out, but I am losing weight just fine). There were no problems with my liver, and I was 286 (44 BMI) at my final pre-op appointment. Instances of cancellation are rare and occur in extreme cases (hundreds of pounds heavier than you or me), so I would take this day to relax and get in the zone...you've done it, and psychologically, you should be on the other side already. Congratulations. -
What's Your Trick To Keeping Meat Moist Enough To Not Upset Your Sleeve?
Lissa replied to AllForMy4's topic in Food and Nutrition
I use salad dressing: ranch, vidalia onion, and italian are my current favorites. I either cook the food in the dressing or use it as a dip. Egg Face has a ton of recipes for dips made from greek yogurt and other liquids if you like different flavors. I'm still working on the flavor/spice thing as far as my tastes go, so dressing works well for me. I adore cocktail sauce these days, too! -
Just wondering, I am at almost a year post surgery and I have been at a stall for months now. Has anyone not exercised much and still lost weight? Looking for menu ideas for day to day. I know I need to cut down on my carbs especially bread :-( I still cant eat much at one sitting and I do eat 4-5 times a day from yogurt to protein bars to protein filled meals. Do you eat red meat or did you make the switch to turkey and chicken only? I want to break this stall. I cant do protein drinks mainly because I got burnt out on them from pre surgery and post surgery. The banana one is the only one I can get down these days. I cant do the gym, I am looking into streaming the videos from beachbody.com. Just getting frustrated.

Lap band 03-02-09
YngGram replied to boknowsbo2@bellsouth.net's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I got my band on 3-9, I am on full liquids--Carnation Instant Breakfast Drink (no surgar added), High Protein Slim Fast. I use the powder with skim milk. My doc says no 1% or 2% as it has to much fat. No sugar popciles, crystal light, tea and water. I can have apple or grape juice that is cut with water. I plan to have some egg drop soup next week as I head into the mushies just because I miss something that has a good taste. I can add yogurt and cottage cheese next. -
Click HERE (LBT thread on Greek Yogurt). I love the stuff...it's replaced reg. yogurt and sour cream for me. I doctor it up all kinds of ways...just this week tried adding the Knorr Veg. Soup mix as a dip for veggies and I love the preserves with it.

yogurt, fruit, ice blender....smoothy!

Syntrax Nectars are Whey Isolate I think and they are wonderful. I add just a small amount of apple juice to enhance the flavor and I love them! Gold Standard makes a great product as well that is whey isolate. I became lactose intolerant after surgery and cannot eat cheese, yogurt or anything with dairy. But these protein drinks are fine... Somebody Please Respond Just a Few ?s
Wheetsin replied to Chris1982's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Ok everyone here is the thing, I'm being banded on 1/25/07, and I just have a few more questions to ask. Ok on the two week pre op diet should I A. Stop smoking until after surgery, and B. should I go on this 10 days or 14 prior to surgery date, because all I am allowed is glucerna weight loss shakes *very expensive* juice broths teas lowfat or plain yogurt not very exciting haha. Ask your surgeon. Each has their own pre- and post-op guidelines. Also what kind of anasthesea do they use is like gas or is it like the liquid valume stuff they pump in your iv. In the prep area I was given some kind of liquid thruogh my IV that made me a little loopy. They called it "happy juice" and "milk of amnesia". In the OR I was given gas. The last thing I remember before waking up was them putting the mask on... it was a little crooked on my face, and I thought - "All the gas will leak out and I'll never fall asleep..." Then I was waking up. Or does it depend. Also what I want to ask is some statistics like how many ppl have their band after years of having it in, Well, then you'd have to know specifically what you want to know. "How many people after years" is impossible to answer. I know two sisters banded in 2001 and both still have their bands. or how many have died from it None to date, that I'm aware of. Refererring to the band itself. or how many bands have eroded etc. The erosion percentage is something like - less than one percent (if that's now inaccurate, someone please correct me). So find some literature and get a number of how many people have been banded, and multiply by .01 and that's your worst case scenario. Just a few scary thoughts. One other thing guys I can't sleep on my back I have to normaly sleep on my somache is this going to be a problem? I doubt you'll be able to sleep on your stomach, at least in the first week. It took me (I think) 2 days to get into my own bed. Until then I was sleeping in a recliner. Once in bed I slept on my back propped up on about 5 pillows, or on my side with a pillow under my stomach to support the port incision. How much pain medecine do they give you is it all liquid, how much pain are you in when you wake up from sugery? When asked to rate my pain on a scale of 1 - 10, which they asked me before I was fully awake, I answered "like a half". I just didn't have any pain. Within the first 45 minutes of waking up I was given a dose of hydrocodone. And upon release they have me a rx for a week's worth. I took about half of it, then went to liquid Tylenol. I didn't have significant pain unless I was standing, sitting, coughing, sneezing... or hitting potholes in the road. -
Pre-op diet tips?
lizonaplane replied to LizzLosingIt's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was told I could have tuna fish with light miracle whip or light mayo, chicken breast with curry/mustard/light mayo or a little bit of sugar free bbq sauce, salad with dressings that were 50 calories or less per serving (I have to keep carbs to 50 grams/day or less). I plan to eat a lot of salads with chopped deli meat or tuna because after surgery it will be a while before I can eat salad again and I love salad. I like the bolthouse yogurt ranch and it's 45 calories for 2 tbsp (30g). It's the the refrigerator case in the produce section usually. I have to have light greek yogurt or a protein shake for breakfast. -
Day 2 POST-OP, am i getting enough?
hazeleyegrl1 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
i was banded yesterday morning.....here's what i've had so far...am i getting enough??? 9/14 @ 3pm 2oz nonfat yogurt, 3oz chicken broth @ 7pm 4oz nonfat yogurt, 2oz chicken broth 9/15 @12:35Am 2oz nonfat yogurt @ 7:45Am 2.5 oz hot tea @ 8:25Am 1 tablespoon applesauce w/morning meds AND 1.5oz Protein shake @10:40Am 2oz nonfat yogurt @12Pm 3oz chicken broth @2:40pm 2oz small curd Lowfat Cottage cheese and of course, i sip on Water throughout the days as much as possible. so, by being 2 days post op, and my above food log...does it look like i'm getting enough? i know i think i need more protein....so for dinner tonight i'll try to get in a few more ounces of the protein. but from the above, what do ya'll think? AND WHEN WILL THE SORENESS AND THE DISCOMFORT GO AWAY?!!! i just want to feel back to normal again in my mid-section/tummy area! -
So this is my first journal entree. I think its a good day to make one. My surgery is on Thursday at noon. Today is Tuesday at 11:40 so its about 48 hours away. Everything happened pretty fast for me. I only went for my consultation last Friday and they had a cancellation so in I went. I have been on my horrible pre-op diet for 4 days now. I now hate yogurt. But I eat it cause i'm hungry and I always hated cottage cheese but i eat only about a tablespoon with every meal because I think I probably need the protein. I am actually excited to start the liquid diet because it means I will get a mix of juice and consume soup so I get the sweet and the savory instead of just berry flavored everything. Honestly right now my skim milk is the closest thing I have to something salty or not tasting of berries. I have lost 12 pounds in 5 days so I guess this diet is working. Everyone makes jokes like screw the band stick to yogurt. But I WILL DIE if i do that. My only saving grace is that tomorrow is the last yogurt day.
