I am a band to sleeve revision. I lost 50lbs with the lap band but put 25 back on. I had the revision done Aug.17th and so far no more pain and belching like with the band. I am 35 lbs total. I went 8 months completely unfiilled with the band to reduce all the swelling and inflammation, I did put on about 10 lbs during that time. It didn't bother me because I knew I was getting a revision. Don't sweat it and follow the steps so you can have the revision soon!! Good luck!!

Sorry wish I could help you just had revision on 9/27, but had band removed at same time. I had horrible success with the band mine slipped quite a few times so all Fluid would have to come out and would have to wait at least 3 months before starting the fills again. Good luck Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

Surgery tomorrow can't sleep
Whitefoot replied to Whitefoot's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Had my surgery. Everything went textbook. Took 3 hours. I did have revision from lapband to rny. Looks like I get a 4 night hospital stay just because of some additional swelling. Getting to stage two diet today. Woot woot. Walk walk walk. -
Having had my band and port removed, the thing I would watch for is a hernia. I developed a hernia from the port site, and had a second surgery to fix it, and its back. I am revising to bypass, so once my weight goes down, the surgeon will repair the hernia, hopefully for the last time! Hope you are feeling well!

Thanks for all of the support...I am going with the Bypass...I have a hiatal hernia, dial aged duct at the tail of my pancreas due to difficulty with my removed gallstones and the reflux in my stomach is out of control....No one is cutting my stomach after what I have put it through with the band....Next week is my endoscopy.I am building a case for a revision ...hopefully insurance will pay. -
Autoimmune Disorders and the Lapband NOT Compatable
Baba Wawa replied to Baba Wawa's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My concern in posting this is that we shouldn't encourage someone to get a device implanted just because we've had a good experience. Many people with ONE Autoimmune disorder often have other undiagnosed autoimmune issues that are found after a device such as the band, is implanted. My post isn't meant to be an alarm, but a word of caution when replying to a thread about which surgery to choose. On the other site I frequent there are multiple boards for each surgery, including revision. Literally hundreds of posts are made by people monthly who are having band troubles and needing to revise. About 75% revise to sleeve and are very pleased with the outcome. Shouldn't these 75% have just had the sleeve to start with and avoided the risk, pain, scar tissue, aftercare and expense of a second surgery? -
I was told about this app by another lady to help me get back on track. I had the lapband surgery in 2006, lost about 70 lbs, got pregnant surprisingly, and he moved the band. Had to have a revision and went to the sleeve. That was in 2010. I had gained about 40 lbs back and lost about another 75lbs again... however over the years and especially this last year I have put back all but 20 plus pounds of my original max weight. I still can't eat a lot but am eating all the wrong things. So this week starts me back over. Going back to the base diet requirements for getting ready for the surgery to psych myself mentally and physically back into gear. Lots of prayers and wishes and if anyone wants to help bust me to get on track... I would appreciate it. Sent from my SM-G530T using the BariatricPal App

HOLY BANANAS!! Fast Track and I am still debating
Matt Z replied to cmandrews13's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That's a fairly old report and does not include the rate of revision from Sleeve to Bypass in the "complications" It also seems to include the dumping in the Bypass but not for the Sleeve as far as "complications". The rate of Sleeve to Bypass revision is fairly high. This also doesn't include or account for the medical advancements that have become common practice over the past several years AND seems to include older post op issues from older forms of the surgery. And, lets talk about the fact that Gastric Bypass happens more often than the Sleeve, thus again skewing the real numbers. Case by case. They would come out about even. Except with the looming revision for the sleeve. I had the band. I needed revision. So I had to have 2 surgeries thus increasing my overall risk as opposed to getting the bypass first which would have lowered my overall risk. Any information, when taken without all facts can seem scary. But you need to look at the entire picture. 273 SGs were performed of which 6.6% (n = 18) were converted to RYGB most commonly due to inadequate weight loss (65.3%) and severe reflux (26.1%). https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/28416180 https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/29496440 You've got approx. a 10% chance that you'll need revision to another surgery. So, maybe 1 surgery vs 1 surgery without factoring in revision increasing the risks because now you've had 2 surgeries instead of 1, leaving out dumping for the sleeve but adding it in for the bypass, sure, it looks like the bypass is a much more dangerous surgery. When you factor EVERYTHING in... pretty sure they break even if not a little in favor of the bypass. You still can't undo the sleeve though, no matter what happens. 70-90% of your stomach is gone. Nothing usually gets removed in the bypass, just moved around. Again, either way. Good luck with your choice. -
HOLY BANANAS!! Fast Track and I am still debating
FluffyChix replied to cmandrews13's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes!!!! Sing it my sistah!!!! This surgery (both RNY and Sleeve) are largely what you make of them. But, the sleeve does carry a bigger risk of GERD and revision risks (IMHO). So if you have any reflux issues or asthma/upper respiratory issues, I'd sure choose RNY. -
Gastric sleeve revision and hernia repair
Chas74 posted a topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
So, I had my revision on the 11th and I'm at my post op appointment. I just met with the dietician and she sure busted my bubble when she told me not to expect to lose the weight like I did before. I'm going to ask the doctor when he comes in but that was a very discouraging thing to hear. Has anyone else been told this? -
SLOW RECOVERY?
slikchik10 replied to bandtovsgdone52813's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I too had a revision (5/20). Although mine has gone very well...I have been off work for 3 weeks and in the last week I discovered that being out that long was good. I teach middle school and decided to pop in for the last day's awards ceremony. I was wiped from just doing that. Then yesterday I went to wrap up my classroom....again, wiped out from something so piddle. I even conked out both Sat & Sun by sleeping most of the day away. And today would be my back to work day but we're out now. I can't imagine the classroom right now, whew! I say all this because I have to remind myself I'm healing from major surgery even though it didn't cut me wide open. My 45 yr. old body needs time. I rest when I'm feeling bad and move when I'm doing well...listen to those signals. You & I both know why we did this....otherwise choosing the band in the first place wouldn't have happened (6yrs. ago for me). I want permanent change and I have to work on it a day at a time. You've mentioned you've been through a lot, but think how much you're gaining through these lessons....patience, listening to the body's signals, etc. All things we've not really done before this experience. Chin up...know there's a bunch of us out here trudging along with you and wishing you well. Good luck! -

SLOW RECOVERY?
slikchik10 replied to bandtovsgdone52813's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yeah, unfortunately it's normal. I was walking an 18 min. mile pre surgery....I'm back to that, but again, things for me have gone really well. Since you've had such a traumatic experience with things, cut yourself some slack. This healing/recovery is WAY different from band recovery. I was up in a week after my band. This time I had the removal, revision, & hiatal hernia repair (I got a 2-fer). I'm currently discovering all the things I didn't know our diaphragm muscle actually does, (oweee!). So, I just go with the signals. I worked in my classroom yesterday...today, walking will be my task. I try to set small goals each day. Week one only had 1 "biggie" a day. My first big goal was to wash my hair in the kitchen sink. That was all I could do so the rest of the day I sat & slept. Look at daily tasks...pick one as a goal and go from there. You're doing fine and it WILL get better. Just remember, your timeline isn't the same as everyone else's. Just go with it! :-) -

Date is Set! Bye-Bye Bandie.
shedo82773 replied to Daisalana's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
MAN O MIGHTY you have had your share of it for sure!! My hubby had the Band for 13 years, they punctured it during his fill. Back to surgery he went. Now, he did lose 100#'s with his band. But his beginning weight was 520#'s. Now I'm not saying it was all from the band at that time. Fast forward to 2012ish he could not hold down even Water. He is a VETERAN so he went to the VA who sent him to a Bariatric Surgeon 2 hours from home. So in Sept they had planned to remove his band and his gallbladder, due to gallstones. Then revise him to a RNY. (which I had done July 2, 2013 and I have been very successful with mine) His band had eroded into his liver so they couldn't do the RNY. But told him that in 3 months they would finish the RNY. He developed abscesses and was so deathly sick for 9 months, 3 of which he doesn't even remember!! Oh course the Surgeon wouldn't do his surgery after all. He went to Portland, Oregon to an awesome Bariatric Center. By this time we found out that he has Kidney Cancer and they can't do anything for it until he loses 150#'s. So last June, we went to Juarez, Mexico. He went for the RNY but due to all of his past surgery's and his messed up band, his whole right side was solid scar tissue so he ended ugetting the Sleeve. He has lost 60#'s but he just can't fight the head hunger. The saddest part of all of this, was the Surgeon that talked him into the Band said he wasn't strong enough for the RNY. That man was so very strong and had just retired from his job!! I wish we al had a crystal ball back then it sure would have helped him out!! Now I didn't tell you all of this to scare you, I just wanted to vent AGAIN and to make sure that if you decide to go t0o Mexico for WLS please don't go thru BeLiteWeight. I have sense heard of many others having AWESOME AMAZING surgery's in Mexico just not where we went. It sure is much cheaper than the US but if we knew all about JUarez we sure woud have changed. The other sad thing is he has insureance that would pay for WLS, but he couldn't lose the amount of weight they wanted him to and get his A1C (diabetes 3 month of Blood Sugars) down to a 7 or 8. Good Luck and I look forward to following your post and watching you get healthy!! Thank you for listening. -
I’m assuming that post op diarrhea is normal due to the stages of eating . I just had a revision from band to rny on Thursday so I’m 6 days post op. I was just discharged Sunday . I’m on stage 1 of clear liquids still and protein. I’m gassy and every gas is watery stools and constant . I’m also on an antibiotic and the side effect could be the trots . I’m sure sugar alcohol had aggravated it too. I’m just worried about dehydration happening as I’m trying to stay hydrated . I did introduce a triple zero Greek yogurt today because I’m tolerating fluid fine just being slow as instructed . I have had waters, a premier protein shake , some broth, some high protein low sugar ice cream (Enlightened) so about 300 calories today . I’m probably extra gassy from the 3 net carb good for you ice cream but I was already pouring watery stools being just on clear fluids . I’m hoping that once other textures come back that this tapers off? Thursday they should start me level 2 since I ate Greek yogurt today as I consider it liquid once it goes in.

So i am working with a surgeon on getting the overstitch procedure done. I had surgery in 2006 at 292 and only lost about 50 pounds. I am now at 282 and my EGD tomorrow. I definitely have 6 months of documented weight loss attemps over the past few years 3 months was a medical weight loss place and immediately following 3 months with my doctor. I'm sorry to hear that the band is not giving you the results you had hoped. However, where are you reading that the sleeve "is the worst procedure"? It is true that early surgeons made the stomach too big in some cases, but now, experienced surgeons remove the stretchy part of the stomach AND make the remaining part very narrow. liquids flow without restriction but dense Protein stays and makes you feel full. There is usually some relaxation after a period of months-years but no one who has a sleeve can eat the same volume of food they could before surgery. I encourage you to read more here and on Obesity Help. We have a number of people who are band-to-sleeve revisions who are very happy they had sleeve surgery. And to answer your questions: I don't get hungry any more. I eat on a schedule so that I get my protein and fluids in, and I measure my food. Since I'm not hungry, I'm always content with the amount I have eaten. I have a hard time eating firm fish (salmon, mahi mahi) but I can eat steak, pork, chicken, seafood, eggs, sausage, etc. I am low-carbing to get the weight off fast but I anticpate eating everything in moderation when I am maintaining.

Has anyone had surgery with Humana as their insurance? If so, is the approval process through them easy? Original insurance was Cigna with the lapband 5 years. Now, I'm trying to have revision surgery to the sleeve with my company's new insurer. Any helpful information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Should I tell my co-workers?
Elisabethsew replied to roseyandmusic's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Weight has always been discussed about and around me. I was a chubby kid and a fat adolescent, and an obese adult. I've lost and regained hundreds of pounds and told two people that I was getting the band. Those same two people know I got a revision to VSG. Until I AM successful (as in 25 pounds from goal), my choice is to make this about me and not the opinions of others. That's how I feel at this stage of the game. -

Well, Good news Blis Ok'ed me after all for the band revision surgery to sleeve today. So I won't have to sign all my rights away after all to have the surgery. Though I am still self pay the Blis coverage will still be in effect for this surgery. YAY! Now to just take the class I missed due to this upset and I'm on for being sleeved June 20th!!!!!!! -

I had my revision from band to sleeve In Milwaukee, well, because I live here. Froedert has a really good program, have you looked into it? -
I am positive I am missing something here, lol. I registered at BariatricPal 7 years ago when I was getting a lap band. I am getting ready for revision to gastric bypass, but every time I try to search for something I get defaulted to the lap band forums. Is there a way to set preference? You would think I had never been on a forum before. Sheesh!

Dr. Aceves in Mexico is $12,500 for a revision surgery from band to sleeve. He is an excellent doctor and the hospital he works out of is like a 5 star hotel. He is very experienced with band to sleeve revisions and I would not go to anyone else. I didn't feel that way when I got banded, but Dr. Aceves really has a lot of experience and is an excellent surgeon.
