    Protein Bar?

Oh yea... those are pretty good as well. I think they have a couple different flavors now. I git the little snack-sized ones. I think they were around 100 calories and 10 grams of protein. They have standard-size ones, too
  2. I feel like I’m also a slow loser. I’ve averaged 8-10 pounds a month. Once I started cardio it went up to 12-14 pounds a month. Also try intermittent fasting. If you average 10 pounds a month that’ll be over 100 pounds in a year. Your doing great!! Also the average weight loss is 10-15 pounds a month after the first month.
  3. I’m 4 months out and have averaged about 10 lbs a month. I too was super frustrated, however the scale continues to move. I’m down 50lbs which is the most weight I’ve ever been able to loose ever. I’m currently 189lbs. I’d love to get to 125 but if I get to 150 I’ll be happy. I didn’t get this surgery to become a super model, I did it to get healthy and I’m feeling much better already. It is frustrating thinking everyone’s loosing more than you, faster than you, etc. But believe me, it will come off. Just keep doing what you’re doing. PS I actually feel like I’m loosing more weight after the first few months. It seems like it picked up a bit for me. Maybe the same will happen to you. pps make sure you drink your water and are going to the bathroom. That helps flush the weight out too.

Six months post-op+ : The Sophomores Thread

Sophomores, What do y'all think? https://www.eurekalert.org/pub_releases/2020-01/uoc--amw011620.php
  5. Has anyone gone through a post-21 day leak (that’s what my surgeon calls it). I am her first ever case and it has been a roller coaster. I was sleeved Oct 8, 2019. When I was 7 weeks post-op (November 24) I ended up in the ER for insane chills, vomiting, fever, and pain all over. Long story short I was life flighted to another hospital where I had a three week stay and they repaired the leak. It has been 6 weeks since the surgery and I barely started on liquids two weeks ago. I am getting so frustrated because I feel ready to eat soft/solids but my surgeon keeps putting it off. I am also on TPN, which means I’m stuck to an IV for 16 hours a day. I am just so over it and want to move on, but I worry it’ll never be normal again.

    January 2020 Surgery Date

Well here's my surgery story. My surgery was pushed back from 7:15 to 9:45am on Thursday, so at least I got to sleep later. Spent an hour of pre-OP getting IV, stomach shaved, pre-OP meds. Surgery started at 10 am, they gave versed and the only thing I remember was sliding over to operating table, then it wa lights out. Post-OP had quite a bit of pain, but nurses quickly gave meds to help, dilaudid works great. Had to spend some time in post OP waiting for a room. Once I got to roommgot some more dilaudid. Didn't have much nausea or pain. Got ice chips to suck on at first then switched to water. Has some stomach cramping when I sipped but it's just a small twinge and then it was OK. My biggest complaint is the kept coming every hour and waking me up for vitals, draw blood, get my blood sugar. I couldn't get any rest. Next day was better as I just asked them to try and group things so to give me more time to rest. Switched from IV pain meds to oral, liquid hydrocodone and liquid tylenol. The gave me some issues with nausea. Got about 4 hour sleep on Friday and Saturday morning got discharged. My incisions don't hurt much at all and I am doing good sipping water and protein shake. Takes me about 2 hours to get one shake down. Popsicles go down much easier for me. I got these below an fill the with protein shakes and protein water to make protein sicles https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01MTZWW22/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
  7. Help me!!!!! Surgery date was 11/25/2019 and obviously I was hurting my first week or so but after that, I felt invincible. I had low sugar yogurt, I was happy, losing weight, eating mashed potato. I even made jokes if I had surgery at all because I was hungry most of the time. I am now almost 2 months out and I am so sensitive to food now, I am guessing it’s because I was safe in a bubble of soft foods and now I’m back to work. I had a piece of chicken with some queso (huge mistake, lots of fat in the queso) I was vomiting for 3 hours small amounts of queso (sorry for the nasty detail) next day I had to go to school and I don’t like eating in the morning but I had early class and we can’t eat during because it’s in a lab and I had small bite of a softer granola, no peanuts nothing and I had to leave class because I was vomiting the morning and that night, I took a Bariatric multivitamin which are swallowable because chews make me feel bad and I hadn’t eaten much because of the morning pain and I woke up throwing up at 4 am. I throw up a lot if something doesn’t feel right even if it’s small where I use to never throw up. I know I’m still finding my way and I tell everyone, no pre op diet will prepare you for this journey. I need help with foods and what I can enjoy because I’m starting to get a bit sad where I was once super motivated. I don’t like to be sick but everything kinda hurts. I had soup with an egg which felt great and protein water for now... Day of surgery: 256 lbs Today: 217 lbs

    We will see

My sleeve was done 8/1/14. I had my hernia and esophagus repaired 12/2019. Bypass was the best option. However, not covered by my insurance. I knew this after months of appeals. Now, my surgeons and other doctors would like me have bypass. However, at this point I am not sure that is my best option. My sleeve is "perfect." I just don't want to have more complications. I just want to get healthier and lose more weight. That is happening because I can again barely eat. So, I am going to wait. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G935A using BariatricPal mobile app
  9. ** Semi-long post Alert ** OK, so I was prescribed a PPI for 6 months and I was happy as a clam. After the 6 months, I stopped cold turkey and had foamies, burning throat, and the occasional spit up at night. I did this for about 3 weeks, and asked my doc to be put back on my PPI, and all was good again. At around the 10 moth post op mark, I did some research and spoke to my doc about weaning off it again. Both my research and my doc said that doing it gradually is key and to not give up and go back to full dosage as I'd have to start all over again. I started with taking my 30mg pill every other day, for about 1 week, and I basically got the symptoms every other day for a month. So I went back to full dosage and tried again. Here is what I did/am doing/will do and so far it has been more bearable and seems to be working... Alternating days of 30mg and 15mg (half dosage) for a month 30mg every other day for a month 15mg every other day for a month << this is where I am at now and and so far so good. Come February, I plan on going to 15mg every 3 days, supplementing with a Zantac of other acid-reducer as needed. After a month of this I'm hoping I will be off the PPI altogether and maintain with Zantac. ...I could probably make this easier on myself if I cut out spicy foods and coffee, but I'm not willing to do that yet. 😡 ** BUT LIKE THE OTHERS HAVE SAID, TALK TO YOUR DOC AND COME UP WITH A PLAN TOGETHER **
  10. Hi! I’m 46, female and 5’ 4”. Like the OP, I also have PCOS.  RNY Bypass Surgery: 4/12/19 Highest weight: 278 Surgery weight: 263 Current weight: 168 Goal weight: 135 but I’d be pretty happy with 145. Best of luck with your surgery. My only regret these days is that I wish that I would have done this sooner!
  11. Hello New to site ... Last band May 2013 SW 255lbs CW 146lbs Mostly maintaining for 3 years, with some +/- 5lbs Since band I’ve had burping all the time. And reflux PBing on and off ... good spells and then bad spells, resulting in two emergency de-fills. Followed by re-fills after a few months. Never been able to eat fruit, some salads, egg white or anything firm or chewy ... now cook veg to soft. No digestive issues pre-band. In Sept 2019, I started struggling with regurgitation, so I started taking Omeprazole, which has helped, but not cured the reflux etc. In the last few weeks, I’ve also started struggling to drink enough water, and some days I’ve gone back to blending my food. We are long term travelling in Europe, so it’s not possible to see my consultant. Plan to take myself to local hospital to see if they can do a barium swallow, to check to see if the band has slipped. BUT, started to think that the band may not be a long term solution .... I’m only 55. Wondering if I should go for a sleeve. Just concerned about reading posts on here, reflux may not be cured by a switch to the sleeve. The bypass worries me as more severe. I will have to pay, so not a decision to be taken lightly .... Would those of you who have gone from band to sleeve describe your changes to reflux, burping and bringing up saliva? This wold be most helpful ... thanks in anticipation. K
  12. Things are going fairly well for the most part. My RNY surgery was on 12/09/19 and I have lost 30 pounds since the surgery. I have lost a total of 115 pounds total since starting this journey to a healthier me on 05/07/19, when I started my six month doctor supervised weight loss for the insurance clearance process. I was on a complete liquid diet for the first 28 days. I am on soft foods now since 01/07/2020 and have been having issues with nausea. I have asked my team about this and they think that it may still be swelling or my body may just take a little longer transitioning to the next stage. Said that if I am still have this issue in 3 weeks that they will perform another endoscopy to check and make sure there isn’t something else causing the issue. I also am having issues with constipation. I’m currently two teaspoons of Benefiber every day and this week I started taking Colace. I have been taking Milk of Magnesia 1 – 2 times a week. I also try to make sure I eat at least one container of yogurt every day. I think that it may be from not getting enough water each day. Most days I usually get around 60 to 70 ounces of fluids but prior to the surgery I was drinking 90 ounces plus a day. I do not regret having the surgery. I feel so much better. My back, knee and ankle pain is almost nonexistent now. I have gone from taking nine medications a day to taking four medications.

  15. Hi! I am a 54 year old female and I had my bypass in April of 2019. I started at 224 and I weighed 150 by October. I’m down to 141 now because I increased calorie intake and weight loss slowed down. Which in fact I like, it’s giving my brain time to “catch up” to my weight loss. Good luck on your journey!

    January 2020 Surgery Date

I went to the long awaited pre-op appointment today at Kaiser. I was there for 3.5 hours and I will have to go back on Monday to complete the disability papers. Appointment recap: I was weighed , 251.4 , BP 118/78 pulse 77. I was given a folder with the documents detailing my pre and post op dietary guidelines. 1 day liquid diet prior to surgery ( I put myself on the liquid diet to get the excess weight off gained from meds and etc.,I did it!!!) , 3 days clear liquids immediately post op, 14 days full liquid diet and I have to get my folder to properly explain the rest. I just remembered that 2/15/20 is my last day of the full liquid diet. I will go into the food more on another post. We went into vitamins and pain management, hydration, walking, miralax and prilosec. My hospital is providing an abdominal binder, which I thought was nice and saved me a few $$$. Went to give the lab an offering of my blood per usual , swung by admissions, spoke with the dietitian, the surgeon, I was asked to wear a light nail polish color if were to keep my nails, I was advised to wear something loose to the hospital and most people wear the same outfit home and choose slippers. Ohhhh, a hard one for me no chapstick!!!! I check in at 8:15 AM & surgery is at 10:19 AM on 1/31/20, with checkout being the next day on 2/1/20. I will have a private room and someone can stay there with me if I would like.

VGS scheduled for February - pain questions

I didn’t have much gas pain after my sleeve but definitely earlier last year when I had my appendix removed. Walking really helped, like a lot! I walked around the unit maybe 10 times in hrs 12-24 after surgery. And yes they release the gas but some does get trapped and some use heated and humidified gas as it helps to prevent the cellular death that causes the referred shoulder pain. If you’re worried about it, ask your doctor to go over step by step what will happen in your surgery including gas use.
  19. In never had gerd or acid issues until after my sleeve in May of 2019. After 2 months I tried to stop the Omeprazole and I had the worst acid reflux in my throat. Burning pain that hurt a lot. I realized then that this surgery has made me dependent on that omeprazole and I am really upset. I read that long term use can damage the kidneys. I want off of these capsules but each time I try to stop, I get the reflux and burning in my esophagus. Right now I'm trying to use Papaya enzymes to curb the acid. I have gone 24 hours without the omeprazole but every few hours I start feeling the gurgling burn starting up my throat. So I hsve resorted to chewing 4 papaya pills at least 3-4 times a day. Today I took an acid reducer called Famotidine. Its a small white pill 20 mg. tablet, it is known as a histamine-2 blocker which prevents stomach acid and treats ulcers. Does anyone know if this is safer long term than omeprazole? I only took 1 this afternoon and now my throat is starting to burn again at 10pm. I need to take anothervone to be able to sleep in peace. At least I only needed 1 omeprazole 40mg.
  20. I'm happy to announce that I made it to ONEderland! It happened on the 14th and it's been years since I was under 200lbs. My stats 10/16/19 RNY Gastric Bypass 256lbs preop 197lbs current 150lbs is GOAL! Sent from my SM-G950U using BariatricPal mobile app
  21. Sleeved 12/09/19 down 40lbs as of Wednesday 01/15/2020
  22. oh - and the serious complications you've read about. Very rare. I think you might think they're more common than they really are because people post about those because they're looking for advice and support. People who are 3-5-10-15 years out from surgery generally don't post to let the world know that everything is hunky-dory. I don't personally know anyone who's had any seriously complications, and you'll run into very few people on these and other boards who do. Most complications are minor and appear during the first few months (like strictures - which happen to about 5% of RNY patients). The only things I can think of that might happen long term are bowel obstructions (very rare) and vitamin deficiencies. Almost all vitamin deficiencies are preventable by keeping on top of your vitamins. The only exception I can think of is iron. There are some people whose bodies can't absorb oral iron properly, so they have to get occasional infusions. But other than that....??? Suffice it to say, serious complications are rare. Many of us never have any complications at all, and for those who do, they're almost always minor and "fixable" (I had strictures - one of the most common complications of RNY. I mentioned they happen to 5% of RNY patients. I would hardly call a 5% rate "common", but that does give you some idea of how common problems are. That is, they're not....)
  23. I was sleeved 12/23/19, down 23lbs. My HW 205, GW 130, Ht 5'1". We all lose at different rates. Dont compare yourself to another, remind yourself it will happen in good time sticking with your new tool plan. I had my 1st post op visit Tues. Was cleared for regular foods and tbh, never so happy to have a spinach salad again! Im on 20# weight restrictions until 6 wks out. I have been blessed not to have any issues after surgery. I do take my multivitamin after a tblspoon of yougurt each time. I get my protein and water in with premier protein water, I switched my coffee creamer to adding 2oz of premier vanilla shake to my coffee, and I drink water the rest of the time. I avg. 50 oz of water and 60grms of protein daily. Please note I've always been a huge water drinker so maybe this is why I can get so much liquid down. One food I cant get down is breads, it sticks in my throat every time, even salad croutons! I usually have a few teaspoons of hummus or refried beans for lunch. I thought I would miss food more but I dont. My surgeon advised to eat 1-2 small plant based meals a day. And no more than 3-4oz total of all food per meal. Congrats to everyone for starting this journey! Regardless of weight loss rate and sm struggles, you got this and will be so much happier by Spring time!

    Food ideas?

My fav to this day and I started it in purées my 2nd week post op (I was sleeved on 12/12/19) is I put refried beans in a bowl, add ground beef (I puréed this that 2nd week) and then add salsa and cheese. Microwave it and bam! Super easy. I’m 5 weeks out now and I still make it all the time. I’ve even added olives, used turkey meat instead of ground beef.. I like it cuz it’s quick and a lot of protein!!
  25. I had surgery on 12/12/19 and I dropped 20lbs right away, then another 3 over the 3rd week. But I've been stalled for over a week and a half. I decided to stay consistent with my protein, meet my water goals and stay on top of my vitamins. After a couple days of this, I dropped 3lbs over night!! I know it's a small victory but after having surgery being stalled so long is worrisome. Anyone else go through this?
