I have been having the same issue. Most days, I eat several very small meals. At first, I was only able to eat 4 or 5 bites, but as I progress (I am almost 6 wks out) the amount I can eat increases. Don't panic and just try to make up the difference with Protein shakes. If they get hard to drink, try mixing them with, pudding, yogurt, coffee (decaf if your plan does not condone it), etc. or get unflavored protein and mix into warm broth or other Soups. I think this is pretty normal and part of the process. Good luck!

Any suggestions for the "Creamy" stage? I move onto that tomorrow. Looking forward to some scrambled eggs with shredded cheese, yogurt, cottage cheese but would welcome any suggestions. Tired if this full liquid stage already. I'm post-op day 16. Thank you in advance!

Keeping it secret - what excuse did you use at work?
MarySue33 replied to TerriDoodle's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I did just that...told them that I was having surgery...and left it at that. I did not want to lie to them, as I think that set you up for a whole lot of other problems -- especially if it ever slips out later that you had something that you did not really have. I just said to them, "I am having surgery...it is nothing major...just necessary." If someone would pry, I would just say, "It's kind of personal...if you know what I mean" (and give them kind of an 'I'm not comfortable talking about this' look). That nipped most of the questions (except from the rudest of the rude) in the bud. Most folks would get all embarrassed that they asked and trip all over themselves apologizing for prying. I know that I left many of them with the impression that it was 'female stuff', and that was fine. I left it to their imaginiations. The big thing, though, was that I made sure they knew it was nothing life threatening. Once I got back to work (I took two weeks off), I came back eating healthy. I was still on the mushies at that point, but cottage cheese and yogurt are things that a lot of folks who have not had the surgery eat, anyway, so it was not a big deal. When someone (only a few of the very nosy fall into this category anymore) would ask...I told them that (again...not a lie) I had not felt like eating much right after my surgery and decided it was a good time to give up junk food. After the first month, for me, anyway, the weight loss has been slow enough that nobody questions it anymore. They all see that I am eating healthy now and just attribute it to that. I have given up soda and caffeine and they have seen that, too. Keep in mind, if you are like most of us, our coworkers have watched us go up and down the scale a number of times. Heck, I had five sizes in my closet before surgery and I have fit into every one of those sizes at least once -- and the middle to upper range a couple of times -- over the past 15 years, so me going on a diet is nothing new. (Staying on it...now that's another matter altogether...but that's why I got the band.) If you DO think that you want to tell folks at work, do a search on a lot of the posts here. There are a lot of people who had no problem with it, but there are a lot of other folks who wish they had not said anything -- that now they have offices full of food and exercise police and it is driving them nuts. -

Anyone still around? I'm struggling. How are you doing?
Carol-TX posted a topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I went to the doctor yesterday to see if I could get a little more filling. It turns out that my esophagus has stretched and that is why I can eat so much and not feel satisfied. She drained my band and put me on a liquid diet for a month. Bummer. She said that the esophagus should go back to normal. I guess I needed a wake-up call, because I was binging so badly. Even though it was small amounts, I was eating all day and night. I am so hooked on sweets. I feel like I'm constantly trying to adjust my body with food. I want something sweet, then I want something like crackers, bread, or nuts - then something sweet, then on and on and on - the circle never ends. Sometimes I scream at myself in my head, "Stop eating !!!!!" I always say that I can't. But I think I have been using negative self-talk in that area. I'm good at positive self-talk in other areas of my life, and it truly works. I'm going to practice positive self-talk with regulating my food intake now. I realize that everything you say or do is a choice, and saying "I can't" is choosing "not to." I have been so disappointed that my band did not seem to make any difference for me. If I had the will-power to do everything that is expected of me with my band, I would not have been fat in the first place. I guess the band has helped some, because I've lost 40 pounds over 4 years. That's 40 less than I have to lose now. That's positive. I did good today; I have had only my 30g Protein drinks. I can have Jello or yogurt tonight. Thanksgiving will be hard, so I'm going to enjoy it at home alone this time and enjoy some movies. I'd like to know how some of y'all are doing now. Success stories ......... problems .......???? -
Cranky sleeve: need some advice please
mchap25 posted a topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I was 3 weeks out yesterday and have done fairly well, but my sleeve is so picky I am running out of options for food and drink. I can't do plain water or any artificially sweetened drinks like Crystal Light. I've only been able to do Decaf iced tea and Syntrax Chocolate Truffle flavor for protein. For food I am lactose intolerant since surgery and can't even handle Lactaid milk. So no yogurt or cottage cheese or cream soups. The things I can handle are lunch meat, eggs, and baked potato. I can only take 2 oz at a time. I have tried tuna, chicken, and tilapia and get sick from those. It seems I'll have a really great day followed by a day sicker than a dog. Thanks for reading my long post! Any ideas? -
2 days postop... How did you feel?
JamieLogical replied to BrightEyes42's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You will feel normal again! I remember that was the question I asked myself most in those early days. I'm pretty sure I even posted it on here a few times. "Will I ever feel normal again!??!?!" But I eventually did and you will too! It's hard to believe right now, I know, but you really really will. As for the pureed stage, I never once ate any actual pureed food. I had my Protein shakes, yogurt, and recipes from this page: http://theworldaccordingtoeggface.blogspot.com/2007/08/pureed-foods.html The Baked Ricotta saved me! -
How to lose weight pre-op?
AJ Tylo replied to BigSue's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Not hard but wont be fun I am doing this for my x wife as we speak she is getting it done end of May Since i have a nurta girl who handles me here is her plan Gallons of Broth, she has a band on he wrist and has to move 5 miles a day, Lucky she hits that easy at work, She eats small portion and low calorie food 6 times a day. For example today she will be eating chunked chicken, veggies two shakes and grapes. But she can sip and drink broth all day. She hates it and is miserable but she realizes the rewards seeing me. Going to prep her food today for the next three days here is it for dinner and lunch - Breakfast for her is a yogurt and shake. I will make two of each and she can mix and match them up - Goal is to keep her under 900 calories a day. Not easy because she cheats at work. and If tired blows the day with the Starbucks drive thru suicide coffee creations. 1. 7 oz salmon cauliflower rice and grapes 2. 7 oz skirt steak Avocado and asparagus and fruit cup 3. Chicken sausage one link, Brown fried rice with egg and tons of veggies I am professional trained in the kitchen - Use a App to track your calories and be careful with the sauces, seasonings and oils. You can have a healthy piece of fish and ruin the healthy side with a glaze or sauce! -
Unable to get enough fluids or protein 5 weeks post-op
summerseeker replied to Jlw1403's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
It took me for ever to reach my goals. Like 3 + months. They just told me to do my best. Protein yogurts were my saviour, 2 of these and a pint of milk a day and I had all my protein. Drinking seemed to take all day and all my waking night too. I had my surgery in coldest winter, so hot drinks were easiest for me to manage, although they did get cold before I drank it all. After meals if I found myself thirsty, I would suck a popsicle , its a fluid. Once you can drink your ounces you will feel amazing. Its really worth while persevering, it does get easier soon I had to keep going back a stage because eating 'normal' foods was so difficult for me -
Getting sleeved October 25th!
Riva replied to anm1979's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was sleeved on 7.19.16 i lost 20 lbs prior to surgery. I started eating smaller portions 5x a day. Each meal was 15 carbs our less carb master yogurt, premier shakes 1-2x a day. And a shake is a meal. It really helps with the liquid diet prior to surgery. My starting weight was 283 at surgery day it was 263 and current weight is 235 Good luck! I definitely did NOT cut out carbs to lose all my excess weight. (I'm now 6 pounds below goal.) Carbs aren't just sweets and breads. Carbs are in milk, yogurt, fruit, green and other colored veggies, whole grain foods, etc. Carbs are necessary for high energy and good nutrition. I don't understand why people think life after WLS means no carbs or even low carb. I think there's a terrible lack of education about which foods contain carbs and which carb-laden foods are much healthier for us than others. Now on maintenance, I average around 100 grams of Protein a day and 150-200 grams of carbs a day. But I don't eat slider foods (Cookies, chips, crackers, Desserts, sweets, pastas) often at all. Yes, I have them occasionally, but they're not an everyday item on my menu.

Dang guys. I'm so sorry for your struggles. Do NOT give up. You HAVE to keep trying. Just try slowly. Foamies DO suck though. Fo' shizzle! I use the Celebrate Chewables. I bought a huge jug of them so I'd get the cheapest I could. I chew one after breakfast and one after lunch. If I take them before a meal I get nauseated. @Orchids&Dragons Next time if your cake is dry, make a "parfait" with Greek yogurt sweetened with vanilla stevia. crumble it up into it and have mixed a little bit with the yogurt so it will act as lube. It might last you 3 servings, but it will still be easier on your tummy.

I almost feel like I should just give up on any type of non-liquid food. UGH! I was really good this morning, just yogurt then went to the gym. So, when I got home I thought I could have a treat and make a protein cake in a mug. Recipe didn't turn out well; it was very dense, but I had about 3 bites because I'm too cheap to throw it away. My stomach is totally rejecting it and I've had foamies for over an hour! This is still happening to me 4 or 5 times a week. I am SO OVER IT! At least I'm not at work today, small favors

Nom Nom Nom - Yasso Greek Froz Yog Bars - 6g prot & 80 cal
NMJG posted a topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
Just tried these - awesome snack with protein that makes you feel guilty it tastes so good, and it's easy on the sleeve regardless of where you are in your journey. 6 g Protein 80 calories 14 carbs 1 fat Yasso brand Greek Frozen Yogurt bars - I tried coconut. Yum! Tastes like coconut ice cream. They come in other flavors, too. Found them in my grocery store freezer section (Smith's). I wouldn't eat these every day to fill my protein needs, but for the occasional snack that tastes divine and still is weightloss friendly, this will do the trick. No, I'm not affiliated with Yasso -

I'm still pre-op, but during my assessment with NUT, when I talked about eating sweets in the evening, she suggested trying Yasso Greek frozen yogurt bars. I've tried the chocolate and they are soooooooo yummy. I have the sea salted caramel in my freezer now. I got them at wal-mart. -
Are you following a Paleo Diet?
Alex Brecher replied to My Bariatric Life's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Nope, I don’t follow a paleo diet. I can’t ignore all the studies linking whole grain consumption to reduced risk for heart disease and diabetes. And I really don’t see a problem with Beans and dairy (as long as you’re not lactose intolerant, of course). Yes, it’s great to cut out many processed foods with added sugars, solid fats, and too much salt, as the paleo diet does. I think there’s a happy medium between the SAD and a paleo diet. For me personally, it’s about the calories. If I eat the same number of calories, I can eat them from (say) oatmeal and yogurt (non-paleo) or from (say) chicken and broccoli (paleo) and my weight will turn out the same. So, I try to eat unprocessed, high-fiber, and high-protein, but I don’t eliminate food groups like whole grains and dairy and legumes. -
Refried beans with a little melted cheee & salsa, cottage cheese with salad dressing or salsa or other savory mix-ins (PB2 works well too), Greek yogurt with PB2 stirred in, poached eggs, Shelly's Ricotta Bake. I would also take some meat, puree it with a flavorful sauce, and then heat it up in the microwave with a little shredded cheese on top. I know what you are thinking . . . pureed meat, gross! But when you add something tasty in the food processor and heat it up, it tastes just like a casserole, only without the carby stuff you don't need like rice or noodles. Some of my favorite combos were (just to give you some ideas): ranch-flavor tuna with ranch dressing, sriracha sauce, and pepper jack cheese Shrimp with buffalo wing sauce and bleu cheese Chicken breast with marinara sauce & mozzarella cheese Turkey breast with peanut satay sauce & jack cheese Ground bison with low carb bbq sauce and cheddar cheese Chicken with tikka masala sauce and Swiss cheese Good luck!

Anyone stay on shakes for meal times longer than first couple weeks?
Orchids&Dragons replied to GansettRam74's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Honestly, since I'm hardly eating any "real food" I've got to be chock full of chemicals. Between protein shakes, protein water, sugar-free non-fat yogurt, Crystal Light, turkey bacon, light mayo, high protein snacks, etc. I'm not sure that I'm actually eating "healthier" at all -

JulieNYC's Extended Tummy Tuck and Breast Lift
JulieNYC replied to JulieNYC's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
OK Karey, it's a deal. You'll send me a treat from Utah when I get to 163 -- that's the number where I'm no longer clinically obese, so it's my next milestone. What I eat. Well, recently, it's been not so great. I'm at a new job and we order in a lot both for lunch and dinner. I've had a few more potato chip/sandwich type lunches than I'd like recently. BUT, all that is behind me. Potato chips and sandwiches will be served at law firms long after I'm at goal, so I can have them then. For now, I'm going to really buckle down and lose the last 38 lbs to obtain a normal BMI on or before September 9th, which is the day I run my half-marathon. Now, I'm aware that's an aggressive goal -- 12 lbs a month is hard to do when it's the last pounds, but I'm going to do it. The eating plan that I followed for most of my WL journey served me well, so I've gone back to it. Basically, I track calories closely and I track protein loosely. My nutritionist says to eat 800-1000 cals and 45-50 g of protein for my meager height (5'2). Here's what that looks like on a given day: Breakfast: 1/2 C cottage cheese mixed with 1/2 cup fiber one cereal and a handfull of berries. This is super yummy and keeps me full for hours (like from 10 to 3). Snack if I feel like it: cup-a-soup with 1/2 c cottage cheese and another 1/2 c berries. Lunch: morningstar soy chicken patty with 3/4 cup veggies (today it was frozen green giant cauli in low cal cheese sauce) Dinner: 1/2 c tuna salad on whole grain crackers and a frozen yogurt. Total cals -- 850. Total protein - 67. Total fiber -- 32. That would be a perfect day. If I stumbled (i.e. found free Skittles that jumped into my mouth) I might forego dinner, or at least the frozen yogurt. My cals would stll be about 900 but my protein would drop to about 50. -
Who's getting sleeved February 18?!?!
banditchic replied to banditchic's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I had my surgery Monday, and came home today. The first day was decent, but the second day was more painful, and I came down with a fever. I had the leak test Tuesday morning, and it showed no leaks, but my fever concerned them. I cried myself to sleep Tuesday night. With the tummy pain, and the fever, I felt horrible. I woke up this morning and felt better. My temp was 99 which was down from 101. I've been home since 11am, and am feeling ok. I'm on clear liquids until Saturday. My stomach cramps when I drink, so that's been a challenge. I'm on liquid Loratab, which helps with the pain. I get to go back on protein drinks, yogurts and puddings Saturday. I'm hanging in there -
I agree about different temps. I liked some hot that weren't so good cold. Also there's a good chicken soup one you can order. Finally, I mix mine with non-fat Greek yogurt (Fage) and add a squirt of that coffee flavoring - either coffee flavor itself or things like SF caramel, etc. Good luck - keep at it until you find something works.

FIRST WEEK POST OP- CRAVING LOW FAT CHOCOLATE ICE CREAM
swimmom replied to dat_sweetmami's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
You should definitely consult your doctor on his/her plan for your first couple of weeks. I know that some doctors do only clear liquids the first two weeks, and then "full liquids" the second two. My doctor, on the other hand, does anything liquid during the first two weeks, as long as it is the consistency to be sipped through a straw (BUT DON'T USE A STRAW - TO MUCH AIR/GAS). Of course, protein needs to be FIRST PRIORITY. I have been doing lentil soup put through the blender, and fat-free greek yogurt. I have also been doing drinks that I ordered through American Bariatric - both their clear fruit drinks (a little like Crystal Light), and their cappucino mix (delicious - I mix it with warm coffee - 15 grams of protein and 90 calories!). -
Hi. I'm almost 3 weeks post op and I'm struggling with food. I am on the soft food phase, I follow the rules. I eat very slow and I take very small bites (the size of a pencil eraser) yet everything I eat gets stuck even yogurt and apple sauce. As you can imagine it's very uncomfortable. What can I do?
