    Not losing much

Holy moly! Haw can a doctor do this to a patient especially with such a significant surgery! You should report this to your insurance if it was covered. Anyway...clear liquids and protein shakes only for the first few weeks ( I had two weeks), then you can introduce low fat, low sugar yogurt, sugar free pudding in third week. Intake goal :48 oz of fluids / 60 grams of protein Next three weeks for me are liquids, soft proteins (tofu, soft chicken, eggs, yogurt, retried beans etc. ). I am not allowed fruits or vegetables until 6 weeks out. Goal 64 oz fluids 60-80 grams of protein. Check out theworldaccordingtoeggface.com, she's got a lot of suggestions for this and each stage. After week 6, can start to introduce all textures and fruits &veggies. Good luck!

    Not losing much

Did your doctor not give you much guidance in what you should be eating? If you aren't hitting protein & water goals your focus should change to that immediately. We were told to get 60g of protein in minimum a day. The target should be between 60-80g of protein, keep carbs low, and don't stress about calories at this point. In addition try your best to get 64oz of water in. At 3 weeks out most people are in the pureed stage. Things like cottage cheese (blend a small portion of fruit up to add to the flavor) and Greek yogurts are good to have in your diet. The Oikos triple zero yogurts are 15g of protein in a serving. Cottage cheese is typically at least 10g in 5oz. Compare that to the 1-2g of protein you're getting from an entire banana. If you're struggling with water try mixing things up. Do Powerade Zero, Propel waters, Crystal Light, etc. I would mix a small amount of diet cranberry juice (the 5 calorie kind) in with my Crystal Light drinks to give them a bit more flavor. I keep a 32oz Powerade bottle as my measuring cup so to speak. I fill that up with my Crystal Light and as long as I get two of those down a day I know I'm hitting my water goals (your protein drinks do count towards water intake as well). I honestly think if you change those things up you'll see things kick into gear more.

    January Sleevers Check-In

I understand where your coming from A Creative New Day. I'm a month out from surgery and I can't get my protein in as well. I seen my doctor this past Tuesday and he says I'm losing 2 pounds a week now. That's without get in all the water & protein in. Now I just don't feel like eating. I'm forcing myself. Hang in there & try to get as much fluids in as possible. There are other ways to get in your protein besides shakes. Try yogurt, refried beans, cream of chicken soup. They helped me. Good luck
  4. Honestly, consider yourself lucky. I'm 5 weeks out and basically the first 3 weeks post op I ate nothing. In the beginning I was able to do yogurt but things started going down hill and I was dehydrated and developed a kidney infection. I was in the ER 3 times in the first 3 weeks. Every single time it was for nausea. SEVERE nausea. Theyd get it under control and send me home then it'd come back worse than before. FINALLY on day 23, I believe it was, they sent a nurse to my house and gave me steroids and vitamins via IV and it literally saved me. I haven't had to take any nausea meds since then! At one ER visit I needed a potassium infusion because I was throwing up so much it threw off my electrolytes. Let me forewarn you... potassium infusions BURN. they burn a lot. Everyone's recovery is different. Be glad your only battle is head hunger. I went through so much misery those first few weeks that the thought of eating something that could make me sick again is so repulsive that my family could eat whatever they want in front of me and it doesn't bother me in the slightest. It'll get better it just takes time Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Solids soon... help!

I ate chicken with salsa or hummus to make it more moist. Meatballs or meatloaf with low sugar tomato sauce. Chili. Also cheese slices, pork loin cooked in a crockpot, turkey with low fat gravy. Yogurt with small fruit pieces. Soft scrambled eggs. Start with very small pieces and chew very, very well.
  6. Okay! Here it goes. I had surgery on the 17th of Feb. Today marks 2 weeks post op. Surgery went well. Spent 3 days and 2 nights in the hospital. The 1st day I accidentally ate an orange and almost died. The 1st week I did well. Protein shake and Oikos yogurts and pain pills. The doctor told me to increase my Water intake but I just can't drink two bottles a day. This week I felt hungry. I was starving. The Protein shakes weren't cutting it. I decided to start soft food earlier. He's the confession. I would chew the food and spit it out. I had some meatballs, and fish, and food I know I shouldn't be eating. I told myself that because I'm not actually swallowing it then I should be fine. Today I feel horrible. I know that habit is a bad one and I should stop before it gets out of hand. I decided to start this week over and go back to full liquids. Today I restocked on protein, yogurt, Jello and water. I'm going to do it the right way this time.

    4 month stall?

I usually have my coffee and tea in the morning, (green tea) (coffee with equal and little half & half) with either eggs and cheese or a greek yogurt ....or I will have a Protein shake.....I have an apple for a snack.....and lunch is either a salad or lunch meat....I have had half a sandwich before but I don't eat the crust of the bread because it makes me so full.....For dinner I have veggies and chicken.....I also occasionally have a sugar free fudge stick....another shake.....and more green tea before bed.....I haven't really upped my exercise....I do walking...gym here and there....and taking belly dancing class every Friday at for one hour......I snack on string cheese, cashews, popcorn, banana, and I am taking my Vitamins......... What is your current weight? I think you made a mistake
  8. I'm in the puréed stage and I stick mostly to cottage cheese, Greek yogurt and refried beans. As far as the cottage cheese goes I eat it alone with a little bit of pepper. I keep it short and sweet. I focus on my protein and fluid intake. One thing else I really enjoy is sugar free popsicles. Good luck! [emoji846]

    Need advice: Protein drinks

Sounds like you've got a sweetener intolerance going on. Both the vomiting and the diarrhea are what happens when someone consumes something the body doesn't digest well. I had similar issues before I figured out I am highly intolerant to sucralose, (which is what the premier shakes are sweetened with), not sure about your vitamins, but it's the preferred sweetener for most sugarless drinks, yogurts, etc. Try switching to Stevia sweetened foods, which is easier to digest. You will know within a day or so... Your nut will be very helpful if you find this is your problem. For protein shakes, try a protein powder and use the Torani sugar free coffee syrup for flavoring. My favorite shake is vanilla flavored Jay Robb protein powder and salted caramel syrup with soy milk. Yum, yum!

    Food tastes horrible

I stuck to mainly my protein shakes. I had the same problem where either things tasted blah or was very short lived. Chobani has a decent selection of flavors in their Greek yogurts. I also did a lot of cottage cheese with some pureed fruit to give it a bit extra. Also had some leftover Healthwise protein drinks and soups from my 2 week pre-op phase that helped me get through it. Might want to try a few different soups assuming you can have those pureed/strained. When I was going through this phase all my used to be favorite Crystal Light flavors tasted horrible. By about the third week they started tasting better, and now 5 weeks out they all taste the same as before. It defiinitely is a weird phase to go through.

    OCTOBER 2014

Hey!! I never saw this post back in December!? I'm so happy for you that you're doing well!!! But be careful with that drinking girl! :-) You don't want to drink your calories, especially alcohol since it's chocked full of sugar. I find myself wishing I still got "sick" easily, LOL!! Although, I just ate half of a cookie from Panera and I'm totally nauseous, so I'll take that--now I'll be turned off from eating those Cookies, at least for a while! :-) I had a breast lift 4 weeks ago and am VERY happy!! Congrats on your surgeries too!! I didn't have implants done (much to my fiancé's dismay, LOL) so I'm actually a little smaller than I was before. I'm a 34, large C, small D right not. I used to be a 42DDD!! I wouldn't "mind" a tummy tuck someday, but I'm not set on it. Only one person sees my belly besides me, and he's totally ok with it. He was ok with my boobs too, but wow--I didn't realize how much the way they were affecting my self-esteem/ confidence. I'm not fully healed yet, so I'm anxious to really see the final result. I've creeped up a bit more since the last time I posted. I'm at about 155-157 now. But honestly, if I could tone some areas up, I'd be pretty happy. I'd still love to lost about 6-8 pounds before my wedding (May 20th) but I can't exercise, other than walking (and it's too cold out for me now!) for another month I think.... I've really been watching my food choices and being really careful, since I can't exercise right now. But I can really tell my hips/stomach/thigh area is getting "loose" :-( Dang it! My blood work all came back normal. My B12 was just a tad low, but she said I'm absorbing it, so that was good. I wasn't taking any B12, so I take 1, every other day now. Be careful with your iron levels!! If you're too low for too long, it can do permanent damage!! :-( My typical food daily is: Breakfast, wheat toast with Peanut Butter, or 2 eggs with cheese/ veggies. Lunch: Either a sandwich on whole grain with turkey, cheese, veggies...or a salad with turkey & ham, or grilled chicken and tons of veggies. Dinner: Some kind of meat, veggie and small amount of carb(Potato, rice, etc.) Snacks are typically string cheese, hard boiled egg, pop corn, dried fruit/ nuts, yogurt, fruit, raw veggies....those are my go to's. :-) Not to say I don't have an occasional glass of wine, a few cookies here and there....I can handle about 4 pieces of candy (like starbursts) then I'm sick, LOL. Absolutely no ice cream. I get VERY sick, quickly. NOT WORTH IT! :-) I have developed being hypoglycemic. Ended up in the ER twice before we figured out what it was. I just really need to make sure I eat enough, often enough and don't get low on my Water. I'm so sorry you and your hubby are not doing so well. :-( That makes me so sad. Would he/you be open to counseling? I am so thankful for the man I'm marrying!! He is my rock, for sure. I'm in nursing school and he has pretty much taken on all my "duties" at home, LOL. He "makes" me go sit down and study while he makes dinner, does laundry, etc. Plus, we work together, so while I'm at school, he does my stuff at work too. He's truly a gem. And I wish everyone was as blessed as I am. ♥ On that note---I'd better get off my behind and do something!!
  12. Hi, I'm 7 days post op and I am having a really hard time tolerating the premier Protein premade drinks. They are so gross & Too sweet for me. I also think they are irritating my stomach. I wake up every morning with lose bowels. I know, I'm sorry TMI, but I didn't know who to ask? . Can anyone recommend another way to get my protein in besides the doctor approved protein yogurts? Maybe some that aren't so sweet, or clear ones, or lactose free ones that are clear? Thank you in advance

What Is Your Favorite Healthy Food Discovery?

I WAS a big chocolate lover, now just one bite and it usually turns my stomach....I never thought about or ate fruit, now EVERY day I eat apples, oranges, strawberries, watermelon, or blueberries, so much so that I have to be cautious of the calories and carbs. My go-to meal now is Greek vanilla yogurt and added fresh blueberries. Yum!

    Feeling slightly discouraged!

Are you drinking any Protein shakes? What stage are you at? I'm at the end of 3 weeks, 4 weeks begins tomorrow which means I can introduce regular foods (slowly), although I started 2 days ago with chicken breast. I usually hit 80-90g of protein a day. I always have one Protein shake, which I make with soy or almond milk, plus Protein Powder (20g). That can get me between 25-35g of protein, depending on what I put in the shake (sometimes I also blend greek yogurt or a small block of tofu into the shake which also ups the protein even more.) I also try to have one or two eggs a day, and I usually have some string cheese as a snack as well (sometimes 2). When I started purees I ate canned tuna (with a little cheese) or the ricotta bake for one of meals. I also added unflavoured powder to blended Soups. This is all really protein heavy, but it gets me to my goals. Now that I'm starting with regular foods, I will be adding more veggies, when I can, and will try to cut back on the cheese, so that my diet is more balanced.

    After I Eat (sadface)

I'm worried about this as well, but I seem to be handling cheese and yogurt okay. I don't use milk (and haven't for years) - I make my shakes with almond or soy milk, although I've noticed that I have issues with soy now that I'm post-op. Unfortunately it's hard to find almond milk here in Japan - my local supermarket does have it, but in the tiny 200ml juice box size.
  16. Thank you for your responses. Yes Kim the nutritionists said around 80. I find it so hard to get that much in a day! I have started adding Protein powder to my yogurt and even my coffee to try to get it up there. Very rarely can I get more than 60. Any suggestions?

    Protein shakes and vitamins

I am currently using Isopure unflavored Protein powder to mix in things such as decaf iced tea and Crystal Light. You can also mix the unflavored protein powder in things such as broth, cream soups, and then when you get to the pureed food stage.... you can mix it in your foods such as yogurt or refried Beans, etc. For flavored Protein shakes, I've tried Bariatric Advantage (I thought it was too sweet), and Premier ready-to-drink protein shakes. My favorite one is the Premier Protein shake in chocolate. You can purchase a 4-pack of shakes at Walmart for around $7. But if you have a Sam's Club, you can usually find a 12-pack for $16-$18 on sale, which is really good. For Vitamins, I was told only to take bariatric vitamins. I have tried both Bariatric Advantage and Celebrate. I am currently taking the Celebrate brand, which I like best flavor and cost-wise. I take Calcium with Vitamin D and a multi-vitamin with Iron.
  19. Just this morning, I was staring into my refrigerator wondering what I should pack to bring to work today. Nothing appealed to me. So I packed the usual... Cottage cheese, Yogurt and 2 slice of ham rolled up. I think I will be happier when I can at least add vegetables to my diet, but can't do that until 3 months out. The hunger pains always kick in when I smell pizza or fresh bread and it takes all of my will to not eat it. Then I get depressed as I return to eating my usual chicken drum stick or whatever unappetizing food I eat. But I know I have to keep plugging along because I was even more depressed being over weight and not feeling healthy. I was told the first 6 months will be hard. I still don't regret having my surgery as I already feel healthier and can breathe better and this was the exact reason why I chose this path. So Everyone who is having the same feelings we just have to hang in there, It will get better eventually.

    Getting real...

Thank you so much for all of this info. I like the idea of the frozen yogurt pops. I will bring slippers. I think I'll go to the hospital in them. [emoji23] There's a goodwill not far from here. I will buy my transition clothes there for sure. I figured leggings would be good because of their stretch. When I hold mine up they look like they'd fit a size 2 but somehow they fit a 22! I'm getting the sleeve and I will have to think on a name. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  21. I get 2 premier shakes, Jello, Popsicles, cottage cheese or yogurt (until the 2 days before) and a light, broth based Soup once a day.

    Food Aversions

Lately I don't want protein drinks, eggs, yogurt...the only thing my stomach does well with is toast/ crackers but I know I'm not supposed to have too much of that. My fluids can be better. I try my best to drink water constantly but I often get dry mouth so I know it's not enough. As for BMs I'm either constipated or have the runs.
  24. Carrie1122

    Getting real...

Are you getting the sleeve or gastric? You might have said already. My pouches name is sassy gassy! [emoji12] we all name it at least the sleevers do. You are going to go through a lot of stages afterwards. Especially with constipation, emotional withdrawal from food, but when you have that moment in a clothing store because you need a few new cloths you will be having a moment that no one can take from you. I was very emotional, disconnected. I will never forget it. Now you have the frustration of I can't spend a lot because it won't fit four months down the road. Get to know your sale times at the goodwill, thrift shop. The night of your hospital stay. Go in PJ's bring an extra pair. Slippers because it sucks walking in socks. Bathroom stuff (toothpaste) bathrobe. I also brought my two favorite pillows and blanket. And walk constantly. I walked every hour and did laps. It helps with the gas and pain. I didn't bring a bra or anything I didn't give a shit. I lived in pj's for a week went to store and everything. I also was aloud to have full liquids 3 days after surgery. I made a shit load of Chobani frozen yogurt. All I did was add skim milk to it water it down and little tiny red cups and pop sticks and froze them. I would walk in the morning with a frozen yogurt. I made my own beef, pork, chicken broth (bone broth).. I froze it in little containers so I can just take it out add it to mash potato's or drink it. Post and pre-op. I made frozen jello and refrigerator jello. Also a pillow small one you can carry around because when you cough it hurts your tummy pressure with a pillow helps. Pillows to prop you up in bed. I have an adjustable I lucked out.
  25. While I am not vegan, i do have crazy food allergies that has made it difficult post op. (I was sleeved on 2/8/17) I am highly allergic to cow's milk, whey, yeast, and a few others. These allergies have made it difficult because I can't eat cottage cheese, cheeses, puddings, traditional yogurts, hummus, etc. So while I am not officially vegan, I am eating like one due to allergies and where i am at in my healing. And frankly, I am struggling a bit to get in my Protein. I drink Vega shakes twice a day. (40 grams there) I eat eggs, and have eaten Almond Milk yogurts (tough because there is only max 5g protein in a 6 oz cup). I've even mixed some Protein powder into my tomato basil Soup. (which was a bit weird because of the vanilla taste) While I enjoy my Vega, Orgain, and PlantFusion Vegan shakes, I don't necessarily want to drink one every day for the rest of my life. However, it may be a reality because I can't eat/drink all the protein waters, bars, wafers, Snacks, etc that are out there for quick protein. My one word of advice, is plan the foods you can/will eat at each stage of recovery (Clear liquids, full liquids, puree, etc). I didn't. I thought it would be pretty easy to incorporate what I'm already doing. But it's really not.
