    Hit a stall

Stalls are a normal, natural, and necessary part of the process of losing weight. None of us lose at a constant or steady rate. We all stall and most of us experience our first stall about three weeks post-op. Just follow your program. Focus on getting in all of your Protein and fluids. And, stay off the scale. Embrace the Stall http://BariatricPal.com/index.php?/topic/351046-Embrace-the-Stall

    Stalls

My stall ended. I did lose 4 more pounds this week. I strictly diet. Low carb. Low calorie, veggies and some fruit, protein. I put everything in my app. I’m way under the guidelines my surgeon asked, but doing my best to up my calories and carbs. Struggling still with digesting most foods.
  5. Hi I have had the VST surgery Feb17th and today is my 10 week postop. I started off at 329lbs and as of today I am at 263lbs. But here is what I have noticed. Post op before I went back to work I was losing a pound a day average and sometimes 2. The first day I went back to work everything stopped moving for about 10 days. Why? I thought about this and here is what I came up with. Stress, Water retention, change of environment, and sleep patterns are different. At work is a more controlled environment with high levels of stress. So I started watching for patterns. My diets the same everyday 60-90g Protein, 25-60g carbs, >25g fats. This is clockwork so this isnt the problem. After 10 days the weight started coming off again but now its at a pound every 2-3 days and it stayed this way until I went home. Upon arrival at my home I weighed myself and marked it. Then for 7 straight days there was no loss at all. Then all of a sudden 3 lbs fell off after a nights sleep. I continued to lose a pound every day or two. Before I left to come back to work I noted my weight again. This time it was 269.2. Ok once I get back on my vessel the next morning I lost 2pounds. From that point on there was nothing for another 10 days. After the 10 days I suspect my body adjusts to the changing environment and I lose the water retention, stress calms down and my sleep pattern adjusts to the 12 hour pattern. 12 hours on a boat is actually 8 hours on and off. But to conclude since the 10th day I have lost .5/day bringing me to 263 as of today. So inretrospect I can assume that stress interrupts fat loss.

    Fat Loss And Stress

Stress causes me to lose weight. I lost about 35 lbs when my husband died. (a long time before I was sleeved) I wasn't eating differently. If anything, I was eating more because I turn to sweets in times like that. Recently, around Christmas, I had a big family emergency and I was stressed out for about a month, and I lost 10 lbs. During that time, I went to Disneyland, and ate junk food for a week. Unfortunately, once the problem was resolved, I gained it back. I was not overeating or anything. I just went back to my normal weight.
  7. Three shakes aren't enough to promote weight loss. Don't get discouraged! I was complaining about the same thing for weeks then my doc pointed out that because I was consuming so little calories that my body had lowered my metabolism so as not to expend too much energy. Once I started mushy food and upped my calories a little I started losing again, plus I've also started gym so I'm losing more consistently. So don't lose hope it's normal and you will start losing just be patient and follow your dr instructions

    Weight loss 3 weeks

It's common after surgery for the body to go through a healing period which tends to stall out the weight loss. If you are eating or drinking between 1000 to 1200 calories the loss will come.... Just keep doing what you are doing and don't forget to drink lost of water... That alone will help tremendously.
  10. I've struggled with my weight since puberty. When I was younger, I was always in state of weight change - I was either losing or gaining. I never learned how to maintain my weight. I'm in my early 40's now and I have been losing and gaining the same 25 pounds for over 10 years. Like many of you, I have tried so many diets - Weight Watchers, Atkins, Jenny Craig (on which I gained weight), Slimfast. I've tried walking, Pilates videos, gym memberships. The only physical activity that I enjoy is swimming/water aerobics. I can stick to a diet plan, but not to an exercise plan. I have learned so many ways to talk myself out of exercising. In the recent past, I have had the most success with an appetite suppressant which my PCP prescribed. For many good reasons, he will not prescribe it for more than 3 months; nor do I want to be on a dangerous medication. I recently changed jobs and my new health insurance may cover WLS. Since I did well with the diet pills, I think that the Lap Band will be finally be a solution for me. If my physical hunger is under control, I can overcome the mindless eating due to boredom, the emotional eating, and stress induced carb binges. Next week I have a sleep study to confirm a diagnosis of sleep apnea. (My prior health insurance's meager contribution to that test had made it unaffordable.) The morning after the test, my husband and I are attending the WLS surgery seminar at Cleveland Clinic - Florida.

    Stalled!

I didn't lose any weight while I was transitioning into the new food stages. I know it's frustrating because you lost all that weight at the beginning and now you're not, even though you're eating next to nothing still. I went for 2 weeks without losing (or gaining) any weight. So don't worry, it's normal! What actually helped me was eating more calories...I know it sounds counterproductive, but my body goes into starvation mode very easily. If I consistently eat less than 1,000 - 1,200 calories a day, I stall out and don't lose any weight. So make sure you're getting in enough calories and plenty of Protein. You can also increase your exercise routine, or start one if you haven't already. Best of luck to you!

    Stalled!

Definitely make sure you eat your protein. That has happened to me before. I eat almost nothing and then I don't lose weight. But you have to keep in mind the body will go into starvation mode instantly if it's not receiving enough nutrition. So often I eat less than 1200 cal but as long as I get my protein intake I'll still lose the weight. Also every so often I eat something with a little fat in it just to release my leptin. It really just comes to finding a healthy diet with a lot of protein. You're only four weeks in so it may be time for your first fill. When I stalled, I stalled for about three weeks around 240. And then I got my fill and and started losing 2 pounds a week. So don't feel like you're alone in this, we've all been through it. This too shall pass.

    Dilation

I have a question. I was told when I had my UGI that I had a very small dilation. I asked if it was because I ate too much or did anything else I shouldn't of. I was told no. I asked if they were going to remove fluid and was told no, everything was going down fine and that it was very slight. I wasn't even told to go on liquids...just that I was progressing nicely and my weight loss is good and that in fact the fluid was moving through so well that I probably could actual use a slight fill (but they wouldn't do it because of the heartburn and reflux). To this day, I still struggle with heartburn and occasional nightly reflux and lots of burping (most of this is the week before my period...sorry if TMI, but I get alot tighter then). Do you all think I should press this issue?? Is the dilation getting better/worse/the same? Am I hurting myself? I don't want to have any fluid taken out, but I don't want to hurt myself and potentually lose my band! have you ever heard of doing nothing for a slight dilation? Just any input would be appreciated. Thanks!

    from lap band to bypass,,anyone?

@ I assume you're talking to me because it was my revision that just failed. The doc said I can try again in about three months but now I have to hope I heal, hope the insurance approves another go, and come up with all the money for out of pocket and travel expenses
  15. I am just over 5 months post op and for the past 3 weeks my stomach has been soooo sour! I have been taking nexium twice a day and probably going to start Prilosec again. It happens all day long and nothing is helping. Sometimes it makes me seriously feel like I'm going to puke. Has anyone else had this?? I had reflux the first month or 2 but it went away.

    Pre-op Diet Scare

I am scheduled for sleeve surgery on 4-27, and I am on day 9 of my 12 day liquid diet. I have done well, with the exception of not drinking enough water. I am worried though, because the weight is not coming off like I feel it should. I definitely feel a big difference, but my scale hasn't moved in 4 days. I had a kidney stone this week, which made me very sick. I had lots of chicken broth, and a couple of nights I had a few saltines because I felt so sick. I finally went to the hospital last night, and actually passed the stone in the ER. They said I had no infection and was ok to have the surgery. My concern now is my weight. My doc relys on weight loss to show compliancy with the pre-op diet. I don't know if it is because of the kidney stone, all the sodiium I had this week, or the crackers I ate. I just really need to get my scale to move, or I'm afraid my doc won't do my surgery! It has been such a tough week being in such pain AND being sooo hungry. I'm frustrated and scared. I would really appreciate any help or advice. Thank you!
  18. My sleeve is 4/22/2013 tommorrow. So I'm really excited and hungry.Nothing but liquids since last week. I'm ready to get this done and start my new journey. Good luck hope the best for you.

    Silly question....

Its easy! Just click on ther person's profile picture to go to their profile page. In the upper right, there are three buttons. The first button says something like, "Add as Friend" or "Send Friend Request". Just click it and the person will get a request! Easy, cheesy!

    fever?

I spiked a 102 fever in the hospital, they gave me Tylenol and a cool wet washcloth. It came down, and my white cell count was good. As precaution they had me have a follow-up lab to make sure the white cell count was still normal. My white count was good, and the fever stayed around 99.5 for over a week. Hope your recovery is smooth, and pain free.
  21. Hey there lessofmeismore! Yes I'm officially post op. Today is actually day 7 for me so I'm officially one week post op now. I feel so blessed to have this opportunity and I feel I have a great shot at accomplishing something I always wanted. Thank you for your encouraging words.....I'm doing pretty good so far and everyday gets better.

    November 11Th Sleevers

So two weeks out today! How's everyone doing? I've lost from 237 to 209 since preop and tried canned chicken today with avocado instead of mayo. Wonderful! Its first of mushy food for me. I was ready for it! Tired of soup! A lot of new noises coming from my new stomach and tons of hiccups but I'm learning through this process. I'd love to hear your stories!

    My update from June 1

Congratulations on being approved for surgery by your insurance company. I would recommend three things at your stage. 1. Take a good before photograph of yourself, so that you have something to compare to after surgery. Many times we are blind to our obesity. We do not see ourselves. Therefore when the weight begins to drop off rather dramatically, we question if this is really happening. Photographs are a good visualization of our success. Many people carry a before and after photo with them, just to remind themselves of their success. 2. Walk 30 minutes each day, every day until surgery (or equivalent exercise). Walking helps the recovery process go smoothly and minimized the pain levels from surgery. 3. Wean yourself from caffeine and carbonated beverages now. After I gave up my 6 diet coke a day habit, I suffered from a week of severe withdrawal syndrome consisting of severe headaches and body aches. I was miserable. You don't want to combine the effects of caffeine withdrawal with the effects of surgery.
  24. Congrats!! I'm a week behind you, I'm on Sept. 11th. I'm actually going on a cruise 2 weeks before my surgery, this was planned way before I got going on this. I get back from the cruise and have to start my liquid diet. What about you? When do you have to go on yours? Do you have to have a hospital stay?
