  1. Hi everyone, I haven't really kept up with posting on LBT, but I did a few times during my pregnancy so I thought I would come back and let everyone know that I delivered a healthy, NINE pound baby girl on August 28th! She was 2 weeks and 2 days late! We had a planned unassisted birth in our home, and everything went perfectly. I have the 4cc band and it's almost filled to capacity. I did not have an unfill during pregnancy and I gained 41lbs. So far I have lost 28lbs and I look forward to getting active again to help shed the rest and then some. I did not have any band-related problems EXCEPT for intense pain around the port site, especially late on in the pregnancy. I attribute this to the stretching and pulling of the growing belly and probably scar tissue around the site. All I know is it was super painful at times, though not all the time. I wanted to wish everyone good luck on their pregnancy/TTC journeys...this was #4 for us and I'm certain we're DONE, lol!
  2. Good evening everyone, I need to lose 12 lbs before my surgery can be done. Well, I've not been successful at losing weight in the past. I guess if I had been I wouldn't be getting the surgery!! LOL That said, I'm looking for any tips you may have for losing this 12 lbs so I will be able to proceed with the surgery. The other thing I was wondering is, I hear of people going on a liquid diet, before surgery, is that to lose the weight so the surgery can proceed, or is that because you need to clean out so to speak your insides? I guess in a nut shell what I'm curious about is, will I have to lose 12 lbs and then have a 2 week liquid diet as well?
  3. Ive been through the first week of my low carb high protein diet. Im drinking the isopure and i can only eat yogurt, sf pudding and jello and unsweetened applesauce. My surgery date is July 16. its tough this first week has been very challenging for me, but i just keep thinking of how this will benefit me in the end and it keeps me motivated. good luck with everything!
  4. I'm excited I bought everything I need for a few weeks til I see how I feel I'm ready Mz Shay

5 Months Since Banded, Down 40 Lbs :-)

Thank you so much for this, Rebecca. I'm about 4 1/2 months out and haven't lost, or gained really, in 6+ weeks. It's been so frustrating and discouraging. I've tried everything I can think of with no avail, so I'm meeting with my surgeon today for another fill and get his advice. I'm down 52 lbs overall but after steadily losing for the first 3 months, I am so discouraged over the past 1 1/2 months!

5 Months Since Banded, Down 40 Lbs :-)

If i stall out for a few weeks, I go back on liquids to jump start myself again. I see that again in my future very soon....like Monday
  7. Hi all.. I thought I'd share a link to a video in my YouTube channel from 2 days post op. I've been recording my story for a couple of weeks on my channel (you can google "Trisha's Sleeve Story) to find me. I'm only 4 days post op, so I'll be adding videos as my story continues! http://youtu.be/5aHSJ2mj5I0

    Pre-Op Weightloss

I am having the same issues. I am doing Weight Watchers and hate that each week they ask me what I'm doing wrong. Not comfortable telling them I'm eating the same as always so I don't loose too much. But I really would like to lose some since it's summer. I just don't want to get below the BMI threshold for surgery approval. Very frustrating. I'll be keeping an eye out to see what anyone else has experienced.
  9. Hi everyone, I am on a 1200 cal. a day pre-op diet. My surgery date is not set. I had a hard time with the diet for 4 days. On the 5th day I awoke with no hunger, no cravings. This is the easiest dieting I have ever done--which is kind of bizarre to me. I have read here about people being hungry after surgery. Can those who are having problems with being hungry after surgery please say if you went thru this pre-op period of not being hungry? I am preparing to be successful and dont want to be unrealistic in my expectations. One thing I have learned is that, for me, sugar plays a huge role in feelings of hunger. As I said, after day 4 on the diet I had no hunger. However, after a few weeks I baked and iced a cake. I kept sticking my fingers in the icing...and voila, the next morning I woke up hungry!!! It took another two days of strict diet to go back to not being hungry. Thank you for any insights you may have or anything you care to share! This site is such a gift to us all! hiddn

What exactly is allowed on liquid diet?

Hello~ I start my liquid diet on your surgery date. My surgery is on July 8 so I have to do 1 week liquid diet pre surgery. What I was told that I can drink is protein shakes, soups (just the liquid), juice, water, and broth. Good luck on your journey!
  11. Hello All- I am four days before surgery and nervous. Nervous about changing my life and nervous about not having everything ready. So, to clear at least one things off my list - what did everyone wear during recovery week. My mom insists that I will want nightgowns, but I hate those- what did you wear? What is uncomfortable or hard to get into or out of? Thank you!!

    Cup of wine ?

No, I definitely can't drink like I used to drink and it has nothing to do with malabsorption. It's entirely to do with the length of time the alcohol is in my stomach before hitting my bloodstream. Much like sugar can dump post op if you consume too much for the body to process before it hits the intestine, the same can happen to alcohol. Body weight also has something to do with it, as I'm 100 pounds lighter now. The more sugary the drink, the faster the reaction. I seem to metabolize it much faster - I can get completely tipsy from less than 1/2 of one drink or a few sips of beer or wine but within an hour I'm fine again. I used to easily consume two or three mixed drinks and only feel a buzz. One night I drank a mixed drink rather quickly and could hardly walk when I went to stand up! I was never this much of a lightweight before. You'll see a mix of responses, OP. A lot of people report that they're lightweights post op, but some people handle the same quantities of alcohol post op as before. Be mindful of it and be careful at all times because where I would have been perfectly fine to drive somewhere after one glass of wine at dinner before, I could not possibly do it now. ~Cheri
  13. I had my vsg on 3/23. 2 days ago I had severe pain in my pelvis. It feels like a lot of pressure pushing down. This pain is worse than any of my incisions have ever felt. It was so bad I couldn't move. I took some pain meds and it passed. Yesterday afternoon it suddenly came back. One second I was just standing there, the next I was doubled over with pain. It has not gone away since then. Pain meds dull the pain and make it tolerable, but it doesn't go away. Sometimes going to the bathroom makes the pain flare up again. Laying down also seems to make it easier to handle. I have my 1 week follow up today, otherwise I may have already gone to the ER. Has anyone else had anything like this?
  14. My BMI is under 40, I have a pre-op diet of 1200 cal, low fat, low carb for 2 weeks. It is designed to shrink the liver so that it is easier to move and there is less risk for damage to the liver. The diet my surgeon gave me is essentially 5 slimfast bars or shake and 5oz of lean protein with 2 cups of non starchy vegetables for dinner, and one fat.

    Eating post surgery question

You do have to do shakes in the beginning stages, usually for a liquid pre op diet and then for a week or two after surgery. Many continue to use them because it's an easy source of Protein to make sure they meet their protein requirement post-op. But you don't have to if you are able to get enough protein elsewhere in your diet. Also, you say you have 150lbs to lose, are you saying you wouldn't be satisfied with 105-120 of that being gone forever? Many people change their goals as they lose, especially when they have that much to lose. However, it is a tool, so it is what you make of it. You can lose it all through a lot of effort on your part with working out, and maybe even plastic surgery to take care of lose skin which can account for 5,10,15 lbs or more depending on how your skin reacts to that much weight loss. How well your skin does is based on genes, age, and current condition. There are definitely a lot of variables to consider, and I agree with mags, you should go to a seminar at a local hospital to get more info! And poke around this site, there is much to be learned. Good luck to you!

    No wieght loss

I am at 50% goal weight. Something I have learned. One week you lose pounds and the next week you lose inches. Just measure and count. You are losing and you don't realize it. Now, there are people who cheat and they don't lose an ounce. But for those that do as the diet challenges, you WILL lose. It is your guess if it will be pounds or inches.
  17. Hi Renee~ I just had my Lap Band surgery last week with Tricare (Marine Corps). Tricare does not require a 6 month pre-op diet. If you have any questions fill free to ask me. The whole process was very easy for me. Tricare approved everything (all my pre-op requirements, surgery, etc.) very quickly. It took me just under 4 months from start to finish (Getting my referral from PCM to surgery), but that's because me Lap Band doctor is very thorough. I personally did not have to do a sleep apnea test, but my doctor decides on a case to case basis (usually he makes people get them, so I was shocked when I didn't have to).
  18. I did a protein shake for breakfast and lunch. A Dannon Light & Fit (60-90 calorie one) around 3pm 4 oz meat and unlimited vegetables for dinner. Took a walk everyday. I lost close to 20 lbs in 3 weeks but it wasn't easy. I just kept thinking about the surgery.

    May 10th

I have to do a liquid diet starting one week before surgery then the day before it's clear liquids only.
  20. Well that really sux!! I hate that for you, what a letdown. But like you said no liquid diet so thats one good point. That was definately the hardest thing to go through for me. Not that banding is easy, it is not, but to go from eating alot to nothing for 2 weeks was sure a really hard thing to do. Good luck with your surgery !!

    How Soon

I'm not sure I completely understand your question..... but, I don't believe it's healthy to feel "full" after only 4-5 bites. You need a good balance of the proper amt of calories/protein. You were only banded 11 weeks ago, that's an average of almost 2 lbs a week. You don't want to lose too fast, take my word.. loose, flabby skin will result. I have a 10 cm band (max fill capacity 4cc) and am currently filled to 3.5cc = if I eat the WRONG things I usually can't get more than 4 bites down. It takes TIME to learn to eat properly and get to a good/comfortable fill level. Try NOT to concentrate on the numbers, don't put so much pressure on yourself. All the best, Karla
  22. Hey Peanut... First off, don't freak out! I know, easier said than done. My hubby has to lose 60 pounds before surgery! Since we're self pay--he chose his date and has given himself 2 months to lose the weight. It's alot of weight for a short period of time, but I'm staying positive and very supportive. So, the nutritionist put him on the Induction phase of the Atkins diet. He'll be on that until next week (4 weeks of Atkins) and after, he's doing all liquids until surgery on 7/18 (basically Opti-Fast shakes). Whatever you chose, just make sure you're comfortable with it. The last thing you want to do is to start something extreme and not be able to follow through with it and bum yourself out even more. You don't need the added stress. Good luck on your upcoming diet and surgery. You're sure to do great. Congratulations! -Lili

Start my preop diet on the 3rd

I started my pre-op diet on 1/3. I get banded on 1/11. I think it is going to be a long week. I feel sorry for the taco bell girl. I love that place. I'm hungery just thinking about it. Good luck to all of us. WE CAN DO IT.
  24. I am fairly new to this process. This week I have been doing all of my first appointments. I met with the Nutritionist yesterday and they are not who I will be seeing for the 6 month diet that CIGNA requires it was just an appointment to let me know what to expect after surgery. I got the feeling the entire time that the nutritionist was trying to talk me out of having the surgery. She made everything that I had to eat after surgery sound so terrible. I guess they may try to weed out some people who aren't really serious about this ? I kept countering her with positives explaining that anything I give up is well worth it compared to everything I have gone through and do go through with my weight. Has anyone else had a similar experience?

    Recovery question

I am virtual and my set-up is the same as yours. I took two weeks off but probably could have gone back at one week if I had too. But the healing and and adjusting to the new diet will leave you exhausted. My brain was foggy during recovery. I served my company better by staying away until I was a 100%.
