When you do see your surgeon for consultation, ask if he/she is requiring you to lose weight because you're right at 40. I would also advise you to speak to your insurance to see if they will deny you if your BMI dips below 40, unless you have 2 or more co-morbidities. This is one of the questions I asked in the bariatric FB group because my BMI is 44, and if I lose 21 lbs then I'll be below 40. Thankfully my surgeon is NOT requiring me to lose any weight pre-surgery. Sent from my Galaxy Note 10+ using BariatricPal mobile app

I truly understand!! I had my sleeve 8/16/17 and I’ve lost 90lbs total and gained 10 in the last year! I’m comfortable weight wise but I’m with you about this face!! I loved my face 50-60lbs in but now I’m trying to find collagen supplements and or skin care products to help with the sagging 😳 Ughhhh!! Lol!

I don't regret it for a moment. Literally the best thing I could have done. I remember being a week out and nervous as could be constantly thinking "What am I about to do to myself". Honestly, the best advice I could give would be to stop reading the horror stories online. I went in on June 10th 2019. I waited in pre-surgery for what seemed like forever which they gave me water and Tylenol. The docs came out and told me what was going to happen and then a short while later I was wheeled in to the room. It was chaos, but the nurse who had been with me stayed by my side. I was in the room for maybe three minutes when they said we just gave you something that's going to make you sleepy. That was it. Out like a light. I woke up in recovery and I was sore but not in incredible pain. Still groggy I slept off and on until about midnight when I had the gas pains in the shoulder and neck that I had been warned about. The night nurse was great, she came and walked me every half hour and every time I walked the pain lessened. I spent most of the night walking, eating Popsicles and drinking water. (I hate jello but it was available) Swallowing hurt at first but it was similar to strep throat. Not impossible or agonizing. By noon time the next day I just wanted to go home. I felt okay and was ready to be free from the boring hospital room. For the first few weeks I slept in a recliner rather than my bed because the incisions were uncomfortable when I laid down. Not horrible pain but nagging enough to keep me awake. My wife set up protein shakes in shot glasses in the fridge so every hour or so I would get up and walk around and take a shot. I moved on to soups and finally that first scrambled egg meal was the best. I ate a lot of single egg omelets with cheese. In fact, my wife says I got so good at making omelets in the first thirty days that she'll put my omelets against any breakfast joint in town. The hardest part was coping with not eating with everyone else when I returned to work and social outings. That and staying in clothes that fit. Thrift stores became my best friend as I was dropping a pant size every couple weeks at first. A lot of people are put off as they feel others treat them differently as they lose weight and it becomes a mental barrier for them. For me, I completely understood because I was treating myself differently. I wasn't the same as I was before. My normal just isn't the same as it was before, but it's better. My quality of life has improved so much since June. I run now. Not like just a little. I run 3-4 times a week. Miles at a time. Before I could barely walk .3 of a mile. My confidence is through the roof and I actually like buying new clothes. I can go out and do things I was afraid to do before. So of course the people around me are treating me differently. I am different. Will you ever feel like the normal you felt before? Probably not, but if you're like me your normal from before felt pretty bad. The new normal will be worth every second of discomfort and struggle. P.S. If your surgeons office offers support groups. Do it. P.S.S Take lots of pictures, you'll regret not having them later as you reach the big milestones.

Any June 2019 sleevers out there? How are yall doing?

I had a sleeve done in 2015, did well, lost 92 lbs, gained back about 25 lbs now, during the past year as I cannot get my heartburn/Gerd under control. I was given Protonix again, was on it after surgery, but now a stronger dose... I went to my surgeon, actually his colleague in the same office and she advised to up the dosage of the Protonix and get an end and some studies done. I did that -- they did some Xrays, a CT scan, endo and colonoscopy and I was told stay on the meds at this rate for at least 3 months. She said any changes or its worse, come in and see her before the 3m time and since she was ready to give birth any mind, said to see her colleague. I did just that - she's out on maternity leave and I saw another dr. in her office and he suggested upping the meds again, to 2x per day and another over the counter at night time so avoid the GERD issues. I can't keep anything down, you'd think I would be thin LOLLL it's the opposite, I'm maintaining, but I have GERD 24/7. Its horrible, even water does it. So long story short - he said he would recommend the revision, which she did too - as well as fix an umbilical hernia I have that bothers me. The surgical coordinator called, temporary scheduled for March 18 for a revision, said he will get pre auth from GHI, my insurance and if it's weight gain, don't get my hopes up of it being approved.. he's always been a non friendly guy, even years ago, it's like I'm bothering him. He must deal with horrendous people all day to act the way he does, but besides that.... He said don't get my hopes up and he'll pencil me in for March 18. He said I didn't come back to the office for years, erhmm, why should I - I was feeling fine... Gastro doc told me my GERD could be due to the sleeve and to go back to my surgeon, which I did - has nothing to do with weight gain - I'm not dealing with GERD for the rest of my life.... It's really really bad.. Anyway, GHI said they cover the procedure, just needs pre auth and it could take 7-10 days to get back... so I'll keep my fingers crossed and not listen to the surgical coordinator guy ... maybe he needs a drink LOL Anyone have any luck with GHI/Emblem Health for the revision - my husband carries City Of NY coverage of GHI. Good luck all

HELP - Drank Water w/ Meals Post Op
BayougirlMrsS replied to SamDS's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
you should not be drinking with meals is like the #1 rule. The way to stop..... don't have it on the table... and i say table because its the only place she should be eating. Even when eating out i tell the waiter to not even bring it to the table.... Because out of habit, you will pick up the glass and you will drink... it's not that you want to or even need to you just will. Put a timer on your phone after you swallow your last bite. You want to make it work... do your part and follow the rules. Portion your food (i personally use 1/8cup), cut your food in tiny bites (everything), take one bite, put down the fork, let go of the fork, place hands under your butt/thighs, chew each bite for at least 20 seconds, swallow, wait and let go down (for me its' about 10 sec), assess my full triggers (for me it's left shoulder pain), pickup fork take another bite... repeat..... if you finish your meal, set timer for 30 min., get up and put dish in sink/dishwasher. This is when i normally start prepping a lunch meal for the next day for me and my husband (if he is in town). Start cleaning the kitchen... by then the timer goes off and i have a drink. -
Vsg to mgb?!
BayougirlMrsS replied to Builtbetter78's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I agree with @catwoman7 Without the head work and getting to the bottom of why you do what you do.... No WLS is going to help in the long run. and defiantly going to Mex won't help as their only concern is getting the money. I was headed down there before i found my dr. here. They never asked if i had any type of counseling before. The only concern was booking me in and getting the money. I had counseling with the band and sleeve.... A lot of my eating came from wanting to control something.... My ex-husband controlled everything and food was the only thing i had. Plus I had been sexually assaulted at a teen and didn't really realize how much it affected me. But people eat for different reasons... The MGB was what i was going to Mex for. Then i found a dr here willing to do the "revision" 10 min from my work. He doesn't do the MGB so the sleeve it was.... 8/8/19. Mex MGB was like 8800 i think.... the sleeve here cash pay was 14k. But i factored in the time off of work, travel and the peace of mind that my dr was only 10 min from work and 20 min from my house... -
Protein shakes and nausea
TESSAXKCX33 replied to brooksbrittanyanne's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hi I didn't have dairy before my op, I am currently 10 days post op and I can not get any protein shakes down, I have ordered protein water from amazon its mango and orange sugar free and tastes really nice its 20g or protein per bottle . -
I am also new here I found the place yesterday and posted something about needing bypass surgery due to the extremely painful gastric reflux that I have been experiencing now, five years after surgery, because the sleeve created pressure and acid all backed up. My memory is fuzzy on the gastric sleeve surgery 5 years ago I believe I was about 230 lb after losing a little over 10 lb before the surgery. Losing weight after surgery was not difficult because there was no compulsion to eat. I think I got down to the 170's. That's when problems started. I'm a compulsive overeater and this procedure does nothing with my head and I did nothing to help myself like call my doctor. Now I am in the 190-195 range. even though I'm not eating a huge volumes of food I ate sugar. Maybe if I returned to the doctor when the problem started I wouldn't be in the situation I am now. My lower back and knees are very bad I have others conditions including fibromyalgia which makes me exhausted and staying in bed almost 20 to 22 hours a day. I am 72 today ,almost wrote 71, and going for an upper GI series later today so the doctor can see what has to be done. I have a hiatal hernia that needs repairing and to stop the terrible reflux he's going to do a bypass. I do not know how common it is to have the severe reflux, that's something I'd like to know about from other people. And for you not having surgery yet, you might mention it to your doctor. You might realize it's almost 5 in the morning for me and I have been up for hours. My insomnia has not helped with my overeating. Only sleeping a few hours at allows for unnecessary eating. Good luck to you all and I hope you learn I'm some of my mistakes.

Hello maintenance peeps! So I’ve had a weird week: Did 3 workouts yesterday (one of them was low-key, mostly stretching) and worked 10 hours. It was so busy at work that I didn’t get enough calories in, but I got in about 50-55gm Protein (before 5pm). After my last Pilates class I was home at 7:45pm and hubs had dinner ready: pork tenderloin and a salad pack. By the time I got home I was STARVING. this wasn’t head hunger, I was legit HUNGRY. For some reason, the pork didn’t look appetizing at all and I dove straight into the salad mix. I dumped 1 cup salad mix (usually have 0.5-0.75 cups with 2oz meat) and wolfed it down within 5 mins. A whole cup of salad mix in 5 minutes. That wasn’t the worst part tho. I was still starving after that 5 minute and like an idiot went in for.....MORE SALAD. I was about 4-5 bites into another half cup when I got the worst intestinal cramps. Thought I was gonna die and had to put down my fork ASAP. spent the next couple of hours miserable on my couch and then didn’t sleep well all night. I’ve been battling intense nausea all day and have maybe had 24 ounces of Water and 200-300 calories today (1/2 a Premier Protein, 3 bites out of a P3 thingie, and half a pack of bariatric cream of chicken soup). I’m just now starting to feel quasi-normal again, though my tummy still feels slightly full. I was able to make it through work, but had to cancel tonight’s Pilates class. Has anyone else ever done anything like this to themselves and how long does it take to not feel as if your sleeve is full even when you’ve had next to no food in over 24 hours?

THE SLOW LOSERS CLUB SUPPORT THREAD
KarenLR75 replied to Serengirl's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I understand the temptation and actually feeling that way..let's see you are 16 days out from surgery, is that correct? I was...a bit stunned during my first month that barely anything happened (my DEFINITE interpretation at the time and the first 2 weeks weight loss was from all I had been given to understand and yes..comparing myself against others....was so so little. I called my surgeon's office and talked to him and the nutritionist. They told me repeatedly something I had not seen here before (not that it might not have been said many times by others) but they told me DESPITE what I have found on many forums, they have done this for well more than a decade and that directly post-op, whether you were on IV fluids for 1 day, 2 days or more..or even NONE, that MANY people do not start hitting their body's full potential for weight loss until after they have HEALED which would be 6 weeks for RNY - unsure what it is for sleeve..maybe the same. I, however, felt after haunting WLS forums for 3 years PRIOR to surgery, that while I knew my doctor was very good, they simply HAD TO BE WRONG....I mean...I read how many hundreds of post of all of these people losing at LEAST 10 lbs a month. I thought I was 'oh so careful' to only compare my weight loss against other women...around the same age...and who had additional metabolic challenges (whether it be from medications, illnesses, PCOS, thyroid, etc.).....so I thought sensibly...I'm not comparing myself against a 'young man' or even a young woman. I finally quit looking at some of the posts, I sought out my surgery siblings more..the ones who had a slightly slower weight loss...I read some of the threads from the vets and basically white-knuckled my way thru month 1, month 2. Flash forward to now...6 months out as of 3 days ago and I started posting on this thread. In working with some of the vets when I posted here, we have looked at my total weight loss since surgery and then averaged it out and my monthly weight loss at SIX MONTHS is 12.6 lbs a month! If you had told me in Months 1 or 2...like my poor doctor tried to tell me...that things would WORK THEMSELVES out if I just stuck to it, I'd be leery...and that indeed was what I was told. Ironically in week 8, 2 weeks after 'you are healed by now' date, my weight loss kicked up higher. Some of my fellow siblings or ppl who had surgery in the late summer, early fall...the ones who lost a lot in month 1, oh how i remember that month, are starting to slow down a bit (nothing to be worried about)...some are now hitting 10 lbs a month consistently (and hey, I literally AM losing roughly 12 lbs a month and that is NOT with just averaging). Please hang in there...be kind to yourself and your body...it is literally still healing. The surgery is a big one and your body has been shaken up. You are a rockstar with the working out! I truly admire that. If you hang in there, the weight will come off and it won't remain in single digits. If it helps, even though you are on liquids, post what you are drinking, overall calories, etc. but again, the first month after surgery is really really rough on your body even if you feel 'ok'. My calories for the first month were 450 or less..some days 100, some days 200-250. Your body has to settle itself out so some of us do not see that gigantic loss in the first month and we think it is for nothing. It WILL COME OFF. With your level of exercise, and knowing what month 1 is like...I promise it WILL COME OFF if you are working your plan. -

January 2020 Surgery Date
Uomograsso replied to Krimsonbutterflies's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Don't worry, that too shall pass, lol. Luckily I didn't have that requirement to go home. They just listened to make sure my bowels were making noise. I have been pretty gassy since about day 4 Post-OP with my first BM on day 10. Ask your doctor about adding fiber to your liquid diet like miralax or benefiber. That should help as well. -
December 2019 Sleevers, how are you doing? What’s your stats?
Mahtab replied to smb123's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
It has been 43 days since my surgery (Dec. 16, 2019) and I have only lost 22 lbs. Had the three week stall and since then I have only lost 2 lbs. It is driving me nuts. Keeping my calories around 600-700 and started working out twice a week. No change in clothes fitting either. My start weight was 96 kg and I am now at 86 kg. first week was when I lost the most weight. I hope it starts to move soon, been reading all these forums and I haven't seen anyone in my situation. -
Hey peeps, I had my sleeve done in Turkey in August 2019, Turkey was great, very efficient testing n stuff, i don't really have any tips or hints just bring comfy clothes for the plane journey back and a long lead charger for your phone or tablet. re protein, i as a big carb eater too but getting the protein in isnt too bad, ive lost my enjoyment of food so i dont really care what i eat anymore as long as it goes down well n i dont throw it up after. good luck n keep us posted, hope this helped some

Did any of you keep your surgery a secret? I have! Please give input!
BayougirlMrsS replied to Freedom&Bliss's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
@Brent7 We are more secretive, but we can't be trusted with not blabbbbing.... I got sleeved 8/28/19... so 5 months ago and i have lost 39lbs... I told the people at the Crossfit, work and friends here I would be out for Hernia SX. Which turned out to be true. Dr. found a Hiatal hernia and fixed it. Anyway, by Sept. 26 (wedding day) i had lost 20lbs. I had only made it to the gym a few times before we left to get married in GA. But people at the gym and at work did notice the 20lbs. very few said anything. Had to take off another couple week for some deep tissue mole removals.... went back at about 25ish lbs... same few said,.. you're looking great. then of course Holidays and Hunting season and came and well if i have a choice between working out and hunting.... I'm going hunting. and trust the 1/2 mile walk with 10lbs of extra clothes, 10 backpack and a gun is no easy task. Anyway, fast forward to January and now im back...... 39lbs down and it seems like everyone has noticed and has come up to me to say...... Wow chris you have lost a lot of weight.... How (cuz they know i haven't been there)... I just say portion control. And it's not just the women asking.... men too.... -
10/15/18! Good luck.
-
Way to go! And in 10 weeks too! Congrats!
