    Hospital stay

Usually 1-2 days, but really depends on the person, I was sleeved 10/5 and still here, but other people that was sleeved the same day or even after are already gone
  2. Sleeved 10/12 - saw my NUT today for my one month appt. We went through what I have been eating (or not eating) and she said I need to double my calorie intake! I've been getting about 400 calories and she wants me closer to 800. That seems like an insurmountable hurdle to me - lol! Who would have thought I would ever hear that I need to eat more! Love my sleeve, losing slowly but steadily. Best decision I ever made.
  3. I had my surgery 10/12. I am scared to death of slipping back into my old ways, and all of this was for not. Now that I feel better, it is so hard not to go back to my normal life. Everyone thinks this is an easy way out, it is a far cry from it. I am so confused on what is the right way of doing things. I worry constantly if I eat this or that, is it the beginning to failure? I work two jobs and am often time exhausted between that and keeping up with my family. How do I balance all of this and exercise into the equation? How do I cook for them knowing that I can't eat that meal that I just made? For right know these are the things that I struggle with the most. How do all of you all deal with it? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  4. I was sleeved 2-6 also. Bedhead and I are buddies I sure hope you feel better SOON girly' but NO I do not regret it even this early the first week was kinda rough for me but I have been blessed that I have had not problems drinking or eating from day 1 and I have lost 19 total so far counting my 1 week pre op diet. If this keeps up and I'm sure I will I will be looking and feeling better in no time! Sent from my iPhone using VST
  5. I had gastric sleeve surgery 10 weeks ago. Ever since I came out of it I had a terrible reaction, bloody vomits with clogs. 7 days after surgery I came down to the ER with a leak at the union between the esofagus and the stomach right at the Hiz angle with abdomen infection and they opened me up to wash the abdomen. I had several bad diagnoses that bring me to the tenth week without any improvement. I am consulting a second doctor and he recommended enteral nutrition with a probe from my nose to the jejunum at the intestines. This probe will keep me feeded and helps relieve presion from the sleeve and that would presumably to help close the leak. This is the second time I have this probe because the first time it was wrongly located by the first doctor. The second probe was introduced just this wednesday through an endoscopic procedure, they noticed my sleeve was twisted and obstructed because of the small width at the first cut with a transversal appearance. So with this finding they presume this is the cause for the leak which is located exactly at the "his angle" , where the esofagus and the stomach meet. The doctor says it is imperative to resolve the twisting at the sleeve and the obstruction so that the leak can begin to close. The location of the leak makes it very difficult for a bypass conversion. The next step to prevent the stomach from twisting is inject botox to the stomach so that it won't move for a period of time and also use a special balloon to expand or dilate the part of the stomach that is obstructed because of the width. Other options are a speacial prothesis to prevent the twisting, stents and ovesco for the leak, and thinking about the worst case scenario a bypass convertion of total gastrectomy in about 6 months. Can someone tell me if they are going through something similar, if they went through a complication relatable to mine? What has been your experience and what do you think about my options? Thank you for reading!
  6. Lmao! You're not alone. I'm 10 days post op and also very hungry!! What the hell?! I mean after I eat several bites I get full faster but man I would kill to be off liquids and eating real good again. Nothing bad I just want some salmon and veggies!! Just something dear lord!! Haha just had to say that aloud for once.

    Failure/Failing

@@coloreyes Congrats on your loss so far! I had a few sessions of therapy pre-op to deal with this type of issue. I believe it helped (although I'm only 10 days out so that's yet to be proven). I agree about cutting out carbs - they just make you crave them more. Go back to tracking - focus on protein and getting in enough fluids. You have come this far - you can do it!
  8. I had my surgery on 03/17/2015 and I thought, this is it!!!! I had read stories of people that gained back all the weight and sometimes more and I thought why would you do that and how could you if your stomach was removed. I had the Sleeve and I said not me no way no how. WELL here we are in 10/28/16 and I have not gotten to goal and have been fighting the same 8lbs for the last 8 month. food is a whole lot easier to eat and eat I have been and then I realize I am up the same eight and get back on track and lose a few and that VICIOUS VICIOUS cycle will start again. I am in other Bariatric sites and even buy their expensive Protein powder saying this will get me back on track but my MIND JUST WONT HELP ME. How do you make your mind understand to let the sweets and carbs go and not want them. I am like some sick addict that at night says I will not touch it, I will get clean and then morning comes and I fall right into the addiction of bad food. I get super jealous (the good kind) when I see others who have succeeded and look at the before and after photos and am like COME ON WOMAN this could be you and for a fleeting instant I can tackle it but then the addict comes back out and I get my fix of something or anything--even if it doesn't taste good. A sick addict does that. I want to reach my goal by my birthday in Feb 2017--a little over 30lbs to get there and I hope that I can reign in this addict that lives within me to get there.

    To All Business Owners

Delarla - you & I could seriously talk!! I ran a thriving, successful business with The Pampered Chef for 10 years. As I'm sure you know, The Pampered Chef is a part of the Direct Sales business just like Slumber Parties. I quit my full-time job to do Pampered Chef full-time & it was the BEST decision I ever made. I moved up to a Senior Sales Director & my team led in Sales & Recruiting for a very long time. I had over 400 in my over-all downline. I was the area trainer & developed a total of 12 Directors under me & I taught them to train their teams. I had several consultants under me who were #1 in the company!! I earned the Top Performance Award several years in a row for Recruiting & Sales & got all the jewelry, prizes & all the fun stuff you told us about at your recent Conference. I've been on every trip you can imagine!! I was making quite a good income too!! Direct Sales is a great way to go & I applaud you for deciding to leave your Paralegal job & take this on. There's lots of work a head of you but it is so worth it!! You'll take a drop in pay the first year, but if you really kick it in gear, you'll make it straight to the top!!!! 6 months ago I retired from The Pampered Chef & gave up my title, BIG pay-check & my large down-line. Everything moved up to my Up-line Director. It was a hard decision to make, & I still miss everything about it. But, I have 3 little kids who desperately needed a mother who was THERE for them. Several people thought I had lost my mind & I've been criticized for my decision, but I knew that no amount of money could take the place of my kids. :phanvan It was the right decision for me!! But boy, do I miss the MONEY!!!! I have helped a lot of people in my area who want help in starting a Direct Sales business. I have lots of tips on managing a team & helping them RECRUIT!! If you are serious about wanting some help, I'd be happy to help you. We can talk about payment!! Maybe you could pay me in products!! WAHOO!! (My husband would love that!!)

    Passport Question

I applied in early August and had mine in time for my 8/30/10 surgery. I did not expedite. The summer rush is over, so turnaround is more like 3 wks right now than 4-6 they quote.
  11. I'm brand new to this website. I am 36 and have been on a diet since I was 10, you name it, I tried it. I just made my 40< BMI (Yay chubby me) last week, Dr approved me, and now am just waiting for the bariatric surgery place to call me. What can I expect now? I am in California with Blue Shield Access + ***. I know there are nutritionalist sessions (How many?) And a period of supervised diet (How long?)

    Heating Blankets Recommendations Please

I wanted one that was auto shut off. They were pretty pricey. However, one day at the end of the season, I walked into WalMart and purchased 2 $10 and $15. They weren't ASO but worked great the same. Any place that sells them should have them on clearance soon.

    Prettynpink headed to Mexico!

Ok here is my detailed experience with Dr. Garcia/ Ready 4A Change I was initially contacted by email to receive a quote from alma with r4ac. She was not pushy at all and answered my questions within minutes. It wasn't until I realized how many people inquired on a daily basis that I was truly impressed with her customer service. She makes it seem as though she has all the time in the world just for you (even on Sunday...sorry Alma) . With something this new and serious I needed someone to be available and she ALWAYS was. Dr. Garcia could have been the best surgeon in his country, but if his coordinators were awful, I would have certainly reconsidered. Day 1- Marriot Stay Samuel picked me up on time, even though I missed my first flight. He was still there is less than 20 minutes. We waited for another sleever, crossed the border with no problems, headed to hotel. Check in was seamless and I had a good first night. Within 2 hours of check in I met Rosie, she is very detailed and very sweet also. They are on the ball! Day 2-3 Hospital Went to Florence/Oasis by hotel shuttle (Marriot driver was on some Speed Racer juice, Good God they drive horribly). Trip was only about 15 minutes. Within 10 minutes of arrival the so sweet Meli met us. We talked, she gave us the run down and we were in our rooms immediately. Pre op testing began immediately (blood work, urine samples ekg, x-rays). Following that the doctor, who also has WLS comes in to talk about the procedure and answer questions. Following her another doctor who has also had WLS comes on for questions. Paper work, questions...boring stuff. Then in come the man with the Happy drugs plan. He explains that he is the anesthesiologist and he will be by your side the entire time.. then following him....drum roll please....The One The Only DR. GARCIA. He has the sweetest smile EVER. I bet he doesn't have an enemy in the world. He shows the surgery procedure, speaks with you and you're wheeled off. Dr. Garcia called my husband immediately after the procedure. I woke up on my room I met the internist following recovery. YOU WILL SEE THEM ALL THE TIME. A doctor is on staff 24 hrs. He sits at the nurses station. Day following I had a lot of nausea but the nurses managed the pain and nausea well. Oh yeah...they didn't touch me with a needle until they were confident they could find my vein. One stick folks. They're English at Florence/ Oasis was superb, they work on a tight schedule. They were already doing before I could even ask. I was directly across from the station and can tell you all, I saw with my own eyes, they wash their hands constantly! PS drain removal feels like a snake in your tummy. Strange but zero pain Days 3-4 Back to that super comfy bed at the Marriot. Only gripe: I could not get them to connect calls to me on my last night there. Never stayed at a hotel that didn't transfer calls to a room. With the amount of international patients that stay there, they may want to consider a line for incoming calls. Also, didn't sleep much because of banging due to repairs. I got unlucky. All in all the hotel experience was good. However, I wait to get to the hotel to start with gas issues, smh. Not much sleeping.for this girl. On my last night, Rosie came by with Dr. Luna and he removed my staples, painlessly. I got my paperwork, detailed information about how to eat, and my x-rays. Day 5 Going Home Going home started at 6am. We ran.into traffic, crossed the border and I was still 2 hrs early for my flight. Flying home is another long story I won't bore yall with. But, I'm home safe and sound. The Cartel didn't get me and all my organs are still in there. I would recommend Dr. Garcia and Ready 4 a Change to someone I love! The experience was great, I'm so happy I did this for myself. Please PM, or comment any questions. I'm here to help. I remember how much your posts helped me :-)
  14. My hubby found this and bought it for me... It was perfect for the warm weather today I've had it since 3:30 and its 10:30 and I still more than half. Good sipping drink still drinking my Water. But I think it's going to popular for me this summer Surgery date 7/25/12
  15. I had the band for 10 years and I felt like I was always hungry, but eating dense Protein often made me feel pain or discomfort. Since I knew that revisions might not lose weight as well, I talked alot to the nutritionalist about this. She started me down the path of not thinking about "full" or "too much". Rather I was to practice stopping eating when no longer hungry. Now, that was a new concept! So, I suggest that once you are on solid foods you start thinking that way - absence of hunger, not full. I have vomited a few times since being sleeved, each time it was from inhaling food too fast. I don't know about foamies or any of that... I am 2.5 years out and have not experienced those things. Small quantities of dense protein and veggies, follow the guidelines and you will likely feel satiated. A couple of caveats... first 6 weeks, I ate by the measuring spoon and clock - while your stomach is healing you can't trust the "signals". Also, acid can feel like hunger so be sure you are on a PPI the first few months at least while your body adjusts to a small tummy.
  16. I unexpectedly became pregnant 4 months after I got banded. I gained back the weight I had lost plus 10 (50 total). I lost 80 after baby #1 and then got pregnant again. I only gained 20 with her and am working to take it off. So, it's kind of unpredictable. Both times my band was completely unfilled because of heavy morning sickness.

    6 Month Supervised Diet

Hi! I also have a bmi of 43 and just started the 4th month of my 6 month waiting period. My dr advised me to lose 5-10 lbs before surgery-20 at most as to not go below a bmi of 40. She said it probably be ok if I lost more but could result in an insurance headache.

  19. Hi, i had my lap band put in by Dr. Kuri almost 10 years ago. I've had a really good experience up until now; my port has disconnected. Since I was self pay I will need to go back to Mexico to have it fixed. Has anyone been to Tijuana lately and if so how safe is it? Thanks for the help! Mixxie
  20. It will get better. One advantage of the situation is when you feel you are getting constipated, you can just correct it easily with food having a little fat in it! I used that to my advantage over the past 10 years!

    Pain in the Arse Neighbors

I have conflicting thoughts on this. We had a neighbor (a renter) who played his stereo loud with the bass turned waaay up. To the point that I could feel it in my chest while I was taking a shower. We honestly couldn't hear our own music or TV. It didn't bother the other neighbors as much because of the placement of the houses. We tried talking to him, but it did no good. Finally, we called the police. They came first to our house, but of course it wasn't playing then. They made a visit to the neighbor to ask him to tone it down. He proceeded to turn it up EVEN MORE!! He told us he was punishing us because we called the police and they weren't going to make him stop. My DH had words with him, and the A**hole said he wouldn't turn it down until I came over and apologized to him in person. Our lives were so miserable that I did it. And he dressed me down for a good 10 minutes. I didn't see any improvement either. Then they moved away. Whew! Then a year later they MOVED BACK!!!:huggie: Talk about an adrenaline rush when we saw them again. We finally had no choice but to sell our house and move away. It was so sad. So, just be careful. It could get worse.

    Sooo weird

I have been swallowing Water in a more normal fashion than I thought I would be since the first week post-op, but now, at Day 26 post-op, I would almost characterize drinking water as "normal" for me. When I was able to introduce Premier Protein shakes at Day 10 post-op, though, it took me about 2 hours to drink one. Now, I can drink one in about 20 minutes. I count my blessings about the water, though, as I have read about many people who are still sipping weeks out from surgery.

    Stress eating

So sorry for your child's hurt. Please seek therapy for the family. This is going to sound a little odd, but when you relive it over and over in your mind and try to take blame you are just causing that pain to yourself. The original pain has already happened and you cannot change the incident; while it takes healing and dealing with that when you revisit it you yourself are continuing it. I know it is new information and takes time to absorb. Don't give it power by hurting yourself with food, then you become a victim and it wins again. if you can't do therapy for whatever reason, go to the library and look up books by Byron Katie, one I found useful was 'Loving What Is'. There are others and other authors that help with trauma. At your desk, bring snack bags of 20 almonds, a couple string cheese, and maybe a greek yogurt. I know you say you don't move around much at work, but I worked a desk job and I know you are allowed breaks - so especially at the break after lunch I insist you take it and you walk for 10 minutes, and don't eat lunch at your desk. You are actually more productive if you take those breaks. You are already a success with your weight loss. Honor that now by continuing. Good luck.

    Liquid diet anyone?

I am scheduled for surgery on 5/19 and on my 4th day of liquids. I have only been doing the Medifast drinks, but I have read some great suggestions to add. Thanks for the support and, yes, we can all do it!!
