  1. I got the labband in 2007. Had had some success with it, lost and have kept of right at 60 lbs. I have struggled with the usual problems that come with the band, heartburn, acid reflux etc. Well it was determined about three weeks ago that my band has slipped. The Doc recommended removal and revision to RNY. It request was submitted to BCBS for approval. Received a copy of the letter, and they have approved the removal but not the revision. I do not meet the criteria now. I have worked hard to losse this weight and try to keep it off, and I know without the band or something I will gain all of the weight back. I have been unfilled and it is already starting to happen. My lapban surgery was with a diffrent insurance not BCBS so it would be my first WLS with them. The criteria says that I have the diagnosis of morbid obesity for a period of 2 years prior to sugery, duh, I had the band and got my weight down; My bmi is now 33, so still suffer from obesity but not morbid obesity with a comorbidity I no longer have a problem with blood pressure like I did before I am no longer borderline diabetic I still need to loose about 50 lbs Has anyone else had this problem and how do you fight it? Thanks, Laura

    Tricare, Fort Bragg

Dr. Perkins has been so great- she did my sleeve and also took out my gallbladder two months later, so I have seen her quite a bit these past weeks, plus I also work at Womack so I see her around as well. I was lucky to have everything done before Jasmin and Caron left, but I know things are crazy now.

I am going to do it!!!!

My surgery was 1 month after the seminar...7/10 seminar, 8/11 surgery. However even after a 3 week preop loss of 15 pounds my liver was still fatty so I got the band 8/29, which comes to .... just over 7 weeks total. Self pay people could probably have gotten in a little more quickly...so I guess this month is feasible if they told you it could happen that quickly! My doc's office told us at the seminar the fastest they could make it happen with all the preop tests etc would be 2 weeks. I guess it depends on your locale, surgeon, and situation!

    Similar Situation?

Not to argue but the average person weighing 250 pounds burns approximately 150 calories per mile. 150 x 6 miles is only 900 calories, a far cry from Three Thousand to Three Thousand Six Hundred calories. Maybe some of the problem is that he thinks he's burning more than he really is. I realize that people burn more or less depending on age, height, etc, but your talking a difference of 2,700 calories???

I have been banded for a few weeks. it will be like the 6-7th day and most symptoms will go away just make sure you are walking around when you start to feel these pains and also gas-x worked great for me but i learned you have to take it faithfully to the max . drink little at a time as much as possible it helps if you can drink warm liquids it will help dissipate the gas fast. I hope this helps...

    Introduction

We have all been we're you are the first 2 weeks are a struggle & at the very first days after surgery I kept saying to my husband why did I do this...I should not have done this... Those first days of those tiny sips thinking ..really? But it keeps getting easier and better! You will slowly get better at drinking and getting your protein in. It takes getting used to but it happens. I remember thinking OMG I will never be able to chug down a glass of cold lemon water again which was my favorite, but now I can drink quickly about 1/2 glass...so I am happy with that ! Trust us it all gets better & you probley will be able to eat just about everything again but with much better moderation. Me & about 99% of people on here would agree it's the best thing we ever did for ourselves & our health! Best of luck to you ! You will do great!

Yeah I've been without insurance for almost three years,my employer didn't offer insurance and with no SERIOUS health problems, I looked up and three years just flew by. But I just left my last PCP office(from 3 yrs ago) and they faxed my weight history along with my sleep apnea diagnosis. But I'm still worried

    insurance

I also have United Health Care. My insurance payed 90% in network. And since I had all my deductibles met I payed nothing. I saw the doctor 1st week November. And I had my surgery on December 5th. 1 month from surgery I am down 40 pounds. I see the doctor tomorrow. We will see how much. I am do happy I did this. The financial advisor and I worked to together to gather all the information to be approved before I saw the doctor. Our work payed off. At my appt. The doctor said as soon as we get the approval we can schedule the surgery. I told him we can schedule. I had to follow the liquid diet for 2 weeks and see him again. I saw him on the Monday before my surgery. I never thought they would call that afternoon and offer me the last date available on December. I told the doctor I had to have it done before thr year ended. That was fast.

    pain stories

You may have that pain up to 6 weeks until you are recovered. You will be fine, trust me. Any time you need to get up from sitting or laying down, hold your stomach and then get up. That helps alot. You will be fine. Josephine

    day 4 post-op

I was banded on the 29th. Had same experience. It was so bad went to the Dr. 3 days later. He told me this feeling is very common and is due to the band being tight around the stomach and releif will come after healing and weight loss. Even now a week later I am still on pain meds but am finding the sensation is weakening some.

Hope this is the right place.. Will insurance cover if

I will be self-pay if insurance denies me. My surgeon's fee includes three months of BLIS insurance and covers anything that could go wrong 100% during the first three months post-op.

    APPROVED BY INSURANCE!

Congrats, I should know something by next week.
  17. I am on 3 premier protein ready made shakes per day ( 160 cal, 30g protein, 1g sugar, 5 carbs ) and I have 1 sugar free jello and 1 sugar free popsicle each day. I can have some vegetables, such as cucumbers, lettuce, etc as well as low sodium broth. I do not have issues with my liver, it was more of a goal my surgeon set for the 2 weeks prior to surgery to be safer. I am just going to continue with the plan and trust the process. less than a week away, so getting excited and anxious... Thank you for your comments and suggestions - I sincerely appreciate it .

    approved thru cigna!

I was approved thru cigna Thursday and received my letter syaing I was approved today. I was looking on there and the authorization effect day, is that like the day they plan to take you in for surgery cause its exactly 3 weeks from my pre-op. The sheet they sent me says. AUTHORIZATION DATES 6/28/2013- 6/29/2013 TOTAL DAYS APPROVED:1 and something about a bed type. Ans says if I need further services past my one approved day that they will have to go thru insurance and make sure it'll be covered. Soo what id this authorized day?

    Scared Of Exercise

You have to find something that you enjoy, and not think of it as exercise. In my case just like you I use to hate exercise, I did not grow up in a family that exercises of even be into sports or teams. I now enjoy and actually LOVE going to the gym and take the Zumba classes. This week I just finish my 6 day in a roll of taking a Zumba class. I think that's the key, try out different classes, start out slow, until you find something that you will enjoy.

    One week before surgery

  23. Okay, I had my first appointment at Emory on October 23. My insurance requries a 3 month supervised diet. I go back to the surgeon on November 26, which is about a month after the first visit. That means one month is done with the diet, two more to go. That means at December 2x appointment, I will finish month two and January 2x appointment, I will finish month three. At that point, I should be able to send off insurance information and have surgery shortly after, sometime in February or early March.. BUT why are people telling me that a 3 month supervised diet actually means 4 months? And why did the front desk lady say that my supervised diet doesn't start until my second appointment?

Resistance work with a bad shoulder?

Funny thing about that. I had surgery in my 40's for what turned out to be 3rd degree impingement on the left. I didn't have symptoms from the shoulder, but had trouble on an off in my upper back and neck from accomodating for it. Finally the tendons started shredding and I had actual shoulder pain. I had to have 11mm ground off the end of my clavicle where it was hooked over the top of my humerus. Despite that, I'd been a gymnast and a windsurfer. Yup, picked all the wrong sports! I have gotten advice about the shoulder - I did have a slight tear about seven years ago from overdoing in Water aerobics while I had bad back trouble. The tear is all better, and I no longer live where I can do water aerobics five times a week. The arthritis is, of course, better some days than others.
