Good for you James. I am 56yo myself and my bypass surgery is scheduled for Jan 12. I am so looking forward to losing some of this weight so I can actually exercise and enjoy walking without being in so much pain. I am very happy for you. -
Why don't more people get the MGB? I love mine!
cyndeelouwho replied to UnderTheCaliSun's topic in Mini Gastric Bypass Surgery Forum
Hi everyone hope you all are doing well. I myself, had an old school gastric bypass surgery in 1980. I have a consultation Jan 4th 2021. I'm really leaning towards a MGB. I just don't know how they can do it with my scar tissue? I'm nervous and scared that I worked myself up to this and a possible let down. Anyone know anything about this type of situation? If you know of any questions to ask the doctor please advise me. Thank you all for any help!!! -

No Band!!! Food Still Getting Stuck????? :(
LindasBlu replied to SamanthaMarie0102's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I get it. Went for band revision on 10/21/19 to do the sleeve. So until 11/30/20. I still found rare occasions for food sticking. Sleeve wasn't done last year due to scar tissue so that is why I had issues. Sent from my SM-J337V using BariatricPal mobile app -
Gastric band - been there, done that. Stopped working and I never felt full. So last year after my weight went back up I decided to have the revision and get the sleeve but due to the build up of scar tissue (surgery was May 2010), surgeon ran out of time to do the VSG safely. So had to wait until 11/30/20 and finally all was completed. I was told he might have to do the bypass and I prayed so hard that didn't happen. I'm 65 and glad I did it. I regained most of the weight I lost following the VSG. One mistake I made was to incorporate protein shakes into my daily nutrition. Non-processed food would have been more nutritious. The pre-op liquid diet was so effective that I used liquid meal substitutes long term. It wasn't satisfying, fulfilling, or sustainable. I had a revision to modified DS this year and improved my nutrition. Everything worked out better this time.

Revision from VSG to BP
California Guy replied to Glorious Release's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I had a revision VSG to SADI-S Modified DS (Loop DS) 7 months ago. I read this surgery produces 85% excess weight loss on average. Sure enough, I lost 85% of my excess weight this year. We got to the point of needing surgeries due to poor nutrition. If you make a permanent change to your daily nutrition plan, you will get similar results. With the VSG 7 years ago, I lost 77% of my excess body weight then regained most of it back. I failed to establish and follow a good nutrition plan. The revision was a second chance and mal absorption helped me get where I am. -
Revision from VSG to BP
GradyCat replied to Glorious Release's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Good question. And what do they revise? If your stomach is already sleeved, then they just it up now to bypass the stomach altogether? I'm not sure I understand revisions. Does the weight loss jumpstart again like it did with the original WLS? -
I’ve been approved for a revision

I know you didn't ask me this, but some insurance companies will approve revisions if there's a medical reason for them. So GERD would count... -
I’ve been approved for a revision
GradyCat replied to Glorious Release's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
So can I ask a question? What are the insurance criteria for revisions? You're under 40 GMI now, but you have GERD, so is that a comorbidity? Are the approval requirements for a revision different than for original surgery? -

6 days post-op, sharp stabbing pains. Is this normal?
ArcticFox posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had RNY bypass surgery and hiatal hernia repair on 12/22. I'm worried I over did it with walking. I've been having sharp pain on the left side of my abdomen and up under my ribs when I take deep breaths (the last 3-4 days). The pain is constant, but only becomes sharp/stabbing when I try to breathe deep or twist my torso. I'm still doing all clear liquids, getting my 60+ oz of water a day & added protien shakes today without issue. Wondering if this is normal and/or if anyone else experienced this. Thanks! Nov 2020 Bypass Peeps?
mb983782 replied to Lanie Hardy's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi! I had bypass on Nov.27th. -
Hello Everyone My name is Leontyne Lynn Jones. I go by Lynn. I am 60 years old, I had my Gastric Bypass RNY on July 7th 20. I am 5 months Post-Op. It has been a struggle for me, at first I had developed this very intense pain on my left side after my surgery, then once I was told that I could start eating regular food, I started feeling nauseous every time I would eat or drink, called the office which I had my surgery done at Summa in Akron, my surgeon was Dr. Dan. I had notified the office what I was experiencing, nothing was done until I went in for my 3 months follow-up. The Nurse Practitioner ordered for me to have an Upper GI done. Had the test done found out that I have acid reflux, plus 2 small ulcers in my pouch, currently on medication for it. I am suppose to have an Endoscopy done, but with this COVID going on I don't know when this will get done. I do have my 6 months follow-up next month. Too be honest I had doubts about having the surgery, I really struggle with my discussion, it really gotten worst when I started having complications. But know I am glad that I did have it, I am no longer on any medications and I feel good. I live in Norton, I look forward to meeting everyone in the group.

Depends on insurance. Usually for a revision you have to have some type of complication w the original wls -
Nov 2020 Bypass Peeps?
Grammie2 replied to Lanie Hardy's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It’s a nerve burn in my back that will stop the pain in my lower back and down my legs, on both sides, although my left side is worse than the right. I haven’t asked about pain meds yet. I still have some Tylenol with codeine left from my gastric bypass I’ve been hanging on to . I had been on Celebrex before my GP, but had to go off because of it being an NSAID. So my lower back nerves have really gotten agitated in the last 2 months. Thank you for asking. I afraid they won’t give it to me if I ask for something stronger. I’m taking cyclobenzaprine but it only makes me tired and doesn’t help with the pain. -
Welcome. I had a sleeve in 2013 and a revision to Modified DS in 2020. I hope your recover is smooth.

Revision due to GERD
Iheartnicole replied to Nurse Crystal's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Is the process to get insurance to pay for the revision the same as the process for getting the original sleeve ? -
Thank you for your post, Betty1971! I have had a colectomy due to diverticulitis, removed about 13 or 14 inches of bowel, and I wondered how my surgeon would determine which procedure would work best. I have only had my first meeting with her thus far, and have an endoscopy and colonoscopy scheduled for January 7th. I think that I recall from our appointment that she said the sleeve wouldn't involve the intestines, whereas the bypass would. I need to clarify that with her. Unfortunately, I also have a sliding hiatal hernia that needs repair, and a very large incisional hernia in my lower abdomen from the colectomy that needs repair - which the first surgeon I saw wouldn't do until I lost weight. It's like a vicious circle to find out how to approach everything.😣 Your post relieved some of my anxieties about this! I have read post after post to see if anyone has had a similar situation. So thank you!

I have had two bowel resections due to diverticulitis. I can tell you from years and years and years of history with it, that there it is awful But if you watch your diet and not eat the things that are on your no no list you wont have issues. I am only 5 weeks post VSG and I have not had any issues at all but I haven't had any desire to eat any foods that are on my no no list. It by no means affected my surgery. I actually went in wanting the gastric bypass but with my history of having the bowel resections due to dead tissue from bad diverticulitis bouts they said they didnt want to mess with my bowels so they decided they wanted to go with the sleeve. I was disappointed at first but I have done super good with it and lost over 40 pounds so far so I am pleased. Just take the horrible meds until they are gone, stay away from all the foods they tell you to stay away from and you will be fine
