  1. I stalled for a while around six months (for nine weeks) and lost in fits in starts the entire time. So it might just be your normal. Weight also comes off much more slowly the closer you are to goal. Everyone's dietary needs are different and I'm not trying to sound harsh. I ate over 2,500 calories a day before surgery, too...and I was gaining at a rate of a few pounds a month. That doesn't mean it was normal or good for me! If you're male and quite active your diet sounds right. If you're female, I'd say you're already eating like you're in maintenance. One thing we need to shed is all of our old "dieting" info that's stashed in our brains from years of struggling with our weight. No, we aren't going to starve to death or destroy our metabolism with a lower calorie diet, even though doctors have beaten the "1,200 calories" into our heads for years. For some of us, even the 1,200 was too much. If it wasn't too much for some of us, and if dieting really were one-size-fits-all, Weight Watchers and Nutrisystem would make every American skinny on the first go-round. So, if you feel your diet needs work, change it and be more strict with yourself. I don't advocate paring carbs to nothing and eating 500 calories a day, though it undoubtedly gets results. Track your food religiously and see where the line is. If you trim your calories by 20% do you lose at the same rate or does it pick up? If it stays the same, it's just that you're a slower loser and you can eat as you are now. But if it picks up, you know the answer lies in your diet. I was slow and steady the whole way with two nine-week stalls. It took me 17 months to lose 107 pounds. I've kept within four pounds of goal with very little effort. I eat like a person in maintenance and consume 1,400 or so calories a day of whatever I really want, but I aim for 90 grams of Protein each day. Only you really know how you're doing. If you're unhappy with your rate of loss and your diet or exercise can improve things for you, you're silly to waste the opportunity. If you're just a slow loser, join the club. Make sensible choices and keep moving and you'll get to goal. ~Cheri
  2. Oh and I forgot to add that I haven't lost any weight either.

    Sleeve Ve Rny

You are so right..... All my docs treat me like I have the R N Y. Well I don't. I don't have a pouch, I have a stomach that's reduced by at least 85%. My intestines are all there and accounted for. Yep. However though, I do like eating the way I do. It has helped me be very successful in my weight loss. I love my skinniness now..... I have periods of time when I just want to sit those doctors down and share my insight with them. I will continue to eat like this forever.....
  4. Can anyone advise? I lost 15 lbs the first week after my surgery and have not lost a pound since. I am at 2.5 weeks out. When I started soft foods, I gained 3 lbs immediately, then lost that 3 lbs this past week, but have not gone down again in weight. Is this normal, semi-normal, unusual? Any insight is helpful! Thanks.
  5. I may have been lucky enough not to have a lot of extra skin, but I do have it, especially on my backside, which is very droopy and my thighs, which are rather flabby. Size wize, I am probably a 10 in US sizes at 5ft 10, and more likely a 6-8 on top. So I am not *big*. But I want to be FIRM and I find myself constantly thinking I'm fat and that I just need to lose more weight. What would happen in reality is my top half would be skeletal and I would still have the flab below. I dont know how to get around it and just be happy with what you have. It doesnt come easily. I feel like I need to sit down and watch my life on video to see how I really do look and move, and I need to see that surrounded by other people, so I can see how I am the same as everyone else - good points/bad points, pretty average sized etc.

    Stall For 2 Weeks

I agree with other posts that this is totally normal. I had almost a month of little or no weight loss and then I changed from working out in evening to morning, added more "real food" like fish and veggies, and began tracking EVERYTHING on MyNetDiary. Then yesterday, BOOM, lost 3lbs. I have lost 30lbs since surgery on July 11 but this surgery is definitely not the easy way out, I think more and work harder on myself since this surgery then any other program I have attempted. Stay strong and just shake up your routine, you have to outsmart your body! Good Luck!

    Still Stalled

I promise that this is normal and YOU WILL lose weight. ALOT of people hit a stall around 3 weeks or a month after surgery that lasts several weeks. It will play mind games and you might start to think you're a rare person who won't lose the weight with surgery. But you are going to keep on losing. I promise! Matter of fact--I'll bet you 50$ that you will keep losing! If you don't lose more weight in the next 3-6 months--I'll send you a paypal payment!
  8. Kind of anticlimactic, huh? As a rule, people with bands do not dump--at least not by the same mechanism as those with other weight loss surgeries. (Lots of us do "dump" in response to sugar, but it's different.) I don't think that most of us experience nausea in response to most foods, either. And once the postoperative swelling is down (if it even was substantial enough to be felt), most of us don't have anything resembling restriction. So pain is not something we'd expect, especially after a tiny nibble. So, it's understandable that you felt nothing---there wasn't much to feel! This will change as you approach restriction after a fill or three (or four). In the meantime, yes----starvation is a way of life! It's really hard, but your weight loss, at this point, is 100 percent dependent on your choices. Step away from the cheesecake!

    Body Fat Calculation

In a weight conscious culture, a body fat percentage calculator is of utmost importance as both men and women alike want to look their best and be at their optimal weight. However although many traditional weight loss programs are excellent at assisting with losing weight and tracking body weight with a standard scale, they are not able to give as accurate a number as can be gotten from a body fat percentage calculator. Body conscious and health aware consumers now want more from their scale than a simple weight number. In order to track weight loss, health, and the efficiency of a workout regimen, it is also important to have a body fat percentage calculator. These tools can accurately reflect the amount of muscle to fat in each individual and can lend clarity as to what is working in an exercise routine and what may need to be changed. Visit http://www.thiswhyyourefat.com about body fat calculation.

Could you gain from working out?

I think you are dead on. your body can hold alot of Water after working out. I was going to say the same thing. also if you are weight lifting then muscle mass can make you gain, but normally you will not see this for a few weeks into working out.
  11. I'm 4 1/2 months out and I'm down 70 pounds. I've noticed the past two months my weight loss seems to have slowed a bit. I think realistically, 10 pounds a month is great. I know that some people lose more but this is average for most. I'm not liking it at all either!
  12. Ready4success the difference between losing 10 lbs back when before surgery - is that those 10 lbs eventually came back with the help of the sleeve, and your hard work - weight should not be regained good luck
  13. So I was sleeved January 2012. I've been doing really well...I've lost over 70 pounds since my surgery, but I'm currently stalling out. I'm 5'6" and weigh about 155 (I'll have the exact number tomorrow when I go for a check-up). However, I haven't budged in a while. I'm taking in about 1200 calories a day ( I track using mfp...best thing ever). Am I always perfect? No, I get hungry sometimes...i have Snacks during the day, but again, I try to keep it within my caloric goal. I also exercise 4-5 times a week. I run for 30-45 minutes on most days, swim once a week and do weights 4 times a week. I follow this regimen and I'm seeing skin tightening results...however, again...I'm stuck. any advice on how to break on through to the other side (sorry, i love the Doors). Thanks for your helps, sleevers!!

    Pregnancy And Sleeve

I am about 10 weeks post op, my doctor said I shouldn't have a problem at all. My primary reason for loosing the weight and getting healthy is so that my husband and I can have the family we've been wanting. I was told it will be a high risk pregnancy in that they will not wanting me gaining excess weight, but that it shouldn't be a problem getting pregnant and having a healthy child once I am at goal!

    the last 9 lbs

Hi All and congratulations on getting/almost getting to goal. I have 2 lbs to reach a healthy bmi and 9 to reach my personal goal. I seem to have slowed down significantly, almost to a stop actually which is to be expected I suppose when the calorie defecit is less than when I was larger. I seem to be managing about a pound every 4-6 weeks now. I just wanted to ask those at goal how long it took to lose your last 7 lbs? It seems it could take me as many months to lose these last few pounds as it did to lose the majority of my weight. Also did anyone just decide to adjust their goal because they slowed to a stop or did it just carry on coming off steadily until you reached your goal. I can't decide whether that is it for me and lets face it, it wouldn't be the end of the world if I never lost another pound maybe just a little disappointing that I was so close to healthy but didn't quite make it. Did anyone try and blast it by doing shakes or the CD or did everyone just continue with their normal foods? I'd love to hear from you because I feel I need to make a decision...... Never managed to sort my ticker but I'm 5ft 3ins started at 196, now weigh 142 and its 10 months since surgery. :tongue2:

Are you getting your Protein in how much have you lost. Did you start lower because of the band. The sleeve is getting more popular here. When I went to the seminar they did not even talk about the sleeve dr. tried to push the band. My dr. only did 2 of them but came highly reccommended as a good dr. I am so happy I chose him. He said he is doing alot more sleeves and feels out had the best results for long term weight loss. The problem is there are no long term studies. Do you plan on going to the support groups. My bff had the sleeve in Mexico and had loss 100lbs she lives here too Sent from my SPH-D700 using VST

    Who Knows About Your Wls

I told my husband, adult children and my best friend-all have been very supportive. I felt I had to tell my employer since I work for a small family-owned business and I needed to take off two weeks. I wish I hadn't, they are all slender (genetically) and they've made some nasty comments about "fat" people that really offend me. I hesitate to offer any more information than I have to, but they don't get WLS at all. I've been asked if I was going to get some exercise rather than just starve myself! I was only 2 weeks post-op and wasn't cleared to exercise other than walk, and I was following my surgeon's diet to the "T". They've also commented that all obese people need to do is learn portion control! God, they are so ignorant! They may be thin and attractive on the outside, but they are nasty and ugly on the inside! I think once I've lost some more weight and feel more confident, I'll be job-hunting! My advice, tell only those you have to tell.
  21. I was banded on 04/13/2012 & lost 30 lbs. the first 3 months. However, I seem to be stuck with the weight loss. I'm presuming I need more exercise &/or less calories. I am on a 1200 calorie or less per day regime.... My starting weight was 211 lbs. & I am currently at 179 lbs. Does anyone have any real suggestions to jump start my weight loss? I considered going back to liquids, but I feel that's unreasonable. I work in law enforcement, work 12 hour shifts & hardly have any time to do extracirricular stuff, let alone exercise. I self-paid for my surgery & really want to do the right things! Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!!! Thanks!

    Depressed :-(

Wow, today must be one of those days for the scale. I am sorry the scale hasn't moved, but sometimes that happens. Just know it will move again. Here is an article that I think really explains stalls well. http://www.dsfacts.com/weight-loss-stall-or-plateau.html

    Struggling

I am struggling too. Ive had the band for 6 months and havent lost the weight i want to lose. What i am starting to do now is eat 6 small meals instead of 3. My meals usually consist of chicken topped with a little bit of cheese or baked fish with a vegetable or a salad. If i am hungry a couple hours later i would have cut up fruit or a yogurt. I also dont eat breakfast which i found out can cause you to gain weight so now i either have a packet of instant oatmeal or grits or a protein shake. I am also starting to limit my carb intake and reduce my sugar. Because i wasnt getting that full feeling i was eating larger portions. After going to the doctor for my 3rd fill he told me that my meals should be a 1/2 a cup so i went to walmart and brought tupperware that was 1/2 cup so that i wouldnt be tempted to eat large portions. He also told me to take 20 min to eat the food and stop after that whether your full or not.

    Lazy Folks

Here it talks about fatness vs fitness http://todayiwill.com/2010/01/fitness-vs-fatness-diet-vs-exercise-for-weight-loss-2/#.UEGTK5R5t3o But i also must mention that i would not consider myself lazy even without your typical workout routine. I work horses daily and have a job that keeps me on my feet 8-10 hrs a day. Before surgery i could easy run up several flights of stairs without being winded. My NUT actually told me I could cut back to the lower Protein requirements if I wanted to lose some of my muscle to not be so "bulky." (Her body mass thingy put me in the OVER category for muscle mass) I laughed and told her no thank you I will keep all the muscle i can. So it truly comes down to how "Lazy" you are talking. I have low pulse and blood pressure and absolutely no comorbidities. But I am active in my everyday life. I will choose to add some exercise plans as i go. But to answer the original question... yes you probably can lose the weight you want with diet alone. But don't expect to feel your best or look your best. And there are things to do besides the typical gym exercise routines...
