Welcome Francine2! Glad to hear you are doing well! My husband is having an umbilical hernia repaired 7/3. He was sleeved in 2010. No GERD or revision needed though. Phew!
-
I get it! I am currently trying the second time for a revision after a rejection last year. Just remember that its a journey. Because of your acid reflux you might not be a good fit for the sleeve.

@@parisshel The fills never hurt me (even through the layers of scar tissue) and I was never offered a pain med for it. Didn't even know that it was available! A band patient will always have to research new Drs in any area they move too. They might have to end up driving hundreds of miles for a Dr. willing to service them (an existing band patient). Many don't want to service them. And here is another thing to consider - it is not permanent! It will have to come out eventually. It is a hard thing to accept when you just get banded, because you are still excited and it is still working for you. My mother had her's out after 3 years. Just found out my band is not in the right place, so that might help speed the revision along (after 7.5 years I was lucky!) Why invest in a procedure that doesn't have a good track record? My Dr. doesn't even perform bands anymore or even offer a monthly support group for bandsters. We are lumped together with the other WLS groups.

I am currently still banded but am having issues. Saw my doc 2day & he thinks it's eroded & needs 2 come out. I lost 85!lbs, gained 10 back & am very very close 2 my goal. I asked him his opinion regarding a revision 2 the sleeve, he's all for it. My hubby on the other hand was sleeved a couple of months ago, has done well, no complications & is very happy w/his progress. I don't know many sleevers but they all seem 2 be pleased. U may want 2 go to the counterpart forum for sleeves. I'm sure u'll (we'll) find goo-gobs of former bandsters to sleeves. Good Luck 2 u & may God ease your path just enough for u 2 make it thru this. I thought I was over hot flashes, but the LBS threw me back into them, but not as bad as they were. Sorry for all the problems you two have had. Just last Wednesday I had to have my port revised (flipped) but nothing major like you two. Good luck! -
Going for surgery but having erosive gastritis
ProudGrammy replied to Kawkab's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
@Kawkab if you have acid reflux now, it "probably" will continue PO. (maybe worse feelings) if you never had reflux problems you might still get reflux PO sleeve some peep that have the sleeve, then major heartburn - will get a revision to gastric bypass i had the sleeve, no probs with heartburn IMO i agree with surgeon - i would have the bypass over the sleeve any day of the week and twice on sundays!! good luck with your decision kathy -

1St Consultation - My Experience
DZ1RMQ replied to TamaraS's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had surgery on 7/27. I had the lap band since 2002, so I was revised to the sleeve. My journey has been pretty smooth! I think having experience with the band help me with handling the sleeve. It is so important to eat slow and chew a lot. I find that if I have no distractions it is easier to concentrate and to make sure I'm not mindless eating. I have been weighing myself every morning, which I don't recommend :-) it drives you insane :-). Let me know if you have any questions, I would be happy to help if I can! -
OMG! I can still eat so much - HELP

You always should follow what your surgeon and Nut tell you to do. They are the trained professional. If you trusted them to do your surgery you should trust them with the food stages. Every surgeon has different rules, even though we are having the same procedure. It is their years of training and experience that made them dictate their post op eating plans. My revision surgeon has you go right to purée but my original surgeon 9 years ago had 6 week transition period. Also my Nut is very clear that it is all about protein. We don't count calories in the beginning. -
I totally feel the same way! I am having a revision from a band, but unlike you, I gained all my 60 lb back that I lost. My willpower is nil, so I hope someone can give us some encouragement - when is your surgery? Mine is the 19th.

Hi guys, For those who have had the mgb, how many ounces should we eat post op? I'm just planning everything for my op in August, I'm having a sleeve to mgb revision so want to make sure I get everything right this time around

Thanks for sharing, I agree about the weight maintenance. I have always been able to lose weight, it is keeping it off that is the challenge. I am a band to sleeve revision. I did good w the Lap Band for the first year, then I started having problems with it. I just got revised to the sleeve, and I feel that I made the right choice. I think I will have much better results this time around. Your story gives me hope!!

As someone who just had a revision from a lap band to a bypass. I do not recommend the lap band! I had mine in for about 11 years. I developed acid reflux with the band and found the fill level to be variable. in the morning i had difficulty with getting Water down, by evening I could eat steak. Eventually it failed altogether and would not take a fill. No one told me when they put it in that it would eventually wear out and need to be replaced. Revision was the best decision I ever made. Just my 2 cents. Make sure you do your research. Many surgeons are no longer doing them because of the known issues (mine included). -
I was wondering if there is anybody else out there that is having as hard a time with their band/port as I am? I was banded in Sept. 2007. I had my first fill 6-7 weeks out and was good for awhile. When I went for my second fill we discovered that my port had flipped completely over. I had my first port revision done in mid-January of 2008. At my six month check-up I mentioned that things weren't feeling quite right and was told not to worry about anything I'm fine. So now I go in for a fill (I am STARVING when I am done eating) and the dr. has a hard time accessing my port. Under fluro we discover AGAIN that my port has flipped. So now the dr has to determine which is the best course of action. Do another port revision even though it's ripped through twice already or do the whole surgery over again. Either way I am faced with another unpleasant experience. And I couldn't get a fill so I continue to starve until I know what's going on. Am I all alone in this miserable boat or is there anybody else who can sympathize?

Husband alrealdy jealous.......
Tiffykins replied to slebme's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My husband was deployed during my revision, and during the first 4 months of my journey. I dropped 80lbs during that 4 months, and YES, he was more jealous and possessive when he first came home. He stuck to me like glue. One day we were out shopping, a higher ranking guy, walked up to me, politely (not flirty) said 'hi there, how are you?' I replied back with 'fine thank you and yourself'. My husband was a few feet away, and he marched over, slid his arm around my waist and kissed my forehead. The guy walked off, I looked up to my husband and said " you need to quit hiking your leg on my thigh ". I nipped it in the bud quickly. I don't tolerate other people's insecurities to drown me. I told him that he just needed to accept that men are going to find me attractive just like they did when I was fat. He just didn't believe that other men hit on me back then. John's been home since October 1, and he's finally figured it out that I'm not going to leave him. We talked through a lot of stuff. Communication is vital, and pure honesty. I have found that since losing weight I'm slightly less tolerant of b.s. I didn't tolerate, or let people walk all over me just bc I was fat. It's only gotten worse since I don't have the fat to hide behind. My husband was definitely worried when I got below his own weight (170). But, he's loosened up quite a bit. Our marriage is actually stronger because of my surgery. I'm more active, more open sexually, more intimate, more loving, more confident (I was pretty confident pre-op it just got better post-WLS), I have more energy to go and do things. We eat better meals, our sex life is well pretty phenomenal, we're closer emotionally because this journey is definitely emotional. If no one has warned you, the hormone flux post-op can be pretty horrific. I swear I had horrible PMS, crankiness, irritable, almost irrational mood swings during the weight loss. So, don't be surprised if you find yourself crying one minute then laughing the next. Or, if you are super moody, and upset, it's pretty normal, most of us go through it. I think talking about everything is way better than arguing about the little things. If your marriage is strong, and y'all can communicate openly, you should be able to work through the many different emotions and thoughts that will come during your WLS journey. -
I had a stricture. I was in a lot of pain after with spasms and vomiting for hours (7 total). I just got corrected information from my friend who took me. I was almost closed 100%. They opened me 5 cm ( we have the 5 right but maybe its mm?) They told her I meds to go in every week for up to 4 times they estimate. It was horrible for me. I'm going ro ask for some kind of after care the next time. Please if you can expand on the stoma closing I would appreciate it. I'm scared now. I was already scared but now I'm just shocked. My friend said she wanted to give me a few says to get better before she gave me all the info because I had such a bad reaction to the stretching. It was exactly 1 month out and I'm a revision. This is all unpaid, now adding to the stress. Physically I'm set back a good week. Emotions are raw. I don't want to face this 4 more times. My friend said they maxed out going 5 cm and could do no more. They need me at ten and o was near zero. I was told it will regress and they will keep fighting it untill it is open. Any info? I'm scared.

Trouble With Dr's Office
Anniesmom12 replied to Anniesmom12's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I just talked to her again.... she finally revised my dates with Tricare...they will update within 24hrs (I talked to Tricare to make sure she did it). She and I had a very heated conversation as to why she has been treating me so poorly, seems it boils down to me working in the same hospital system as the Dr and being able to talk to him and explain my situation and him asking her to push it through for me. She said she doesnt like having to rush anything and I should have never asked that it be rushed and just let it take its course. She said she usually has 5 days to prepare a chart and she had to do mine in the same day.... guess she's pissed at me because he understands my reasons for needing to have surgery between certain dates..... not sure. Just hope I have very limited dealings with her after Monday!! -
Pain 4 inches long , 6 inches below incision - help
UKHEIDI posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had surgery to remove my gall bladder and revise my sleeve to a bypass on 23rd January my surgeons profile is soft food from day 3, with which I have coped well I started experiencing about a week ago a severe and constant pain on my left side about 6 inches below the major incision .on the left side . The acute area of pain is about 4 inches long but when bad , the pain radiates to my back. Assuming it was constipation, i got some serious laxatives from the doctor . Things starting moving and the pain was less but still niggling. 24 hours later it is as bad as it ever was. I don’t have fever has anyone else experienced this please or have any suggestions / advice. i have a Hospital follow up next Thursday. Is it safe to wait until then? i would appreciate any feedback. Thank you -
Anyone have prior abdominal surgery?
HappiTam replied to requiem's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Since 2001 I've have a laparoscopic Nissen Fundoplication, an exploratory laparoscopic surgery, a revised Nissen Fundoplication and a laparoscopic hysterectomy. My surgeon planned on my surgery being a 2 hour laparoscopic RNY and hiatal hernia repair, but my surgery switched to an open after 9 hours as a lap. The extra 7 hours of lap time was due to adhesions. The switching to an open was due to how fragile my pouch tissue was (due to the Nissen), it became difficult to attach my small intestine to it. In total the surgery went over 12 hours.
