Bypass , sleeve, lapband?
JohnnyCakes replied to Rudedogg89's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
you have two very different options here... 1 - you get the lap-band. it fails. you go get a revision surgery to the sleeve. it fails. you go back for a third surgery to go to the RNY bypass, which works excellently for the rest of your life. 2 - you get the RNY bypass, which works excellently for the rest of your life. -
If you would like to keep in touch with me that would be great. My date is the same Im doing revision band to bypasd. Sent from my SM-G930V using BariatricPal mobile app

Any January 2018 Sleevers?
lillian.b.white replied to VSGnewguy's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
ME TOO!!! I just got my date today!! I am SOOOO excited!! My pre-op tests are on 1/16. Now I just have to hope that insurance approves it! January 29th can't come soon enough! ETA: I'm being revised from band to sleeve. I'm hoping he can do it all in one surgery, but he warned me that it may have to be done in two parts, depending upon how nasty things are in there (scar tissue and such). -
Hiya TX_KB I had my revision 14 December. I also had left side pain, but the whole 3xperience hasn’t been too bad. No nausea from this op (unlike putting the band in) which is the best. Happy 2018 for us - I look forward to us being on the losers bench together!

Opinions on sleeve vs. bypass?
TX_KB replied to jayleensmama's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
My surgeon said that the sleeve has a higher regain percentage than the bypass but a lot of it has to do with food choices. There are people who have been successful and unsuccessful with both operations. See what your surgeon recommends and reasons why. Good luck! Bypass , sleeve, lapband?
TX_KB replied to Rudedogg89's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I would recommend against the lap band. I had a lap band for 10 years. Lost a lot of weight at first but only bc I was vomiting everything I ate. So I learned that I could eat ice cream and other “slider” foods. I couldn’t eat healthy foods bc they would get stuck. I hardly ever felt a restriction, no decrease in appetite, and i regained all of the weight. My surgeon doesn’t even do lap bands anymore either bc they have such a high failure rate and lots of complications. Lap band 10/2007 revised to RNY 12/22/2017 HW 270 SW 263 CW 257 -

I am scheduled 1/3/18. Mine is a revision. Scared, excited, happy, etc.

First I am wondering what kinds you all suggest. Second, I am getting like a dumping syndrome from my protein drinks. I have not had this happen in years. Any ideas why it would do this? I am going for revision by the way.

I had my revision done Oct 9th it was one of the best decisions I have ever made!! I had really bad left side pain after I got out of the hospital it would only hit at night and walking did not help be aware that its possible for this kind of pain and have your pain meds on hand. This is a great accomplishment and cant wait to see you on the losers bench

Adhesive reaction
TX_KB replied to depressed_bandster's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes mine looks like that. It’s getting blistered and itches like crazy. I peeled off a bunch of the glue surrounding the incisions but not on the actual incision and that’s helped a lot. Lap band 10/2007 revised to RNY 12/22/2017 HW 270 SW 263 CW 257 -
Anyone in Chicago & used UIC Bariatric program?
NewChiGirl replied to genia_deanne's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I had surgery at UIC with Dr. Hassan in May 2017. Great experience all around, if you show them you’re committed and serious about taking this step then it will be smooth sailing. Everyone works together as a team. DM if you have any further questions! Best of luck. Band to Vsg revision: 5/23/17 HW: 315+ Starting weight: 294 Surgery Day: 281 Current: 219 Goal 170 -
Nervous about outpatient VSG!

It all depends on your doctor. I was outpatient for my lapband. Then outpatient for my band to SIPS DS revision. Good luck today! -
Lapband Complication-Needs Removed
Alex Brecher replied to kath17's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I've found that Barrett's is extremely common in Lap-Band patients! I'm personally very worried about it myself. I've had a few esophagrams over the years and some have shown very low dysplasia. It concerns me greatly! I used to have major acid reflux and had to remove a lot of fluid from my band until I figured out my sweet spot. Everything has been really good for the last year or so. I went off all my reflux meds. In the future, if I have further complications with my Lap-band, I think I'm going to revise to a Mini Gastric Bypass. My suggestion is to definitely follow your gastro's advice. I would highly consider revising to another procedure if you're worried about your weight regain. -
Band to bypass revision on 12/22. Having a hard time getting protein in. Sipping but get gas pains after sipping anything other than water. I’m feeling very weak and still very sleepy. Want to sleep all day but force myself to be awake and drink fluids. Anyone else experience this? Starting to feel discouraged and definitely Feeling like I shouldn’t have done this right before Christmas [emoji53].

Getting breast augmentation- what to do about sides of breasts?
NYC1992 posted a topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
Hey all, been a while since I’ve been here! To make a long story short, I had lap band done in May 2013 followed by a lower body lift and arm lift in 2015. In August 2016, I had my lap band removed and revised to gastric sleeve. I’ve lost (at most) 200 lbs to date which also gave me the courage to start my gender transition last year. As part of that, I will be getting a breast augmentation soon but am wondering what can be done for the excess skin between my breasts and back (below my arms). My back skin is also quite loose in that area. I know the implants will push the skin a -little- forward but the surgeon I consulted with said it would mostly remain. What options are out there? Thanks! -
First time posting here- Had my revision from lap band to RNY yesterday. It’s not as bad as I had built up in my head. Took a while for anesthesia to wear off. I had ice chips first, then water, and a sugar free popsicle last night. Everything is going down ok. The gas pain is the worst part but it’s tolerable. Walking helps. Hoping to go home today. The hospital bed is uncomfortable and people come in and out of my room constantly, so I’m looking forward to a good night sleep. The actual incision sites are not very painful. Feels like I did a bunch of sit ups. Peeing feels a little weird. Who knew we used so many abdominal muscles to pee. I also have cotton mouth, which I’m hoping gets better. Here’s to a new me for the new year.

Anyone have gastric sleeve years after having your band removed?
EagerPenguin replied to kyotosong's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
The surgeon who took out your band sounds not only like a rude jerk but dangerous! It's too bad you didn't get answers to your questions back then. It hasn't been years, but my surgeon was saying that I'd have more scar tissue too due to that stomach sewing technique. When she took my band out last August, she tried to take down some of the scarring because she knew I'd be revising to the sleeve (I did so 12/7). I think it's just a matter of taking out that scar tissue in the same surgery as your revision. It'll probably just take a while longer. My surgeon used an endoscope to check the staple line during surgery, then had me do a water barium swallow the morning after my surgery and before I had anything else to drink to make sure there was no leak. -
Rapid weight gain
Biddy zz 🏳️🌈 replied to kathymae's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Don’t know about normal, but when my band malfinctioned and was emptied, I gained back 2/3 of my lost weight. The band helped me lose weight and was great - but once it wasn’t doing its job, the old me habits were just there waiting to emerge! I just had mine removed, revision to a bypass. Best of luck on YOUR journey... -
I take flinstones complete. I had a revision and switched surgeons for second surgery. First surgeon had me buying 100 dollar bottles of vitamin. I threw them up all the time. Now I take one flinstone in morning and one at night and I feel so much better and it’s lighter on my stomach. Also much cheaper.

Hi all - I was revised from a band to VSG Monday 12/18. I came home from the hospital Wednesday night - things are going ok, but I've been sticking mostly to more clear liquid type stuff. I thought I was doing myself a favor by drinking the Isopure Zero Carb pre-made drinks, which give me 40 grams of protein each. I've had four of them since Wednesday. Unfortunately, I've spent an inordinate amount of time in the bathroom, with some fairly explosive issues. Also, have had some pretty bad lower right side abdominal cramping/gas/pressure. Anyone else have problems with sucralose?

Dr Alamanzo or BariatricPal MX?
utahgirll replied to rrjd39mo's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
no to almanza the butcher. there is a fb page called something like Mexican Weight Loss Surgeons or Weight Loss surgeons in Mexico Thie is a page that does NOT allow anyone to join that is involved with the surgeons, as in, works for thesurgeons in any way. It is a place where people who have had bad experiences can feel free to write about their experiences without hassle. Just google almanza and see what has happened. go with bariatric pal. I hope you are getting the MGB, i've researched it a very long time and it has amazing results, its a short operation and it is reversible and revisable. You get to keep your stomach. good luck.
